Oh hai. I keep thinking I should update but never actually get around to writing out the posts. I'm putting an end to that right now.

1) Last Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] tanisafan and I saw Foster The People in concert and it was pretty swell. They only played for an hour and a bit -- somewhat inevitable with a band that has just released its first album in May of this year -- but the songs we got were wonderful and fun and excellent to dance to. All in all, an excellent Saturday night activity. Well worth braving Brussels' red light district to get to the venue!

2) After a short hiatus, this week I was finally able to bring my back my movie-going on Friday tradition for In Time. I'd intended to catch the 16.30h screening but then a case at work exploded and I ended up working on it until 19h (and taking the file home with me). When I finally left work, I was pretty exhausted and seriously considering postponing the movies for a week, but eventually said "fuck it", decided I deserved a movie outing, and took myself to the 19.30 showing.

A good decision, it turned out, cause In Time was perfect for de-stressing and kicking off my weekend. Just the right amount of plot, intrigue and action, and pretty pretty cast (&MattBomer;) to boot. The only thing it could have used less of is teal and orange.

3) ANDREW AND EMMA WENT TO SEE JESSE'S PLAY LAST NIGHT. *FLAILING TILL THE END OF TIMES*

4) In teevee news, I'm caught up all the episodes I missed when I was in Tenerife. Still loving on Fringe, Parks & Recreation, Community (six seasons and a movie!! >:|), Misfits, Chuck and Castle. On the other hand, Dexter, How I Met Your Mother and Gossip Girl are bumming me out, as is Grey's Anatomy (not for sucking, far from it, but from doing you know what; fuck you, Grey's!). I'm also watching Glee, Bones, The Office US and Private Practice, but don't have deep thoughts or intense feelings about them.

5) My trusted cell phone, an old Nokia 6555 that I've had for over three years, decided to pretty much stop being functional (I can't hear anything when I make a call, even if the person on the other end of the line can sometimes hear me). I've currently fallen back on my previous cell phone, an even older Nokia 3200 that works just fine, but I'm intensely hunting for a new phone. Possibly my first smartphone!

Therefore, talk to me about your (smart)phone, flist! What do you like/love/hate about it? What should I pay attention to when shopping for (smart)phones? I don't want an iPhone and, since I really don't call/text all that much, I can't imagine dropping more than 150-200€ (200-260$) for a new cell phone. That being said, if you have just the best phone rec ever, I could possibly bump up that budget.

6) And finally, a song that I love: SafetySuit - Find A Way [YT preview]! Alternative rock with wistful undertones. You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me.

I think this post got long enough so I'm going to wrap it up. Don't worry, though, I'll be back. (I already have a list of things I want/need to tell/show/ask you guys and it contains, but is not limited to, the following topics: a poll about new teevee that I should try out during the upcoming winter hiatus; pictures from Tenerife/Corfu; Amazon's ridiculous shipping restrictions when I just want a pair of headphones, seriously, how is this so difficult?? (will perhaps feature my begging for your help); tumblr and how I'm considering getting one.) Later!

:DDDDDD

Therefore, talk to me about your (smart)phone, flist!
I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini, mostly because that was the only affordable smartphone available with my contract, and it's not too bad. Not amazing, either, but if you can't spend a lot of money, I'd recommend it! (It used to be around 300€, apparently, but seems to be less than half of that now, at least over here.) The screen is pretty good, as is the interface, it's reasonably fast (although there are a few interesting apps that aren't compatible with it, and web access doesn't work well when you're in a moving vehicle, although that might be just my provider), it comes with a 2GB memory card (and I think you can use ones with up to 6GB or so?) and I like the size and weight - it's not huge, but I'm also not scared of crushing it. Oh, and it has Swype, which I LOVE. A huge downside for me, and the main reason why I wouldn't buy it again, is that the camera is complete crap, but I think if you don't care about that, it's not a bad choice.

I KNOW, RIGHT?? :DDDD

I've never had a Samsung but I'm hearing good things about them. And I actually just saw this model online for 99€, which is not a bad deal at all!

although there are a few interesting apps that aren't compatible with it
Oh man. Which apps, for instance?

I'd never heard of Swype, but some googling got me curious. Having a (good) camera isn't really essential for me, so that's not too bad.

And you can use twitter/lj just fine on it?

