Kelvin (Navajo/Diné) Imagine if the Star Wars alien band in the Tatooine bar played crushing atmospheric death doom. Favorite track: Phlegraean Fields.
    Dan Curhan thumbnail
Dan Curhan Filthy AND progressive?? You've got my attention. This album has some of the most thoughtful and mature songwriting I've heard in a long time - excellent attention to detail, and a satisfying arc. Very, very good.
    Chimplord thumbnail
Chimplord I LOVED Barishi and was crushed when they broke up. I was beyond stoked when I found out about this project.
This is amazing start to finish.
    Album of the year????

    by REEKING AURA
    supported by
    positronicping thumbnail
positronicping Reeking Aura are OSDM masters, lacing the filth with proggy, melodic and atmospheric aspects that seamlessly augment the vintage DM core. And of course, Will Smith's iconic gutturals land like a tidal wave of sewage. My expectations were high, and they've been exceeded with this album. Favorite track: The Cathedral's Calculation.
    RADEMASSAKER thumbnail
RADEMASSAKER WILL (not the thug) SMITH DELIVERS GREAT VOCALS AND THE BAND REALLY HAS A UNIQUE SOUND AND SONGS WITH HOOKS! Favorite track: Concrete Basin Bath.
    thekurtaction thumbnail
thekurtaction Filthy OSDM with Will Smith on vocals but also genuinely beautiful melodies and atmosphere. The pacing of the album as a whole is perfect. Favorite track: Gorged Beyond Grudges.

    And a better world

Thanks a lot ! Favorite track: The Mangrove, the Preserver.
    satangutsandchristcorpsepaint thumbnail
satangutsandchristcorpsepaint Sick With Bloom is to me, an artful allegory for all that is Mother Nature's seemingly brutal indifference to suffering, which in reality is pure, all-encompassing love where every creature and creation is allowed evolution into it's truest form without judgement or restriction. Favorite track: What Filters Through the Copper Stain.

gnihilo So dark, so angry, so much passion...! This release proves that you don't need heavy instrumentation to create an incredibly heavy atmosphere. An absolutely stunning release! Favorite track: Burst.
    R. Z-F thumbnail
    R. Z-F Hands down my 2025 aoty! - and certainly a band that MUST be seen live if you're so blessed with the opportunity. Favorite track: Burst.

s60r_ Sunbather has always just been there for me and for a lot of people I know. This album has helped me get through so many tumultuous times in my life and feels like a warm embrace after the fire leaves my heart. Thank you Deafheaven. Favorite track: Irresistible.
    Noahie Valk thumbnail
Noahie Valk absolute classic. no words. Favorite track: Dream House.
    cryptivyx thumbnail
cryptivyx Manages to feel so crushing and emotional at times yet perfectly composed the whole way through. A beautifully intense and exciting listen. Will forever be one of my favorite albums ever. Favorite track: Vertigo.

worthlessanimal My favorite band in the world. <3
    Dani Labisse thumbnail
Dani Labisse This album reminds me of seeing them in concert. Once in 2018 and then in 2025. Nice setlist, I would say. Favorite track: Baby Blue (Live).
    hills. thumbnail
hills. For me: this live album has the best rendition of Vertigo. Sunbather's mixing of Vertigo close to a decade ago didn't do Deafheaven's vocal performance well, but this live album blew it out of the park with how crisp-clean the range of frequencies are. Favorite track: Vertigo (Live).

Ippocalyptica Iceland never went away, but Iceland is so fucking back! I also have it on good authority that a few other Icelandic BM bands who have been “dormant” for a while will be erupting later this year. More thoughts to follow on 26 June.

seed_murda This first track released (supreme ornaments) spoke to my soul. Haven’t hit the pre-order button that fast in a long time. Looking forward to this release.
    positronicping thumbnail
positronicping If the preview track is anything to go by, we're in for something special here from Fournier. This is the best kind of DM: a dynamic, intelligent song structure paired with pure putridity and drums that make your teeth rattle.
    metaldave2026 thumbnail
metaldave2026 I am so very excited about this release, the Death Metal vibes are on fill display here and it is gnarly!
Feels techy without straying from a OSDM mold and it just works so well,
do yourself a favor and hit that pre-order button. Favorite track: Supreme Ornaments.

maxlphillips This feels like being forced to listen to the album of the year through a thin, muffling film. The compositional beauty is consistently and pervasively mind-blowing – never letting go of my ever-pleased attention – but the recording quality almost castrates it. Despite that, I came out of this thoroughly harrowed; unrelentingly pummelled with gorgeousness to the point of complete cleansing and reinvigoration. Favorite track: Ghost Eyes in the Fire Light.
    Aimfri thumbnail
Aimfri I'm not crying, you're crying! Favorite track: A Culture of Wilderness.
    Joni Korpi thumbnail
Joni Korpi Some damn good catharsis in here. Favorite track: Woodland Caribou.
