"My Liberation Notes" tells a story of three siblings and a stranger.
Yeom Chang-Hee (Lee Min-Ki) is the middle child of the three siblings. He wants to escape from his family's home in Sanpo Village, but he doesn't have a dream and just spends his life meaninglessly. He is looked down upon by his family members.
Yeom Mi-Jeong (Kim Ji-Won) is the youngest child of the three siblings. She would like to be liberated from her boring life, but she is introverted and timid. She is lonely and feels unfulfilled in her life.
Yeom Gi-Jeong (Lee El) is the oldest child of the three siblings. She has a hot temper. She wastes a lot of time commuting to her job in Seoul from Sanpo Village. Her life is filled with complaints and she wants to find love.
Mr. Gu (Son Suk-Ku) is a mysterious man, who suddenly appears in Sanpo Village. He is always drunk. One day, Yeom Mi-Jeong approaches him.

lrt Sep 26 2025 8:09 am Slow-paced story with very subtle progression and not enough for me to be satisfied. The interpreter kept saying worship me.... over and over which was irritating because it broke the scene and the constant drinking by Gu was a never-ending progression of bottles.
D Aug 07 2025 8:25 pm I didn’t know I can still watch a good romance drama like this. Most of the KDramas today esp romance has almost the same stories, but this one is different. It keeps you excited without seeing too much love/kissing scenes. Slow-paced. Mr. Gu is a head-turner! His raggedy look makes him more appealing. When I watch Mi-Jeong and Gu scenes, I am seeing a shy Son Suk Ku in front of lovely Ji-won

It was hard for met to finish the first episode, but when I finally did... it opened my eyes to the struggle and every day flight of people around me. Although my life is not that difficult anymore (having already retired at a relatively young age) in contrast to the Yeom siblings', I felt their pain, their desires for better jobs, and their longings to be liberated from their ordinary, mundane life.
If you pay close attention, you will see each person's gumption -- expressed in their own ways.. This drama left me feeling empty, sad, refreshed, lovable, liberated... all at once! It's a roller coaster of emotions, which is an every day occurrence in life.. and this drama helps me keep trudging on!

Why I left this for how many years in my watchlist? Yeom Mijeong literally portrayed my everyday struggles and thoughts that's why this is my personal favorite and my top 1 comfort drama. ?
Kdrama Llama Feb 01 2025 5:45 pm I watched MLN over Christmas and I’m still pondering how best to sell or describe it to others… I’m remain undecided but the show and characters have truly been haunting my thoughts.
It’s a special show that I adored, it’s quiet but I was never bored, I laughed (Chang Hee), I cried (Mi Jeong), swooned (Mr Gu), cringed/cheered (Gi Jeong) and admired how well the script and actors captured the mundanity and agony of everyday life, with occasional sprinkling of drama and levity.
I particularly enjoyed the relationship between the siblings and their individual journeys (although I think Gi Jeong was short changed here), the slow return to the land of the living of the mysterious Mr Gu, the portrayal of a small town, the concept of the liberation club, the cinematography, all of it was top notch. I will definitely be watching this show again and again…

Mila K Sep 08 2024 11:18 am One of the best Korean dramas I have ever seen. And it’s one of those dramas that I will be watching more than once. It shows people’s realistic daily lives. There was this depth in the characters yet simplicity I don’t know how to explain it but I loved watching it. It’s a unique storyline and not your typical love story. Rather than waiting for dramatic events to happen you just immerse yourself in the lives of those characters as they figure themselves out. I was surprised to find out after I finished it that it was written by the same writer who wrote My Mister which is one of my favorites as well. You can definitely see how this writer cares about showing real life stories and characters.
I loved all the characters and I’ve developed the biggest crush on Son Suk-Ku after watching it but I would say the character who left the most impact was Chang-Hee! The actor did an amazing job portraying this kind and genuine guy who goes through life dealing with obstacles but doesn’t lose his spark and love for the people around him.
The ending was great and realistic. They showed a glimpse of these people’s lives and moved on.
Before it ended I wish they had shown us more of the dad’s perspective and had taken us into his own thoughts and life so we can understand him a bit more. I also wish Chang- Hee and Mr. Gu met once again. I hoped Mr. Gu had spend more time listening to Chang-Hee and gave him the attention he deserved because he liked him a lot but Mr. Gu was dwelling on his own thoughts and was in need of someone to listen to him.
Queen K Aug 16 2024 11:18 am What did I just watch? A master piece. A true reflection of real life. This I must say is by far in of the best k drama’s I’ve seen. I absolutely love it. I love how everything truly reflects real life. I love how they makers make us know that happiness can be found in the most unexpected places at times. No exaggerations, pure reality. I can relate to each character. Very mature delivery of each role. My mushy-mushy stuff. Song suk-ku and Kim ji-won were an excellent match. If one is attentive, it’s not slow paced, it just portrays real life. I will definitely be rewatching this. I love it.

