Going to see Sky Captain tonight...whee heee! Jude Law is, like, so hot. OMG. ;)
I made an appointment to see Mr. Doctor next week because I need more allergy pills (dammit) and because I've been slowly gaining weight for no particular reason. Nothing terribly dramatic, but annoying none the less. The only reason I'm really concerned is because the last time I had a bloodtest (about a year and a half ago) I was told that my thyroid was "borderline." An underactive thyroid supresses your metabolism and since I've actually changed my eating/exercise habits for the better in the past year, that seems a likely culprit for my extra poundage. Fun times.
I'm also in the process of getting the ball rolling on my student teaching. My first choice school is one of the largest high schools in the state, so I should stand a pretty good chance of getting placed there. And (if all goes well) a job there would be nice, since it's right in the area I want to live. And I am counting down the months to financial solvency and to moving out on my own again, lemme tell you.
My quest to buy more "grown up and professional, yet also fun and sexy" clothes continues. Directionless and I had fun times playing dress up at the mall yesterday. The people at the Gap must love me, because I've been doing an awful lot of shopping there lately. Their clothes SUCKED ASS for a good couple of years, but I've had really, really good luck with their new fall stuff. I particularly love all the '50s retro stuff that's everywhere now. I now own two of those boat-necked, Doris Day-esque sweaters. Yay fun new clothes!
Sexy, always ready to give and receive. Very creative, adventurous, ambitious and passionate. You have a cold exterior but are warm on the inside. Not afraid to take chances. Will not settle for anything average in life. Love to laugh.
According to Variety, Jude Law will be starring in a production of Hamlet in London in early 2006...I think I feel an overseas vacation coming on!! And I'll have pleeenty of time to save the money. Anyone wanna come??
I went the Ren Faire with da Bean and Obsidian Sins yesterday; 'twas much fun. Unlike last year, the weather was perfect. Not too hot, not too wet. I got to wear my garb for the first time, which was very exciting!! And I bought a green velvet pouch-pursy thing that matches my outfit exactly. Yay garb!! I love the Ren Faire folk--even the pickle sellers that heckle you at every opportunity. I need to see when the CT faire is...anyone wanna come?
On Friday Bean and I went out with an old friend of ours that I hadn't seen in, like, ten years. It's been old friends reunion week around here lately; must be something in the water. At any rate, it was great to see him again and hopefully it won't be another ten years before I see hime again. And I know EL will wanna get a piece of this action, too, so here's hoping he's back in CT soon.
I actually ended up in the City on Saturday night, which was a little surreal considering the date. Eep. I saw the blue-light-towers-memorial-thingy, which was cool; they have a neat visual effect and I hope they do it every year. All in all, though, it wasn't weird or awkward being in the city that day and we had a lot of fun--cake, witnessing numerous canoodling gay couples, etc. Can't beat that with a stick, really! ;)
Current Music
the construction equipment directly outside my office window
This evening I'm going with Miss Bean to visit an old friend of ours from high school; should be much fun! I got my hair cut today and bought a cute scarf and Urbain Outfitters. I can't wait til the weather cools down so I can actually wear it. It's completely and utterly disgusting out there. Blech. This is why I could never live in Florida. Speaking of, what the heck did they do to get Mother Nature so pissed off at them?? It's starting to get ridiculous!
According to the AP, more memos have surfaced that show Bush wasn't such a good little boy when he was in the Guard. Swift Boat this!!
Teens needs to throw more parties. Seriously. I haven't laughed so much and so hard in a reeeeally long time. There should be a law about how many comic story-telling hams you can have at one party!! And the food, as always, was awesome and completely worth the wait. :)
Didn't do much today...had to run to CompUSA for a new ink cartridge, did my homework like a (mostly) good little grad student. I'm already kinda sick of school. Not a good sign. Although I do really like my "how to teach writing" class. We're doing a lot of stuff I haven't done before, which is always nice and the prof. (who I had twice as an undergrad) is awesome. My other classes should also be useful, but......well, they just lack that je ne sais quoi. Which is a fancy way of saying they're gonna be boring as fuck and I should just start searching for an ice pick to stab myself in the head with. Ah, the joy of teacher certification couse work.
I finally finished reading Middlesex--big thanks to El for recommending it way back when. I really enjoyed it, especially the first and last sections. The middle dragged a little, but it totally payed off in the end. Now I'm reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, which, believe it or not, I've never read. So far it's a nice change of pace. I totally need to get ahold of Everything Is Illuminated, which I hear is pretty schweeet. Hopefully that'll happen before the movie comes out. :)
If you ever decide to go to the Meadowlands, be sure to bring an atlas and compass. And enough food and water for four days. You might be awhile getting back. ;)
I've come to the conclusion that New Jersey is the spawn of the devil. The signage is unclear, the people are (by and large) unpleasant, and the ETS is located there. Need I say more?
I still haven't registered for the Praxis, partially because of procrastination and partly because their online registration site crashed yesterday. I guess everyone else was trying to beat the deadline, too!
Is it wrong that I wish I was 15 again cause all the little emo kids amuse me?? I mean, those flannel shirts I wore in high school were comfy and all, but geek chic is way more flattering.
So, apparently John Kerry once saved his daughter's hamster by fishing out of some water and giving it mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. That is a mental image I'm not quite sure I ever wanted in my head. Though it is damn amusing. ;)
