Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

      H.E. Amb. Amma Twum-Amoah
      Amb. Amma Twum-Amoah (Ghana) was elected as Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development (HHS) department. She is the former Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and South Sudan and the Permanent Representative to the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).       About Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development (HHS)
      The Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development (HHS) works to promote the AU’s health, labour, employment, migration, social development, drug control, crime prevention, sport and cultural agenda.
      Directorate of Health and Humanitarian Affairs
      oversees the policy and strategic development and delivery on implementation of decisions of AU policy organs in the areas of Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development. The Department has two (2) Directorates, Five (5) Divisions and 10 Specialized Institutions:
      Humanitarian Affairs Division
      The division of humanitarian affairs provides continental direction to the achievement of durable solutions for addressing humanitarian crises.
      The AIDS Watch Africa (AWA) Secretariat
      AIDS Watch Africa (AWA) is a statutory entity of the African Union with the specific mandate to lead advocacy, accountability, and resource mobilization efforts to advance a robust African response to end AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria by 2030.
      Directorate of Social Development, Culture and Sports
      Comprises three (3) Divisions and is tasked with a broad spectrum of issues related to continental socio-economic development in the following areas:
      Labour Employment and migration Division
      The division of labour and employment focuses on the rights, labour standards, integrated employment policies and social security systems
      Social Welfare, Drug Control and Crime Prevention Division
      The Division works with Member States and development partners to create and strengthen social protection systems that aims at reducing social and economic risk and vulnerability.
      Culture and Sport Division
      The Division of Culture and Sports harmonises and coordinates activities and policies across the continent, in order to build further structure and opportunities for using culture for integration and African renaissance, cultural development, promotion of creative and cultural industries.
