Park Min Dec 09 2023 7:11 am Casually confirming for nth time how unappealing Choi Soo Jong is in historical dramas as always since the start of his career. Just from reading the synopsis you may expect a big historical drama with big sets, big battles and big production, but this drama was embarrassingly scuffed with minimal efforts after the initial batch of episodes. As always with these type of shows, they blow their budget early on on flashy scenes then left wondering how to produce the rest. You may expect inconsistencies along the way, like having two or more camera angles of the same scene with different color grading and quality. I suppose an intern was editing that day. Anyway, the drama itself was underwhelming and almost nothing about it stand out, not even the cast nor their performance. All of their dramatic creative liberties proved to be unsuccessful and dull, as expected. A lot of petty fights that are always annoying to watch and lasting too long. At least the drama served as an example for how not to tell history in an entertainment medium.
an audience Feb 16 2022 8:14 am it is definitely worth the watch... even though king munmu was portrayed quite annoying :)) i liked the acting and the whole idea behind the plot line...
X May 13 2021 11:05 pm Really epic drama I enjoyed! Never been a fan of kdramas before but this series was acted so believable (choi soo jung in the leading role is perfect for Kim chuncho's smart and sharp personality... ) Even though he aging was a bit different compared to the real events in Korean history, I believe this can be ignored cause the characters were well suited to the drama... my personal opinion is that no one could ever portrait Kim chuncho as good as choi... This drama presented a very new and bright side of king Kim chuncho which can be defended due to the fact that no one's all black ... everyone have light deep inside including Kim chuncho who was accused of betraying his country... some times certain things must be done to achieve higher more important goals...
Trish Mar 04 2021 10:18 pm Enjoying this series, some EPIC battles. I like how it is showing all sides of the 3 Kingdoms. Lots of characters to love and hate :D SO dramatic but what do you expect. Enjoyed all actors performances but thought elder Seungman was a bit over the top sometimes. (screaming hissy fits :D)) I'm trying to watch these chronologically so next on my list is The Great Battle Cheers!
bbb Jan 20 2021 12:14 pm I miss this kind of history dramas, they don't exist anymore unfortunately
Linda Umstead Jan 06 2021 2:21 am This is a fantastic series. I am learning so much about Korean history and culture. Thank you!
Crystal Jan 21 2020 6:22 am Wah, KBS should have courted for the 2009 MBC QSD casts for this drama. I swear, it would have been better. 2009 QSD was just beyond perfection especially Mishil (Ko Hyun Jung).
Lomi Feb 01 2018 9:05 am @Morino: If you are talking about Muyeol (Kim Chunchu) he wasn't immersed in China's culture but more like, he - just like his aunt (Queen Seondeok) knew how to bow their heads when needed - for the sake of their people. They knew how to "play" games. They needed to protect their kingdom from their neighboring country who teamed up to beat them. No matter how rich Silla has become, their country is still much smaller than Goguryeo who aided Bakje. If they will not do anything, Silla will be conquered. They used their wit to gain Tang China's trust in order to help them and so from their small country, they were able to conquered their two neighboring countries and unified the three Kingdoms. As impossible as it may sound, but a small country like Silla was able to beat an empire like Goguryeo.
Later on, when Tang,China started to look down on them and threat them, they were already strong enough to go against them - which is the complete opposite of what you are saying right now. They weren't stupid enough to think that they can conquer any kingdoms (no matter how big) just because they wanted to.
Lee Seo Hwa Aug 27 2017 12:10 pm Is Keum Koon and On Koon Hae the same character???
jestine29 Aug 24 2017 6:50 am @Monino just how many Korean countries are there? lol it's always an easy thing to say this and that..if that were you how would you handle it?
Lee Seo Hwa Aug 11 2017 3:41 pm I would like to honor No Young Hak as best character than all character from King's Dream! He is so inspiring, he very suited to this drama 100%! Please make him act more like this drama, why he had such unpopular drama role.... Also Jungyi suited his role too. He's the best actor of all King's Dream! He's gone in episode 9, I can hardly watch without him growing up. Oh, I'm glad the adult Kim Yusin act well like No Young Hak. Adult Kim Yusin's voice is so nice!
