Im Ju-Kyung is a high school student. Since she was little, she has had a complex about her appearance. To hide her bare face, Im Ju-Kyung always wears make-up. Because it was very lighthearted, it was very funny, very sweet and very romantic! Excellent cast of actors and actresses! Super handsome Cha Eun Woo! He’s beautiful! And a great natural actor! Hwang In Yeop also very good looking and a great actor, which would be nice to see him in more leads! Leading ladies, Mun Ka Young, so very pretty and a very good actress! Lim Su Mi, who played her sister, so funny, very good actress and very pretty! Park Yoo Na, also very pretty and very good actress! Actually every single person in this cast was great! This drama is a picker upper for anyone who’s a bit down and out! Great Plot! Will watch again!
Nadia Dec 18 2025 10:30 am This is one of the funniest dramas I've seen. Definitely one to watch when you need a pick me feel-good drama. At first I was getting annoyed with her fear of being "caught" but I got passed it and simply enjoyed the characters. Moon Ga Young as Lim Ju Kyung was simply hilarious. Not a weak moment. Her family... hilarious! Love this drama.

I don't get bored when I start to watch it again and always anticipate the next episode. Haha. Just finished my last episode and so far, this is my 5-6th time watching it.
Ciepao Dec 18 2024 1:09 am I guess people were so bored during the pandemic that they made this drama. This is a 2012 type of Korean show. I can give you a lot of old kdramas that have exactly the same flow and plot. Yes, it has its own twists, but not exactly new either.
The only thing worth watching in this show is the relationship of the older sister of Im Jukyung, which is Im Heekyung and Han Joonwoo. I like the character of Heekyung here, a strong and cool woman (I'm trying to be like her fr). And my baby Kang Soojin (Park Yoona) also did great. This is also the first drama of Kim Minki (who plays the younger brother of the female lead, Im Juyoung) where I saw him, and he did not disappoint.
I only give this a 5.5/10. Let's be real here: if the two male leads are not handsome, people won't love this drama that much.

Hwang In Yeop is now my fave k-actor i watched it once every year since its released date hhahahha I watched all of his kdrama (esp. Why Her) im so glad that this year, 2024, In Yeop has new kdrama Family by choice :)

KT Apr 27 2024 12:44 pm It’s a feel good and entertaining movie. The male actors are great. The female lead is not bad, but for some reason her voice is a little annoying especially when she cries. Her lips are always so dry that even her lip tint looks weird sometimes. She’s all gums when she smiles, but still very charming. My favourite characters are the female lead’s big sister and teacher. They’re hilarious.

BY Jul 22 2023 1:56 am Rewatch until i forget how many times..and saw new many fans edit till today eventhough this drama end years ago. I miss interaction by all players. All so good of their look and acting skill. The plot sometimes not make sense and silly..but that the way to make it fresh and fun. The one thing im surprise is the society there which the drama must come from reality in the field....why its hard to accept and easily intimidate for the people who not fit the beauty standard, it's sad.

I get that English may not be your first language, but that was really harsh. Why does it affect ANYONE else, much less an entire community when one person is not considered whatever are the current standards of attractive? I am kind of astonished at how you also considered this horrific bullying to be not so bad. I shudder to think how bad bullying is where you live…
BlankFace May 05 2023 1:26 am If you've just watched The Glory and need a break to calm your emotions down, this drama is a go to. Nothing intense. Just a bunch of teenagers experiencing life. The ML is cute alright but i love 2nd ML, he carries the character very well. The FL however.. What's with that voice? Sheesshh! Overall the drama is fun to watch. Also applause to the sister & teacher. The drama will be totally lifeless without them.

Ergo, they can’t act! The only one who knows the profession is Jang Hye Jin who is a seasoned performer.The plot is a bit stupid too but perhaps could have been pulled off if there was a touch of comedy.

s Apr 02 2023 3:44 am This drama was meant to be a fun cute drama that wasn’t too serious but at the same time shed light on some important topics and it did just that. This drama was just a simple rom com so I didn’t expect a deep dive into any of these topics (apart from bullying as that’s pretty consistent throughout the show) and neither should you. I loved the main couple together (the fml especially did an amazing job) and the side characters were really fun. I really enjoyed it and if you’re looking for a fun casually watch I really recommend (although nothing beats watching this back when it first aired haha). Also the extraordinary you cameos are something to look out for
Jenny Feb 28 2023 7:18 pm Although this series does not have the same emotional intensity as Something in the rain or One spring night, it does investigate some realistic life problems - adolescent sensitivity regarding one’s looks, bullying at school, unrealistic parental expectations and peer group pressure. The four main characters all suffer scars from a painful past. The female lead plays the role of a sweet, innocent, thoughtful teenager beautifully. It’s difficult to believe that anyone with a choice of staying in the US or being flown home for continuing treatment would be kept in the US for 2 years given the massive cost involved. Still, there is a happy ending and that’s certainly something to be thankful for.
May Feb 26 2023 2:04 am I really like the lead stars Cha Eun woo, Hwang In yeop and Moon Ka young. This Park Yoo na, saw her in rookie cops. She is not a good person there at first. And then here in True Beauty, thought she's nice but again played the role of not a good person. Ummmm, I think, I am not liking her more. Please next time get a role to a be a good person.

At least in the webtoon they (spoiler) dated for a while but not only did he get heartbroken but didn't even get a (sort of kinda) happy ending! I love Suho and hes def deserves joo kyung but Han Seo-jun will always be my option.

Writers of this drama forced Seo-Jun to love Juyeoung just to extend to 5-6 more episodes. And after that they didn't even give a good justice to Han Seo-Jun's Character.

When everyone is pretty, the one that is not will be considered a wierdo and get exterminated to save the face of the community. I have seen worse. The thing is, Ju Kyung just have problem with skincare, and instead of taking serious treatment, she applied even more cosmetic products on to cover it. Her face could get worse in real life. Why does nobody ever think of going to a doctor? Even JK mom took her to get plastic surgery.. What a stupid thing. To answer the question of "From Best to Bored", the couple had to break up because they were so madly in love with each other. If you truely know what mad love is, then videocall 24/7 only make it worse. They want to meet each other, hold hands, kiss and do all things like a normal couple would. But now they are parted and see no future of reunite. If they keep meeting over the phone like that, they would only get killed by themselve slowly by lovesick. It was wise that Soo Ho is the one who dare to break up first. He released JK from the love chain they once tighten up together. I personally faced this situation when I had to break up with my GF to go study abroad 10 years ago. We never cross each other again, knowing that fate separated us and now we all have new happinesses in different places. If you really love a person, it is not that keeping him/her around, but to think the best for his/her future even if you are in or out of the picture.
From Best to Bored Jan 11 2023 9:46 am Why make the ML to take a pause and want to break up from his gf just bc they are continent apart? It doesn't make any senses at all. They are madly in love and suddenly they have to physically distance themselves from each other due to some reasons but it doesn't mean it's the end of the world. With today's technology they can make a videocall 24/7!! And consider the ML he has nowhere to go and nothing to do apart from sitting around his father's bed and wait for him to gain conscious, why doesn't he grab this opportunity to teach his gf online??? I feel like the story is dragged and go nowhere coz they have nothing else to do since the ML and FL fall in love so the writer has to put on reverse gear to tear the ML and FL apart.

This kdrama is so refreshing , never get bored even watched the funny moment couple times. Strong chemistry between lim jukyung and unfortunate second lead Han seoujun causing many fans edit mostly can be found surface in internet for this couple- its dumb and dumber its cute make u smile yet saddly cry of one sided love.

KST Jan 25 2022 6:20 am I just finished watching this series. Wow its really amazing. I really enjoyed watching this series. The plot story is really impressive. Though it seems a bit fairy tale the outer appearance of people are really concerned in the society specially in countries like south korea. That is why people are tend to do plastic sergeries even. Though this storyline is a bit similar to the drama My ID isgangam beauty this is totally different from gangam beauty. I choose this thousand times over the Gangam beauty.The main couple 's chemistry was really amazing. But I love Hwang in yeop 's acting more than Chan eun woo. Anyway Cha run woo, Moon ga young and Hwang in yeop all act very well.The other actors too act very well. This is my first time seeing Moon ga young in a drama. I think she is acting well and mostly suitable for a comedian actress. This is one of the best school dramas ever. Try watching this drama this won't waste your time. Saranghae!!!

The romance between Im Ju-Kyung & Lee Soo-Ho is too good to not make a season 2. They've been together since they were kids and it only makes sense to show more of that, and the story of Lee Soo-Ho's mom and how it slowly affected him along with the death of his friend. We can see more of Im Ju-Kyung's life after college as a makeup artist and how her confidence has risen ever since she showed her true self and was expected.
This story is great and deserves another season!

