HELP NEEDED WITH 4 WEEK OLD KITTENS

I desperately need some help and advice from anyone who knows anything about looking after 4 week old kittens. They were advertised free to good home, and I was told they were 6 weeks old, but there is no way they are that old, and my step daughter who has handled animals all her life agrees with me.
I need to know what and how much I should be feeding them, what other care they need, and how do I show them what the litter tray is for? At the moment (I got them yesterday), I have been giving them Whiskas cat milk (low lactose), the sachets of kitten food (like the tinned stuff only made smaller for kittens and in nice neat little sachets, which say 1-2 a day, so I've been giving them half a sachet each twice a day or so. I have put milk in a bowl but as I"m not sure if they know how to drink from a bowl I have also been feeding them milk (with added multivitamins designed for kittens) from a 10 ml syringe (without the needle). They are starting to learn to hang onto the plastic bit at the end and just drink it down, which I think is good.

The smallest (and most gentle one) one has kind of yellowish stuff around it's eyes, which I have been gently wiping away with tepid water with a pinch of salt in it (about the same strength as tears or weaker), zie is not too keen on it, but as the kittens wash each other, face included, I didn't think swallowing mucky stuff would be a good idea.

The other thing I have no idea on, which is why I have had them over 24 hours and they are still unnamed is that I have no idea how to tell whether they are a boy or girl or one of each.
This is what they look like (made into icon size instead of cut)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting This one is slightly bigger and noisier, and less friendly, if startled it will hiss
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting The slightly smaller one (with the bigger appetite for food), this one has the 'weeping' eyes.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting A furry handful (they sleep curled up together and like to be held by the same person, not separated)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting The closest thing these little ones have now to a parent- that's me!
All advice MOST gratefully received!
Thanks
Simon

Tonight, my cats and I are sad.

I'm sad because I finished all of my sushi and am still hungry.

Dana's sad because I ate the entire last piece myself and he didn't get any.

Timmy's sad because, although I shared previous pieces with both cats, Dana claimed the last few pieces for himself immediatel, and even went so far as to paw one piece away from Timmy while he was trying to pick it up in his teeth.

Alex is sad because, not liking sushi, he didn't get a special treat.

Solution? Get more sushi tomorrow. And maybe make something with tuna fish so Alex can have a treat.