Lee Seo Hwa Aug 11 2017 3:33 pm This brings back the old memory of Hwarang Kdrama ! They have the same uniform as Hwarang lol! The child acting is like adult and I hope I'm not the only one watching this old drama from 2017 years.
Monino Jul 05 2017 2:47 pm I wonder! Why does this drama makes a hero out of a Korean King who was so immersed in China's culture that he even changed the clothes the royals wore in the palace?! A Korean king who collaborated with another country to subdue his own Korean country men?! I would consider this king a traitor! He destroyed other Korean countries with the help of China! Big traitor!
youngmoney77 Jan 09 2017 1:38 am why are there 2 seungman in this drama? i'm honestly confused
Korean Drama Sep 28 2016 11:35 pm I Love This Drama. Choi Soo Jong is Great of King.....
ehsan Mar 01 2016 7:28 am choi soo jong is best and excelent. its best drama.
Kamyar Azizi Jun 02 2015 12:14 am The worst thing about this drama is the cast. I want to kill the cast selecter of drama. Choi Soo Jong is 50 years old. He or she.could choose a younger and better actors and actresses instead. Queen Sunduk's actress is not good also Kim Yushin. Silla truly was.the greatest kingdom among the three hans but this drama didn't show it well and was disappointing

someone Aug 02 2014 4:16 am Lol, this drama is draggy and boring. Choi Sujong's acting here is horrible, compared to Dae Joyeong and Emperor of the Sea. The only good actors were Kim Yooseok and Choi Cheolho, who played Kim Yushin and Bidam. It's ridiculous how they portray Kim Chunchu and make efforts to make him seem perfect, but only make him seem even more twisted. No character in the history of Korea was perfect. The same happened with Kim Yushin (though a little better). King Uija was okay, though. And they make Yeongaesomun look like a pathetic excuse of a man, when he was quite helpful in Goguryeo, though I agree that the man wasn't perfect and a little crazy.
But, now that were's comparing it to Queen Seondeok, I'll tell you. Mishil didn't really exist in that time or do all those creepy things, it was just an addition. Queen Seungman did exist and hate Queen Seondeok and Kim Chunchu. Queen Seondeok is better made, but completly unrealistic, looks like a fiction sageuk rather than a solid one. Kim Chunchu didn't succeed Queen Seondeok, it was Queen Jindeok, Queen Seondeok died before Bidam, Kim Chunchu and Kim Yooshin were childhood friends, Kim Yooshin did marry the third daughter of Kim Chunchu while Kim Chunchu married Kim Yooshin's younger sister. Lol, it's confusing.
I'll tell you in short that this drama sucks compared to Queen Seondeok, but that Queen Seondeok is an unrealistic bunch of fantasy compared to this drama. Period.
