Sim Eun-Seok (Kim Hye-Soo) is an elite judge with a personality that seems unfriendly to others. She hates juvenile criminals. Sim Eun-Seok gets assigned to a local juvenile court. There, she breaks custom and administers her own ways of punishing the offenders.

Bunni Jan 16 2026 4:06 am To the person that said show was "over-preachy" maybe it's bc the main character's child died with no justice served. Maybe she felt betrayed and hurt that other adults that run the law for children don't see the importance in teaching kids how the law works. Maybe that brought her to do things herself if others weren't gonna do it. Maybe she wanted to let these ppl know to their faces. Both adults and children. And moreover, the cases were based on real life so I don't really understand how knowing that would make you feel like the script was too psychological. When everything they said in the kdrama is true. Society looks over juvenile killers. We don't take them as seriously as with adults. The same ppl that say oh these adults are repeat offenders why would the judges give them the opportunity to continue to commit crimes. Are the same people that will look an article about a 5 year old child creating a massacre. The message was we should not overlook you offenders just bc they're young. Young people should not be overlooked whether. They did something really bad or really good bc they are the next generation. The story is meant to deeply explore themes not js show random children showcasing disturbing actions to look cool on screen.

Ji Oct 28 2024 5:41 am Just finished it. I appreciate that we could learn a lot about juvenile justice in South Korea from this. But I don't get why Judge Sim investigate like a detective would. Also, in some cases, there were attorneys present but in others there weren't. Is this optional? If it is, is it why the judge has to investigate the case by themselves?
The show itself is just okay, in my opinion. It's a waste of wonderful cast. I didn't expect LSM and LJE would share a role. I would so love to see both of them through the show. KMY also played such an ordinary character here. He could be replaced by any rookie actor and I wouldn't see the difference. Such a waste when we know how good of an actor he actually is.

Park Min Mar 09 2024 10:31 pm On one hand, it tackled some important complexities surrounding youth crime and the justice system. But on the other hand, it felt like it was hitting the viewers over the head with its message a bit too hard. They always found a way to end up being overly preachy. I guess that's part of the overdramatization? The drama had a handful of cases but these were presented in descending order, with each one being less appealing than its predecessor. I feel conflicted about some of the cast choices, but if we were to ignore that and only focus on the characters, the situation didn't look so bright either. By episode 6, they started to inject personal stories and affairs, but it was a bit too late to have proper development when the drama was just 10 episodes. In the end, it was a watchable law drama with some notable ideas but remained average until the end.
Whatever Dec 29 2023 12:48 am Kim Hye Soo's role is just too much. Being like her is not a justice. Actually she blocked future favorable outcomes out of her stubborness. Such individuals become a block in every part of the system. Sometimes one MUST be flexible for a greater good.
Jessica Oct 15 2023 11:59 pm Kim Hye-Soo did an exemplary performance as a judge. She has a very strong conviction in giving offenses. She portrayed as a detective just to go deeper into the case and I agree with her that if young offenders will not be punish on the crime they committed they will become a liability to the society. She portrayed a phenomenal role.
My first time to watch Kdrama and I really enjoyed watching all throughout the series. Great and terrific performances to all actors and actresses.

The cast was a solid 8/10 , My fav being Lee Sung Min who really stood out in every scene he was in . Kim Hye Soo was phenomenal in her part , and I can’t believe she’s over the age of 50+ . She been blessed with good looks for sure (AB) .
I loved The fact that this kdrama had mini Life lessons like “ The law does not protect all the victims “ which is in fact true throughout the globe. Highly Recommended Kdrama !!!!

She had to play Judge Sim who is hiding so much pain and bitterness, showing so much strength and wisdom, and she did it so well. Kim Hye Soo has a beautiful face, you just want to know more about her character, her facial expressions are 10/10, that’s why there’s so many close ups! Justice Is Served!
Dramarama Aug 29 2022 12:58 am Kim Mooyul reminds a little of Ong Seongwu, I like his character in this too! I feel like all the actors do a good job, I was particularly impressed by all the young actors playing children and teens in this drama.
The cases are compelling and heartbreaking. A lot of legal dramas deal with sensitive subjects, but my only criticism of Juvenile Justice is that some scenes are almost too graphic for me. For example I don't know that it was necessary for me to watch an extended scene of a bloodied child being beaten with a bat.

