In-Character Information

Name: Wave the Swallow
Game/Series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Teacher/Student/Other: Student
Canon Point: After Sonic Free Riders
Age: 18
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: College Freshman/Part time security
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorm

Personality:
The best way to describe Wave is probably not the most flattering. She's a mechanical genius, a prodigy, a gifted racer, and planner. She's also arrogant, self-assured, sneaky, underhanded, a master thief, rude, and insulting. Quite the charmer.

Wave is absolutely intelligent, a child genius whose talents were nurtured by her father, the only person she would readily admit is smarter than her. Everyone else, however, she considers inferior, unworthy of being called her rivals. She has incredible knowledge of machines, computers, math, and physics, but particularly in the area of Extreme Gear design and construction. In this field, she has no peer, at least in her mind. Tails and Dr. Eggman have come close, but Wave will always perceive herself as the better engineer. And because of that assuredness in her own greatness, Wave gleefully mocks those less intelligent than her, seeming to take great pleasure in seeing people get angry at her offhanded comments. In private, she will admit to herself when people have skill, but it's a rare day indeed when she'll ever admit that to someone else. As the chief mechanic of the Babylon Rogues, Wave has an almost obsessive drive to ensure the team is outfitted with the best in equipment at all times, tuned to perfection personally. As a result, she refuses to accept her Gears being faulty as an explanation for any failures. If you suck at flying or racing, that's your own damn fault, not hers or her Gear's.

If you want something done right, do it yourself. It's a mantra she had drilled into her head from youth, and it's one she takes to heart as a member of the Babylon Rogues, a generational team of thieves also known as the Legendary Wind Riders. Her teammates Jet and Storm look to Wave for her problem solving and technical expertise, and she doesn't disappoint. She plans heists, invents any gadgets the team may need to pull them off, hacks computers for information, decodes stolen data, whatever you need her to do, she'll do it. Because she's the only one who can. She can even come up with all new plans on the fly if things start to go south, and she's helped keep the Rogues out of lockup so far. She'll readily scoff at Jet and Storm for their ignorance, especially Storm. The two argue almost constantly, and it's only Jet who manages to keep the flimsy peace. Wave has some respect for Jet as their leader, and as the fastest of the trio, but at the same time she considers his seeming laziness and tendency to let things get personal for him as his greatest flaw. Wave feels like sometimes she has to do all the work on the team, especially when Jet's pesky sense of fair play gets in the way of their payday.

Wave is underhanded and sneaky. She'll use every means at her disposal to achieve her goals, even resorting to cheating if push comes to shove. Carefully disguised cheating, of course. She has standards to maintain, after all. Wave's guiding force is wealth and profit, and she has an eye for it that Jet and Storm lack. She can see the value in prizes beyond precious gems or gold, and when she's set her sights on something, she'll pursue it with all of her energy. Nothing annoys her more than to see Jet pass on opportunities because of his silly honor. She concerns herself with reputation, her own and that of the Rogues themselves. They have a long and storied heritage, stretching to even the stars.

As intelligent as she is, Wave actually embraces certain superstitions in her daily life. She believes in the old tale about wishing on shooting stars, a story that comes from their ancestors, the ancient Babylonians. She familiarizes herself with whatever information she can find about the Babylonians, fascinated by their life and culture. She has a thirst for knowledge and truth, and does her own research in her spare time to prepare for any contingency. Few things manage to surprise her, especially defeat, and she doesn't take it well. She'll turn compliments back on people, and she'll insult and chew out those who she sees as showing pity on her. She believes in personal accountability for failure, and if she fails, it's because she did something wrong. Didn't foresee a problem, didn't adequately prepare for something, or worst yet, just wasn't good enough.

Despite all of the frightfully antisocial behavior she often displays, there is a sliver of hope. Wave is a very loyal bird, and the Rogues can always count on her in a pinch. She's able to put aside her ego and frustrations when faced with disaster, and will rise to any occasion called for. That said, she also knows when to admit defeat and just walk away, cutting her losses in the process. She genuinely worries about those she cares about, although she'd never tell them, and she'll rush to the defense of a friend being insulted or mistreated. You don't mess with Wave's brood. She is a superb racer and athlete, with incredible balance and grace on her Gear and off. She's acrobatic, pulling off tricks like handstands and twirls on her board with ease, and she trains regularly to keep herself in racing shape. She has the most raw skill of all the Rogues; Jet excels in speed, and Storm in strength. Wave excels in raw racing talent.

