Photography by Laura is having it's first promotional sale -- the Jump into SPRING Sale (the fact that it's spring (according to the calendar at least) is reason enough to celebrate)!
Come check it out :) It's a great chance to support other moms & families in the community while giving really beautiful, unique gifts this holiday season.
As part of the 20th Anniversary Vancouver Queer Film Festival, there is a free movie and dance party this Saturday at Vancity Theatre. Kinderkino is a program of short films for kid's aged 5 and up. Disco, Baby! is the dance party that follows. DJ litte d will be spinning for some disco dancing fun.
Is anyone privvy to when the Grouse Mountain Y2Play pass for this year/next year will be released? I've googled and searched their site but it must be a tightly guarded secret. Has anyone gotten one in the past and if so did you do the family or individual passes? What was the cost? We totally missed it this year. I am watching eagerly for them this year because i don't want to miss it again.
Do you have children who will be out of school for the summer and are fascinated by knighthood? Perhaps you have young nieces and nephews who have always had an interest in the martial arts of the Middle Ages. For those among us who do, Academie Duello is holding five-day knight camps this summer during July and August -- you can send your child back in time to gain the training of knighthood!
Each day of the camp focuses on an aspect of knightly training, from martial skills such as the longsword and sword and shield, to the practice of knightly virtues such as generosity and fairness. Students will learn history, battlefield skills such as strategy and tactics, and the knowledge that all knights would possess from heraldry to medieval games.
The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is coming upon us once again. Now, I'm all for preventing unwanted pregnancies, but I am not pleased with the way the NCPTP slanders teen parents and tries to keep them down in order to further their cause. Previous ad campains have used the words "Dirty", "Cheap", "Useless" , and "Nobody" to describe teen parents.
All parents need support, especially those for whom the odds are against. There are so many issues facing teen parents that make just being able to care for their children difficult. Lack of access to affordable childcare and flexible schooling, limited financial resources, and unstable relationships are just some of the many obstacles that a teen mother might be up against.
I propose that on May 2, (or the weekend following) the same day the NCPTP is held, that we hold a counter event in Vancouver, BC. The International Day to Empower Teen Parents campaign should include information about pregnancy options (it WILL be a pro-choice event), support services for pregnant teens and young parents in the area, information on financial aid in the form of welfare, EI, and community service agencies.
I am a young mama myself, and don't have much financial resources available to me, but I'm very passionate about this and would like to make this happen. If anyone would like to help in the organizing, help out at the actual event, or give suggestions on how to do this on a low budget, I'd like to hear from you. If the response is big enough, I will be holding a planning meeting within the next 2 weeks.
I'm on the search for a math tutor. Grade 8 math specifically. I've got some names from the high school and have made some calls, but though what the hell, maybe someone here knows of a good one.
Any leads? I live on the West Side of Van if that helps. Thanks!
I am starting up a childcare exchange in the Burnaby area. Basically, you get free childcare in exchange for caring for someone else's child(ren) at your own convenience. You do not have to be a resident of Burnaby as long as you are able to travel here to drop your child off and care for children in the area.
