Jang Man-Wol (IU) is the CEO of Hotel del Luna. The hotel is situated in downtown in Seoul and has a very old appearance. She made a big error many years ago and, because of this, she has been stuck at Hotel del Luna. She is beautiful, but she is fickle, suspicious and greedy.
Koo Chan-Sung (Yeo Jin-Goo) worked as the youngest assistant manager ever at a multinational hotel corporation. He is a sincere perfectionist. He looks level-headed, but he actually has a soft disposition. Due to an unexpected case, he begins to work as a manager at Hotel del Luna. The hotel's clientele consists of ghosts.

I think there are more actors who would be better suited to the role of the main actor. The story is good but the casting was wrong so no award was received.

I watched Hotel del Luna (HDL) for the first time when it aired on TV in 2019 and rewatched it 6 more times until now and for me, personally, it is the best series out there even after 3+ years. I think everyone has a movie or a show that changed their life in a way or another, that made them view some things differently. For me, HDL is that show. It made me see existence in another manner and also made me want to make a career in filmmaking.
Just as existence is a subjective thing, so my review is also subjective, so feel free to rate it as you wish. Now I'll tell you why I think HDL is a timeless tv series.
1. The Story: The story is timeless because it is not based on ephemer things or events, it is based on existence and time, two things that remain relevant even after thousands of years. It is told in a very philosophical and stylized manner that challenges the viewer, because neither existence nor time are easy to understand so why a story about these 2 concepts would be made easy to comprehend? Metaphors and figures of speech play a big role in this series, because almost every piece of dialogue that is crucial for the plot contains lots of these. That's why, in order to understand the story, it is very important to make the connections between what the characters say and what they really mean. I found this story's structure to be very similar to a 3 act structure that is mostly seen in movies. The first act begins with a flashback that shows us the protagonist, Jang Man Wol (JMW), and the motive behind her position as a CEO at the hotel and it continues with Goo Chan Seong (GCS) 's father who ends up giving his son to JMW in order to save his life. More or less, these first ~40 minutes are here to establish the 2 protagonists, the why behind their presence here, the main location, the main theme: existence and time and the Moon Tree: a symbol of time, life and death. This first act continues until the 2nd episode, somewhere around the 55 minute mark. In this period of time we discover the world of the dead through the eyes of GCS, we see it like a scary place full of scary and terrifying looking people. It's something new for GCS and so it's for us, the viewers, that's why this first act leans more to a horror genre. But everything changes when we enter the second act, which begins when manager No changes GCS's perspective on the world of the dead and he makes the decision of joining the hotel as a manager. We start seeing this new world like everything else, it becomes more 'normal', we understand that the dead people are still like us, the only difference being that their time has stopped flowing. GCS's journey begins in this act, in the 3d episode, when Mago puts the flower that dreams of the moon inside of him. This flower is like a helping hand from Mago even though JMW sees it as a bad thing, that will end up ruining all her plans. We see the first dream of GCS which reveals a side of JMW that is in full contrast with how is her in the present time. The 3rd episode also reveals another important character, Kim Yoo Na (KYN), that will play an important part in the main subplot of the series, along with Ji Hyun Joong (JHJ). Even though KYN's story may seem random for some people, through the dialogues we can find out that KYN is just like JMW: is a person that pays a very high price, a person who is tied up in a place from where she cannot escape. And the last thing about this episode is that it ends with one of the most beautiful comparisons that will reappear in the last episode, the comparison between JMW and the Baekdu Tiger, that foreshadows the end of her story. An important thing to notice from now on is that every subplot that has to come is not random at all, every one of them has a contribution to the main plot, for example: - the subplot about the blind girl that wants to find the baker; it refers to JMW that also is waiting for the person that she loved the most in her past. It seems that she is waiting for him in a romantic way, but in reality she only wants to find him so that she can destroy his soul. - the subplot about the girl in room 13; it discusses a very important topic: the fairness of the gods, something that JMW doesn't believe in (because of her long punishment). Here we get to see how souls are destroyed by Mago and how JMW may end up. -the subplot with the bride; in this part we get to see one of the show's themes: Courage ("You need more courage to let go than to hold on"), the red string and the pair of scissors: a symbol for destiny that will play a big role in the final episode. - plus other smaller subplots that have the purpose of revealing character traits, etc, that don't necessarily affect the main plot but define the characters. Don't confuse these with filler subplots, because they still have a pretty big purpose. In episode 8, the past and the present start mixing up. We are introduced to Lee Mi Ra (LMR), the first connection brought up by GCS and the most hated person by JMW. We get to see her painful past and thus understand the reasons behind her actions. This whole scene is building up to the midpoint of this series. The midpoint is when GCS is abandoned by JMW and has to decide whether to take the medicine that will take his ability of seeing ghosts or not. This is the point of no return for him, because once he commits he has to finish the mission given by Mago, even if he could be killed ("The results are not given by the deities, they're given by humans. It has always been the same''). Also, in this part we get to see who protects who. Even if JMW seems to be stronger than him, he is the one that always protects her. Even when he was almost dead because of that potent curse, he protected JMW from vanishing, not vice versa. The second half of the 2nd act begins when GCS makes his decision of going back to the hotel and not taking the medicine, in the 9th episode. In the same episode, the story of Seol Ji Won (SJW) starts (another important subplot) and we also see the story of the Deity that guards the well, which has the scope of reminding us the stakes, GCS's biggest fears: seeing JMW vanishing. In episode 10 happen many things, Yeon Woo (YW) 's and LMR's paths cross and they become lovers (from enemies in the past), because of Mago and JMW gets to see