Better Movie: Sabriel or Lirael?

Is it possible that Lirael's story lends itself more to a conventional fantasy movie than Sabriel's?

Sabriel has few characters, some of them introduced well after the story begins like Touchstone. The plot is about this healthy, strong girl with an okay life save for the fact that she battles the Dead. But she goes to a magic school, so battling Dead is only mildly weird.

Lirael, on the other hand, starts at home, in a big Glacier with a lot of people. The character is a girl that doesn't belong. She finds out she's this Chosen One, and goes through an epic adventure to uncover who she is. It sounds like a meatier, more envolving premise in general for a big screen.

Don't get me wrong - I loved Sabriel best out of the three books because it was no-nonsense, let's get this party started kind of messy fantasy. Sabriel as a character was awesome, scared as hell but toughing it out without feeling too sorry for herself. The dynamic of Sabriel and Co. was cool, too.

I'm just intrigued at how Sabriel's composition could change the pacing of a possible movie. I feel Sabriel would be more of a Stardust [action now, think later] movie while Lirael would be a more LOTR [big themes, big ponderings] movie. Or maybe a Sabriel movie will put an experimental spin on the fantasy formula. What do you guys think?

Gouon Hashi Koukou is a very special school. Housing all grades, there is room for everyone. There is even a University next door that is associated with the famous GHK. The campus is located in Osaka, Japan, but the students, teachers, and faculty are from other regions as well, other countries even. For students not in permanent residence in Osaka, dorms are available.
We take pride in our diverse student body. There are very talented children enrolled here, but magic, transformations, fighting, and energy blasts are not allowed in the hallways. There is a time and place for everything; everyone will be given the opportunity to show off their skills in the gym and at events and festivals.
------------
Gouon Hashi Koukou is a multifandom roleplaying game set in a shoujo-esque school. Characters are taken from any fandom, but the situations and events are completely shoujo.

Casting

"There has been continual interest in Sabriel film rights over the last few years. I've always said that I'm prepared to sell the rights either to people whose work I respect or for vast amounts of money, preferably both! Typically, most of the approaches have been from people whose work I don't respect offering small amounts of money. But there are some ongoing discussions with some excellent film-makers so I remain hopeful."

This has, of course, had me drooling like crazy for a Film Trilogy.  I feel it would  be a great loss to not have these films produced - especially in a time where film-makers for the most part seem to have run completely dry of ideas for good films - that is to say, good plot, good characters, good dialogue and so on.  Let's face it most films today are either carbon copies of the same mediocre idea, or remakes of old films, and the amount of original, artistically fantastic material that's been coming out is so few and far between that it literally becomes sensational hype, which starts to detract from the actual film eventually.
Fantasy films that have done well in a Post-LOTR film era are essentially the Harry Potter and the Narnia film, or films, as it is soon to be with Narnia as well.  The rest have all been tragically disappointing.  Even a lot of the HP stuff that came out round about the same time as LOTR was tragically short of the benchmark being set by Peter Jackson and his WETA Workshops effects and prop team.  The Hobbit is slotted to be fantastic.
But are we really willing to settle for that.  I'm not.  I want The Old Kingdom Series on Film without a doubt.  But I agree with Nix: it has to be done by someone we, like him, can respect and who does good work.
Now, I've often thought about the look of the film - how it would be.  And how I would interpret it for screen etc.  But what about the who-does-what.  So I feel the need to do a casting call and see what people think about who should direct, star, etc.
Feel free to refute or support anything I say here in comments, but I'm interested to see others fill out this list:

I will do the same for Lirael and Abhorsen if there's considerable enough interest :)

Game of Thrones: Lyanna face (half)

FIC: Word of a Sayre (G)

A friend asked me to write a shippy scene between Nicholas Sayre and Lirael. Large parts are taken from the last part of Abhorsen and parts of The Creature in the Case given that the potential for 'something' between these two already exists.

The story is here in case anyone else wants to read it :)

Also, lately I was posting my thoughts in the Old Kingdom series after re-reading the books. The tag is here.

Roleplay, anyone?

Hi, Abhorsen fans.

I've been rereading the trilogy, and it occurred to me that this would be a great roleplay setting. So I looked around, and there's not much by way of message-board format RP to be had. Basically, I'm looking around to see if there's any interest in starting a pre-trilogy, circa Charter-formation game. Would anyone else enjoy this?

Cross-posted to various Abhorsen LJ comms. Thanks!