Angela Mar 31 2022 8:26 pm I liked how firm and strong Judge Shim's character. Her conviction in giving sentences to young offenders and showing them that what they did is punishable by law even though they are under age and have the right to be protected. It might be too harsh for some but kids nowadays are cunning so it is necessary to show what the law can do. And if she was taking the last case personally she could've ended it right there on the first trial. And the offenders' crimes in that case are no joke and they are showing no remorse in what they did. So I think what Judge Shim's way of showing and teaching this young offenders how the law works and handle things is right. She feels it, she feels everything but she never let herself be clouded by her emotions just because they are minors like Judge Cha. These youngsters still did commit a crime and they know it and some of them truly never change.
Aozora Mar 31 2022 5:57 am This is what happened when Kdrama makers are not forced into the 16 episodes template. They will deliver very good show to the viewers. I had no intention to watch this show as many kdrama were let-downs after All of Us Are Dead. But, this show is very good and intense, although there were some minus in ut, as in everything in life.
The only thing I do not like is how the main character went into a hospital at midnite to push the judge whose kid just escaped accidental death. Make no sense, considering she is a griefing mother herself. And, for heaven's sake, the case is not of death and life, also the senior judge is good person.
But, other than that, the show is good and made us - adults - wonder sometimes how we were once also teenagers.
The show also managed to brought its Joker as final villain with a lot of intensity.
All in all, it is an easy recommendation. Kudos to the show makers and casts.

I like how Judge Sim learned to be compassionate with young offenders with bad family backgrounds.
Please let Judge Sim and her ex-husband get back together in the next season!! ?
hihihello Mar 26 2022 12:57 pm Great drama. I watched this after Through the Darkness, and I don't know which is more disturbing. LOL All of the cases are heartbreaking and some really pissed me off. The fact that those cases are happening in real life, a lot of victims are suffering for others' wrongdoings, and all that.
Love how Judge Sim really cares for the victims and families, and this drama should really make us think as human beings.
Raise and educate the children properly, be kind to others, care and love one another, be compassionate. This world can be a better place if everyone does their own roles.

Terry Mar 19 2022 2:59 pm I didn't like Judge Sim's character in this series. It never seemed like she was doing what was best for anyone, just what she felt justice should be. Her own brand of justice. She said she didn't like juvenile offenders and she showed it by going above and beyond to ruin their lives. She may have thought she was teaching them a lesson but she was beating them into what she felt was the moral thing. From the very first case, she measured everything by her compass. The first case, the cops didn't do enough. The second one, the girl came to them for help and she still ended up hurt because the judge had to do it her way. The third one, she ruined the caretaker and 7 kids lives because she wanted to go enforce her justice. What she did to her supervisor was uncalled for and she knew it. He didn't respond how she wanted so she took him down. Then for her to do the exact same thing not even an episode and a half later. Her justice told her it was okay to stay with a case when you are personally involved only when it is her breaking the rules. I did notice she was as rebellious or confrontational with the new judge who put her in her place from the very beginning.
Jen Mar 14 2022 12:15 pm Big fan of Kim Hye Soo, so it was a no brainer to watch this, but it doesn’t mean I liked every series she was in (actually, all her series were really good). I am just on episode 3 now. So far, not a bad series. The first 2 episodes didn’t draw us in - perhaps some things got lost in translation and so, although logic-wise things made sense, reality-wise it did not make sense. Such as a judge not recusing herself from a case for being biased from the get-go, and that’s just one example. But episode 3 was good! Kept us at the edge of our seats! Some parts throughout the first 3 episodes were so satisfying too, like proving the delinquent actually DID steal a wallet. Many of the satisfying parts didn’t go very long before something was revealed either, so you didn’t have to wait a whole episode or the next to find out the judge’s intentions or reasonings or plans. It was very satisfying every time she explained something or proved something in the end. Also, quite some brutal scenes. It really triggers something for some people.
I’m glad i can finally watch this series. Can’t wait to binge the rest!
Tomo Mar 13 2022 7:04 am The trailers make it look as if Lee Jung Eun is a main character, but she doesn’t appear until the end of ep. 7, which was disappointing! I liked ep. 4-5 the best with amazing performance by Yum Hye Ran. As a whole series, I’d give it 7.0/10. I usually like how Netflix series are nice and short with 8-10 episodes, but for this drama the regular 16 episodes might have worked better.