him too after a very long time; the story of SJW continues and we see how bad a person he is; GCS sees his mother for the first time, but as a ghost and also we get to see the book "Being and Time" by Martin Heidegger (which, I think, is also one of the things that inspired this show). The next episode brings up the story of GCS's friend, Sanchez, a story that will play a big part in the end (I'll explain later). This episode reminds us of one of the themes, that of courage. You'll see that the scene with Sanchez and Veronica is pretty similar to the scene with JMW and GCS at the end, both pretend to be strong in front of their loved ones and try to hold back the tears so that their partners won't be even more heartbroken. The 12th episode is a special one because we get 2 very meaningful scenes: - the first one, about the Sanchez and Veronica and the child whose life was extended by his parents subplots, where we get to see why GCS chooses in the end to let JMW go to the afterlife, instead of making her drink the wine again (because he doesn't want to extend JMW's life just for his sake), and why he left Korea (because he didn't want to end up like Sanchez, he didn't want to make 'dumb' things for his lover that passed away). In short, he doesn't want to become like the people JMW hates the most. - the second one, the dialogue at the end of the episode, makes us realize that GCS will be the only one that will remember JMW's existence, in this lifetime. This is because the 'petals are falling over him', where the petals mean nothing else than JMW's memories, her life. Episode 13 brings some twists, especially in the JMW's beliefs. She learns that you don't feel better by watching your enemy die in pain (thing that will influence the climax in ep. 14) and, at the end of the episode, she questions whether GCS is Go Chung Myung (GCM) 's reincarnation or not. This whole battle that is in JMW's head makes her weaker and changes her a lot, especially in the first half of episode 14 where she kills GCS in her thoughts. The climax is at the end of the 2nd act. It's the moment when GCS saves JMW and tells her how she can finally be at peace. Listening to the other side of the story was the key to continue her life. In other words, she took the wrong path in life when she was so eager to take revenge, fact that lead her to being stuck in time, and the only way to resolve this was to, metaphorically speaking, turn back the time (that's what GCS helped her do) and see the other point of view. The climax is straight to the point and does not prolong the things (some say that it fell short, but I think it had just the perfect length, because their story together was in the past and it's no use in having a long present time scene too). The third and final act begins after JMW is freed by Mago. In the last 2 episodes we get to see the stories of the JHJ, Kim Seon Bi (KSB) and Miss Choi. Everyone ends up emptying their grudges and leaving to the afterlife in peace. This 3rd act has an acceptable duration, of ~2h, which is more or less 10% of the duration of the series, because it doesn't cause ending fatigue (in my opinion). The final episode ends the first main subplot, the story of JHJ and KYN, and it overall leaves the viewer with a feeling of emptiness. We get to see the scissors again and we realize that GCS and JMW are still connected. Plus, in the scene where they see the winter together, they rotate clockwise around the tree, a fact that means that they traveled in a future where they are together, not in the past. The ending scene at the library brings back the comparison between JMW and the Baekdu Tiger and we realize that we had the answer to her story all along. And finally, the scene where they’re in the park together, is purely GCS’s imagination. Notice that the look of the location is very similar to that of the painting (lots of natural elements, sunny day, and JMW who comes at GCS just like the tiger did when he entered the painting) and the voice over dialogue who is saying that they wish to meet in a future life (we know that they will meet, because Mago told us that when JMW crossed the bridge). (No comments about the cameo since it doesn’t affect the story, sorry :)) )
2. The audio: The music is timeless because there are not only songs sung by various artists, but there are also melodies without lyrics, which in my opinion can touch the viewer’s soul even more. Simple melodies without lyrics can survive longer periods of time due to their simplicity. HDL makes perfect use of the 12 OSTs and the BGMs. They combine them in such a way that it becomes easy over time to remember some scenes just by hearing the melody play. Most of the time there will be a BGM playing instead of an OST because BGMs amplify the actor’s performance and emotions better, while OSTs tend to ‘distract’ the viewer’s attention sometimes. One of the main soundtracks is Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’ that was beautifully remixed so that it can blend into the story. ‘Moonlight Sonata’ is a leitmotif for JMW’s story and it plays about every time when we get to see JMW and the moon together, or JMW and GCM. Also, I have to include in this section the dialogues. They’re very differently mixed compared to other series (from what I’ve heard), they’re very isolated from the ambient sound and sound so crystal clear.
3. The cinematography: The look of HDL is timeless mainly because of lighting and color grading. The fantasy story gives permission to the cinematographer to push the look to an extent where not many series are able to get, because the scope is not to make something that looks and feels real, the scope is to make something that looks stunning and fabulous. (I found it funny in some way, that the colors are so vivid, yet the story is centered on the world of the dead :)) ) The lens choices, the camera angles and compositions are always on point. The close ups transmit lots of emotions, the wide angles perfectly show the beautiful sets and the dutch angles… they contain so many more emotions that the standard close ups.
4. The actors and their performance: The acting is timeless because of the direction this series took. Almost every line of dialogue is said in a formal, solemn tone, that suits the theme of existence and time the best. Ji-Eun and Jin-Goo played their role beautifully and managed to remain as a memorable couple. I want to specify here why GCS is the ‘better fit’ for JMW to GCM’s detriment. GCM made JMW be punished for 1300 years, he wanted to be together with her even if he knew that it was a dangerous thing, he put himself first and thus risked everyone’s life. He is the opposite of GCS. GCS put JMW first and even if he wished to be together with her in this lifetime he knew that it would be painful for her to continue living like this, he took care of her and did everything even if he knew he was in danger. By letting her go, he won her back. That is the difference between GCS and GCM: courage. ("You need more courage to let go than to hold on").