Backstory:
Once upon a time, the ship of a race of aliens crash landed on Earth, stranding them there for the rest of their lives. Their engines disabled, the aliens, the Babylonians, began to make a new life for themselves on their new world using their advanced technology to make their lives richer... in more ways than one. The Babylonians were master thieves, stealing from anyone and everyone. They were also the masters of flight, developing technology that would become the basis of the modern day Extreme Gears. The greatest among the Babylonians were known as the Babylon Rogues, and even when the majority of the Babylonians disappeared to myth, legend, and whispers, the Babylon Rogues carried on, the descendants of the team taking over from parents as they retired or died. The ship that brought them to Earth, the Babylon Garden, was buried in the sand to protect its secrets, the key to reviving it left as a keepsake passed from leader to leader with each successive generation.

Today, the team consists of three members: Jet the Hawk, the brash young leader with everything to prove. Storm the Albatross, a slow-witted tower of brawn and loyalty. And Wave the Swallow, a brilliant inventor and mechanic. Together, the trio, living and working out of their airship, robbed and plundered their way across the world, establishing a name and reputation for their skill. Wave always knew she would be a Rogue; her father before her was the chief mechanic under Jet's father, the previous leader of the team. Wave's father taught her everything she knows about designing, building, and tuning Extreme Gear, and she adored him. His encouragement and teaching nurtured her young genius and set her on a path of science and technology that she travels to this day. After he passed away, the role of team mechanic fell to Wave, and she's determined to make him proud of her.

As time went on, the truth about the Babylonians became lost, even to the Rogues themselves. And although he had inherited the Key to Babylon from his father, Jet had no idea how it worked or what it would do. All they knew is that the Key would supposedly give them access to Babylon Garden, and the treasures within. Which was reason enough for Jet to want to activate it. Finally, he got his chance, when a stranger arrived at the Rogues' airship. His name was Dr. Eggman, and he had a proposition for them. He had knowledge of how to activate the Key, and informed them that it involved the seven Chaos Emeralds. He made a deal with the team: Find the Chaos Emeralds for him, and he'll help them activate the Key and raise Babylon Garden. Unable to resist the allure of treasure, Jet agreed. Their first stop was a Chaos Emerald stored in a facility in the city. The heist went off without a hitch, the Rogues making their customary entrance and escape with the Emerald. There was only one catch: Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends Tails and Knuckles were there. Having been warned by Eggman beforehand, Jet was unimpressed with the ground dwelling speedster. Sonic couldn't keep up with them on foot. He managed to get Storm's Extreme Gear and tried to give chase, but his inexperience with the device meant that the Rogues easily outclassed him.

The very next day, Dr. Eggman began phase two of his plan: announcing the EX World Grand Prix, a racing tournament of his own design. The opponents: The Babylon Rogues. The entry fee: One Chaos Emerald. The prize: All of the Chaos Emeralds. Seeing little choice, and eager for a rematch, Sonic and friends took the bait and entered.

The early matches went well enough. Storm was eliminated by Knuckles early on. Knowing they might need some insurance, Wave took matters into her own hands, interrupting a conversation between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, where Tails attempted to explain the finer details of Extreme Gear to Knuckles. Under the guise of wanting to examine Tails' handiwork, Wave asked to see Sonic's Gear. Admitting privately to herself that it was quite a nice piece of engineering, she proceeded to laughingly mock Tails' efforts. And while the heroes were distracted by her put-downs, Wave attached a micro explosive to the Gear before returning it. Amy, angry for Tails on his behalf, challenged her to a race. Wave won the race, eliminating Amy from the tournament. Unfortunately, she was then eliminated from the tournament in a race against Tails.

Jet, suspecting Eggman intending to double cross them, ordered Storm to sneak into the mad scientist's base and find some evidence. Before the final race in the desert, Storm returned with a digital journal of Eggman's. Wave hacked into the journal, and revealed that Eggman knew more than he was letting on. The real treasure of Babylon Garden was technology, and he naturally planned to betray the Rogues to get it. Jet immediately lost interest in the tournament, but Wave quickly pointed out that if Eggman wanted this technology, it had to have value, perhaps even more than conventional treasure. His greed re-stoked, Jet prepared for the final race. Unfortunately for the brash bird, Sonic was in position to win... until Wave detonated her hidden explosive, disabling Sonic's Gear and allowing Jet to cross the finish line, believing he had beaten Sonic fairly.