The actors & actress seems to enjoying to food as well.. must be yummy.

KM May 03 2024 9:23 am This is terribly slow. Gauging from the positive comments it should be good and from the ratings...it probably takes off after episode 5 or 6. If I use criminal minds profiling theories...the characters are pretty disturbing. I hope they will somehow surface from their stifling environment and save themselves from drowning.

It truly felt like a slice of our own lives portrayed on screen.

Park Min Feb 04 2024 6:07 am The cinematography and visuals were great although they went overboard with tilted shots and angles, surpassing their creative limits. The drama had a decent melodic score that blended with the shots just okay but no particular track stood out. Enough technicality, no matter how I look at it, the drama boiled down to be a cheap mix between Thirty-Nine (2022) & My Mister (2018), lacking soul and a unique identity. The self narration bits were a hit or miss, some lines were brilliant and fit the mood, while others were just nonsensical pretentious scribbles. There was a good opportunity to give these narrations to other characters as well but these were mostly done by Yeom Mi Jung. The end of episode 2 made it seem like a tacky show in a fancy wrapping, signaling that it wouldn't stay grounded and would resort to impractical moves to progress the plot forward and grab attention. This is one thing the drama constantly kept contradicting itself with. I didn't like their approach for the ending; they should've just wrapped it up instead of sneakily dancing around it for way too long. Don't excuse its shortcomings by calling it a slow show. Both the writer and director have succeeded in creating slow shows before, but this one missed the mark and sacrificed other important elements along the way. Even with a very relaxed 16 episodes, most of the characters didn't get the development they deserved, but I guess some slice of life scenes were more important. That one major transition around episode 13-14 was embarrassingly poorly done and was a real cowardly move by the writer to escape the writer's block. It left an unerasable stain for what could've been a decent show. Although there were aspects to like and appreciate, the drama didn't quite reach its potential.

Erika Nov 18 2023 7:31 pm (First part of review of Episodes 1-11) This review starts with My Mister My Mister is a Must Watch drama. You just have to experience it at least once. That said, I personally feel like I can only watch it once because the painful parts are just too much especially with the overpowering soundtrack.
Everyone says, if you liked My Mister, you'll like My Liberation Notes. That's the reason I put this drama off for so long. Midway though the first episode I was still thinking, "do I have the emotional bandwidth to carry this show?"
Long review short, I have been pleasantly surprised. MLN is another must watch drama that will be worth a rewatch. Lee El really stole the show IMHO. She was fantastic. Having watched Min-Ki only in The Beauty Inside, it's safe to say he is a Top Tier actor. I like how they "tried" to make him less attractive. Watch it.
(Updated review after completing series) Relationships were unnecessarily painful Dialog was overly metaphorical Too many situations made no sense timeline- wise. Major lack of skinship with all these relationships Gu and Min young were just plain boring. A clearly clinically depressed woman and a raging alcoholic. In real life, untreated, they'd be leaping into the Han River together in episode 16.

It melts my heart every time I watch it. This will mark the end of my twenties, and it will always stay in my memory. whenever I feel down or depressed I'll come back to this family (drama)

I love how all characters are flawed, have a personality you won't like, and hard to love and understand. How can a drama make me feel so empty yet so full?
The relationships between their parents, partners, friends, and even with their jobs are so relatable. The bond of each actors and actresses are so natural. You can feel their emotions even the quiet and dull characters, how they differently face each problems and how they speak their feelings.
Last, I love the ending. It's rare to find a korean drama where the ending is not rushed. They made sure that all 3 main characters had their moment at the end, super loved it!
I give it a 10/10. This is such a good drama, makes me appreciate the people around me and living more.
(Loved Lee El and Lee Ki Woo so much in this drama!)

You might get some answers that you're looking for a long time even thouth you've never asked or told anyone before. Thanks for this drama, It could answer many questions in my life. Motunade Feb 07 2023 12:35 pm Lately I've been having issues with completing drama's until I stumbled upon this a day ago....I couldn't stop...all the cast did an excellent job I love the Mr Gu stares at MJ.....but Lee min ki did it for me....I could feel he's frustration each of scenes reminds me of my feeling of frustration...he deserves an award for this movie.

Thus drama is a bit different from other kdramas. This is so realistic drama. Actually I watched this drama because of Kim ji won. Kim ji won had a great chemistry with Mr.Gu. I really love to the character Yeom mi jeong.She is a very independent lady. I recommend this drama to those who like to watch dramas about life. This drama may be nit suitable for those who like to watch romcoms. Saranghae!

Couchpotato Jan 01 2023 1:46 am It's a kind of drama that you don't really have to understand, you just have to feel it. It's like a glass full of water yet it's empty at the same time. The conversation between the characters were like meaningless at the first glance but they were all full of life lessons. Even the scenes with the absence of dialogue were actually telling everyone their inner thoughts.
I would love to see them again pondered about life and question everything about this world. Wonderfully written!

