Despair is Where My Thoughts Swim is not only bereft of any and all positivity - it lacks every emotion except for utter and brutal, emotional pain. It's like an exposed nerve being sawn in twain with a rusty blade over the course of 50 minutes. The vocals are astonishingly wrecking, while melodies and keyboards elevate the record with irrefutable, yet powerful simplicity. Likely the most depressive post-black metal of 2024. Sonny92 This is Occult Stoner Doom 101 with little deviation from the template pioneered by Sabbath and refined by Electric Wizard seemingly aeons ago. Despite this, it has terrific songs, titanic riffs and a thunderous bottom end, enough to appeal to any real fan of doom metal. Hipsters unwelcome! Favorite track: Infidel.