The Rogues claimed their prize, and Jet used the Chaos Emeralds to power up the Key. Upon activating, Babylon Garden, a vast floating city, rose from the desert sands, theirs for the taking... until Eggman snatched the Key, and flew off on his own to claim the treasure. The Rogues took off after him, and Tails flew the heroes to the island with the Tornado, providing Sonic with a new Gear. And while Sonic and Jet had their rematch on the surface of Babylon Garden, Wave and Storm were left to fend off Tails and Knuckles. But before a fight could break out, a swarm of Eggman robots attacked, forcing them to all to make a hasty retreat, battling the robots as they raced. Wave and Storm were separated from Tails and Knuckles, and when they arrived, it was to a surprising sight: Jet had lost in a fair race with Sonic. Sonic had the Key in his hand... and offered it back to Jet. Jet, feeling unworthy of it after his loss, refused it. Wave, however, refused to accept that, taking the key from Sonic on Jet's behalf. When they activated the key, however, the result was not at all what they expected. Facing the Babylon Guardian, the protector of the treasure, Sonic and company returned to aid in the final battle. When the Guardian was defeated, and the treasure ready for the taking, Eggman arrived, armed, and demanding the treasure for himself. He opened the chest and found... a rug. The note inside said they had learned to master flight itself. Eggman, refusing to believe that THIS was what he spent all this time trying to get, left disappointed. Had he remained, he would have learned what the rest did: this rug was in fact a flying carpet, the precursor to modern Extreme Gears. Taking the rug, the Rogues and Team Sonic parted ways, with Jet promising that they would meet again for a rematch.

A short time later, that promise came true. Following another lead on Babylonian technology, the Rogues arrived at the Gigan Rocks, and there discovered a ring shaped stone that had the power to bend the laws of gravity. Wave's research discovered its name was the Ark of the Cosmos. There were five of them, and together they acted as the engine of Babylon Garden, which remained floating in the desert following the EX World Grand Prix. Seeing opportunity, Jet set out to find the remaining stones, not realizing that they had already started to fall into the hands of both Dr. Eggman, and Sonic the Hedgehog, who was investigating reports of the security firm MeteoTech's robots going berserk.

The hunt finally brought the Rogues back in touch with Team Sonic in MeteoTech's HQ, where together they learned that MeteoTech was Eggman's cover all along. He had always planned for the robots to go berserk, but the discovery of the Ark of the Cosmos caused the robots to lose control ahead of schedule. Parting ways following this revelation, the Rogues returned to the airship, and Storm returned from his exploits with two more of the stones. With four of the five stones in their possession, Wave was able to decipher more details about their power, and a legend about how Babylon Garden fell: that the engine was shut down for fear of the "lightless black" consuming it. Unfortunately, as Wave explained that, Eggman snuck on board the airship and stole the stones they had managed to collect for himself. How he managed that is a feat unto itself. The Rogues gave chase, meeting up with Team Sonic at Eggman's Crimson Tower, a control spire built near Babylon Garden that would allow him to control the world's robots using the power of the stones. Rather than teaming up, though, Jet offered a challenge to Sonic (much to Wave and Storm's disbelief): Whichever team reached the tower first would get all of the stones.

Of course, despite Team Sonic winning the race, Sonic still handed over the last Ark of the Cosmos to Jet before they left. It came to Wave again to tell Jet to get over it, so that they could claim what they came for. But it wasn't over. As they left, Tails finally worked out what the myth about Babylon Garden meant. If all five Ark of the Cosmos were reunited, the resulting power would open a black hole. One of the surviving MeteoTech robots, detecting the stones, ambushed Wave, stealing them from her, and taking them to Babylon Garden. Upon arrival, a black hole did indeed begin to open, swallowing Babylon Garden and destroying it, continuing to expand. Their only chance to stop it was to go inside and destroy the stones once and for all. Upon their arrival, they were challenged by the transformed robot, now called Master Core: ABIS, and managed to destroy it, and the stones, closing the black hole. With the crisis averted, the two teams parted ways on friendly terms, though Jet promised once more to have a rematch.

