I also took notes in panels today, as one does. (As no one else does, apparently, but I like having the reference.) Today's notes cover Women of a Certain Age, Not All Aliens Act Japanese and Feminist Hackerspaces: The First Year.

I will note that my feminist hackerspace notes are not as complete as I'd like; I was in a fair bit of pain by that point and gave up on notes during the Q&A. Since both Liz Henry and Leigh Honeywell have the initials LH, I've referred to them both by their full names (but other panelists by initials).

avendya: Close up of Cara from Legend of the Seeker (LotS - Cara)
I took notes in a couple of the historical panels, and figured I'd share them. So: here are my notes from The Once and Future Badass: Historical Women Who Inspire, Challenge and Unsettle Us and Real-Life Medieval People of Color.

I will note that my own comments/contributions in The Once and Future Badass aren't recorded, because I am not skilled enough to take notes and talk at the same time.

All errors are, of course, my own; please let me know if you find any.

Also, the article on a couple of women who were huge influences on the blues mentioned in The Once and Future Badass is here.
avendya: A picture of Vienna Teng, caption "exhale, inhale" (Stock - Vienna Teng)
Vienna Teng is, hands down, my favorite artist. (Musical artist, that is.) She describes her music as chamber folk, and it is - it features piano and violin (and occasionally more exciting things) frequently. Her voice is absolutely stunning, and Dreaming Through The Noise is my gold standard for an album. Basically, if you download one track from these music downloads, download Harbor. (Harbor is actually not my favorite track - that honor belongs to Recessional, but it is one of the most accessible.)

She is a Chinese-American who writes songs about her identity as such (Grandmother Song). She has a degree from Stanford in computer science, and a minor in history. She is going back to school to study sustainable enterprise, and does her best to put her eco-friendly ideals into practice. She also seemed a genuinely nice person when I talked to her after a concert, and I really want to be like her when I grow up. (I should also put together a [community profile] multibeautiful post about her, because - seriously. (warning: large image))

There will be a fifth album uploaded here in a week to ten days - her live album is released May 17 - but as it will arrive after Three Weeks For Dreamwidth is over, I thought I'd go ahead and upload these. ETA: Her live album is uploaded here.

Teaser tracks:
Gravity (from Waking Hour)
Harbor (from Warm Strangers)
Whatever You Want (from Dreaming Through the Noise)
Antebellum (from Inland Territory)