If I recall correctly, it's most photo apps that I was disappointed about not being compatible, so that might not even be a problem for you! Twitter and Facebook run just fine, and I never tried LJ but I'm pretty sure it would work as well.

I was wary about Swype at first, but it works really well and much faster than normal typing. But of course you can just turn it off, too.

That's good to know! I, um, may have acquired a Galaxi Mini in the meantime. And spent my entire trainride home playing with it. It's so adorable omg!! And there is internet on it. *gasp*

Haven't given Swype a try yet, but I'm going to.

Yay! :D Having internet on the phone still delights me any time I use it, to be honest, so I totally understand the excitement! :D

Btw, if you're looking for apps to install, Soundhound is pretty much my favourite thing - perfect for when you have a song stuck in your head and don't remember who sang it. :D (In the German Android store, at least, there's a free and a paid version - I have the free one and it's more than enough.) And out of the bazillion Twitter apps I actually think the official one is the most user-friendly, but many others don't seem to think so, so I don't know if maybe that's just me...

It's totally futuresque!!

I will definitely have to hunt it down! (I'm also going to make a post soon in order to beg for app recs, I think. Heh.)

Also, I'll have to learn how to use twitter, now that can actually tweet from my smartphone, as it's intended.

Wait. Matt Bomer is in In Time? Now I'll definitely have to see that movie. :)

My phone is a bottom-of-the-range smart phone, and I love it. It's a samsung galaxy fit (http://www.samsung.com/galaxyace/fit_overview.html). It has wifi, so it's great for checking email (or LJ) when I'm away from home. I bought it outright for about AU$200 - so (assuming it's available over there) it should be within your budget. The operating system is probably slower than the newer (more expensive) phones, but if you're after something pretty basic (but still shiny), I highly recommend it.

Yes, yes he is. And he looks GORGEOUS on the big screen!!

Ooooh, that looks nice. I just checked a few shops and they don't offer that same model, but Samsungs seem pretty cool, so I might get me one of those. I seriously don't need it to be too fancy -- as long as I can check my email and maybe update LJ/FB/twitter, I'm set.

Thank you so much for you input!

Uh oh, my smart phone is an iPhone 4 (about to turn a year old) and I seriously do not see myself needing another phone, iPad, new computer or anything remotely tech while this shiny black apple is in my hands. lol I can go DAYS without using the laptop now! (I still use my iPod a bit though, just saying...)

That being said, my Android-fan co-worker tells me HTCs are pretty good, and for non-Apple products I've heard pretty awesome stuff from Samsung, so... The only advice I think I can give which is general is: get something with touchscreen. :)

Oh man, me and Apple tech are just not destined to get along. :( But your iPhone experience sound amazing!

Samsung is probably what I'm going to go with, so it's good to know that they don't suck. And touchscreen, absolutely! Maybe now I can finally start using twitter, yey.

NOKIA 3200!!! I had that phone for six years - it lived through anything, even being left out in the snow for an entire night. And it was very easy to fix if anything went wrong, until the day the on/off switch got broken. I miss that phone. On the other hand I now have easy access to the internet whenever, so...

I have a HTC Desire now. It's a nice little phone, but I dropped it on the bathroom tiles once and the flash popped out. That wouldn't have been a problem if it weren't for smartphones needing professionals to take off the cover so it can be popped back in.

But according to my friends (who sells phones) HTCs generally lasts much longer than Iphones.

BTW, hi! How are you?

Isn't the Nokia 3200 great!? I've been reacquainting myself with it for the last couple of days and I still remember everything. *nostalgia*

Maaaaaaan, I've been looking at and drooling over the HTC Desire for a while now, but I cannot see myself spending between 350 and 400€ on a phone. I can almost get a tablet or netbook for that price! And I just really don't use my phone that much.

What does your friend think of Samsungs, do you know?

AND OMGHI! I'm glad to see you around, it's been a while. I hope you're doing fiiiine. I'm alright too. :x

It's so great! I miss it a lot.

My mom actually gave her HTC to me, claiming that she didn't like it (she always tries to sneakily give me stuff so IDK). Now she has Samsung Galaxy and she loves it. Someone else I know got it this summer and they seem very happy with it too.
I don't know what those in the business think of it, though. My friends there just always rambled on about HTCs.

I'm not much an LJ anymore, but I still pop by once in a while. So many wonderful people here ♥