The Rogues got their chance one more time, as there came an announcement of a new EX World Grand Prix, this time completely unaffiliated with Eggman. This time, the host was King Doc, the ruler of Toreggmania, and totally not Eggman wearing a pompous wig. With the promise of great loot, and a rematch with Sonic, the Rogues signed up. This time there were more racers: Team Hero, consisting of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles; Team Rose, consisting of Amy, Cream, and a shanghaied Vector; and Team Dark, consisting of Shadow, Rouge, and a former Eggman robot, E-10000B, because they didn't have to create a new character model for him, er, apparently Omega had better things to do. The tournament was fairly standard, surprisingly, and the Rogues met every challenge that came their way until they got their showdown with Team Sonic. Determined to win, Wave once again attempted to sabotage Team Sonic's Gears; this time, however, Jet suspected her foul play, and they repeated their final race enough times to satisfy him. With Team Sonic on top, all of the teams were called to the awards ceremony, where it turned out that King Doc was actually Eggman wearing a pompous wig all the time, and that E-10000B was secretly recording their racing data for him. By programming this data into his Gear, Eggman was determined to take them all down, and challenged all of them to a race.

So naturally he lost. Wave figured out the real reason right away, and gloated about it. Eggman's data was fake. E-10000B was being controlled by Metal Sonic, who had kept the real racing data for himself. He wanted one thing: a one on one race with Sonic. And once Metal Sonic was naturally defeated, Eggman's plan was left in shambles. But things got worse for the heroes: There was no reward. So all of them were forced to go home empty handed, with only their fond memories as the prize. Wave and Vector were understandably not satisfied with that outcome.

A short while later, in an attempt to soothe her frustrations at having wasted all that time and energy for nothing, Wave insisted the team return to Gigan Rocks to see what other information they could find about the Babylonians. Convinced that such legendary thieves had to have stored loot around the world, she believed that there could still be profit to be wrung out of their situation. As they split up to search the ruins, Wave found a room with an odd inscription on the wall. When she attempted to translate it, she was consumed by a bright light... When she came to, she was in a city she had never seen before. She was alone, with only her Extreme Gear at her side. She had to figure out where she was and how she got there, but most importantly, she had to find out of there was anything of value to take.

Anything Else?:

  • Wave's primary Extreme Gear is the Type-W, a well balanced Gear of her own design. When it performs a Gear Change, it transforms into a ridable glider.

  • Wave's primary form of offense is a large wrench. She has also been known to use dynamite or other explosives in the middle of a race to attack opponents.

  • Wave has a portable holographic computer contained inside the red gem she wears around her neck.

  • You think you can win with that board?

[When the camera feed crackled to life, it was obvious that the webcam was somewhere other than a student's dorm. It was outside. Was that... Was that the roof?]

You know, the security on the school network is kinda awful. It didn't take me long at all to hook up my personal computer.

[Wave held her holo computer back so that she could get more of herself into the frame. She was reclining on the school's roof, arm behind her head, just chilling.]

The name's Wave the Swallow, of the Babylon Rogues. If you haven't heard of us, then don't worry, you will. I'm gonna be joining you for a little while. Temporarily, mind you. This place is such a dive, I can't believe anyone comes here willingly...

So let's make this very clear. Stay out of my way, and I might stay out of yours. Get it? Good. Then I think we'll get along just fine. You need me, I'll be in class. Or in the security office. Can you believe they're just giving the job away in this place? Later, losers.

[End transmission.]

In-Character 3rd person sample:
Around the rooftops of Final Destination City, a purple blur shot between buildings, zig-zagging its way around expertly. Wave the Swallow had never been to this city before, but a big city was a big city, as weird as it was. She could find her way around well enough. There had to be a reason she was here, she knew it.

Gigan Rocks... She remembered it vividly. The airship hovering overhead... The Rogues taking off on their Gears, over the long stretches of stone and moss. "We meet back here in an hour. Don't be late, or we leave without you," Jet had told them.

"But boss, what if YOU'RE late?" Storm asked in confusion.

"Then wait for me!" the hawk screeched. Wave smirked at the sound. Typical Jet...