Son Suk Ku turned in a performance reminiscent of Tom Hanks as a man stranded on an island. A glance body movements told the moment. Lee Min Ki made the viewer join his frustration. Kim Ji Won and Lee El carried the viewer into their lives. Lee Ki woo truth moment was the neg. pregnancy test. Loved every episode. Casting deserves a round of applause for role assignment. Loved all aspects of the story line

Kate Nov 12 2022 11:38 pm Just finished this… so many emotions. First, like most people are commenting here this drama is not for everyone. The first 2 or 3 episodes I was like “what the hell is even happening here?” But honestly I just couldn’t stop watching. I think the best way I can describe this drama is bizarre. Not gonna lie, I needed another episode because that was not an ending and I’m kinda mad about it. I think everyone was absolutely amazing in their roles but I have to say that Lee MinKi just stole the show for me, he just did a phenomenal job. He was the best thing in this drama imo. And the second best thing, the chemistry between Jiwon and SukKu. You guys, their chemistry was so good it actually hurt. Like I need them in another drama together because I cannot get over the way Gu looked at Mijeong!!!! I can’t believe we only got a 3 sec kiss scene.. I can’t… I needed more. ㅠㅠ

After episode 4 you understand little better. They could have cut this drama to 6 episode total and would been awesome. You can actually skip over most of the nonsense scene and just watch the scenes between the main actors in main roles.

If you can’t take your eyes of the screen well into episode 3, trust me, It’ll change your life. You can’t compare this drama to anything you’ve seen before. If anything, it stands as a perfect juxtaposition to some of the best family life dramas I’ve watched (Reply series, 25 21, etc) while standing equally as genius as those dramas. It’s a heart wrenching 16 episodes that is just too real. The acting was superb and the writing was brilliant. I appreciate the shift in writing styles K-drama writers have been taking. I love the bubbly, heart warming dramas but every once in awhile we need rawness like this one. Perfect drama.

Some says this drama is boring, but I'd say this drama is relaxing (No fancy music needed). Especially in very few episodes at the beginning, the characters ignorance and scenery is the one that keeping my curiousity high. At the same time it always keeping you worry about the unexpected plot twist gonna happen, yet it never goes the way you wanted. So many life lessons, experiences and advices can be learned by only watching this drama and we may able to implement it to our real life, that's how high value this drama can be. Heartwarming drama. You'll Lee Min-ki did a great job playing role as Yeom Chang-hee where he performed a sad tension moment. Very impressively touching.
After watching several episodes of this drama, I slowly adapt Mr. Gu behave : Just remain silent, talk less and do more. And like Chang-hee, never forget your old friend. Stay in touch with them even you just say hi. To be honest, I kinda confused about the allure in episode 13-16 to predict how the ending is gonna be, and it's just be like that simple (lmao), and I should've know this because it's a slow paced drama. Like how you're gonna see it in real life. No need to be too flashy or looks stunningly crazy whatsoever, it just went straightforward. You can't say it's a sad ending nor happy ending, It's a simple "good ending" which means it doesn't stop there, they continue to live what life has given to them after years. Gi-jeong finding true love, Chang-hee pursuing a meaningful life, Mr. Gu wants to be happy, and Mi-jeong striving for liberation to fulfill her life purposes and freedom.
Not a drama for everyone obviously, you don't have to acknowledge the whole dialogues to get there. This drama meant to be enjoyed not to understand it. If you can't relate the main character feelings in the first place, then this drama is not for you. You'll likely get shaky and bored in the middle of the season.
If you lost your way in life and you are introverted... Nothing suits better than this. Completely built for us. I hope you seek your destiny in this supposedly beautiful world. So long, life goes on.
Mental health is very important, y'all~ Jul 05 2022 11:50 am I finally watched this series since it's so hyped up. I managed to watch until episode 12 but didn't really like and enjoy the drama, to be honest. I skipped 13-15 and watched 16 just because I want to see how the drama ends.
This is not a typical drama, I agree. There are a lot of situations and dialogues that can be relatable, I also agree. But, this is not exactly my cup of tea. Often times, I was left confused by the dialogues/scenes/directing. It didn't give me the satisfaction/made me feel relieved.
If Son Suk Ku is not in the drama, I think I'll drop it even in the first few episodes. Lee Min Ki's acting is quite great as well. And I can quite relate to Gi Jeong's struggles. Other than that, nothing too special.

Dialogues are superb. Some are very sentimental.
But contrary to other's view it is one of the best comedy among Korean series. I mean I love the humor hidden smoothly between the line.
I laughed very often , and had tears in my eyes too. My housemaid even had some curiosity and been watching me until the end of the seires.
I fell for Mr Gu and if I still have time I will follow his works for a big while.

