Kang Seok-Ho (Kim Soo-Ro) is an ordinary lawyer and former bike gang member. He then takes a position to revive a third rate high school named "Byeong-Mun High School". To revive the school, Kang Seok-Ho needs his students to become accepted into prestigious universities. Because of this, Kang Seok-Ho decides to teach a bunch of rebellious students (Hwang Baek-Hyeon, Kil Pul Ip, Hong Chan-Du, Na Hyeon-Jeong, and Oh Bong-Ku). He promises to get five of them into their most prestigious colleges in the country. Kang Seok-Ho takes students who have bad scores, and guides them to improve not only their scores but their outlook on life.
One such student is Hwang Baek-Hyeon (Yoo Seung-Ho) a defiant and headstrong student who is similar to Kang Seok-Ho at that age. Their strong personalities causes them to have clashes, but gradually, Hwang Baek-Hyeon opens up to Seok-Ho's teaching methods and eventually becomes the best student in the class.

Park Min Jan 21 2023 10:53 am I think this would have been great as a 2 hours comedy/life movie if given the proper attention. In its drama format it's just too flawed. The students' acting was a hard sell and I couldn't give a damn about their romances. The teachings/life lessons/messages were mostly a hit or miss. I don't know why I was expecting something on the level of GTO. Anyway, it's passable.

No wonder Korea has a marriage and birth rate problem. The police there should be arresting the teaching staff.

Norman FB Dec 31 2021 3:19 am Apart from the lead guy (the god) and Bae Doona playing a low key sort of second-in-command role of the special class, most of the young actors did a pretty good job. Especially the second girl Na Hyun Jung played by PARK Ji-Yeon - also the most pitiful character who appears to have no parents, lives in a grand apartment and is unrequited by the lead male pupil Baek-Hyun. Oh YoonAh also waltzes about with her flamboyant attire (as the school's director) for once playing a not unlikeable character.
But oh what a missed opportunity to actually put across some good teaching/learning principles. Instead of the absolute rubbish spoken by the teachers who dare to take on these "failures", they could so easily have showed what actually works well in a school environment instead of terrorising all future kids who watch this show. It started well, but the absolute idiocy of the teaching just left me gob-smacked. Some of the teachers were just too weird and downright dangerous to be let near children. The writers obviously didn't bother to consult real, good teachers for advice.

Joe A Apr 20 2018 8:50 am Too sappy at times, of course, and the teaching methodologies seem ridiculously bad at times however the main actors, both adults and kids, are all likable and very good and the drama does a great job of portraying the tremendous drive and determination of this small group of students to learn as well that of the teachers to teach them plus care for them beyond just in the classroom.The virtues of this K-drama more than compensate for its flaws. I am really enjoying it.

I was like 11 too like B2uty haha this motivates me so much if there's a kdrama that i want to recommend, this comes to my mind :-) And then i suddenly like jdramas and anime just last year, i never knew that master of study was from dragon zakura. I just watched dragon zakura last month, June. If im gonna compare, dragon zakura is more better. I SWEAR :-) but for those who havent watched both, DRAGON ZAKURA AND MASTER OF STUDY (both dramas) IS A MUST. YOU NEED TO WATCH BOTH PLEASE

The cast is the best of the best, It was really well script as well as written with great direction and production. It especially served as a great learning tool for study and college admission.

CiCi Nov 14 2012 3:34 pm Why someone decided to call this "God" of Study, it doesn't make sense, but "Master" of Study is right on the money. Once I got over the first title and watched this drama, I was hooked. It is really good including the song, "Because I'm Weary". I am glad this film received at least a couple of awards and I agree that the director should have gotten one. I also think Yoo Seung-Ho should have gotten an award for his performance. Wow! What a talent. Kim Su-Ro was award- worthy too.Then again, the grandmother was amazing as well. I "LOVE" her! ( If she doesn't pull at your heartstrings, then you don't have one.) Also, her picture deserves to be among the main cast members. Someone, please do this, huh? Except for the over the top flamboyant teacher and the stu.. stu... stuttering Science nincompoop, who were a waste of my time anyway, everyone did a great job. I think even guys will cry watching this, it's that endearing and heartwarming in places.