The trio each swerved off in a different direction, and in no time, Wave found herself floating gently between columns covered in ancient text. She recognized them instantly. Babylonian script... The same kind as where they found the Ark of the Cosmos. Something had to be here. Kicking off of her board, Wave quickly caught it under her arm, a practiced motion she had done many times before. Gear riding, treasure hunting... It was all easy for her. She bet she'd find something of value here well before Jet and Storm. Running a gloved hand over the tallest of the columns, Wave muttered to herself, "Let's see what you're hiding." She reached for the red gem around her neck, detaching it and pressing a hidden button. A holographic display hummed to life before her, and Wave lowered her sunglasses, pointing it at the script on the column. "What the heck does this mean...?" she asked as the software in her computer began to translate the scanned text. "Door to another world? The Final Destination? This doesn't make any kind of sense."

She was so caught up in the text that it took a few moments for her to notice a loud cracking sound. She quickly switched off the display, looking around the columns surrounding her. Were they crumbling?! They didn't look like they were breaking. But there was a loud rock cracking sound, all the same. A rockslide? "What the heck is going on?!" she called out. "I am NOT staying to find out," she said, dropping her Gear and climbing on board. She kicked off, taking off to try and put some distance between herself and the pillars. But the sound didn't get quieter. Don't look back... Don't look back...

When she looked back, Wave's eyes widened. A white light shone forth from the pillars, and was getting closer. She gasped. She tried to boost, but it just kept gaining faster. Finally, the whole world went white. There was no pain, no strange sensation, just a blinding flash, and suddenly she was somewhere else...

Wave shook her head, continuing to fly. That had all been days ago. Whatever it was that brought her to this weird place had to be connected to those weird inscriptions. The focal point of all this weirdness was there, in the distance. Smash Academy. If that's where her answers laid, that's where she'd go.

Well, guys, this is it. It's been fun, but I'm moving on. I think I've finally figured out what I want from life, and my new husband's gonna help me do it.

Knuckles, keep in touch, or else.

Paula, I'm really gonna miss you. I'll write, okay? I expect you to let me know how things are going!

Auto Shop students, it's been great. You were a great class. I've got your final marks posted on the classroom door.

Keep it real, everyone! Wish me luck!

babylonmechanic: (So awesome)
I'm feeling cooped up in here...  I just need to get out and stretch my legs.

How would you feel about going out for a race?  Just you and me, the wind in our faces, the ground rushing past...
babylonmechanic: (Grump grump)
I get that a lot of you want to use the auto shop room for your own projects, but at least make sure you clean up after yourselves.  I'm looking at you and your motorcycle, Falcon, if I knew it was you.
babylonmechanic: (Kickin Ass)
*Some time around lunch, someone mysteriously hacked into the computers in the library.  But they didn't go for any information or anything of the sort.  Far from it.

Simultaneously, all of the computers in the library started to perform a song...*

babylonmechanic: (Explaining)
This week, we're having class at the hot springs.  Bring a swimsuit.

Stupid staff retreat...  Hmph!  Like I'd want to go team building with people like Fatso.  So what happens when you can barely stand to be in the same room with someone you're expected to develop teamwork with?

*Private to Sonic*
I'll miss you.  If you end up going to Knuckles' party, make sure you have enough fun for me too, because I sure as hell won't be having it.
babylonmechanic: (Working Girl)
Well, I heard back from the Hands about the application I sent in...

Anyone coming back next year, you just got yourself the best Auto Shop teacher you'll ever have: yours truly!  I'll see you in class!

[Private to Sonic]
Well, looks like the prom will be my last hurrah as a student...  Wanna make it the best night of my life?

Well, have fun everyone!  I'm going to go see my friends for the holidays...  I haven't seen them in almost a year.  See you all soon!
babylonmechanic: (Thoughtful)
Two things. First of all, Goose, when do you want to go get a drink?

Secondly, everyone in the racing club. What would you say to having a race this coming saturday? I'm trying to book us a racing circuit near the Mushroom Kingdom to get us started off. Sorry for all the delays, but let's get this show going!

So...

I'm sick of studying for a while.

Sonic, Knuckles, anyone, who wants to entertain me?
babylonmechanic: (OH GOD WHUT)
You know, I think we all learned something from this.

Never make out during a zombie attack.

Never make out while your boyfriend's stalker is nearby.

Make sure you have blunt objects handy during a zombie attack.

Halloween night is a bad time to summon a glitch monster.

Holidays at this school are NEVER, EVER NORMAL.

babylonmechanic: (Thoughtful)
Since we haven't had a meeting in a while, I think the next meeting of the Racing Club should actually be a practice race.  I know a good track we can use, so what time would be good for everyone?
