balloubear Unfathomably deep album, absolutely worth the wait. Such a profoundly beautiful tribute to Laika and lovely continuation of her story. Favorite track: The Black Sky.

jorgenfromnorway Another masterful and outstanding Bluetech release. I am already a few listens in, and it keeps on growing on me with all sorts of intricascies and warm melodies. There is just a lot of heart, skill and wisdom in this release. Bravo, thanks for making this excellent music!

  3. Promises
by Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra
    supported by
    onetr thumbnail
onetr A strong showing in minimalist classical in its own right, made even more interesting by the fact that this is Pharaoh Sanders' last appearance in music ever.

Side B kicks off with an incredible tear-jerker sequence, hence I put Mov. #6 as my favorite track! :) Favorite track: Movement 6.
    Ghuughra thumbnail
Ghuughra I know pundits like to throw around terms like 'breathtaking' and 'transcendent' with all the restraint of a toddler with a can of silly string, but d*mn if I can think of a more fitting set of adjectives.

Don't think I've ever heard anything quite like this. Pharaoh is the type of virtuoso that doesn't need to blow you out with tech to leave you speechless. Got me feeling emotions n sh*t. Favorite track: Movement 7.
    luixcampox thumbnail
luixcampox Masterpiece! .. complex and subtle. Something holds everything togheter, stable, but also there is always change and movement.

Can't imagine how precise musicians must have been, and what a state of focus required to perform this whole sound trip.

badgerworld There isn't really a decent way of describing this other than "it's just really, really pretty".

Yeah - it's really, really pretty, and the arrangements are proper solid stuff. Nice. Favorite track: Mike Neko.
    DW thumbnail
DW Intricate, delicate and moving. A voice like silk. What's not to love?! Favorite track: Waga kado ni.

    Jan Vrobel thumbnail
Jan Vrobel Im returning to this album for years, so I guess its classic for me at this point. I wish Marthe all the best, this is really one beautiful valkyrian crust induced Bathoresque metal. Ive heard it dozens of times and I love every minute of it, including fantasti Siouxee cover. Favorite track: I Ride Alone.
    Gorgochov thumbnail
Gorgochov The whole record is amazing, through and through. Her style is viscous and harmonious all in one. Love it!
    spectral_grøøve_HM2 thumbnail
spectral_grøøve_HM2 I've rarely heard such a gripping & intense album. An ingenious blend of heavy, doom, stoner & black... it's a very singular and profound sound.
This haunted, hoarse voice is transcendent..
What an outstanding work here !
Love it 🖤 Favorite track: Victimized.

novoidn This Album is just insane and has some real weight to it. WTF all around. Love how much space the vocals take up in the mix.

thevelvetunderdog When I say WEIGHT I mean HEFT and when I say HEFT I mean HEAVY, and when I say HEAVY I mean THIS.
    cypsee thumbnail
cypsee Music for skeletons. A forceful and insistent piece with absolute command of its sonic niche, umbilical is the best Thou release so far. thematically consistent and striking balance between moshy and doomy, once you get past the slightly draggy first track the record opens up into a massively fun and compelling experience. Favorite track: Lonely Vigil.

    mattgraupman thumbnail
mattgraupman A perfect balance of chugging death metal sludginess and face-melting hardcore intensity (and I love the dual/dueling vocals). Why limit yourself to one or the other? It's 2024! Get in the pit! Favorite track: Breath Of Life.
    Bart thumbnail
Bart I prefer the more straight-ahead tunes like "Out of Grasp" and "Dance on Your Grave" with the dual vocals adding to the urgency. Who the hell am I kidding? This new album is just another excuse to see this great live band again. Favorite track: Dance On Your Grave.
