Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki Staff ©

Set during the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty period, envoys lose the Emperor's Royal Seal to a giant whale. Jang Sa-Jung (Kim Nam-Gil) leads a group of bandits and he attempts to retrieve the seal. Jang Sa-Jung and his group then run into a group of pirates led by Yeo-Wol (Son Ye-Jin).

Notes

  1. Filming began August 15, 2013 on Cheongwan Mountain, which is located in Jangheung, South Jeolla Province, South Korea.
  2. Filming finished January 9, 2014 in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The last scene filmed involves Jang Sa-Jung (Kim Nam-Gil) and Yeo-Wol (Son Ye-Jin) isolated on an island, finding a lost pirate ship.
  3. During the Film market at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, movie "The Pirates" sold to 15 countries including USA, Japan, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands.

Commend to the director, writers and all who made this possible! Definitely worth the watch! If this was released on 2022 I believe this would also get more viewership and spiked ratings✨

MolangKorea Feb 13 2017 2:44 am Just by reading this article and see Chul-Bong face, I laughed so hard ~ remember how he tried to explain how big the killer whale was to his bandits gang but got beat up instead 'n told as liar.

This movie is totally a genius twisted history telling!! Every scene made delicately, unpredictable, amused, you just never get bored and keep wanting this movie to never end. That's how good it is.

I really wish they made a sequel~ but at second thought which story could beat a story of a whale eating a kingdom stamp?? ㅋㅋㅋ hardly exist ㅋㅋㅋ

If not it was a great story and comedy catagory which should have been a separate award. Thanks to the staff, working hard and keep on Fighting. All characters were wonderful. We need a drama similar to the movie with the same cast.

There are a lot of action scenes. Both of the leads did very good job. There was no boring moment. I would watch this again. I hope DVDs come out soon so I can have it for myself.

Judging from the situation, this may just be the very last time you see Sulli on screen. So it's your choice whether to watch it or not, but you don't have to announce it. Keep it to yourself.