It was actually the climax and the crime they commited was so f****** aweful and disgusting, yet it only took one eps to finish it. Even it didn't show how judge Na collected all those evidences and what effort she did for this particular case, which refered back to her decision 5 years ago. The last case seemed way too smooth and easy to handle, while the complexity of the crime and the criminal was so high level.
Also, we saw the characters development of judge Kang and judge Na, and judge Shim at the very end while she was giving her speech. They showed that judge Shim attended the session with the girl from her previous case. Although, it really seemed too short. However even worse, I didn't see any character development from judge Cha, what a shame.

While Korean centered, this drama is relevant in every country where hopefully it will stimulate much discussion related to juvenile justice. The chosen stories were realistic, poignant & just representative of what’s out there. Not a bit was melodramatic but real as those in the field know…there are many heroes out there doing this work day in & day out. Starting with the screenwriter Kim Min-Seok who has created a meticulous well researched script of integrity to the Director Hong Jong-Chan who delivered a riveting nuanced film coaxing the best out of an outstanding cast to all of the casting folks who brought exceptional chemistry to this work…thank you. Of course we get to this sterling cast. Who else but Kim Hye-Soo could have inhabited this challenging role with such power & distinction. Kim Moo-Yul, Lee Sung-Min & Lee Jung-Eun excelled in their roles giving balance to the team. The supporting cast were individually so unique I’m still researching each & every one of them. My respect to all who take the time to write reviews but I would hope full appreciation be given to the subject matter as well as artistic value of this very important work. Kudos to the Korean film industry that has developed such talent in all the right places to produce such a relevant international work like this. Don’t miss it. Ah…my one disappointment was the meager subtitles at times in English. This drama’s dialogue was especially important as almost no other drama as philosophy, emotions, complex debate was being presented. A thoughtful audience wants to hear it all. Not sure what Netflix’s arrangements with translators are but it’s time you list them and oversee a full translation….like in professionalize in all manner the worth of your translation services.
Tune Nix Mar 08 2022 10:30 am I was with Judge Sim's decisions in every case except the last one. She's supposed to be this brilliant judge that outclassed everyone and earned the monicker Judge Max. She should have recused herself from the last case at the onset, reading the name of her son's killer on the case report. Any decision she would have made on that one would certainly have been challenged if not tossed outright because of conflict of interest. Even her ex-husband warned her. She kept insisting it wasn't personal but it really, really was.
I was wondering if there was a chance the perpetrators in the last case could be tried as adults. In the US and some European countries, underage offenders of heinous crimes could be charged as adults even some as young as twelve. The perpetrators in the last case were about 16 years old but they were already serial rapists, blackmailers, pornographers, batterers.
Aren't there any other defense lawyers? Attorney Heo seems to have a monopoly on defending rich kid offenders.
Zhining Chin Mar 08 2022 12:46 am It is very difficult to be a fair judge for juveniles, particularly in the current modern society. Too many adults become the ones they are following. When the parents lost their abilities to educate their child, the society can hardly carry the full responsibilities for them. This movie tells the stories vividly, clearly reflects the truth. The judges, particularly, Sim Eun-Seok, is an excellent judge who tried very hard to educate these juveniles through Justice system in South Korean. The main actress: Kim Hye-Soo did a great job. She always play such a role in movies related to law. Great movie, and thank the team provide such a significant social issue, and gave people much to think about it. Please have season 2.

By not recusing herself at the outset she was imperilling the whole process from the start.
If she was so desperate to see justice done there is no way she'd have remotely taken that risk.

Goodjob netflix for portraying juvenile crime case in court with great acting and plot! Character development was rational for the judges and children there, ughh wanted to rewatch it again

Unfortunately, Kim Hye-Soo is not able to play out her character well enough and make the whole show almost unbearable to continue. Despite most of her script carry very strong sense of justice and righteous. She read her script with very strong emotion (anger) which is not moving and convincing. The Devil Judge, on the other hand, did not have much focus on the storyline than Juvenile Justice, but the focus on the two main casts can make you feel wow. Juvenile Justice is still worth watching and at least Lee Sung-Min is playing his character with standard. On episode 4, the way he speak, reprimand, and pass judgement carry the style of the character.

