'Cello Happenings

Don't know if anyone still reads this community, but there's been a few things going that any remaining members may be interested in.

The founder of this community is blogging very frequently on cello-related and more broadly musical topics: http://silpayamanant.wordpress.com
Really enjoying his writings.

One of my bands, Hydrogen Arm, put out an album featuring my (often heavily) effected playing on a few tracks: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/hydrogena…

I released a solo net album featuring effected cello solos in the opening and closing tracks: http://jkndrkn.com/main/endings-be…

Theta Naught, a band I'm playing cello and electronics in, will be touring in March and will be playing a SXSW event: http://schedule.sxsw.com/events/ev…

Free cellopop music

Hello friends,

Just wanted to let you know my latest three releases can be downloaded for free (pay-what-you-want) on bandcamp.

In case you don't know who I am, I'm a solo cellist-singer-producer who's also collaborated with Rasputina, Abney Park, Voltaire, Vernian Process, Jill Tracy, Stripmall Architecture, Eliza Rickman... I could go on.

Here be free music (three albums on the top row):

I really need help spreading the word if I want to keep doing music fulltime, so if you like what you hear, please share the bounty with your friends. Thanks!

treble tabs to bass clef???

So, I've been playing cello for under a year, but I'm completely loving it. I want to ultimately play beloved punk and rawk songs on it. Shouldn't be too difficult, right? Only they are all written in treble clef, and usually I can only find guitar tabs of the songs. I'm pretty new to reading music, but I'm doing a pretty good job on sight reading bass clef. My question is this: If I find guitar tabs that say something is a C and an F#... can I just play a C and an F# on my cello? Or do I have to completely modify the note to make it sound right on the cello????

i play a yamaha SVC-110 and i'm actually pretty happy with it. I have been trying to record some stuff with garageband on my mac, but it just plain sounds like shit. i don't really know enough about recording to know where to start to get a better sound. in defense of my cello, i used to use an acoustic with a fishman pick up, but that sounded even worse and dealing with all that and feedback was a pain in the ass. does anyone have any advice for me on getting better sound while recording with an electric instrument? I am running my cello to the mac with an iMic adapter. any help with recording would be amazing.

I was wondering if anyone has the cello part to any of these pieces. I'm really desperate to get them asap, which is why I'm resorting to LJ before trying to buy them. I'd really appreciate it if someone could send me a pdf.

Thanks, cross-posted a ton.

i have to sell my yamaha scv-110 to like, eat and live. if anyone is interested, it includes the chest piece, gig bag, some cables, a couple pedals, and a bow. asking $1000 (plus shipping cost). it's in great shape, except i have 1 odd peg as i broke one of the originals. please e-mail dwarfstar16 at yahoo dot c0m instead of replying here since I can't check lj from work. thanks!

I know this is kind of a strange question, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any stores that usually have electric cellos in-store for people to try out in Berlin, Germany; Chicago, IL; or Pittsburgh, PA. I'm thinking about starting my search for an electric cello, but for obvious reasons I'll want to try several out before I commit, and the cities I listed are all places I'll be within the next week. Thanks!