Though the show was good, I couldn't help disagreeing with some of the polts. To me, beauty shines through your personality. If you have a stinking, rude, mean, selfish, just absolute disgusting personality, you're ugly. Mun Ka-Young had the type of aura I would be attracted to. To me, I would rather be seen by the whole world as being friends with the "ugliest girl" than being bullied by the actual ugly girl. Like, would you be friends with the mean girl who throws stuff at you and made you look like a complete idiot then be friends, with the most Pretty Ugliest Girl who would take risks to help you and who was so selfless and cared so much for you-like, come on!

Cha eun woo was a bit lacking but the entire cast just lifted up the series so well, I really loved it! Jokes and personality for each portrayal were on point especially the Saebom Highschool cast and Jae Kyung’s Family, Im Se-Mi and Oh Eui Sik were fucking hilarious! :D It’s like the 1988 series all over again, I’ve never laughed and cried so hard except for these two series :D hoping they build more TV series with Hwang in-yeop in it as well!!! If you like a light, feel-good and relatable series this one is definitely for you also ;)

the acting skill of the main female characters here are excellent, and hwang in-yeop shows improvement compared to his previous drama (kudos to him for working hard in back to back dramas) and there is a room for improvement for him.. and the male lead literally should stop taking main roles, he isn't ready for it

The message of learning to love your face and self was skewed so far in the webtoon and to be honest was not very impactful in the drama either. She started to gain most of her confidence, because suho was there to assure her, but what if he wasnt there what would she have done then? Most of us out there dont have two handsome guys fighting over us, willing to do our beck and call. What are we supposed to do in Jukyung's situation?

I read the webtoon and I hated that they didn't give seojun a chance with her, I loved and rooted for seojun both in the book and movie. Cha run woo was a better actor here than in Gangnam beauty. The story between the younger siblings and the teacher and elder sister was funny. Also they should have stucked with making Soo jin evil from the beginning not just switching her up in the middle, I really liked the actress, she's so beautiful noticed her from Gangnam beauty. Conclusively it your typical cliche kdrama but still very enjoyable.

This drama is very much aesthetic. It's feast for the eyes. The plot, however, is not that great. Even though the story about a girl slowly gaining her confidence about her looks might be touching, it feels like the writers forgot the main point in the middle of the show and just decided to focus on the love triangle. Well, I don't know about others, but to me it was clear from the start that Ju Kyung would end up with Soo Ho. Seo Joon definitely stole the show with his straight outta anime face. Seo Joon's character, however, was nothing special. I feel like the writers didn't even give him a chance to develop. He was just stuck in love the whole time. The drama gets extremely draggy after the time jump and I just wished for a quick end. I liked it, but I feel like some things could've been done better!
PS: If you liked Moon Ga Young as Im Ju Kyung, I promise you will looooove her as Choi Soo Ji in Tempted. She was excellent in there. It's one of my favorite dramas to this day. Give it a try if you can!

Kdrama Addict Mar 27 2021 10:31 pm This show prioritized love triangles over the message of the show. As you can see in the comments, people focused on the triangle. It is a typical cliche rom-com. Of course, she not going to choose Han Seo Jun. In doing so, people forgot why she wore makeup and how the leads met.
The FL had major insecurity issues that were never addressed. In the first episode, she almost jumps out of a building because she felt insecure. She overcame that only in one episode for about 3 minutes.
To include, I guess what the writers were saying is that personality is better than looks. However, they made it seem that every "pretty" girl was mean. Only "ugly" girls were nice and have the best personality. I think that sends the wrong message to people. It gives off an impression that if you're pretty, you're a horrible person.
With that, Kang Soo Jin was written horribly. The beginning of the show great. She became that girl crush. She was tough, smart, pretty, and somewhat loyal. Once she was fond of ML, she suddenly turned sour. Like the writers forgot her character. They were like, I need a typical mean second female lead. It would have made sense if she wasn't like that at the beginning of the show. Where the students thought she was cool, but they were scared of her. Similar to FL's bullies at her old school. Her storyline is traumatic. She needed help more than a love storyline.
Another problem with these shows is the "villains." In her old school, there was a group of people bullying her. You can see that throughout the show. However, towards the end, they went unscathed. Boo Hoo that Han Seo Jun chose the FL over you. They never received any punishment for being bullies. Another villain was Kang Soo Jin's father. He physically abused her. For him, his punishment was being a divorcee. He should have been in jail.
Also, their bullies were all over the place. There were some at her old school. I think should have been the main antagonist. This is when she stands up and says F*CK you and leave everyone alone. Why did the writers have three more bullies that did not relate to her storyline. As we watch, we know there were others. However, why did the FL decided to the F*CK moment to them instead of her old bullies. That made me think that her character development felt unsatisfied. For me, it felt okay and didn't feel like a huge hero moment for our FL. Again, the antagonist never received punishment.
If I was the writer, I would have made sure that Kang Soo Jin was never the main antagonist. It would have been cool to see a second female lead not be against other women. As for Han Seo Jun, I would not let him suffer for the entirely of the show. I mean his mother was in a hospital, his friend died, and he felt alone. All he got was his debut. For me, where he moved on with another character and they are a popular music duo. Or something along those lines so he is not crying on the staircase. Also, my message of the show was to see her accept her beauty and help others see that too. Compared to the show, where she was forced to show her "ugly." Another message would be no matter your appearance, your personality will shine with or without makeup.
I have written too much about this show that it makes me feel like I hated it. That is not true, it is a great show in terms of casting, acting, and directing. It is like a 7 out of 10. It is a typical rom-com kdrama. If you're going to watch it for its message, then do not watch it. But, if you're going to watch it for Han Seo Jun, then go on ahead.

I thought of dropping the show after episode 8 but I didn't and it is actually getting better. Also, Cha Eun Woo acting is still stiff at some parts but he is definitely getting better. Especially the scene where he shows a lot of emotions, crying and everything. Overall, I would say that this is worth watching. 7/10 from me.
- The last 2 episodes is very draggy and I don't like how they focus on the love triangle instead of turning Soo Jin into a good character again - Seo Jun sacrifice at the end is very painful and sad to watch. I almost cry at that part. haha - I don't like a "time jump" in a drama. It is very lazy way of writing. The breakup also is another way of dragging the drama. I hate that. - One more thing, I would prefer a school drama to end how it starts. Means that it ends on a school era as well. I don't like when they cut to the characters pursuing career. If they want to make pursuing career things, I would prefer if they do it right after everything is already done. (this is just my honest opinion) ^^

But in every episodes I was only looking forward of seeing Hwang In-Yeop. I didn’t even know him at the beginning. He acts so well in his character and have a lot of charisma. Hwang In-Yeop’s portrayal of Seo-Jun made this cliche simple plot drama more fun and exciting.

This story is not about Seojun so you haters better shut up, this is about Jukyung's story and how she gets her own happy ending. What I love about Jukyung in the drama is that she showed a big development character where she changed from being insecure about her face to someone who comes to accept her own flaws and embrass them as her own strengh with the help of the people around her.

Surprisingly, the one I enjoyed more in this drama is the sister-teacher love story (Im Hee Kyung and Han Joon Woo).
In both stories though, I prefer Seojun over Suho. I like Seojun's personality better and Seojun suits Jugyeong's personality better. Also in both stories I think Suho is an a**hole from the time he broke up with Jugyeong when he was abroad.
atheana Feb 18 2021 5:53 am The storyline of this drama is actually really cliche, but it is still fun to watch. Honestly, some scenes are kinda cringe and Jugyeong's character sometimes annoys me. I started watching this drama for Cha Eun Woo but ended up falling for Hwang In Yeop. I love Cha Eun Woo, but his character in this drama is just no. Suho is very awkward and sometimes he looks creepy and obsessive. But Seojun's character is very good, and Hwang In Yeop nailed the character. I almost drop this drama, but then I decided to continue it just to see Seojun. It is good if u like high school kdramas. 7.5/10 for me.

Watching for Cha Eunwoo at first but falling hard for Hwang In Hyeop.Seojun is the only character that keeps me watching till the end. if he's not there I will drop the drama.The way they made female lead speak is really irritating.can she just speak clearly with the normal voice tone? and for Suho I'm so confused cause his character is not consistent and they should stop making an over jealous and controlling boyfriend looks sweet and cool cause it's creepy.

