Ümit Han

Ümit Han

Ümit Han has been active in electronic music for many years. He began with dancefloor-oriented productions and gradually moved toward deeper, more introspective, and composition-focused sounds. His tracks often carry a warm emotionality, sometimes quiet and contemplative, sometimes powerful and melancholic, reflecting moods that shift between motion and introspection. His roots lie in techno and house culture, with DJ residencies at clubs like Vrstck in Dortmund and Home14 in Düsseldorf. Since 2006, he has released music on labels such as Kompakt, Traum Schallplatten, and Harthouse. Each phase marks a step in his artistic growth and traces the organic development of his sound. Over the years, he has remixed artists including Max Cooper, Minilogue, and Gabriel Ananda, showing his strong connection to the dancefloor. In recent years, his focus has shifted toward composition-driven ambient music and conceptually framed experimental soundscapes. Collaborations, often based on improvisation, open new spaces between tonality and atonality. He also draws inspiration from Turkish poetry by Nazım Hikmet, Karacaoğlan, and Yunus Emre. His music radiates warmth and intimacy while constantly evolving through discovery and renewal. Between 2017 and 2022, Ümit curated and produced the audiovisual TV show lsb.TV Cologne, broadcast live on Berlin’s Alex TV and later on NRWision in Dortmund. During this time, he also composed music for installations and performance projects such as sub_bar by Eufonia, which explored subfrequency sound art for the deaf. Since 2022, Ümit has been part of the Kompakt family and has regularly appeared on the Pop Ambient compilations with tracks such as “Sieg über das Ungute,” “Nirgends,” and “Im Delirium.” These works reflect his passion for heartfelt, composition-based ambient music. His 2025 album Magnetfeld on MIG Music, created together with Krautrock and Berlin School pioneer Harald Grosskopf, combines contemporary interpretations of classic electronic music with techno-inspired sequences. His upcoming album features the singing voice of Turkish singer Tülay German and continues his poetic exploration of expressive electronic soundscapes. Collaboration remains an important part of Ümit Han’s work. He has worked with artists such as Dominik von Senger, Moogulator, and Mijk van Dijk, reflecting his interdisciplinary and cross-generational approach and his view of music as a continuous space of exchange and discovery.