This is an amazing work of art, so so beautiful, a mixture of operetta and poetry, profound philosophical meaning and light hearted heart warming emotion. I stand in awe! Even if it was twice as slow I would savour every moment infinitely!

This is the first kdrama I've seen that excelled on both make-up and wardrobe. The consistency was kept throughout...bravo!
We all know how kdramas end so I won't even mention that, but when the plot was good, it was really good. The cast was also phenomenal, a d they made-up for most of the problems in the storyline with their brilliant acting.
It was a memorable watch for me (8/10)
Penggemar Asing Sep 18 2022 8:07 am Hotel De Luna is a heart warming romantic comedy centred around an unlikely pair; a 1000 year old ghost bound by her deep grudges Jang Man-Wol, and a young hotel manager Koo Chan-Sung whose future was given in exchange for his father’s life. The story starts off light heartedly but quickly delves into heavier themes, as we see the things some ghosts experiences before their deaths. The show alternates between these sides to show the growing connection between the main leads, and slowly reveal the dark past of Jang Man-Wol. Along the ride there are numerous subplots that flesh out the supporting cast of hotel staff and Koo Chan-Sung’s friends which also progress the main plot indirectly. The final episodes are quite touching, as we see how forgiveness and love can heal our deep mental scars and allow us to move on. Overall, the watching experience was filled with light warm moments and a few suspenseful ones. It’s a healing show that I recommend people watch, especially those weary from kdramas filled with non-stop deceit and betrayal.

