They might be 27 years old, but Léo Besso and Ivo Roxo have been companions for half of their lifetimes. As Swiss teenagers often do, they met at a ski camp, discovering a shared infatuation for skateboarding, snowboarding, and music. Ivo recounts the fateful meeting: "I was already into production. Léo was mixing in his bedroom. I suggested we do a set together the following weekend. Playing as a duo, it felt right from the start." The duo quickly made a name for itself as DJs, playing at prestigious clubs and events such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, where they opened for Modeselektor in 2019. While the pandemic put a hold on their live performances, they gradually shifted towards production, focusing their energy on composition. The resulting tracks, sometimes penned under the pseudonym "Les Garçons," found their way onto multiple EPs released by Swiss and international labels and would also form the backbone of Psycho Weazel’s upcoming EP’s and album. As soon as clubs reopened in 2022, Léo and Ivo stormed stages all over Europe with a true showstopper, turning heads and making waves at events like Printemps de Bourges, Festi’neuch, and Paléo Festival, among others. Psycho Weazel’s allure extends beyond their music’s festive and hypnotic embrace; their effortless coolness and charming stage presence draw an ever-expanding audience. Psycho Weazel is, above all, a story of friendship spanning over a decade, culminating in a defining album that celebrates the spirit of pop and a gentler masculinity. "The idea was to give free rein to one's emotions, to break the archetype of the macho man who forbids himself to cry." This translates into compositions crafted not just for clubs but also for intimate listening experiences. Several collaborations naturally emerged with artists such as Curses, Crimer, Nerlov, Local Suicide, and Bolides, all featured on the duo’s latest tracks. "We want people to dance and cry at the same time... Jokes aside, we are making dance music, but we've tried to infuse it with a touch of sophistication, an excess of emotion." "boysdontcry," Psycho Weazel’s first album, is slated for release in 2024. The work represents an important milestone, with the duo carving out a distinctive and unmistakable sound. In the past, Psycho Weazel made a name for themselves by embracing a multitude of styles and production methods, from cold wave to Italo disco.