I super like Gu although there are times I want to pick up those alcohol bottle and smash those at his head just so he'll stop drinking... But I know he's sick, he's alcoholic, and he can't just stop it, it'll be up to him to decide if he wanted to stop... I just like that he can be who he is when he's with Mi-Jeong and vice versa...
I found a comment here wondering who shouted that cause Gu to get startled and go off the train - the commenter said it was not explained... Actually it was explained on episode 9, it was Mi-Jeong that Guy heard, Mi-Jeong was on the same train as Gu, she was shouting at her brother Chang-Hee who was quite intoxicated at the time trying to pull him out of the train, you'll further see the siblings outside the station when Gu was waiting for a taxi...

The drama is closer to home and relatable for me as ordinary people :'DD Only the part where they reveal Mr. Gu's background didn't sit right with me. I mean... I wish he was just ordinary man too with complicated past, not an ex *spoiler* thug. Also at some point Mr. Gu feels like a Manic Pixie Dream Boy in all wrong reasons lol, his character isn't like general MPDB but the blueprint is there.
I will continue the drama later because Chanhee and Gijeong's arch are sooooo well written too.

I love the part where Tae-hoon expresses his love thru a single rose unfortunately fallen the buds on the floor before it gets to Ki-Jeong. This is very funny part when she asks, "What is this". I've never seen a man giving a stem to a woman, it's really funny but I get it's meaning. The writer never runs out of unique ideas. Applause to all casts who give justice to their wonderful characters. The ending is short, it deserves another season where we can see how MiJeong and Mr. Gu continue their love, Ki-Jeong and Taehun started the family and Chang-hee as a funeral director (hahaha) and start with a new lovely girl friend.

A girl's hair is her confidence (looking back on the episodes wherein she spends a lot of time doing her own hair), when a girl decided to cut her own hair it means she's about to make a big decisions in her life. For me, that big decision she take is to keep on loving and supporting Cho Tae Hun when she herself is having a hard time in their relationship.
This drama is superb! It's full of metaphor. It has many representation of us, an ordinary people who wishes to be liberated and feel loved.

When you are fortunate to meet the right person, you will have the will power to overcome the 'evil' trying to rob you of your wholeness. So glad the story ends that way. At first, I though this drama is gonna be boring and slow and not the kind of drama to look forward to. In fact, this drama keeps getting better and makes me curious about how their lives will be. This drama hits home so hard; each character portrays and represents our every lives, it is not just a usual k-drama but more like a dairy from real slice of life which everyone can relate to. It make me take a step back and reflect on myself, giving mine a purpose to survive each day by just find a small happiness from 5 minutes per day is enough and the " something good will happen to you today" keeps give me motivation to be positive as life goes on. The cast is superb; everyone nails his/her character. Kudos to everyone, especially Son Seokku. I never thought anyone else can play Mr. Gu as he did. Mr. Gu's role is just for him. At first, I thought he is just another not so good looking male lead, yet from one episode to anther without much monologue i can see his charm from his staring and his eyes. And damn, when he smiles it melts my heart (believe not only mine) now I like Son Seokku a lot and will keep on supporting him for next projects. He deserves these recognition ?.Some audiences complain that the writer didnt show much about Mr. Gu's past life or background rather his name only after 11.Trust me it is not about getting to know who he is in the past, but how us all , Mijeong and Yeom's family drawn into him as spending time with him and how they help each other, worship one another and feel liberated at the end. Seokku and Jiwon are a very unexpected kdrama couple but their chemistry are just insane. I really wish they will have another project together sooon....thank you to writer, director n all cast. I finally feel liberated after finishing MLN too. This drama will be remembered for very long time

Renwa May 30 2022 5:43 am Where do I begin…there is so much to say about this Brilliant work, My Liberation Notes. The screenplay is a work without an equal. Park Hae Young has done it again. The screenplay is fresh, innovative and written with language you’ve not heard before and may not again. She worships, respects and embraces the written and spoken word. Clearly she adores actors sharing her gifts with the best. Kudos at this point to the translators who have captured the essence of the script’s genius. Kim Suk Yoon, Director brought his own genius, understanding and extraordinary sensitivity to this precious gem handed to him. Clearly his craftsmanship is evident throughout. The cinematographers aka “the artists” created such beauty on screen it stopped me in my tracts over and over again. I intend to watch the drama again just to view it as an art show…but truly it set the backdrop & tone of this drama. The actors…OMG…what talent & chemistry! The character development of each of the main characters was noteworthy testing the acumen of the actors. Clearly this is the A team as they all fully rose to the occasion. ALL award worthy performances.
The Actors Kim Ji Won delivered a fresh nuanced spectacular performance that brought tears to my eyes & hope in my heart. Son Suk Ku delivered a complex extraordinary performance. His chemistry with Kim Ji Won reflected a deep growing love story we haven’t seen in this manner in a drama. Wow. Yup, I too am smitten. Lee Min Ki is a favorite actor. Loved his courage in taking this role/character on…you hit it out of park! What a range of acting. Lee El’s performance moved me from irritation to compassion. That’s what a fine actor does. Cheon Ho Jin and Lee Kyung Sung were just superb. A small cameo role by Jung Young Joo didn’t go unnoticed. Yup, I’m a real fan and she’s a standout wherever she appears. Some random additional comments…the slow pace in the first 5-6 episodes were meaningful but may have been off putting. Stay with it and you will be greatly rewarded. Episodes 15 And 16 constituted the plausible ending as we see character growth, maturity, acceptance, and hope for their lives. I do think there’s a case to be made for a second season but would be as well satisfied with just this one. Again, an extraordinary work of art, genius and pleasure watching. Thank you all for sharing you talents with us. May you win every award you justly deserve.