SarahBelle Aug 20 2022 10:10 pm I won’t say this is one of the best k-dramas. It took me two tries to get through the very first episode because I found it very slow moving. However, I stuck with the show until the end.
I don’t think that the actual story in itself was particularly special. But the actors, especially IU, did an amazing job bringing life to the script. I thoroughly enjoyed the cinematography… it was very aesthetically pleasing. Obviously, I was also obsessed with IU’s outfits.
Aside from that, while I think the show had its good moments and I found it very entertaining, I wouldn’t say I was particularly drawn into it. Sometimes the episodes and plot points would drone on. And there wasn’t anything really surprising in the story overall.
Raph chinnie Aug 15 2022 3:52 pm I don't know why the drama is overrated,a friend of mine introduced this movie overhyping it,I felt glad to watch IU after seeing her in Moon Lovers,but when I started it,it was so dull,I still continued even till episode 8,i still don't get it interesting,I think it's because of the male lead that is why I am not enjoying it when he filmed my absolute boyfriend I started hating him,my friends kept wondering why I don't like it knowing fully well that I find every kdrama that comes my way interesting but this time around it was bad,I saw my Lee Joon GI only in episode 3,it would have been better if he was the male lead.
Luna Aug 11 2022 7:41 am I think about the scriptwriter who wrote this. It feels like underneath the surface of this fantasy story, it’s really about how a person shutting up her heart after a trust issue/betrayal from her lover. The break up broke her. After a very long while she met another man but was wary of accepting it. She had been living a long time wallowing in the hurt, and instead of being a loyal and brash girl who acted on impulse she had grown into a cold and calculative person on the surface. The new man reminded her of the last and she wondered if she should reach out for another chance in love. And when things seemed to be heading up, she realised that her first lover was always there, watching her without her knowing.
I am very touched every time I think of this concealed story.
Unfortunately the drama is ruined by very bad acting by the non-leads. If you can overlook a bad supporting cast, this drama is still enjoyable.
Miena Jul 24 2022 5:35 am I like the synopsis and casts. It’s catchy till the end, not boring at all. IU, she’s so pretty with all beautiful dresses, I really like her costume. The acting of IU and Jin Goo is so good especially they look good together. The end scene is the most practical, the director chooses the right choice. It’s so touched, even they are not together at the end but they can meet in the dream because they dearly love each other.

the score and the color helped you calmed down, IU is also there to reassure you feel safe and comfortable.
I think this is number 1 drama, nothing is like this. If you like the concept of karma, reincarnation like a devout Buddhist, you can understand this drama better.
I really like Sageuk sequences, LeeDoHyun stole the scenes. IU is the main carry. YeoJinGoo will make you laugh
the OST is so good, some of them are like Disney vibes, that's why this show is magic

This is a perfect example of how you make an emotional sad ending feel like a hopeful, good-feeling ending. IU was incredible, and cast, production, screenplay and direction did a great job. This was a big production with a complex story. The last episode left me emotionally-drained, and sad to see the end of the drama. I'll just have to watch it again. IU is added to my list of favorite korean actresses.

I'm not into ghosts/scary films, but IU and Yeo Jin Goo are great and the story overcomes the scary parts such that I'm not frightened at all, but rather moved emotionally by the storyline. The music has made me using tissues already in touching scenes. IU has been added to my list of favorite korean actresses, that gets longer and longer the more korean dramas that I watch. I'm not into fashion but IU's beauty along with beautiful dresses and fashion are stunning.

Nevertheless outstanding acting of all the characters, IU as always extremely pretty and great performance but i watched this drama of Yeo Jin Goo, to me a great talent even though he is so young of age. And i was not disappointed, again he nailed it, stunning looks and great acting.

Actually, I believe Seo Yea-Ji would of done a better job at playing Man-Wol. If you haven't seen her watch "It's Okay, Not to be Okay" Outstanding Drama. I never start a drama expecting anything, everyone is different and of course some better than others. I agree IU's wardrobe was out of this world. I thought the best acting came from P.O. I would recommend this Drama for all to see, but, can see why many of you didn't finish it. I don't believe this drama is in my top 100 viewed. But, just one person's opinion. Well, it's on to "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha", now that an Actress. :)
Timothy Sep 13 2021 5:33 am I saw this pop up on Netflix, and I remembered hearing that it was quite popular while it was airing. Plus, IU as the lead? Count me in. I started watching immediately, and I'm glad that I did. Now, I do agree with a lot of the other posts about the plot becoming a bit repetitive in the middle and the leads maybe not having the most spectacular chemistry. I think with improved pacing and some rearranging of certain plot points, the writers could have elevated the romantic tension and made the middle episodes feel more dynamic and surprising. That aside, the overarching storyline was so beautifully rendered and portrayed, and there were so many poignant moments and scenes that had me brimming with emotions. I loved all of the central characters, and IU especially was absolutely stunning, both her acting and her visuals. I binged the entire series this past week and I loved it so much, and I think you will, too, if you give it a chance.