Lee Mar 04 2022 10:43 am i like this series so much but.. i dont like Cha Tae-Ju's character. soo weakkkkkk and has no ballzzzz.. not sure why he exist... then there's Judge Sim Eun-Seok...i like her character...BUT she's too nosy for a Judge. She keeps on investigating the case like a Detective... going to houses and chasing criminals and all. whaaaaaat... i have been watching series like this but never have i seen a judge character who goes houses and chase criminals out of nowhere....
From what i have seen from other dramas like Your Honor (Yoon Si-Yoon's character) he's also a judge in that series but i dont see him running around messing other people's business. he just studies the case and make judgements based on the paper on hand.. not like Judge Sim.

WOW!..and isn't the last scene also Baek Seong-u? I wasn't sure.....and where was this court...was it the supreme court? I can hardly wait to see season 2...I personally think that that team of dads will reappear and I bet they like the juvenile system so they can make kids do crimes for them....I love the writers...I only wish the husband had sneaked into the courtroom through the other door and sat in the back there for that trial...he should have been written into the scene there for his boy especially because the same judge was ruling...

From script to directing and acting, all perfect although it has some flaw such as a judge catching criminal and looking for evidence themselves but other than that everything is good. I love kim hyesoo acting, she's so cool and sparkling with authoritative aura, eventhough her character sometimes make me annoyed because she's too idealist but maybe a judge in real life should be like her, too?
Anyway, i'm shocked that all cases based on real cases in Korea. Not gonna lie it was mad mad when i discovered that teens in real life could doing hideous crime like these.
This drama is full of criticism to society and morale value. Everyone should watch this drama, asap!!!! Very recommended!!!

... Feb 26 2022 11:25 pm Watching this of course for the QUEEN Kim Hyesoo and she never disappoint.. her character here is completely different from hyena but also charismatic as well.. the plot is so good and unpredictable (judge shim is unpredictable as hell)
And love to see shim dal gi from shadow beauty, she is so young but able to deliver emotion even reach viewers emotion.. she is the best cameo in this drama... I never experienced abusive parent but thanks to her powerful acting it felt like I was abused by myself

(I watched it 6 times!) with Kim Hye-Soo (I loved Signal) , Hyun Bong-Sik and Kim Young-Ah, (and I love Court Lady Han in the Mystic Pop Up Bar which I have seen 3 times, (Hope I didn't miss anyone else..) And Kim Joo-Hun From IOTNBO, DODO, 60 Days, and Start Up! And I loved Lee Sung-Min in Misaeng..and Lee Jung-Eun (Camelia and ChaCha) Looking forward to enjoying this new show....(But I am sure I will watch Hyena again. It is my favorite!)

Its refreshing to see a drama talking about juvenile justice in Korea but in such human way. My favorite episodes are ep 1 and ep 8 (I cried, I got angry, I got sad, I felt conflicted....)
Give it a try! 9/10

I also liked how they let go those bully kids showing like not every case is success. Was good and I stayed glued for whole drama. But still Hope it goes successful so i can watch season 2.
Snail Feb 26 2022 2:11 am I just finished binge watching Juvenile Justice today and to be honest, it's not that good and not that bad either. I've been anticipating this show ever since they released the teaser so I expected this to be longer — having 12-16 episodes at least. It was very fast paced, not that it's a bad thing but I would've enjoyed it if it was longer. I'm actually getting headaches with the main lead's impulsive actions idk but it was understandable anyways. I enjoyed watching this and how they unravel different crimes young offenders commited. Still can't believe young children do such things nowadays. Great acting from Kim Hye-Soo as expected from her. She always did a great job portraying every role given to her.
9/10, you can actually learn tons of life lessons from this drama and that's what I appreciate the most. Kudos to everyone in this drama!

Michael Black Feb 25 2022 10:34 pm This was pretty good but not great through 2 episodes i do find it far fetched and hard to believe that Judges would go this far looking into a case even trying it in court, i also dont think i 13 year old butchers someone and gets released because of age, cant see that happening even in Korea. Kim Hye-Soo was her normal greatness in her acting ability but sad to see her looks are fading quickly but i watch her mostly because of her acting ability This was for Netflix which means they paid for it so im putting some of the blame on them for not insuring better quality products coming to there site, this has to many writing flaws to be a NETFLIX series, do a Asian series but hire a non-Asian writer