:( Feb 15 2021 11:49 pm i just wanted to say....they ruined the webtoon. they made suho look like such a jerk from his almost obsessive stalker behaviour in ep15 to his jerk like reactions everytime he saw jugyeong and seojun together. on top of that, they made seojun so miserable at the end. both chatacters could have been so loveable and i would have been fine with either endings (jugyeong + suho or seojun) if they had just stuck with the personalities and general storyline of the actual webtoon.
Bambam Feb 15 2021 7:54 pm Overall a feel good but cliche drama. Basically every highschool kdrama plot added with new spice (make up thing). Although I can say it's still worth to watch since the visuals, ost, cinematography, etc were a bomb.
In terms of love triangle, although I don't really understand the SLS hype (unlike Start Up which was pretty understandable), since Seojun's character was basically the generic bad boy softie second lead, Inyeop still nailed the character. For Eunwoo, ngl his charcter was alnost similar to his previous drama Gangnam beauty, so nothing new. And lastly for Ga Young, wow, she's a very promising actress.
Overall still a good watch especially for the younger generation. 7/10 rating for me

In Youp act so well and the reason that the drama is more interesting. We didn’t know him yet in the beginning, but he end up stealing our hearts. A big fan of him now. Looking forward to watch more of his drama soon. This time make him the main lead. He deserves it.

But then my mom told me that it's so funny (+im curious to see jaewook as cameo lol). So i try to watch the first episode and BAAM i'm totally hooked on it!!!! I'm binge watching and finish it in 3 days. The writer really did a good job, every episode always make me laugh, i think our gag code is match haha. Yes, i'm staying for the comedy but the plot is nicely done. Simple but still some problems are relatable for some people. Glad i didn't read the webtoon, so i can enjoy it without comparing the plot etc. My fav character should be heekyung and jamong junwoo!!

The plot is not that special but I still love it especially for shinshin couple. Give Them The Best Couple Awards tvN they certainly deserves it like seriously I keep getting butterfly whenever I watch Suho and Jukyung having sweet moments. Their chemistry just overflowing like man make me want to be a high schooler again lol

Seojun's character is made too confident or in Indonesian his "narcissistic" hehehe. here Suho is made to be Jukyung's boyfriend. even though on the webtoon the two of them are not dating because Suho is going to Japan and at that moment he immediately confesses his feelings to Jukyung. it's okay i'm still happy and I also know that seojun will break up with jukyung. It's a shame even though I really support this couple. hehe. the point is the drama i really like Suho handsome, handsome seojun.

As team suho I truly love the ending, but I do feel sad for Seojun I hope he will find someone better later in his life. As for overall story I will rate this drama 9/10 certainly better than the Webtoon that getting no where, the drama has clear path and the chemistry between the casts are great, I love seeing their BTS scenes too because we can see how close they are with each other.

This drama was simple and good yet it has relatable conflicts that some of us do experience. The casts have good chemistry with each other especially the main leads I love Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woo's chemistry they act truly like a real couple I wish to see them again in another project. I love that Seojun got to catch his dream in the end he might be heartbroken for sometimes but I don't think jukyung is the right person for him, he deserves someone better. Hopefully if there is gonna be a second season I would like to see Seojun getting together with someone that actually cherish and love him and Suho-Jukyung's wedding!!

But something was off with the female and male lead character in this drama. The second lead characters are way more better, to be honest.

Honestly, I was bored by episode 16 because it ended like every other drama but hey if that's what the majority of the audience likes then go for it, but it had sooo much potential. I was rooting for Seojun with all of my heart, he was the main reason why I carried on with this drama. His character was very mature and loving. Also, it's weird to me how they completely missed out Suho and Serena being siblings.

Honestly, i think Suho and Jugyeong suit each other. Suho knows that Jugyeong is his childhood friend, and they know each other long time ago. So, why not Suho and Jugyeong be together. They meant to be together. I think Suho not arrogant, but he is not good at socializing with other people cause look how his father treat him. He don't get enough love from his family. Rich with money but poor with love. His mom also dead. They only met with Seojon during middle school. And i think Seojon deserve someone better. Someone that will love him more than he love that girl. 'True Beauty' means that you having a kind heart. Not judge people based on their beautiful face, but look at their good attitude first. Jugyeong is a true beauty. Even she not good looking, but she have a good attitude and a good heart. However, chill guys. Its just drama. Sorry for my bad english.

I really like how the character developement of suho in the drama, compare to the webtoon counter part. Of course can't forget theside love story of hk and ger grape fruit. Over all the chances they made after adapting the web toon worked.
If i scored it now probable 8.5/10, rewatchabilty I'd say yes ?

I would not recommend because of the ending. I really liked the character of seojun, yet he was never treated right. He fell in love with jk because of her actions: she helped him and his sister. Their relationship was so cute and would have been really nice as a couple. The webtoon and the drama are poles apart as the directors changed a lot. They have many sj scenes to suhu. Suho is good too- I like eunwoo a lot but he was not my type in the drama. I didn’t find myself falling in love with his character like I did with SJ. Maybe because I’m a little bit older...but most of his traits were off putting and childish. But SJ really shined with his charisma and maturity and selflessness. He should be out as a lead very soon!

The chemistry between Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woon are really good since they are in same age 20's. Both of them never got any experienced in thiers live dating and fall in love due to busy individual carier and they are doing good together get along with the drama .. The Drama became smooth with all the role mix and really fun . There's no need fr S2 as the ending is happy but hopefully next week have special True Beauty..

Story is too good, the main focus highlights bullying and how people can be shallow, friends can turn into enemies, looks dont matter when people fall in love, family support, suicide- dont do it life is worth living.
The drama was so good I loved how soo-ho grew in the relationship how he was scared of losing her at first because he couldn't bring himself to tell her how he feels, but once he made friends with soo-ah bf he had a friend to encourage him and support him. He started off with no friends and then as he grew he had friends Nd even seo jun
Soo ho fell in live with jukyung without all the makeup he didnt care how she looked his feelings was genuine and he knew she wasnt comfortable without make up he helped keep it a secret from others as she wanted, he supported her from A-Z. They had their arguments like normal couples do who fight over little things and as a teen your joy fully mature. I love how they both grew into mature ppl. Soo-ho managed to save jukyung from suicide and get her to share her feelings and open up to him about the bullies so he made her feel comfortable and let her know he was there for her. I loved how he was scared of losing her and became insecure but as time went he understood he cant be insecure and she has feelings for him and no one else
Seo jun had fallen for her with the make up he never knew until the end what she looked like but when he found out his feelings for her didnt change.
Jukyung his the bullying from her family but soon as she told them it was emotional it made me cry. Her family had no idea what she was going through but once they knew they all supported her and went that extra mile for her. Even her teacher he was so supportive when he spoke to the class about how could they do this to her and be happy about her being humiliated, he tried to teach the kids their actions are wrong.
Soo ah the friend every girl needs who is supportive and she didnt care how jukyung looked without make up she was upset her friend didnt trust her and wasnt comfortable to tell her secret. But Su-jin a friend turned enemy just shows you never know who can turn on you so easily life lesson be careful not everyone will be happy for you.
I hope the show airs on @netflixuk it good for kids to watch and understand to not to bully and be shallow just because of the way someone looks. I love the message it sends you dont need to wear make up to be pretty because good people will love you for how you look without make up and love you for you. I really hope this show wins an award.
sumobo Feb 07 2021 3:12 am i actually like the drama more than the webtoon. well, we all know the director already said the drama is going to be different from the webtoon and I saw that.. the difference is in the webtoon, suho is the actual sad boy and he deserves the world. seojun in the webtoon is too possessive and control jugyeong life when he was with jugyeong and he sometimes mad at jugyeong without knowing the truth (chapter 105). but in the drama, they switched the characters... personally, I like suho's personality in the webtoon but I like Suho's character development in the drama. Also, I really like they change Seojun's personality in the drama bcs they make him more mature not childish like in the webtoon. Anyways, this is just my opinion. The storyline was great it highlighted different personalities and the main focus shows us how people can be shallow and biased based on how someone looks. It's so sweet soo-ho knew all along how she looked like without make up and he developed feelings for her the way she is and found her attractive the make up didnt matter to him, where as seo Jun fell for her with all the make up but after seeing her without it his feelings didnt change. I loved it so much. I hope netflix uk get it, there were funny scenes and emotional ones too.
How she got bullied but could never share it with anyone apart from soo ho after she became comfortable to tell him. And when her family found out about her being bullied it was emotional. This story sends good messages dont be bully, dont be shallow, how not everyone will be happy for you in life anyone can turn anytime and be yourself dont hurt anyone. It highlights how people shouldn't give up easily. Honestly the cast and crew did an amazing job they all deserve an award.
So-ho despite being really good looking wasnt sure if she would like him and he didn't want to lose the girl he had feelings for, but was doing all he could to not lose her, it was so sweet how he wasnt embarrassed to tell the world his dating her and it showed their relationship growing, the relationship improving as it went on. It's one of my favourite kdrama.

Personally, I only carried on watching because of the seojun moments- he was the best thing about the drama. I found suho very obsessive and controlling and arrogant. He didn’t even let her hang out with her friend and he always expected her to get with him or go with him, without even thinking that she had her own choice. I mean, he would just stalk her or drag her by her hand, even when he wasn’t with her. His behaviour is red flags...
Seojun was perfect. He was so loveable and mature: he never overstepped the boundaries- not even once. He waited two years for her so she could run back to a guy that ghosted her- it doesn’t make sense. In real life, it wouldn’t last. I love hwang in yeop on my screen, he gave a perfect performance: the storyline was just messed up.

