Escapade Gushing

Having neither the time nor the brain power to write a full con report, I'll just say this: whoop! My first con! And it kicked so much ass!

Insert large list of "I got to meet so-and-so" here. Insert interpretive dance of fannish glee here.

The panels! The panels were so much fun. Clearly metadiscussion floats my boat. Sitting around listening to people making intelligent, insightful comments and expressing opposing viewpoints had me buzzing for the entire weekend.

Mostly I played the observer this weekend. I didn't participate much in any panel discussion save that on Queering the Buffyverse, which just kicked so much ass. Emma's comment that it bothered her that a clearly strong, capable character (Buffy) failed to defend herself during an attempted rape sparked a thread that made me uncomfortable, frankly. (The response began as an attempt to suss out why this characterization did or didn't make sense to folks. Eventually it appeared to be suggesting she just figured it was her fault and that she deserved it. I rather doubt anyone meant to say that she *did* deserve it and that she was in any way asking for it. Still, many comments were rather broad and therefore made me uncomfortable.)

I didn't adjust to the 3 hour time difference. I managed to stay up past midnight each night, but was awake by 5:00-6:00 AM every morning. Not wanting to disturb my roommates, I was up and out of the room by ~6:15AM each morning. My start to the con went like this: wander out into the lobby obscenely early in the morning. Meet the other fan still operating on EST. Have breakfast and discussion. Continue with my day.

Now I must prepare for school. I'll try to flesh out this con report sometime later.

It is possible that the time changes on the return trip are addling my sensitive brain. This morning I made a pot of coffee...without actually using grounds. I peered at the oddly clear coffee for a while before figuring it out.