I only continued watching it for IU and her outfits and her scenes with her first love. jingoo is a good actor ( i don't think anyone will disagree with that) but I don't think he was right for the role. his best scenes are the scenes when he is not trying to delivere romantic lines ( his breaking down scene? amazing! his acting when the ghost posssed him? AMAZING) but his delivery in romantic scenes were flat & i just didn't believe him. chang sung is already a boring character and his lack of chemistry with IU just made it worst. lee dohyun in the other hand, stood out for me in this drama. chung myung is a coward & i don't think we meant to like him but leedohyun made me fall in love with his character. the way he looked at IU the whole drama, i was in ' aww' their chemistry just have this 'sparke' it's beautiful, passionat, electric and I love everyscene of them together. even tho I shipped them, i didn't want them to end together because duh but i hoped for at least a final conversation between them. they both waited 1300 for each other ( one to kill him , the other to explain himself) i wish they talked, i wish we saw IU's character going through some angst when she realize that the firefly was him all along. i wish there were more angst in this drama tbh but this is obviously just a preference. i didn't like how all the ghosts in the hotel cleared their grudge in the 2 last ep. i wish one of them went away in the middle of the show so we can feel sad about them. i have lot of opinions about this show but overall, it's an average show. the good side about it is the acting, the outfits, the music, the production, IU's beauty. everything about this show look beautiful & rich

I don't feel any spark between the leads and i ended up wanting to see lee do hyun more also mina and p.o too. And the ghosts storylines were also fun but like i've seen so many shows with them hwayugi,master's sun so it wasn't that much of an amazing experience for me, and how the usual fantasy k-drama plotlines go i.e one of the main leads has to die is also not enjoyable anymore, not sure if the plot was kinda predictable or boring but yeah it went within that flow. IU's fashion was killer but that's the only thing i end up remembering whenever i think ab this show. The osts though are suberb

k-addict May 26 2021 3:27 pm The drama caught my interest because of the cameo of Kim Soo-Hyun in Ep 16. I played with the thought to watch only the last episode, but dropped that idea after hearing many times that IU's wardrobe is amazing in here and watched from beginning till end. I was bummed that KSH appeared only for 30 sec after the credits, but at least these did not disappoint xD.
Anyway, IU's wardrobe is absolutely stunning, as is her performance, which is a good reason for you to watch it. As many of the commentators have mentioned, i didn't find the chemistry between OTP here that gripping either. Overall, I don't think Hotel del Luna is a love drama. If you don't treat it as such and therefore don't have any expectations towards that, but regard it as touching stories about a hotel that takes care of its guests - unsatisfied souls - and helps them to make it to the other side. This in an incredibly aesthetic and very fitting setting, great CGI, a thoroughly likeable cast and beautiful OST and as mentioned gorgeous dresses (huge applause for the creative team of this show!).
If Chan Sung’s relation with Man Wol would have been designed completely platonic the drama would have been perfect.
Jimmy May 15 2021 11:48 pm Hotel del Luna is no doubt the best K drama in ghost/spirit related story. Ever since i finished watching this, i tried to find a similar fantasy type drama like this, but none ever give me the same satisfaction.
Man Wol and all the main hotel's staff that bring the story from scary, loveable, laughable and cryable. Everybody has dark past and bad memories, but the drama doesn't show condemnation, except for the evil spirits.
My suggestion is that you pick 10 dramas with fantasy/ghost related to watch including Hotel del Luna, but save Hotel for the last, because it is always nice to save for the best. Otherwise, your disappointment for other movies will be very huge. Just my two cents.

NH Apr 14 2021 1:28 am Spoiler: This drama kind of remind me of Master's Sun, as the main point of the hotel is to help ghosts with unfinished business. I love the dark pasts of all hotel staffs. They were all painful memories.. one thing that lacks from this drama is lovey dovey scenes of Man Wol and Chan Sung. They were super cute. Should have included a few more cute scenes. But the ending is so sad. Sad, but that's how it should ended. I mean she needs to go for her to move on.. i think they should include a clip of their reincarnation where they are together. Lol i just love them so much.
IU's wardrobe is also unforgettable, they were all gorgeous. IU is so pretty too, her hair, makeup etc..