I had high hopes for this drama in the beginning but after watching all of the episodes, I was quite disappointed for many reasons. The director, writers, and producers gave almost ALL of Seojun's moments from the webtoon to Suho in the drama, making it impossible for Jugyeong to fall in love with Seojun. (No offense, Suho was literally just standing there for the entire drama whenever Seojun was trying to just talk to Jugeyong --> this is what made me dislike Suho also as the drama went on). Despite Seojun always being there for Jugyeong even when Suho ghosted here for like two years, Jugeyong didn't even care. Jugyeong's character development was almost nowhere to be found until the last three episodes... Overall, Seojun deserves better; he did not get his happy ending like everyone else did. I love all the actors but the entire storyline was just messed up.

Regardless of Suho seeing her face without makeup first, I honestly think it would be have bene great to them date or at least have Seojun date someone. They just left him alone which made me feel broken. I would rate it 7/10, there were some good parts, but the drama made me cringe a lot.

rate: 6/10 IRL Ju Kyung would chose Seojun. he is the boyfriend and best friend that we all need ladies.

Yes, it's cliche but that's what made things fun for me. (others say it's cringey but am I the only one who thought it was fit for it?! it suppose to be cliche & cringey because they tend to make it comical, that's why it's rom-com/teen-romance but there were layers: family, friendships, acceptance, achieving your dreams, second chances but y'all here just talk about the love triangle, the webtoon & your favorite characters)
I don't read the webtoon & that was the best thing that I did because we all tend to complain about things when we expect and not seeing them being adapted. Sometimes, you just have to lower your expectations to avoid disappointments. Webtoon & drama are two different mediums of media & clearly there will be differences. I think the drama represented the words & essence of "True Beauty" from the characters and their circumstances. I read an interview with gayoung that she worried about how she represents Jukyung because the cast well knows how the webtoon is popular, they know the webtoon has its fans & I want to say that they did a great job despite the burden they felt at first; glad to know they had fun and learned while filming this series.
Well, anyway the drama already concluded, I'm happy they didn't do an open ending because the characters deserve a good closure which the drama did although I felt like some scenes were rushed that's why I'd rather have a 2hrs of last episode lol. I hope y'all know drama jukyung is more than just a love triangle, drama suho is more than just a visual, drama soojin is more than just a smart girl, and drama seojun is more than just his heartbreak; Sometimes you just have to read those not so obvious lines to know that these characters in the drama are more than what people often thinks of them because that's what the drama wants us to imply but if you really watch the drama you'll know they have layers.
I'm thankful that they cast gayoung, eunwoo, inyeop & yoona because they embodied their characters in their own interpretation we couldn't have another cast like them again, maybe it'll take years again. I've been tuning in to True Beauty because of gayoung but as I tuned in since December, I tend to love the cast. True Beauty made me happy and felt the genuine scenes that I cried. I'm going to miss them, I hope the blu-ray dvd will push through because that's the only time I can see the cast again although that might take a year. If you enjoy the drama like me then I'm happy for you because you also experience the bliss that this series brought to us.

The writers really did the webtoon dirty though:/ they literally gave most seojun moments to suho and in the webtoon, jk loved seojun and be treated her better. We just don’t see that in the drama. Seojun was the best thing about this drama- I know they tried to make suho’s character deep but it just wasn’t captured as much as seojun’s pure emotion. He had the charisma yet he could show pain so wonderfully! He was amazing

I didn’t read the webtoon and I thought SeoJun had a lot of great moments but I’m really surprised so many people rooted for him. Their interaction was lots of fun but it felt more like Jugyeong and her younger brother’s interactions.
Really enjoyed Suho and Jugyeong’s love story and how they were able to grow because of each other. Been going back and watching all their scenes! So sad it’s over!

I have not read the webtoon, but from a lot of fan readings it seems it’s gone on too long. Honestly, if SeoJun and JuKyung broke up in the webtoon anyway, that’s just more added drama to already a convoluted love triangle in the tv drama. She may have “loved” SeoJun in the webtoon, but it seems it did not help her find her True Beauty. It only made her insecurities worse, no matter how hard SeoJun tried.
TV and movies don’t always follow books or webtoons, they inspire it and try to make it better or worse. And I agree with a previous comment, just because he treated her well doesn’t mean she should choose him. To her, she loved Suho. Imagine your friends telling you, choose this guy instead even though your heart is calling out for another.

Different with Han Seo Jun character, he looks like a bad boy but inside he is a mature, caring and soft person. He’s funny too. His scenes are short but interesting. My heart flutters watching Han Seo Jun in episode 15. The writer try hard to make only Suho character shine but Han Seo Jun shines naturally and captivates many hearts.
sunflwrssss Feb 05 2021 4:04 am as someone who don't read the webtoon, i think this drama is pretty good. i like the character development especially for soojin and jukyung herself. i lovee hwang inyeop as han seojun so so much, he's the perfect match (han seojun is an amazing best friend and nobody can tell me otherwise). soo-a is also a very amazing best friend and person! i really ship heekyung-jukyung's teacher and juyoung-gowoon very very much. this drama also give me a good laugh especially han seojun's friend, chorong (he never failed making me laugh). i will say tho this drama is kinda predictable but i guess every romance drama is kinda predictable?? but because it has another aspect (very good comedy) i like this so much???

lolo Feb 05 2021 12:00 am i know there were some loop holes and the ending did feel a bit rushed, but i genuinely loved this drama. if we put aside the fan wars cough cough ermmm yeah let’s not talk about that. it’s a whole comedy show making fun of itself which was entertaining to watch. i laughed a lot, never expected that, but also teared up at some point. it’s a typical type of high school drama filled with laughter and cliché moments but there is also yearning and sympathetic or empathetic moments. it was a high school based drama so don’t expect too much. i love everyone here even the side characters. the atmosphere was so fun to witness. the chemistry between everyone was just so good. i have grown very attached to the cast and i’ll miss everyone. gayoung,eunwoo,inyeop,youna,minah,and everyone, thank you :)

TeamSeojun Feb 04 2021 6:50 pm SPOILERS. The best thing about this drama was Seojun. He was so mature and so sweet and so fun to watch on the screen. We need him as a main. He was such a good friend, son, brother. I was rooting for him at the end but to be honest, he deserves better than a jukyung. I honestly can’t pinpoint why Jukyung was so hooked on suho as I quickly got tired of their romance. A lot of people are saying he’s toxic and boring but are trying to justify it with his family situation, but his choices are his choices. Seojun’s mum was sick, his friend died, he’s the breadwinner of the house. Jukyung was bullied and almost committed suicide. Soojin is in an abusive household: they all had bad backgrounds but we can’t excuse any of their behaviours. They made those choices and he was so creepy at times. He left her when he wanted to and came back and stalked her when he wanted to. Everything happened at his call, and she followed like a puppy. 2 years and she couldn’t forget a guy she knew for w few months. Seojun was the best thing about this drama: he was good looking, charismatic, fun, mature, respectful and the best character in the drama

heartbroken Feb 04 2021 5:55 pm SPOILERS….. honestly i couldn’t even make myself finish the last episode right now because i feel so sad for Seo Jun. i am literally tearing up. this should be illegal. how can you create the most perfect character and make him suffer like that. inhumane! i have never felt so bad for a second lead. and don’t even get me started with the webtoon..... i read it before watching the show and it’s sucks a lot that they are so much different. don’t understand why they made Ju Kyung end up with Su Ho in the show even though she never even dated him in the webtoon and it’s not like she ran straight to Su Ho when he came back.... She was still in love with Seo Jun. ugh.... i would be very disappointed with the show if Hwang In Yeop was not there. he was the best thing in that show and still can’t believe that that’s how everything ended for him. suggest everyone to read the webtoon.... i can’t relate to Ju Kyung from the show at all. don’t understand her choices... well i’m off to cry more.

Every episodes were served with a lot of funny scenes. All characters have their own charms. Eunwoo's acting is getting better and better. My moon gayoung is sooo pretty not only face but her personalities as well. She so fit to be in Jukyung's character. I wish to see both of them in different project(s) in the future. Overall, this drama deserved my love and support <3

It's Seojun who atleast gives a little color to the scenes. His dark nutty and chocolatey charisma is charming. While suho is like a flat chunk of white chocolate. Just saying :) but you guys give it a try. Who knows, you might view it differently :)

The bullies are so mean. Wish Jukyung would learn some self defense skills. She let’s the bullies get to her. As long as she lets them “get” to her, they are going to continue to bully her. She needs to fight back and/or show she is not afraid of them. Since this a kdrama, we all know that there will be a happy ending and she’d probably end up with Soo Ho.