Mahdi Hekmatipour Jul 21 2014 10:36 am it's fuuny that su dingfang is wearing Damdeok's armor at king gwanggaeto the great
Mahdi Hekmatipour Jul 20 2014 6:55 pm it was really disgusting.kim yu-shin was opposite to silla-tang alliance, but when he received service in bed from his niece kim chun-chu's daughter,he changed his mind!!!when you decide to show small minded people from a small state like heroes and great men, naturally you will show some obsessive ,iserable men who'd like to be like the great heroes, but they can't.it's obvious from rating you lost.one man like Yeon gae somun worth more than 100 people like chun-chu and yu-shin
Mahdi Hekmatipour Jul 18 2014 8:08 pm whaaaaaaaaaaaaat???????????? li si-min said : for the sake of kim chun-chu,i stop waging war against goguryeo?????an army of 1,200,000 had lost, what could he do except stopping war?how dare you insult goguryeo just bacause to portray a good, brave and wise kim chun-chu and a show silla a great nation?do you not fear god?truth is clear like a daylight.this drama makes my blood boiling.it took a lifetime for wang guhn to unify peninsula, but he did that, just because he believed himself and his target and knew the way, unlike that obsessive kim chun-chu
Mahdi Hekmatipour Jul 18 2014 7:40 pm i haven't watched any series relating to silla until 3 months ago that i watched queen seondeok, and now i'm watching this one, right now episode 50.u can't imagine how i laughed, that trickster kim chun-chu wants li si-min to stop waging war againt gogureyo(lol....)and then dare to lecture tang ministers(hehehe....)i'm sure this was reality:kim chu-chu begged li si-min to wage more wars against goguryeo,at the same tome pressing armly baekje from sea and stop trading and diplomatic relation with both goguryeo&baekje and give silla technology and some positions at the tang court, but li si-min didn't accept!!!then kim chu-chu start to licking Taizong feet and then ...this drama is a joke.but i'm happy to see choi jae-sung as gye baek that played the roll of great general Gang jo og goryo(although some people with silla roots made his great name as a traitor who has killed mokjong.this drama didn't say that how large tang army was who slaughtered in front of Ansi.if general yeon gae somun was alive, and even he wasn't alive,if there was no internal strife in goguryeo, with the help of all the world tang-silla-khitan weren't able to defeat the Great kingdom of Goguryeo.once again i have to say in this drama wen the see each other, when they should say hi or goodbye or how are you,or when they die or any doing, they say samhan il tong (dae yo bel???)i'm so furious of silla, they were like a dog for tang
Mahdi Hekmatipour Jul 17 2014 10:05 pm why are you not confirming my comments, just bacause i say the truth about silla? As a person who watch korean dramas and love korean history,i hate Silla, especially kim chun chu with his filthy tungue and also his son.i don't know the real number, but i guess near 100000 korean people (most of them were from goguryeo&Baekje) became tang's slaves, just because the silla ruffian rulers' greed, the silla rulers served like a dog to tang emperors.this series.i'm now at episode 45,it's so ridiculous to show silla so generous.also to accentuate kim chun-chu,they show seondeok a weak ruler with a weak royal authority.in every episode we see that some characters replace hello and how r u with this:Samhan il Tong(Yunifying the three han states),it's really annoying to hear this every 5 minutes or less
elgo Jun 20 2014 6:12 am corrections:
elgo Jun 19 2014 3:31 pm to be frankly, the drama series is oring. the hwarangs are not even charismatic. bring back the old characters, they have more acting skills. merely boring. Queen Sein Deok was a great drama series unlike The great King's dream, it is way too boring. bring back the characters! another thing I didn't like the actress who portrayed Quen Seon Deok, only Lee Yo Won got the charisma. I'm so disappointed with this drama series. It's complicated.
shaima Dec 28 2013 6:26 am The main reason why i wach this drama is becouse i miss Mishil and Bidam. Bidam is the bad guy again, i hate this. But were is Mishil? Without Mishil there is no charm in all the plot. In the next drama please put Mishil back !!!
Yoon Song-ri Nov 17 2013 12:38 am . SarangHae LEE SE-YOUNG .. your so pretty and talented ., <3<3<3
harriett garin Oct 29 2013 3:48 am i really loved korean historical dramas even if it takes a lot of my time just to finish watching it...while watching it i've to come search on history figures like Kim Chunchu and Kim Yushin. The actor Kim Yu Seok that portays Kim Yushin in this historical drama is very much lucky to have the role..Kim Yushin is a great general in Korean history and he really gave all his best to portray General Kim Yushin.I liked the way he acts much better than the actor from Queen Seondeok. He acts with the heart and you can see his eyes speaks too.The two young actors that portrays Chunchu and Yushin will also be great actors in the coming years.Thank you for making this historical drama.
chasuk Oct 16 2013 9:10 am Who is lady mishil here? Seems complicated. In queen seundok series, lady mishil was the villain and based on the history she was the queen that made seundok's life miserable. How come in this series it was queen seungman, king jinpyeong's 2nd wife. Where is mishil in this story?