It was so relatable from the beginning, we are a family of three siblings, one boy and two girls, my brother is the second child.The story felt like mine, I’ve been living very far from work in another city and for years I’ve been suffering from the long time spent on roads transporting between the two cities, I felt that the three siblings really resembled us in many aspects, but unfortunately we didn’t have a mr.Gu nearby. Even the conversations in this drama resembled those I had with my brother or in my head, because of this series I had a lot of seconds where I felt I can endure. Many thanks to the writer ( when I told my brother about the story, he answered oh does the writer live with us ? ). Son so ku was very very brilliant in his acting he made us feel every emotion without speaking a word, all other actors were brilliant too. Wonderful symbolic end. Much love

This series recognizes and pays tribute to the dark souls, those who never stop questioning the meaning of life and communication with people, and those who never stop fighting their inner demons. And it gives them hope again in the liberating force of love. Another aspect of this series that makes it so watchable is the refreshing strength of the script. The solid script, written obviously by people believing in the power of words, transpires from the very beginning to the end, consistent of metaphor and interspersed with a sense of humour. Last but not least, brilliant acting!

Norik BC May 29 2022 8:28 pm The acting was superb by all from siblings , mr ku , gang and office workers , big bravo ,loved and enjoyed the storyline about average ordinary people and the daemons they face daily in their lives , alcoholism , loneliness, overwork relationships , etc. Despite the well chosen cast and a great storyline , this drama’s pace in overall was very slow , with too many boring repetitive unnecessary scenes , as the drinking , eating, walking, working , etc. As much as I was excited to see these actors and My mister drama’s writer’s new work , I became disappointed because it just dragged till the end , sorry

What geniuses to come up with such a great writer and lead actors to bring it to life. I can’t say enough good things about Ki, Ji-won and Son Sukku, who deserve best actress and best actor awards. He had the chance to pick himself up (just like he picked up the coin) and liberate himself. Which we can assume he's going to be doing from now on as the flask of whiskey he bought at the convenience store was left beside the homeless man. He is walking towards his "liberation" which we probably can assume would be Mi Jeong because we could see her patiently waiting on someone. Everyone felt some kind of liberation even if it was only for a split second. Everyone will continue to work towards a more steady liberation, not just one that lasts for a split second but one that'll be constant. That's where the members starting back the club comes in, Chang Hee finding his passion, etc...

I think Mr. Gu covered the lost funds with his own money. He says the same thing MJ said earlier in the show about moving forward one step at a time. This drama is a black hole waiting to suck you all into it. Watch it in small doses. There is no silver lining in any episode so far, just an endless drone of complaints about how they can't be happy because of how things seem in their lives.

Like many of you, I've been watching kdrama for years & tho I have enjoyed tge outstandingly g dramas such as Red Cuff Sleeve, this s at another level. Tho I don't grow up in village, why does this resonate with me so much? Every episode hit at my soul, tho there's no common experience. This is what a writer is, how a prolific writer captures real life down to each worrd. Respect! Each character breaths meaning & impact to the scene. So much lessons learnt, so much regrets..... mother...... I cried so hard. Woman, be giving but also pls take time for self. Subsevience is crap. Love requires talking some sense into your partner! Min Ki acted so well. I see n real life he is very stylish but he, really a bumpkin! Gu the is so dashing. But in real lol fe stay away from such men. You'll be heart broken. I don't want My Liberation Notes to end!

Since it's a sole family in this story the " slow pacing " reminds me of Reply 1988 just that typical friendship of neighborhood families . I don't know how to explain my emotions, but I became so attached to Sanpo and to all the people living there. I didn't even feel sad whenever I broke up with my lover, but when things happened in the Yeom family, it was like I was also broken. I can say that all the tears and sobs I released were all worth it and I am very grateful for all the life lessons this drama has taught me. Regardless of what happens, I will accept it wholeheartedly and will always be my favorite and most comforting drama. Manifesting for a happy ending, though! ?

