Marc McCabe

Marc McCabe is a DJ with over 30 years of experience playing parties of all shapes and size in all corners of the globe. His name might not have the recognisabililty factor of Roger Sanchez or Carl Cox, but the list of parties he has played certainly has. He was one of the first British DJs invited to the SONAR festival in Barcelona and has been a regular visitor to legendary clubs like 333 in London, Propaganda in Moscow and Skansen in Oslo. His more anonymous profile is likely due to his roots in the house & techno party scene in Scotland in the 1990s. Initially starting out filling in for the local DJ in his hometown nightclub in 1987, Marc soon moved on to promoting events. Back then, the idea that the promoter would also DJ at the event wasn’t as evident as it is now (with Patrick Topping being the most recently celebrated promoter-cum-DJ). On top of that, the business side of things always came well to him (his Dad was a successful publican in Glasgow, and he was running a hair salon), so Marc concentrated his efforts on bringing the best underground house & techno DJs to the west coast. He teamed up with Glasgow Underground’s Kevin McKay and created club nights in Glasgow and two west coast towns and invited world-class DJs like Andrew Weatherall, Deep Dish, Chez Damier & Francois Kevorkian to play for them. By the late 90s, his involvement in the scene led him to set up a record label, Under The Counter. The imprint featured some of the best house & techno artists of the time; Sandy Rivera, DJ Q & Romanthony delivered productions to the label. And while he might have started in the background, he was now really flourishing as a DJ with residencies in Glasgow complimenting the headline shows in London, Moscow & Oslo mentioned above. As well as his love of underground house & techno, the joy he got from his first DJing experiences playing the hits to his local crowd has stayed with him. These days, however, he spends his time between the UK, Dubai and Pai in Thailand. He occasionally throws an underground party but is more like to be found dropping disco & classics in his favourite Pai bar and playing Café Mambo style grooves in one of Scotland’s most picturesque venues.