This is the drama that you can anticipate to see the behind the scene, funny comical scenes, bonding between families, appreciation to true friends and also self love. This is the drama that can make you smile over the cringey scenes. This is the drama that can convince you that love (subjective to everything) is real regardless anything.
P/S: The chemistry between male lead and female is so off chart! would love to see gayoung and eunwoo in different drama with different genre in the future. btw, whole cast are actually good!

If you read the webtoon jugyeongs and Seojuns relationship was toxic although they were cute they had no communication whatsoever. It Started off cute and I really liked them together mind you I was and still am team suho. I wished them happiness til it got toxic and many Seojun fans will say it wasn’t but he was possessive and got easily jealous of Suho she would avoid talking to Suho because she feared making Seojun mad. They would have constant miscommunication issues. Anyways yeah just wanted to fill you in.

Cliche storyline (2 handsome men fighting over a girl), the male & female lead somehow got their fate intertwined when they were kids and classic “handsome & rich man who falls for ugly woman”.
Also the love scenes in this drama is actually...cringey? Like they would fall on each other’s lap, suddenly stumble upon a rock and hugged each other while playing basketball? I understand that this is a teenage drama, but I dont really think the director needs to add these kind of scenes. This is my honest opinion, and I totally understand with those who does not agree with me. After all, everyone has their own preferences. Peace out

What’s the point of all the Suho x Jugyeong backstory? If there had been some sort of teasing that Jugyeong felt some kind of romantic feeling for SeoJun, then it wouldn’t be too bad, but there’s been ZERO.
P.S. I hope Hwang In Yeop’s next drama he is the main man, he is such a good actor. He made me adore SeoJun.

But for someone like me who have watched dramas for more than 10 years it will be very disturbing. The scenario is very classic. 2 handsome boys, rich, one angry and don't care about the pretty girls who are interested with him and a bad boy who are interested with the poor and ugly (that's what they think) female lead. They will fight for the love of the girl and the mean guy will end up with the girl in the end. A very Lee Min Ho-esque drama which contains the usual formula as "today I'm very gentle and kind to you but because of a situation tomorrow I will reject you with the usual excuses like I'm not interested in you anymore, I don't like you bla bla. In the end those who will like this drama will be like I've said the newcomers and the fangirls who watch the drama because of the handsome boys. Again, I don't hate this drama and I want to watch it till the end but let's face the truth by a question : aren't korean scenarists tired of this concept ?

My favourite character so far is Lee Suho, as he's one of the character's with the most baggage. As a webtoon reader, it hurts my heart that he is going through way much more.. but, I hope they treat him better in the drama.
Im Jukyung is much more likable in the drama, as I grew quite annoyed of her in the webtoon. She's slowly growing and I love seeing that growth we were unable to see in the webtoon. It's amazing!

I thought the whole message in this show would be that you're beautiful with and without makeup and should embrace yourself but the show is almost done and I see no mention of that message whatsoever. Jugyung is low-key selfish bc she saw her friend Seojun in the hospital too but didn't even ask how he was feeling, she cared more about not being seen without makeup, Like Come On Who Cares Your Friend Got Hit By A Car! Also they did Seojun dirty compared to the webtoon, like how are you gonna wipe out his entire relationship with Jugyung??? Anyway at this point I realized Seojun deserves better than Jugyung bc she only cares about herself.

Reminds me of my younger days. My rating is 10! It is for the actors and actresses and the storyline. Never get bored to watch in TVn. Especially the drama scripts explanation about Im Ju Kyung and Seo Jun worried of "chingu of chingu's" :D)) Hopefully the story will ending with happiness to them all

Seojun had a chance with jukyung in the webtoon and actually date and there are literally no chances for him in this drama. Super cliché romcom where there are like a billion misunderstandings and female love trips accidentally falling on the male love or male love catching her. I'm only here for the 3 main actors that play suho seojun and jukyung. I wish the script writers stuck to the webtoon and actually made it different for once. I'm getting kinda tired of watching the same things happening in kdramas over and over again.

You have to just enjoy it for what it is. It's a generally light, funny, soft drama that you are not suppose to over analyze. Just take the eye rolling bits with a grain of salt and accept that you are most likely not going to be satisfied if you ship Ju Kyung with Seo Jun.

I mean I literally started watching true beauty because he was cast with Moon Ga Young. I'm a huge fan of Astro and Eun Woo is my ultimate bias and I loved all his characters in other dramas. But in this particular drama, "True Beauty" I personally don't really like the character 'Suho'... Even if the actors were changed and In yeop played Suho while Eun woo played SeoJun, I still won't like Suho's character. His relationship with Jukyung is the definition of toxic if y'all haven't noticed. I'm telling y'all, running out of the exam hall, in the middle of a competition is not cool at all. And for what? To spy on Jukyung during her date?? And when she went shopping with SeoJun, he left his house to stalk her again. I get that his childhood and his father are supposedly the reason for his behavior but do y'all really think what Suho needs right now is a girlfriend? He really should work on loving himself first. He doesn't need anyone to help him do that. So, saying he deserves Jukyung cos he's broken and needs to be loved is trash. SooJin is also broken and deserves to be loved but I don't see anyone defending her behavior. Besides, Jukyung is a person with a broken life too. She also deserves to be happy. We don't have any excuse for our behavior. Everything we do is a choice we make ourselves. My point is that, if Suho and Jukyung should be together, it should be because they are happy and comfortable with each other not because Suho needs someone to love him... Okay, bye.
5959 Jan 18 2021 2:12 am as someone who doesn't read the webtoon, i find the drama generally okay? i find it advantageous that i don't have prejudice on the casting. it's fun. sure it is cliché, but i watch to enjoy, laugh, sympathize, and be entertained. it is lighthearted so it somehow comforts me. believe it or not, some people look for feel-good dramas from time to time to... just.. feel good, you know? and sure, i guess it isn't the B E S T drama out there ? but i liked it nonetheless. just enjoy, and if you didn't: you are always free to stop watching and head on to your next drama~ :)

Even so, knowing that maybe I'm talking to early about, I wished that the kdrama follow the history of de webtoon cause I love that following history and I ship very much the couple on webtoon. It's just an opinion but I think if the series follow the path of the web. It would exist more feelings, drama and romance.

I don't want to be the annoying one comparing the Webtoon to this series version, but I just have to. I'm 28 & enjoy the Webtoon a lot, but unfortunately the drama is just not for me, I think it's just too lame/boring, focuses too much on making cute scenes & aims towards teenagers. I stopped watching after ep 3, came back later but didn't regret my decision.

Love the 4 main character so much! They all tried to look fine outside but inside they all are a mess, dealing with their own insecurities... Thats why they cant be honest with each other, they cant be honest with themselves tho. Cant wait for the last 6 episodes, i just want everyone to be happy at this time! :(

The show is definitely a lot different from the webtoon but since they keep taking bits and pieces from the webtoon but you never know how things will turn out.

Also, people call Suho boring and stuff, but idk about you all, but if I grew up the way he did, I would be too. He's actually showing much more happy faces now (ep 9) because he's feeling the warmth he never got.
Been always leaning on to Suho even though I dropped the webtoon, but I love both guys and I hope both get the happiness they deserve in the end. And if you're team Suho in the webtoon as well, at least we get crumbs here (even though some scenes are actually for Seo Jun).

However, I can't stop myself from watching, there's something alluring about it, and I don't know what it is. At first, I really disliked the characters, especially Seo Jun. Now, I'm only watching this drama for him. This man is on another level of attractiveness. I hate to say it, but this drama really grew on me like fungus. Also #TeamSeoJun but we know she's going to end up with the default lead guy for every webtoon-turned-drama.