When watching a scene you know exactly what each of them feels. I have never cared so much about a dying character than I did in this one. It was like a close family member had died. Judging by the ratings the people of Korean are missing out, but they can watch Netflix too. This drama is not only well written, well acted, and well directed, but the photography is fantastic.

It was about Ep 4 that I started really noticing how good the writing and acting was, and how I wanted to know more about these characters. Since then it hasn’t stopped. It’s the first drama I watch Saturday morning now. Ep 12 was so good. I am convinced this is a severely slept on drama. And I can’t imagine any of the actors being replaced that’s how good they are in this.

It is intended for general audiences. It has never been boring. The actors portray their characters in excellent way. The scenes are equally divided into three main characters, they have their own love stories. I love all the characters but I love Mi Jeong and Mr. Gu loveteam the most. They deserve the Best Couple's award.

Makes them relatable and irritating and realistic. Makes you wonder how you will react in the same situations. I like the moodiness as they are sorta country bumpkins in spite of their city jobs. Love love love Mr. Gu and how he clicks with Yeom Mi-Jeong. Their wordless gazes get me everytime.

I cringe watching the brother talk everything that comes out of his mouth is so shallow. The big sister is also a bit strange she cries way too much. I lost respect for Mi jeong from the moment she asked Gu to worship her, like come on girl, you don't need a persons validation to help you learnt to love yourself or gain confidence. That shouldn't be how you approach learning to love yourself. My favourite person at this point is the dad. We're all looking for our place in life and in the end we may have to settle, or things may not turn out as we hoped. That's life. I am looking for a good ending here though, lol. Lead girl a melancholy soul, lead guy issues from past. Their love story mostly silent with bits of conversation but they understand each other, don't we all want someone to understand us, imperfections and all? Other plots interesting as well. Alot of eating, I'm constantly hungry watching this. Drinking too.

Deeply flawed and human characters yet very carefully written; at epi 8 and the plot thickens but no hyped up drama, just real people slogging along and enjoying life's small rewards and lessons. Top notch A list cast--you'll see all your favorite serious actors in this ensemble--I wish I could have seen the first reading gathering, I'd bet they were very excited over this one!--great directing, staging, subtle OST.
This one is going to win many prizes, mark my words.

I’ve watched the episodes several times out of fear I have missed something in the subtitles. Lee mik ki is surprising. He played an immature boy/man very well. His performance was deeply endearing. Gu’s performance was one where I hope to see much, much more of him. A+++++++++, 10!!!!!

The actors are excellent and the story is so well written that it keeps you wanting more. Like what everyone else was saying, once you learn about each characters, it really does get more interesting. I also found myself blushing with the Mr. Gu and Mi yeong couple. I really want a happy ending. The way he fits right in with her family is so cute. I love it.
As for the ratings. Usually for JTBC and TVN dramas, ratings are usually not as high as say KBS, SBS and etc. They're basically a television channels hay people have to pay for in Korea and it's not a free channel. They're more like HBO and STARZ. So typically if you see ratings rise each week, it is actually doing well and Korea actually love it as much as we do internationally. Ratings tend to start lower and ends on a higher note with JTBC and TVN dramas. I just hopey Liberation Notes end in the double digit because it deserves to be. Personally, with all my years of watching kdramas, TVN and JTBC makes some of the best dramas I've ever watched! Its almost guaranteed to be great. You can trust that it'll be an amazing drama on those two channels.

The most genuine emotional healing movie. KJW is a very talented actress, her acting is good over time, each role leaves its own mark. MJ is a role with little dialogue, so all emotions are expressed through eyes and body language. JW shows off the non-verbal acting very well. Every word you want to say is expressed through your eyes, each frown, and your warm deep voice. The loneliness, the lost, the disappointment, the smiling smile, and the gradually brightening eyes are all perfectly acted by KJW. 1 reliable actor. KJW is one of the most capable 9x actors on the Korean screen.

At first, well, of course, it's pretty slow and tedious, but as the episode goes by and little by little I have known the characters, it goes to me how beautiful this series was. It's so (like everyone else says) relatable because it's true; once you've understood the struggles each character has, you know it. It feels like you are drawn by them unwillingly; you've become part of their lives and see what it feels like to be like them. With each character, you've witnessed the different perspectives of life, knowing what others might think at that moment and how they tried their best to resolve it all. I love everything about this drama ?

