Free Amazon Prime for students

Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/s… I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Competition for those who know the Law

The International Contest of Young Lawyers “Precedent” is an on-line activity for students and young professionals. It's a bilingual contest where you can send the work in English or Russian.
It’s main goal is to give young lawyers and students a place to share opinions and try their skills. At the same time practicing lawyers and the one who is just interested in jurisprudence may participate.
There are two spheres where the participant may choose a case to resolve - intellectual property and private international law. Here’s the list of cases.
You can vote for the works and comment! Here are the approved solutions.
The Contest is held till 21 of June 2010. You can send a work up to June 15.

Prizes for the winners are granted!

Hi Beloit :) I'm Abby, I hail from MN, and I'm a prospective student. I have applied to Beloit (haven't heard back yet!), and while I'm not sure how active this community is, I have a few questions:

1. How is the psychology department at Beloit?

2. How selective is Beloit, exactly? I got a 530 on the math section of the SAT. I did fine on the rest, and I have an A average at a really competitive and academically rigorous school, so I don't know how that'll work...

3. If I'm going to do an overnight, which night should I choose? I know I can't do one on a Friday or weekend, which sucks. I just want to get a good feel for the school.

4. Can you do other study abroad programs? Like, for example, my mum did the Sweetbriar program for her study abroad in France, would Beloit be compatible with this program?

5. How is the party scene at Beloit? I'm sure this question has been asked bazillions of times before, but I know it changes with every year.

In reading back entries, Beloit has moved up on my list. The admissions process for Beloit has been great; everyone is really welcoming. I had a tour but I honestly cannot remember if I interviewed, which is bizarre... I got rejected from both Bates and Grinnell, and I'm kind of bummed, but I'm hoping that I'll find a school I like even more. That school could be Beloit! Cheers :)

liberty_etc pointed this out to me, so all credit to Erin. And admissions.

Beloit's essay prompt (PDF) is not an essay!

"Beloit's viewbook is titled, 'The Beloit College book of love, luck, fame, flops, art, soup, soul, sweat, green lights, big ideas, impossible questions, captains, huggers, band, marmots, glaciers, risks... and everything else otherwise known as life.' What words otherwise describe you or your life? No essay required, just words."

To quote Erin: "yo alma mater...wtf?"

As an aside, everything they wrote about me in the viewbook is false.

TV for Sale!

Alright, I've got a TV I need to sell, I'm graduating in December and this baby ain't coming with me. It's a Sanyo DS24425 24" Flatscreen Television. More detailed specs can be found here: http://www99.shopping.com/xPF-Sany…

This TV was purchased new in January of 2007 and has a two year service plan so if there are any problems with it before January 30, 2009, take it to the Walmart in town and they should fix it or replace it for free. It works fine now, good picture and sound, and I'll include the remote, users manual, and cable antenna with it.

I'd like $100 dollars for it but I may be willing to negotiate. It can be picked up any time after the late afternoon of December 14th (Sunday).
