  1. A Handful of Nuggs
    by Primus

electricpuppettheatre They really break out the fancy fingers on this one. Duchess is not one of my top Primus songs, but the live version here is wicked good. It's also a good pick for this EP: the whole thing has a heaviness that reminds me of Brain era Primus. Favorite track: The Ol' Grizz.
    Moses D. thumbnail
Moses D. Primus is the reason I picked up a bass in the first place. New Primus gives me an irreplacable joy. I had a band named Grisvvold at one point, so the first tune speaks straight to me.

    Great grooves as always.

    Cheers,
    -Moses D.

mattgraupman The Black Keys are such a polished rock 'n' roll machine these days that it's hard to believe that they were ever as rough and scuzzy as they were on "Thickfreakness." This album is 11 slabs of loose, boozy delta blues. Their next album, "Rubber Factory," is really where they solidified their early sound but "Thickfreakness" stands out, if only because never before or since have The Black Keys sounded just so fuckin' dirty. Favorite track: Hold Me in Your Arms.

    DAS VILLAIN thumbnail
DAS VILLAIN I was aware of The Black Keys, but never took the time to listen to them...until now. I love the blues rock/blue punk/indie rock/cowpunk/garage band aesthetic! The duo pays homage to legendary blues artists (of old), but also drays inspiration from hip hop and rockabilly with a modernist twist. Yet, their stunning debut release is all about the blues and traditional rock 'n roll where rock music isn't dead, yet, but going back to the basics and true intent: rebellion against the establishment. Favorite track: Work Me.
