Plot
One afternoon when there was a very heavy snowstorm, Hana, (18, 11th grade in high school) was sitting on the 2nd floor restaurant where one can see the airport runway from a distance.
It was the day that her mother was coming back with her new husband from Korea. Hana, who was waiting in the airport, saw a snowman that someone had made. It was a snowman that was in the midst of all the snow that fell around it… Hana went to the 1st floor and there was her mother with her new father. Hana greeted him, and then turned her gaze to the snowman outside. At that moment, her new father called someone over. The guy turned around to see her. Her mother introduced him to her as her new brother. Yoon-seo… The moment she saw his empty stare with snow all around his body, her heart began to beat fast. Her warm breath blew out of her mouth in a white mist.

Azi Dec 18 2024 6:37 am I have watched Tree of Heaven first when I was in elementary and I loved it so much that I've been rewatching it from a disc and after a few years I figured out that the two stars from it that I really loved has their own drama and I freaking loved it so much except that the emotions are too heavy for me and there are times that I'm having a secondhand embarrassment on some scenes but I still love it all in all. I could've sworn that finally, I can have the happy ending that Stairway to Heaven wasn't able to give me but I was wrong!!! They hurt me all over again! I've been rewatching this Tree of Life for many years but for some reason I kept on forgetting that one of them died and when I get to the ending I am hurt again. But dude, whenever I watch a drama I can easily point out a poor acting and unrealistic reactions or some sort but this....damn it looks realll. It's like a real scenario where like I am a creepy person beside them watching them and they can't see me. I don't know what I'm saying.....ahhhhh this drama is driving me nuts.

Though I hate the sad ending but I love the way Lee Wan cares with Shin Hye.. Sad to know Lee Wan already married. I was hoping for them to have another drama..

Lee Wan... maybe its not his luck even though he is very talented....
i've watched this drama long time ago...and it still linger in my mind until now...today i'm watching this again !!!

Fama Jan 13 2020 4:12 am This....drama. I have never been so touched by a drama before. Seriously. This show pierced my heart. It's not just the story. It's the way the actors brought the characters to life. I'm a huge fan of Park Shin Hye but the way she acted in this particular role, with a sort of abandon, as if she truly was Hana, had me spellbound. This was my first experience watching a drama with Lee Wan in it. And I was blown away by his acting. His intensity. It's not easy portraying an autistic person but he nailed it with his performance. I was disappointed to learn that he hasn't appeared in more dramas. But, and there's always a but, I felt like this drama was a little too sad. A little too heavy. Why on earth did it have to end that way? Why couldn't both of them atleast married before one of them died? Why was it necessary for hana to marry ryu when yoon suh knew she didn't love ryu. That's what gets me to be honest. That till the very end they were never truly together. They never truly confessed to each other and became a couple. It should have been their wedding and not ryu and hana's. At least that way us viewers would have been satisfied that they were together. But they weren't. I think yoon suh never believed that hana loved him till the moment he died. That just kills me. They never really said I love to each other at the same time. Why couldn't w.at least get some acknowledgement of that? Why couldn't they have married at least? It was in the writer's hands wasn't it? The writer could have changed the storyline a little to make it just a little happy. I don't know if this comment will be seen by anyone in the kdrama industry but I sincerely hope there's a season 2 or a similar show with the same actors and they give them a happy ending. Infact, why not cast lee wan and park shin hye in another show? People think that PSH had incredible chemistry with lee min ho, then there are those who say she had amazing chemistry with lee jong suk, or kim rae won, or hyun bin. I personally thought her chemistry with lee minho was terrific. (I've watched heirs, pinocchio, doctors and I preferred her chemistry with lee minho) But then years later, I watched tree of heaven. And I've realized that her chemistry in all other shows pales in comparison. The two of them share something that I've not seen in any of PSH dramas. There was something honest and sincere about their performances. That spark was entirely something else. They seriously need to cast these two terrific actors again (on a side note, PSH in doctors is what I believe hana became after having yoon suh's heart :P a kickass thug lol dont hurt me). Seriously, I petition the Korean industry to use the chemistry these actors had. You'll get another classic hit. But give us a happy ending please.
ICriedARiverWatchingThis Jan 30 2019 6:32 am I watched this again for the first time in years... and I'm balling my eyes out. I cried so much. Don't know how I still have tears left to cry. I was trying so hard not to sob but I couldn't help it. The ending... gosh... I CRIED SO MANY TEARS.. Lee Wan was amazing in here. I wish he starred in bigger dramas! He deserves so much more recognition. Their chemistry was superb. The storyline amazing. It was really heavy. OST is amazing, but I don't think I'll be able to listen to it for a while without crying. It's just too sad. Amazing drama. I'll come back and watch it again in a few years. I need some time to heal before I watch it again. XD
Lee Wan was hot as a mafia boss though amirite?! When he cut his hair I was like whoa! I barely recognized him. His crew was so cute helping him set up all the balloons and lights and romantic things for their dates. I crushed a little bit on his right hand man, the guy he was closest to. Haha. He was so sweet. They were all so sweet! I'm gonna miss watching them so much!
[SPOILER AHEAD] @Marj Yoon Suh gave his heart to Hana. She needed a heart transplant because her heart was giving up on her after the car accident. She didn't know about it until she recovered when Ryu told her. She even said that her heart felt like her own... oh my gosh.. tears are coming... the way she cried though. Man I felt that in my heart. I have never physically hurt this much while watching a drama. Yoon Suh said that now they'll always be together because she has a part of him now. He promised her that he'll always be beside her, forever and he kept that promise, literally.. sometimes I wonder if he made the right decision but he did what made him happy. And saving Hana was what made him happy but now she has to live with it. I don't think she'll ever find a love like that again. I should stop now. Haha. I'm just ranting now. Thank you for reading though. I just have a lot of feelings right now.
marj Aug 16 2018 8:29 pm Im done watching now one of the most beautiful korean drama its really melt my heart...although ive watching it with thai subtilled and korean and japanese audio..how sad i dont understand..but i've got it all base on thier action. I tried my best to find with english subtitlle but deleted all. I cant get over for the last episode....can anyone can tell me hows yoon soo? Is he died? Why hana cried and she looks really sad.??