The siblings all need liberation which is based on what they value and what they think is important. It really speak up to me because most of the time, I can relate to all the sibling, mostly on Mijeong but not to the point, I hate everyone. A salute to the writers, actors, and the director. flowers May 03 2022 5:22 am i don't know when I started liking this kind of dramas that have a lot of quiet moments to them. I started Korean dramas way back in the early 2000s and back then the whole zany romcoms and super dramatic melos were all the rage. Those dramas could easily get you hooked. But I guess as I start to get older, my tastes changed as well. Now I tend to really enjoy dramas with lots of scenic shots, more pauses in between scenes and more focus on the thoughts and inner dialogues of character with subtle touches of comedy and romance. Plus having introverted characters that don't necessarily approach life with 100 percent zest and energy are giving me so much life. Having said all of that, I am really liking and enjoying this drama. The acting is so on point. The storyline of having to struggle with your daily adult life with no really tangible antagonist is so realistic, you can't help but see yourself in their shoes and root for them. My favorite storyline is for the youngest sibling. The chemistry between Mijeong and M. Gu is off the roofs. gaaaah. I can't help but crave more after each of their meanigful interactions. Thank goodness the show's ratings are rising.

The small glimpse, the small talk, makes my heart flutter. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I tell you, every episode is so real. I can't wait for the next episodes but I also don't want it to end. You may not believe me, but their small conversation really makes me scream and there's no other romantic drama that has made me feel this way. I hope this would have a happy ending.

The story is very well-written and you have to read what haven’t said in between the line. All casts are Amazing. Son Sukku and Kim JiWon in particular they both are very cute together. Min-Ki and Lee El are also scene stealers plus Hye Jin and Sang Jo. Love everything about this series.

Both have some wisdom to teach and subjectively interesting story to tell. Another slow paced drama with nice story I'd recommend are 'A Piece of Your Mind' and 'Just Between Lovers'. Hope you enjoy.

It's a slow-paced reflection on modern city life and the complicated relationships people can have with family, romance, and the self. It can certainly be boring but stick around for the self-aware and complex characters, the beautiful delivery of the script, and the cinematic quality of the drama.
I resonate most with Kim Ji Won and Lee El's characters. I can't explain it entirely in a small review, but when you watch it, you will also see their sentiments. I hope it will sustain how enjoyable it is up until the end.

At first i dont have any expectation. Now this is the only series i watch to relieve myself when im so fed up with my day to day life. When i dont want to smile and just want quiet and peaceful. This is how i get upset at my boss when she is being absurd at times. This is how i had to get along my co workers and join them socially when i never wanted to. This ks is how i always feel alone... And feel like after so many breakups, did i actually love anyone? Can i actually really love anyone... And the worship thing. I feel its actually what i have seen lately has come up, even with myself. This was exactly what i told my friend that i wanted to be worshipped. I dont know why but just do. I watched My Mister and recognized that the writer was wise, wiser than writers in most dramas. Her character actually represents the people who are like that by nature and I mean not just an introvert but a deeper one. Watching every ep, every situation she's in I can't help but be in awe at how the production team was able to accurately show how Mijeong relates herself to the outside world. One thing that really defines Mijeong as That kind of person is her eyes. It gives me that dreamy feel when I stare at her eyes and I could say "Yes, Mijeong is definitely that". Ms.Ji Won did a good job acting the role. 29:31 is so funny I do that too. In general, most people would find this drama too slow with few lines only heard from the fl but I hope whoever watches until the end will somehow understand Mijeong as a personality and respect it.

It is slow paced but each second is full of emotions and good acting. I am particularly pleasantly surprised with Son-Suk-Ku's effortless and natural acting and Lee Min-Ki's acting is commendable shift from typical CEO role. The ladies are also impressive- it is not easy to play slow role. Cant wait to see the future episodes.

Not everybody has a romcom, action-packed or melodrama life. Some just lead boring lives, directionless, escapists and unending search for life's purpose and self-worth.

I didn't expect that I could even relate to Gi-jeong's character especially the scene when she is just too tired and doesn't even know the reasons behind it :(((( many of us have experienced that. I wish its 2 hour drama per episodes, it feels short to be honest how come this slow paced drama doesn't feel slow paced at all??
I am looking forward to the next episodes and hopefully will see more story of Mr. Gu's life.

I find myself pondering whenever the characters thought/ said something abt their life which mostly are very real and relatable. And I love the mystery surrounding Mr Gu.. So relaxing and the people are so real! No crazy twist, no absurb situation. The siblings conversations, the annoying co-workers, the struggle of being an adult. Previews for ep 5 had me screaming! Mr. Gu is so cute asking her dad for her number!

