doctor who; last year's blooms

Last Year's Blooms, by Etherati.
PG. Four, Sarah Jane, Jack Harkness.
Learning to dance, relearning the dance of the left-behind, and things blowing up.
Spoilers: Parting of the Ways

He’s about three-quarters the way around the room when the live band switches to something old — some Glenn Miller, bouncy and lively and it’s vaguely familiar, tickling at the front of his brain like a half-remembered dream. He pauses, trying to place the tune, figure out what memory it’s linked to.

He doesn’t mean to eavesdrop on the locals, in that moment of thought, but some conversations are meant to be overheard.

Beautifully done, and the voices are just right.

doctor who/torchwood; the thousandth man

The Thousandth Man, by athousandwinds.
PG. Implied Ten/Jack and Doctor/Rose/Jack.
Jack's a people person, but he's always ended up alone.
Spoilers: Parting of the Ways.

Halfway round the universe with only a backpack for company made anyone a loner. Making connections just wasn't worth it when you were only going to spend the day. There wasn't time.

"There's always time!" a man whom Jack met once insisted. "I mean, look how fast we became friends!"

"Sure," Jack said, amused. He kissed the guy's shoulder (he was way too skinny and had the chirpy, curious look of a clumsy baby bird) and added, "Why did you hug me?"

"No reason." The sharp face took on a guilty cast. "I like hugging people. Is it illegal here?"

"It's Victorian England."

"Oh." The man considered this. "Nah, it's fine. I'll just tell 'em I'm French."

doctor who/torchwood; where ever I may roam

I’m still awake, so that’s hardly impressive. Also what’s the point to all of this text nonsense? It’s like taking a perfectly good form of communication and making it twice as difficult just for the sake of –

Both sweet and hilarious.

doctor who/torchwood; everyman

Everyman, by basingstoke.
Hard R. Jack/the known universe.
It starts on a beach and ends in a city.
Spoilers: Last of the Time Lords

Jack fell in love for the first time when he looked up from a martini and saw an alien dancing with a human girl in a spaceship like no other he'd ever seen, and he realized they had come to rescue him, and he realized he was forgiven, and he realized he would do anything for them. He thought that meant killing for the Doctor, but it didn't, because the Doctor couldn't stand death. Not the death of a butterfly; not the death of his enemy. He'd been all for killing Daleks, when Jack first knew him, but Jack wondered if he would push the metaphorical button now.

Takes that new bit of Jack canon and makes it right. Dare you not to tear up by the end.
owl

torchwood/doctor who; in the mood

In the Mood, by chicafrom3.
PG. Jack/Toshiko.
The Captain Jack Harkness AU that every Jack/Tosh shipper had to write. Jack and Tosh are stranded in the '40s.
Spoilers: Captain Jack Harkness

Fact: He promised to keep her safe, and he will keep that promise, Toshiko Sato, so stop arguing.

So she quiets, and thinks about it. And when he comes home that night, she smiles at him a little and says that she at least wants a ring.

Very pretty and satifying: a stuck-in-the-past AU that's shippy, in a believable way that builds on the quiet connection these two have in canon.
owl

torchwood; all things in time

All Things in Time, by poisontaster.
PG. Brief Jack/Toshiko, implied Jack/Ianto.
Spoilers: For 1.12 "Captain Jack Harkness" and S4 of Footballers' Wives.
AU from "Captain Jack Harkness."

Toshiko doesn't really know when she understood that there would be no rescue, no eleventh hour save. She'd seen so many extraordinary, miraculous things…it seems impossible that there wouldn't be one for her, for them, her and Jack.

She does remember excusing herself to go into the ladies' sometime close to the dirty, peeping dawn and have herself a good cry though.

torchwood; and how tonight we will turn in

And How Tonight We Will Turn In, by mireille719.
FRT. Gen.
The members of Torchwood Three don't sleep much.

Torchwood Three works late into the night, even when there's no crisis. There's always data to be analyzed or tests to be run or even filing to be done, and they rarely look at the others, taking in the shadows under their eyes or the weary slump of their shoulders, and suggest that they go and get some sleep.

None of them likes sleeping very much, these days.

doctor who/torchwood; five times the doctor made it better, just a little bit

Five Times the Doctor Made It Better, Just a Little Bit, by lightgetsin.
PG-13. Gen.
“You’re going to help me?” Jack asked.

“Sure,” said the Doctor. “It’s on my to do list – just put it there. Right after refitting the horologous flux control nexus and preventing that twenty-second century American idiot from spreading marshmallow peeps across the galaxy in the first human Diaspora.”

Spoilers: through Torchwood

What the title says: moments between Nine and Jack, Ten and Jackie, Ten and Rose, Ten and TARDIS, Ten and Jack. Every scene resonates, and the last is the stuff squees are made of.