Mun KaYong really versatile actress that can deliver the role smoothly and Cha Eun Woo already improved his acting recently. Yes, it's a bit cheesy at times. But ultimately the main characters are the same as they are in the webtoon. Jugyeong is quirky and kinda weird but still loveable and sympathetic, Suho is extremely attractive, cold, and a jerk at first but then he changes. And Seojun is a great singer, the bad boy, but still has a heart.
My biggest complaint is that Jugyeong is kind of annoying.
And yes, it can be cheesy. The editing style kind of reminds me of how What's Wrong with Secretary Kim was. The aegyo can be a bit over the top. Jugyeong's face without makeup looks fake and after watching a few episodes in a row I could barely tell the difference. This is understandable since the actress is actually pretty and they had to try and make her look "ugly"
The casting is close to perfect. Even down to members of Jugyeong's family and friends. Cha Eunwoo was a great choice as Suho, no complaints. People complain but go reread the webtoon, that's how Suho is at first. I am team Suho for a number of reasons. Suho loves Jugyeong for who she is, and he fell in love with her bare face. His love for her had nothing to do with her appearance, but he fell in love with her personality.
Hwang In Yeop as Seojun... When I first saw him I was surprised. He was a great choice. Side note, the actor has a great voice. I think Hwang In Yeop really captures Seojun well. I actually think I like him more in this than in the webtoon
Moon Ga Young... I think overall she does a great job. I do think they wrote Jugyeong a little more annoying than in the webtoon. For me at least I don't think the problem is Moon Ga Young as much as the way it's written. Overall I love her still.
I don't have a problem with any of the changes so far, I expected some artistic license to be taken when they adapted it.
Is the webtoon better? Yes. It is. The webtoon has beautiful art and a story that is engaging from the beginning until now.
I am now, and will always be, team Suho. Lee Suho is a man who is close to perfect. However, this drama for me is harder to choose between them than in the webtoon. In the webtoon I was always team Suho but got very annoyed with Seojun for several things he did, starting mainly with him blaming Seyeon's death all on Suho, and the nail in the coffin was when he was dating Jugyeong and got so possessive of her that he got mad at Suho for even being around her and keeping her from walking into the men's restroom when she was drunk. I just never really liked him. But in the drama I like him a lot more than the webtoon, which might have to do with the actor. (Great job Hwang In Yeop).
Overall, I love this drama. I have a few problems with it but nothing that makes me think about not finishing. Can't wait to see how it ends. #TeamSuho

But I must say that in the last episode I absolutely didn't like how they handled it. I don't know if they will show it later, but before Jugyeong reveals her feelings, a lot of things happen ... SPOILER ... First of all, even if they have misunderstandings at the beginning, Seojun and Suho never get to fight for Jugyeong in high school (except when by now, after about two years, Seojun and Jugyeong are dating and Seojun becomes jealous when Suho reappears and he grabs Suho by the collar but he's quick to repent). Then in the webtoon Seojun and Suho resume their friendship after Suho goes to the hospital because he got hit by a car to save Jugyeong. And that's even before Jugyeong reveals her feelings for Suho to both Suho himself and Seojun. Then I don't like how in the drama Jugyeong treats Seojun at times ... In the webtoon, except at the beginning when she misunderstands him, then she realizes soon how good Seojun is and they immediately become super friends, they go out together, they go out to eat and shopping, always as best friends at the beginning. So passing over their love relationship which I've read that will not be shown in the drama (unfortunately), I hope that at least their friendship is shown well, because it's beautiful and important. Oh well, we'll see... P. S. In my opinion all actors are very good, but I have a weakness for Hwang In Yeop, he is really very good and charismatic and also handsome?.

Just ignore those haters! and appreciating to other people's work, from the beginning it was told that the drama will be different from the webtoon so you just enjoy the plot. Don't make the casts depressed because of your hate comments guys! I hope this drama continues to be more entertaining, I really like it Once again I will still support Jukyung and Suho until the end❤️ I think that Seojun also suits Soojin, I hope they date like Jukyung and Suho.

I love the comedic moments, the actors and actresses have great chemistry with each other, and it' s so amazing how the characters from minor to main have important roles to play like, every character makes this series just as beautiful and fun to watch. I have watched varieties of kdramas for 7 yrs now there are lots of amazing ones out there but these one sticks out in a good and warm kinda way. Thank you to the staff, actors and actresses of this series who made my quarantine life worthwhile.

Btw if i need to address a problem, i would address suho’s attitude. I’m kinda disturbed with Suho being overly ‘obsessed’ with Jugyeong. Whenever he knows where Jugyeong is, he’ll right away go there to see her (even when He Has An Exam???) And when she’s with seojun, suho will always try to meddle and start an unnecessary fight with seojun.
And not to say that he stares at Jugyeong in such an obvious way????? Yes i know that those are meant to be sweet and lovely, but it still creeps me out. It makes suho look as someone who is obsessive and wants to own everything he desires.
Overall, it is still a good drama. Hoping for more character developments with the actors and actresses!

His character is so vivid he really cares not only about Jugyeong but his sister, family, and friends. Although we haven’t seen much Seojun and Suho moments talking about there past or how to become friends I think they still care for each other! One thing I didn’t like was *Spoiler* When Seojun and Suho started fighting, like why fight for a girl seriously:/ instead of fixing their friendship. And one thing that I really liked was Seojun said “Don’t you care about Im Jugyeong’s feelings” like exactly she isn’t an object. Sorry. And its okay to have feelings its not our fault to fall in love with someone right?? Both of them have lonely character, sad, but Suho is just bland. Anyways hopefully both have a nice happy ending.

They made seojun here a dork who loves his mom and friends. I do not find any bad thing about him. His character here may not be cool compared to the webtoon, but i like seojun character. It makes you root for him too. I am team suho now because at least suho knows what she really looks like but if seojun will know what she really looks like and he still likes her, i will root for both suho and seojun. i love the webtoon, i love the drama too.
the characters in the drama act lively and the story is relatable. but, the changes make me upset. they did seojun dirty, seojun webtoon version didn't talk much and acts cool but in drama they turned him into bad boy. soojin is not smart in webtoon version, she thinks more abt body. jukyung isn't the transferee, it's suho. they change every first meeting of jukyung and males. suho and jukyung met first in prince comic, seojun and jukyung met first at fast food restaurant or karoeke. and last but not least, jukyung makeup learning time did so fast like less than a month. in webtoon version, she learned it while winter breaks.
and yeah, i love the drama and humor thingy there. and i love how they showed us more jukyung family relationship. that's all, xoxo

When I read the webtoon version of True Beauty, I just feel the drama version is even better than the webtoon version. In the webtoon version, there are many episodes or scenes which I considered as lame or boring... but the drama version is full with messages that make you think about life (the suicide, the bully, internal beauty, beauty standard and many more...) I love all the three main characters but would prefer Jugyeong to be with Su Ho rather than Seojun (based on the drama version on how they portray each character). Please I hope the drama script writer and director to craft something different and adding more substance to the drama rather than than simply following the webtoon version of storyline. In the webtoon version, Jugyeong character is rather weak and kind of pathetic but in the drama version, she is portrayed as someone with more strength and kind-hearted women who would overcome obstacles.

Why would a director make a kdrama as a complete or basically a complete copy of the webtoon. The director at least made the point of the webtoon and had some parts added from the webtoon in the kdrama. The kdrama version has a lot of amazing scenes. If you would keep an open mind I think you would grow to love the kdrama better.

The webtoon keeps on straying away from the original storyline by adding useless new characters and grazes over important subjects such as suicide. One scene that really touched me in the drama was that convo at the rooftop where Suho says "you can't do anything for a dead person, so stay alive". I have to admit that there are a few things missing from Seojun's character, but I believe they'll make it up to him as the drama progresses. I also love to see what they did with Soojin, she is so loveable here, I hope it stays that way even with the love triangle... Can't wait to watch the next episodes :)

I'm kinda disappointed that they changed little but important details in the webtoon.. like how Suho and Jugyeong first met. I hate that rooftop scene to be honest. They even robbed Seojun of his webtoon scenes. I'm sad sad sad. They painted him as a bad, warfreak character when in fact he's the most warm hearted person there ever is. :(
All that's really saving this drama are the actors. They are really like the living characters of the drama. I'm starting to love Moon Ga Young. She's such a natural in comedy. I love her beauty and the way she acts. She's so good!!! I'll be for sure try to watch her past works. And Eun Woo and Hwang In Yeop are such an eye-candy. I love Hwang In Yeop! I watched 18 again before bec he was announced as Seojun! He's also a good actor and can't wait for hos future projects. :((

Seo jun character in this drama is faraway from that cool handsome guy from webtoon who is attractive mysterious boy, whom is cool, a little dangerous but full of love to his sister, friend and everyone he loves. the webtoon writer trying to describe him as a perfect man but has a deep hearbroken after his best friend died when the script writer ruin everything..in their way. It is terrible live action.
Seo joon in this drama is a shamless fool childish boy who is not even cool but an insect for his surrounding. The cast face is also ordinary, he is not that handsome like seo joon.. we imagine. I am so disaapointed.
Give justice to seo joon..bring back the real plot.

But then I finish the rest episodes from 2 to 6 just this Dec. 26 at 9 pm to 4 am. Almost 5 am, I think. Hahaha! I never thought I could finish watching it, and I didn't fall asleep. The story is more both amazing at exciting. I love the kdrama more than the webtoon version. I don't know, but I think the story in the kdrama is close to reality more than on the story in webtoon. And you can feel the chemistry they had and how they are into their characters. I love this really! I will always watch this even if it reaches its end. Ahhh! I'm going to watch to this w/ my sis!