Sentinel Apr 17 2022 5:18 pm I rate 9/10. 4 episodes thus far and I'm enjoying this a lot. This drama main genre is psychological, slice of life and possibly romance. The plot pace is pretty slow, so if you're not patient then you may not be able to enjoy it. It mainly emphasize the characters' lives and their emotion following, that's why the plot feels slow. But if you like quiet and peace, every scene and BGM is perfect. Director did a great job. Moreover, never have I thought Kim Ji won would be so fitting as an introvert and quiet girl, her adorableness multiplied by tenfold. I hope the good writing will continue until the last episodes. But looking at present, it looks promising.
slc Apr 17 2022 5:14 pm Park Hae Young is a brilliant screenwriter. Just as in My Mister, she captures the emotions of normal, everyday working people so well. It should surprise no one who has seen My Mister that the first 2 episodes are somewhat depressing and boring as we get to know the characters in the story. Stick with the drama and you will be rewarded in Episodes 3 and 4 with humor and brilliant insights. I can't wait for the next episode to air.
Val Apr 17 2022 1:00 pm Im not into these type of dramas (im a romcom type of person) but I love this show so far. There’s not a lot going on but I can feel their emotions clearly. The chemistry between them all is amazing and has me rooting for an alcoholic (you’ll know what I mean if you’ve seen it). This drama is chill and realistic, I recommend giving it a shot. It may seem boring but it keeps making you go back to it.

I do not know why I could not work and could not make friends during those periods. those are easy to do. escaping the "stuck" stage should be easy. but when you are in that state, you do not do anything logical. only meds can help you. watching these "annoying" characters onscreen gives me hope. that huma affection and connection can actually take the place of medicine. but maybe that is only wishful thinking

The Yeom family seems out of touch with each other, the parents are too cold and don't seem very supportive to their children. The frustration the Yeom siblings are going through, potrays what some people are like. Some of us can't seem to break free from something that we can't seem to identify, but yet we feel bogged down. We can't seem to get the results we desire despite the work we put it(Mijeong)...how frustrating . Big ups to the writer of this story, can't wait to see what's unfolding in the coming episodes.
Jaine Apr 16 2022 8:23 pm I appreciate your comments, @ANNA, and might jump to ep 3..so far I am fastforwarding through ep2 and can't stand any of the family, and Lee MinKi's character is pathetic...I hope there is a learning curve for him but given the family and their sullen demeanor, I don't think there is enough love there to branch out from..I may just go back to Record of Youth where at least the screenwriter lets us know what the family is thinking as they struggle to find a way to survive the poverty they are in.....

Based on the preview too I think this drama should be getting much better compared to the first 2. I think this should be worth watching.

It just feels to me that if she was a) not conventionally attractive, young and thin, or b) male, she would come off less as a sympathetic character and more just... a pathetic character? Asking some drunkard stranger to worship him/her is something that only feels interesting or meaningful because we know its a TV show and its all beautifully shot and all. And she's a grown woman stuck in an ennui driven rut, seems like her character doesn't need a kdrama savior to sweep her off her feet, she needs a therapist.
Liked My Mister, might pass on the rest of this one.

The lines weren’t catchy or didn’t make me into the content. The concerns I don’t think the casts but the writer and the story presentation. Too bad, I like the plot actually.

The vibe of calmness and soothing are all I get here. I can say that, it is a kind of healing drama. I have difficulty in expressing my feeling, but the drama say it all. It feel so light inside.Can't wait for the weekend.

What makes the drama "boring" is that it's not like the usual Korean dramas with funny, colorful, very dramatic story line which makes that drama so much different and unique. The rawness shows how life is actually for many of us and makes it so relatable which makes it even better. I don't think this drama is for everyone. People have preferences some might like it others might not. I love but also kinda hate how much I relate to the main character in this drama. I am looking forward to it. If anyone likes raw and heavy dramas I think this one will be good for u!

My Mister is my all-time favorite series, and now writer Park Hae-young has come up with another soon-to-be hit drama. I hope the production process goes smoothly.

Apr 11 2022 4:52 pm I so glad to see son suk ku , I really adored him in designated survivor and wished ge could have lead roles, I can’t wait to see how he will develop his character ,as we go along . I like this drama because I noticed many well known actors in secondary roles which is fascinating to me , I always wished a drama will be made with only all well known actors in the roles . Now back to this little girl, Kim ji won who is an overwhelmingly great actress , she could match up with any older well seasoned Korean or Hollywood actresses, in Arthdahl chronicles she stole my heart , as one of my favorites , even against great established cast , she really held her own , BRAVA . Lee ki woo , Lee El and Lee min ki are also great in their roles, I have seen them in other dramas, they are very versatile actors and adorable , bravo , chen Ho Jin is always great as an older character . This is first time for me to see him playing a poor farmer , because , I have only seen him playing a well to do , rich person. It’s interesting to see how he is going to develop his farmer role.

It is comforting in a way in which people are reminded that everyone is going through the hard times and they are facing individual hardships. I also love the scenery in the country side and the calming cinematography. I'm completely drawn into this drama.

Also because the castings are great actors i kinda have high expectation for the next episodes.

IF I want to feel mundane, I have my own life to look at I don't need to watch a boring kdrama. Also someone worshipping you does not make you Whole. Only You Can Make Yourself Whole. There is something to say about the mundaneness of everyday. They should appreciate that no one has cancer or homeless or hungry. They all have a job and a roof over their head and all they do is gripe about their peaceful life. I don't get it.