Jammer Aug 18 2013 2:26 pm I wonder why Choi Soo Jong was selected and casted as Kim Choon Choo, he's simply a very dull actor his acting never improved at all. I didn't like him in Emperor of the Sea much more here as Kim Choon Choo. Thanks to Kim Yu Seok (Yusin) and Choi Cheol Ho (Bidam) for making this quite interesting.
bert santos Jun 13 2013 6:16 am I hope this drama to air on philipppine TV like jumong, queen seondeok & dongyi.
rilakkumalover May 19 2013 5:50 am I think the age thing is somehow unfit, but Kim Chunchu and Queen Seondeok's ages were close. I mean, actually, Seondeok's sister Chunmyung was quite elder than her and, that time, people had children early. Kim Yooshin was 9 years elder than Kim Chunchu. Choi Soojong (Taejong Muyeol) is 50 years old, which was the age of Taejong Muyeol when he ascended to the throne. They should've chosen younger actors after No Younghak and Chae Sangwoo went out of the show but I think that, for this time, the ages are nice. Except for Munmu, who should be younger than his father. But the history here is, now, more accurate than Queen Seondeok. Because Kim Yushin and Kim Chunchu were childhood friends, Queen Seondeok died before Bidam was killed, Kim Yushin married Kim Chunchu's third daughter, Kim Chunchu married Kim Yushin's younger sister and the real sucessor was Queen Jindeok. I'm not watching this because I adore it, but because it's an interesting drama and I love this part of the Silla history.
haena Apr 15 2013 7:51 pm Bidam is an excellent actor!! superb acting.
Hannah Mar 21 2013 3:33 am The story was so confusing when you compared it to Queen Seon Deok but still, GREAT!! I like the young ones!! :DD
Toyo Mar 20 2013 2:29 am Have watched Queen of Shilla, i hope it is as great as it.
Guk hee Mar 13 2013 3:19 am Why is it that the actor playing the role of Beopmin (adult) is too old ,he does not fit it at all, because his father(chunchu) is supposed to be younger than queen seonduk in real life,he's acting is not good either! They should put on a more younger man who's just around him! Also queen Seonduk died at the aged of 41 so it does not fit that everyone her supposed to be next of kin around are all too old! I've read about the history of queen seonduk ,Kim chunchu, Kim yushin and other main character of this drama before hand ,that's why it's confusing ,though I like historical dramas a lot !
Thobby Mar 03 2013 3:49 pm They are all our favourites ..lets just wait...I LOVE THIS MEN.
David Dec 02 2012 10:35 pm Plz Fix Pics. Thanks.
Imarie Sep 22 2012 11:45 am We can view this as a continuation of The Great Seondok series. It ended with the death of QSD> Maybe we will see ho Kim Chun chu succeded the throne and how they unified Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje.
Ghost Hee Sep 17 2012 4:38 am Yeah.. I was mistaken because the page stated her as "Queen Sundeok" before they corrected it. It's Queen Seondeok.
yoon shi yeon Sep 17 2012 1:47 am Queen seondeok has only two sisters, princess chunmyung and princess seonhwa..it means that queen sundeok is queen seondeok..
yoon shi yeon Sep 17 2012 1:35 am why is it that kim choo choo look older than queen sundeok,is queen sundeok here is the same as queen seondeok, because supposedly queen sundeok must be older than than kim choo choo, because choo choo's mother was princess chunmyung and chunmyung was queen seon duk sister...I can't understand..
chanty Sep 06 2012 7:28 am how come there's no Mishil here? maybe after she died in the real history,is the setting of KD..
Ghost Hee Sep 05 2012 11:34 am Yeah!! Korean historical dramas are always my cup of tea... Especially when it involves Shilla!! I loved Queen Seonduk. Queen Sundeok might be her sister, if I'm not wrong... I see the character Yoo-Shin is here too.. Man! This is what I've been waiting for!
