Obsidian One
I discovered this album way back, but kind of forgot about it. This has great atmosphere, with a black metal purity to it enhanced by keyboards, creating a sound both sad and celestial. The emotive riffs and icy-cold drum blasts express melancholy, but also solace. The momentum building from 2:34 of 'Moon Behind the Storm', and the transition at 3:17 — yes! 'Funeral of Lamentation' is equally evocative, and the intro to 'Sanguinas Path' is masterful artistry. An underappreciated album.