I barely even finished the first ep, yet I was not even considering watching the next eps. Jugyeong was not suicidal, she didn't made a huge fuss abt the cafeteria guy that rejected him, suho was that transferee not jugyeong, soojin was the sexy type and not the brainy type, and sooooo many other details that were questionable.
This drama might be good if you dont have a background on the plot. However, as a webtoon reader, I was really disappointed

Seojun Okie Dokie Yo Dec 26 2020 1:13 am First of all from my opinion towards this Kdrama so far so good..i've watching from the first ep and it really satisfying to watch especially with your family..the storyline pretty catchy as well plus everything look so asthetic ..full of bright color and so lovely ...the actor potray the character really good from what i can see ..they do try hard in order to make it seem real.. of course there always gonna have some this and that in making the kdrama ..but for myself personal ..i really really enjoy to watch n so eager for the next ep ..just i have to wait a week for next ep and it only 2 ep for a week...so frust to wait ..but i will gonna watch it no matter how long it take..this True Beauty kdrama also inspire me a lot n make me cry cuz Im Jugyeong character do resemble me in my past (intovert who gets bully from the mean girl) ...The Cast really make a good chemistry toward each other... really love Suho at they beginning then falls for Seojun ...btw hwaitingg true beauty ..im jugyeong beauty both inside n outside, lee suho not cold hearted , han seojun aint bad guy ...they all stuck in the situation where the society treat them bad and make be another person who they are not ... I think that the female lead is doing pretty well at pulling off both "personas" and it does seem believable. I don't find her annoying as opposed to what I was expecting. It's true that it is filled with really really cheesy and corny stuff but the drama is actually really hilarious to watch. And of course, the male leads are out of this world handsome. I'm enjoying it so far. I love the aesthetics used in the drama as well.

Seojun fault for misunderstanding thing towards Suho really what humanize his character and makes him so relatable. That's exactly what makes him so compelling, his character development! And Hwang In-Yeop did it satisfyingly! (Sadly, the way Suho being portrays is almost too perfect, that makes him less interesting)
(Anyway, we can't be so sure Seojun purely picking Jukyung just too provoke Suho, he did said he might be like her (and he really do fall for her after that, lol)).
Then again, it seems Jukyung and Suho is the endgame, so let's just keep cheering and ship Seojun with his happiness (Kim Chorong and the gang all the way!!) (Though there's still 10 episodes, who knows, anything can happen (?))

I know for a fact that they'll be modifying some scenes and even some characters' personalities. I was just extremely disappointed with their attempt of trying to antagonize Seojun's character here which is just a major bruh moment for me as well as the robbing him of some scenes.
At least they got the Seojun being a loving and sweet son and big brother to his mother and sister, respectively, right - that I am happy about.
And the only changes they made which I approve of are that of Seojun being hella funny Lmao and Soojin being the total queen and badass that she is. Love that they made her be besties with Jugyeong too!

Dear Mr/Ms Euwoo's stylist, what is up with his clothes? Its not that there is anything wrong with being fat, but his attire looks like he gained so much weight. He does not look like a high schooler anymore, he looks matured. AND what is up with his attire during the basketball scene in ep5 (he wears too much stuff). His look in my id is gangnam is much more appropriate. Simple is better.

no name Dec 23 2020 10:05 pm I don't like how the drama is trying to sabotage Seojun's character. Especially with the latest episode, E05. It's so infuriating especially when you are aware of the character's personality in the webtoon.
Seojun sure does blame Suho for what happened to their friend but he isn't guilt-tripping him or anything like that. And the way the drama painted him as if he is treating Jugyeong as a game to get back or rile up Suho ain't it either. In fact, in the first few episodes of the webtoon, he keeps his distance from them as much as possible. It just so happens that he keeps crossing paths with Jugyeong and naturally falls in love with her. AND more importantly, he was in fact didn't even make a move when he realized that Suho and Jugyeong share the same feelings with each other and instead are actually very supportive of them and trying to get them together. HE ISN'T A BAD GUY. He's actually very sweet and passionate.
Also, I hate how the drama robbed Seojun of some of his scenes in the webtoon. TVN is just Seojunphobic when Seojun best boy TT TT

The moment i know there’ll be a drama of the webtoon, i was so excited to know the ending since the webtoon is still ongoing. But i have to admit the drama is pretty different than the webtoon. Maybe because they need to cramp all the storyline in 16 episodes (webtoon currently has 138 episodes), the flow of the drama is quite rushed and somehow too much comedy scenes.
But nevertheless, the actors and actresses are really good! And seojun? Argh i love him in both webtoon and in drama.
My prediction is the drama writer will make the drama has a loose ending (since the webtoon hasn’t ended yet) or she will make Jugyeong ends up with Suho.

This drama is totally a stress reliever for me. Each episode is memorable, cute & full of excitement. I even watched them repeatedly cause they're enjoyable to watch :)) The casts are perfect with great plot, chemistry & cinematography. Hopefully this drama keep up the good momentum till the last ep. Directing and production are so good as well, I love the creativity, it really feels like a webtoon with its production. I love it so much, it's a good stress reliever when I get to watch it on Thursdays and Fridays. If you haven't watched it, try it out for real. It's a good break especially when you're in uni.
Anyways, remember that yes, true beauty is not one's visuals, but one's heart. It's hard to accept it when society thinks otherwise. So please surround yourselves with good people!! I'm still trying to love myself as I am honestly much "worse" than Ju Kyung but I'll get there!

But I hope they won't end the drama with the webtoon's season 1 where they were still 19-year-old high school students. I hope they continue the drama until their future career. (In my mind, I'm imagining Jukyeong as a makeup artist for celebrities, Seojun as an idol, and Suho as a CEO of a talent agency.) Because the webtoon is still on-going too, I have no idea of how this drama would end.
Anyway, I don't get why they had to make Soojin a friend of Jukyeong's. I know that dramas don't usually follow the plot of the webtoon but... I thought that they wouldn't change the characters at least. But well, since they made her a 'friend,' it gets more intriguing because so many scenes were changed, making me look forward to the next episodes.
I'm just hoping that the whole drama won't have a huge difference from the webtoon's plot. Because to be really honest, I feel like what I'm watching is far different from what I've read and imagined. Nevertheless, since the drama is still on-going, I won't be too quick to judge and will still be watching this to support the casts. (I'm a big fan of all of the leads!)

Ga Young portrayed Jubal pretty good. Eunwoo is a but off 9/10 and Seojun is 8/10. Idk, but the plot of this drama version doesn't correspond the wt ver. HANN Dec 17 2020 1:12 am ep 3 was actually much better, despite some overly dramatic scenes that make me cringe... but i skipped them anyway. i know they're for comedy purposes but they still ain't my cup of tea. no biggie, just a matter of taste and i prefer these dramatic scenes to happen on anime instead of literal live-action drama... however, it definitely got more fun to watch than the first 2 episodes. eunwoo's acting is A+++ and so is inhyeop. both actors did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. however, moon gayoung... what's with her? T_T i mean her acting is great especially in that *SPOILER ALERT* crying under the rain scene... she nailed it. but i really can't stand her high pitched voice. girlie really needs to tone it down. she literally sounds like a dying rat and it's a huge turnoff to me. idk if people are supposed to find it cute coz i'd be lying if i said i did...
anyways, i'll be waiting for ep 4 tonight. hoping it gets better and better until the end, and of course, not too dragging like the original webtoon lol

But what confuses me is that it says there’s 16 episodes but the webtoon series isn’t done yet so i don’t know if their gonna make their own ending or (SPOILER ALERT FROM HERE ON YOU’VE BEEN WARNED) if there just gonna say it’s the end of season 1 and the ending would be suho leaving to japan or something but yeah it’s a really great series and i’m so glad it’s a television series now too

martha Dec 15 2020 9:01 am @Toderdacie suho actually saved the lead girl and likes her for her with no make up which was a smart move from the writer and he just ignores her with make up(hasnt treated her bad,the second male lead is cold too n hasnt been sweet either)............from the first two episode the male n female have more dynamics n things in common like its almost telling us that they are it..the second lead had like 20 minutes of screen time n barely any long interaction with the female lead or showed any romantic care/feelings....i think people who wants the 2nd lead its coming from how they feel from the webtoon but if u havent read it suho and the lead gal make sense from these episode build up n interaction.

Kang Mirae knows where she stands in life and her decisions.. she's a fake beauty but not a pretender. She's with a lots of insecurities because she's bullied all her life ('ugly' is define by facial structure, not particularly shown in the drama because everyone has a different pov regarding 'ugly' also different from webtoon) but with a kind heart that makes her lovable & stands out.
Lim JuHyung, on the other hand, is a pretender-manipulator [at least in terms of beauty standards] but is lovable once you get to know her ('ugly' is define by having lots of pimple & monolid; honestly Moon GaYoung is way pretty, I think she has more makeup in her 'ugly' face than her 'pretty' face)
Nevertheless, it's all good.. I'm liking how it's very different.. I wonder how Selena would make her entrance.. or will she even be you know who haha

I loved how the web-toon effect was being injected each scene. The twists was commendable, ju kyung's transition from being "a puppet/laughing stock" to a "popular beauty/angel face" was awesome. This shows how teenage of today blends or do the mimicry strategy to be able to cope up to the demand of being one of the many or being included in a group. The male lead Suho shows a hideous yet bold embodiment of a strong yet soft kind of persona, I am looking forward on how his character evolves. Furthermore, True Beauty is a fresh drama not only for teenagers but also for everyone who can relate with the characters. This is such a massive story after "My I.D is Gangnam Beauty", it'll surely uplift viewers to embrace and love their ownself as much as they can. And to love the True Beauty that is inside our hearts. Really looking forward to its upcoming episodes ?