I have watched the drama in 2017. Both shin hye and lee wan must do another drama again. I love them loads. The ending is heart-breaking... its too sad?

I hope that in the future the leads will act again together. Why do i felt like they were meant to be together for real? Waaahhhh the ending part breaks my heart why did things turn out like that?!!! So sad. If only Hana confess her love for Yoon suh oppa earlier. Why?! Why?! Why?!
lydia May 04 2016 9:21 pm i never cry to a drama but this one i can control my emotion. The love story and Hana's life is so sad, its very realistic that you can't tell its a drama probably that's why i cry.

After watching it, I also fell in love with Lee Wan......his eyes.....like a magnet.....the passion between these 2 main lead roles was described beautifully.....I also cried...and cried....oh....I only wished that they could be together....
Watched it 10 x already...and keep on crying.....GREAT DRAMA ever.....

This is the first kdrama by PSY that i cried non stop my eyes are swollen..great actor and actresses love it very much!! I cannot believe that im so heart broken in this drama it had me crying all the way through the end...never knew this drama can make me cry so much...i just love it love all the way through!! They can just make season2 of this drama!! Its a very touching and emotional drama!!

He is simply amassing. The two of them together are outstanding, I lived the whole drama like I was part of them, my heart was broken and I was not able to stop my tears. I bow down tho the writer. GREAT !!!!

I hope Lee Wan and Park Shin Hye will make another drama together. Do they ever get in touch after their drama? They might be good as real partners in life since they both like sports.I have watched all PSH shows and so far her best partner is Lee Wan. Please make another drama or movie together.

Fallen in love with this drama since the first episode and i have been watching this thing for hours .. and i couldn't have fallen deeper in love more than how i have fallen for Yoon Seo ( Lee Wan ) . I didn't know about him before but now i want to watch every drama he's in . But this drama really has topped my list . Every second was very touching . I usually don't cry even when i watch super sad dramas .. but this one just touches my heart and i don't think i will be able to move on from this drama ㅠㅠ

Lee Wan was exceptional, Park Shin-Hye cried almost as much as I did -- almost every episode and heavily. Worth watching every minute because it has a unique story line and the romance is credible. I ended up feeling - "that's what love is" if it needed a definition. WATCH
Cath Jun 09 2015 10:35 am Lookin' for a drama that made your heart flutter every minute? This is it! Lee Wan has the warmest heart in any Korean dramas I've seen so far. Park Shin Hye, as always she captivates every human heart and soul. She's such an amazing actress. Though I'm not a big fan of her yet but I've learned to appreciate her works.
kdramafan May 17 2015 10:15 pm I'm a huge Kdrama fan and I thought I had seen all of the best love stories,..until I came upon this drama purely by accident. The cast, the script, the acting, the chemistry, the emotion and intensity it's off the charts. I would say this has topped my list. I would venture to say that it has the level of and depth of love and emotion that is in a classic like Romeo and Juliet. I didn't know about Lee Wan. He is a very gifted actor. I hope to see him in new dramas. He has some very magnetic qualities about him. I'll be looking for more work from him.

And may die without reaching second base. I do not want the expectations, but these Korean Turkish delight I sat down. Give a little movement to them their heroes. True, a little closed and conservative, but everywhere the same. The only drama where deeply touched me was the Tree to Heaven and it was not entirely Korean, but if you have to compare with other Korean productions are the best of Asian cinema (with few exceptions est.)

I am just shaking after seeing that immense feeling of her toward her brother, their bond seems so special that i cannot explain it in mere words.. After watching episode 1, i was so into it that i couldn't do anything but to continue watching. Those funny moments were very cute and extraordinary when they were together happy and having fun. The moment he spoke to her for the first time it was very touching scene. Looking at Hana, she looks so pure and innocent... No doubt Shin Hye was perfect for such role. Same goes for Lee Wan.
Before watching this drama, make sure to have a box full of tissue with you. I will only recommend this to those with strong hearts.She looks exceptionally cute, pure, adorable and innocent that i can't stop looking at her. Her love and care for Yoon Suh felt like he was in every drop of her blood. I am totally amazed by such sacrifice and devotion toward the one they love. This is the true definition of loving someone.
WARNING:- Don't read further if you have yet to watch this drama:- Holy shit... What do i say about the last episode... It felt as my soul has been broken. That last scene made my cry. This drama was PERFECT. Even though the ending is sad, but i feel at ease, even though they couldn't be together, he is still with her, he protected her until the end. I must salute the scriptwriter. I was avoiding this drama for a very long time due to the ending, but i thought i should give it a try and all can say is this truly is a MASTERPIECE. You will regret your whole life if you deny watching this. The story, character emotions, the casts.... All are outstanding... I have never seen anything close to it so far.
It exceeded my expectations in every way.
I will give it 10/10 (SUPERIOR CASTING BY Park Shin-Hye, she just became my favorite actress. BEST STORY, BEST OST, BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY, BEST DIRECTION)

But i think, I'm not going to watch it because as the comment say's it is not a happy ending. And i really hate love story that is sad at the end. The love story of myself is really sad ending that is why i don't think i can watch a sad love story ending. But it seems this drama is great even I'm not watching it, its great because of Shin Hye.

They acting specially Lee Wan and Park Shin Hye very great and they can speak Japanese language also, that is awesome!