I’m sure there are a lot of differences, and if it’s anything like the books-to-movie pieces I’ve read/seen, then I’ll probably prefer the webtoon, but I still enjoy seeing how others perceive the characters and story line, and how they may reinvision some of the scenarios between the characters. Since it’s a Kdrama, there is no doubt that they will play up the love triangle. I wonder if the boys’ moms will have more of a role, since that’s a running trope. I wonder if they will keep some of the more humourous parts, or if they’ll focus solely on the heaviness and drama. I wonder if the makeup transformation will come off as drastically as it did in the webtoon, especially since that is so critical to the plot initially, or if it will get downplayed for tv. Looking forward to it!

If you've read the webtoon, i think moon ga young's acting is not that far off? I think what ticked me off more was the excessive bullying scenes in the first episode. She ended up becoming a somewhat awkward character because of some (sorta) bad writing :((
For the drama itself, i think they focused too much on the comedic highlights of the story that it ends up a bit cringy.
Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes (aside from the bullying crap which i really hate).

Gayoung was abit cute tho but also a bit cringey. And don't get me wrong eunwoo's acting is stiff af like omg. Ik that's the character in the webtoon and all but i don't see any improvement from that drama my id is gangnam beauty. Its literally like the same character but with different names. Maybe still comparable tho. I guess i have to watch the later eps to see if his acting really improved. I have never read the webtoon so i don't know about the plot. Plot seems fine to me, very basic like any kdrama. I like in yeop here tho. His character seems bad and all but he is quite cute and soft. I really hope to see more of yoona. Hopefully her character dosen't end up like won in jae's from start up with little development and screen time. I really want to know more of her character. Its onlyp ep 2 but i will continue watching to see how it goes

And also I didn't feel any chemistry b/w the leads yet, but nevertheless I watch this till the end because i love kayoung and eunwoo. But i really hope it gets better
dd Dec 10 2020 2:42 pm I sure hope everyone complaining about Suho's personality in the drama realize that he's exactly the same in the webtoon, at the beginning he's cold and even described as a "psychopath" and I think that Eunwoo did a good job portraying that even though its just the first episode. this is coming from someone who isn't particularly a fan of his prior acting works but I definitely think he has improved.

I don't know if they made the scenes exaggerated to get high ratings but if to annoy the viewers, it succeeded, indeed. Nevertheless, I liked the two leads so I am going to stick for a while and see how the story goes. I really wish it will get less shallow and the characters will develop.

Jugyeong: 7/10 Good actress but I don't really feel the Jugyeong vibes from her in this drama. Maybe it's the looks? Webtoon's Jugyeong has a V-shaped face and overall a soft and calmer facial expression, while drama's Jugyeong has a square-shaped face and overall sharper look. So it was kinda hard to imagine her as the Jugyeong I love.
Suho: 10/10 Perfect casting! The actor's face really resembled the webtoon's face. Gives off that cold and icy Suho vibe too.
Seojoon: Couldn't tell yet but for now I'm giving it 10/10 judging from the trailers (same reason as Suho above)
Soojin: 5/10 Webtoon's Soojin is bitchy, has a fake personality, and gives off a sense of grandeur. She looks mature too. Drama's Soojin was the complete opposite. I find myself paying more attention to Soo-A, although Soojin is supposed to be someone who catches your attention more than any other people in the room.

I've never watched MGY's other dramas so I don't know if that's her real voice, but if that's not her real voice, it's annoying to hear.
Some people had low expectations since they said the director's previous dramas were just ok, and I can see why now. Anyway, I'll give it a try again tomorrow when ep 2 comes out. Perhaps it's still to early to judge, but so far I'm not loving it as much as the webtoon.

1- When you adapt a story, you don't need to copy paste from the comic. People need to understand that. If you want to see the comic, go and read the webtoon. This is another media and it needs to be adapted.
2- For an adaptation, this is going the right way. They are grabbing some scenes and turning them better, the story seems more intense and the plot more structured and smart. They even iniciated Suho's backstory from the beginning and gave us foreshadowing of his troubles.
3- The way the main characters connect is also very well done, and from the beginning the plot smartly connects dots so that when Suho appears at the bookshop webtoon original scene, it's not from "nowhere".
4- I can't imagine how someone thinks this was poorly done in a time like ours, when suicide, depression, bullying and low self esteem are such major society problems. For those who think the staff did overthink about this issues in this drama, I want to remind you that those issues are always present in the original work. But in here they are detailed and have more substance and mass to work on in the future.
Great by now ? and think before you write, think while you watch.

dduddu Dec 10 2020 2:15 am i was excited when they announced the lineup and couldn't wait for this drama to air but now that it did... the first ep was disappointing. in fact, it was too slow and boring af. i feel like they could've done better. what put me off was both eunwoo's and gayoung's acting. most of their scenes were cringe as hell, couldn't stand to watch them without cringing. what the hell was wrong with gayoung...? she's usually good. seeing her acting in here brought me back to the nightmare that was exo's next door (her acting there was just as bad as everyone in the whole drama). but eunwoo was worse. he was stiff af. awkward. unnatural. as if it was his first time acting, only he was acting for a yearly school drama where everyone looks awkward or smt. yes, i know it's probably due to his character but come on i know he could do better. he did pretty well in my id is a gangnam beauty and both characters literally are no different :( i skipped lots of parts in ep 1... anyway, i'm still giving this drama another chance, though, since i haven't seen inyeop's performance yet. i hope he'll do good, like how he was in 18 again. if his acting turned out just as bad as the other two... god damn i might have to drop this drama fr. it had lots of potentials, esp it took the slot replacing "tale of the nine tailed", which was really good. it could be as popular as the webtoon!! please don't ruin it... hoping ep 2 will be good and manage to draw my attention back to watch this drama with anticipation. all the best to the casts. do your best for your viewers

ThatPlotTwist Nov 05 2020 2:29 am @KaoRu I only read the first few chapters of the webtoon this was based on and the teaser captured the "ugly" face of the FL quite well. Sadly, that includes the glasses. Even in the webtoon her face isn't that ugly imo, just an average looking girl with acne problems. So it's really more of insecurity. The webtoon emphasized more how different her bare face is from her make up that people don't even realize they are the same person. Check Hwasa from Mamamoo as she's a great example of that (not saying Hwasa is ugly, i love MMM, but you always see her with make up that she looks fierce and mature that when you see her barefaced and baby faced you can't help double check if she's really THE Hwasa).

Naria Oct 25 2020 3:05 am Ahh the highly anticipated teen highschool drama of 2020 is almost here. I loved Moon Ga Young in Mimi, EXO Next Door & Tempted. She's so pretty and charasmatic. I love Eunwoo as not only an idol, but in The Best Hit & Rookie Historian Goo Hae Young. In Yeop has captured my attention in 18 Again. It's safe to say I'm mainly intrigued about this drama due to the cast rather than the actual plot.
The synopsis feels, idk, overdone? We've seen it so many times before and it probably won't stop being a common theme in webtoons/live actions/dramas. The whole "ugly girl gets pretty", or "girl who may seem like so and so is actually this". I'm low key tired of seeing love triangles. Does it hurt to have ONE love interest rather than two boys fighting for a girl's heart? Anyway before I continue ranting I'll finish by saying that I'm conflicted with whether or not I should give this a shot. If I get desperate then I'll watch it seriously from beginning to end but I think I'll just watch clips here and there on Youtube.

True beauty fanatic Oct 23 2020 1:48 am OMG!! I knew that the drama would suit Moon Ga Young better. I love her and Jisoo but Jukyeong is a bit playful in personality, based on the webtoon, and I don't think it would suit Jisoo's princess-like Aura.
Anyway, I love them both as well as the male cast selected. I cannot wait to watch it!!!

Well I was actually dreaming that jisoo and vinii will take Jugyeong and Seojoon role but I think mun ka-young will be a great fit, haven’t watched hwang in yeop so i kinda look forward to that.. Seojoon will always be my choice for Jugyeong in the webtoon but I think I’ll go for Suho in this drama..

Personally, I think that Yeonwoo (former member of momoland) is a good fit for the role of jukyeong. She is tall and slender like the character in the comics, and has rookie acting experience. I feel like she could pull of the whole vibe of jukyeong.