The main cast IU and Yeo jin goo do a marvelaus job along with other characters. I really love to the music of this drama. Osts are really fabulous! Specially punch 's 'Another day'. I really recommend this series to those who love fancy series as a kdrama lover. Try watch this! This may kill your boredom! Fighting!!!

Nikki Apr 07 2021 8:35 am If you do not like fantasy k-dramas this is not for you. I will give this k-drama a rating of 7/10. It was a decent k-drama, but definitely overhyped and overrated. The cast did a fantastic job but the storyline was a bit meh. Would I re-watch this k-drama? No. There were some emotional scenes and we could see each character's development and even though this is supposed to be a romantic k-drama there was not much of romance. If I remember correctly there was one kiss scene. I expected a kiss scene at the end which I think would make the ending more emotional and better because the ending was not so great. The first few episodes was fun to watch then it got a bit repetitive with the ghosts. Overall, 7/10.
The OSTs for this K-drama were top tier 10/10.

MT Dec 21 2020 11:32 am first of all, sorry for my bad english. so after reading a couple of comments you guys have written, i just realized that i wasn't the only who stopped at eps. 8/9! but because i really love IU, a couple of months later, i decided to continue the drama and lemme tell you something: I Tried So Hard To Finish It. i accidentally saw a stunt man, i saw some of the crews closing the door? i know it's just a drama, and nobody is perfect but how could they made it so carelessly!! the plot is good, but you might need to try hard to not get bored. their acting are pretty good. tbh the reason why i wanted to watch this drama was because (like i said) i'm a fan of IU. so don't get me wrong, I Can't Take My Eyes Off her. unfortunately, the carelessness of the crews were so.....bad!!

Every scene is so long it's super boring. Kdramish songs are super annoying as well. Like, directing is just very bad. No matter what "misteries" are in it, it all just doesnt work for me, and I couldnt take it after episode 7 somewhere. The Goblin series had some kind of similarity in its basis, yet still managed to handle the topics of death and all that after life things MUCH better and more gently, yet giving it a feel of something massive, while here... I dont know. So much of shots with just two characters in it. I feel like only 10 people are living in the world of this drama. It's not true, but you got me. As I said earlier, feeling lifeless. Maybe it's directing. Although MLFTS was a masterpiece from the same director.

Reasons I dropped the drama (a review of what me and others thought):
1) got really boring in the middle; dont get it wrong the first few episodes were LITTT.
2) Not the plot line we had wished for; for me after 8-9 ep I felt like the drama wasnt going anywhere. with this drama being total of 16 ep surely by the 9th ep ; there should be some direction to the story.
3) the CGI was top notch but the plot was not and lacking in some way
4) held out for 9 ep hoping it would eventually get better ; but we was let down. just the same old ghost comes to the hotel, then the leads solve the problem and then unto the next ghost. I personally couldnt take that after a few ep of that cycle.
I kept it as real as I could; hopefully I havent hurt no ones feeling, and if u still reading this u a LEGEND!!!

First 20 mins of ep1 was good, thoughourly enjoyed it but the bullsh*t after was just terrible. Kickass female who's killed God knows how many people or ghosts with zero compassion for a 1000 years gets smitten by a completely smug dipsh*t within two days. He treat her likes he's her boss and she just goes with it?? Terrible bloody viewing and I'm male ffs I'm no feminist by any stretch but I can't believe for one second that 1000 year old female with her background would crumble so quickly into being a pathetic mess!

Yes, we saw their future in their new life, but they are not the same characters as before that reincarnation. So it means that it's very sad and heartbreaking for Chan-sung to live for his rest of his life alone without people he loved and cared before. This drama almost has the same formula as Goblin, making the main character live alone in the end being left by the person they loved the most. Please tvN, do another drama like this!

Those who think Jang Man Wol character doesn’t fit IU’s nice image doesn’t know how great her acting is. They should watch The Producer too to see IU as Cindy, another mean character.
Choosing Yeo Jin Goo as the lead is not a wise choice. He is a great actor but he looks quite young to play as Goo Chan Sung. The should cast someone a bit mature to play the character so that there’s no awkwardness romantic interaction between the leads.
The romance part, I guess the writer try to keep it minimal, as to focus on the storyline the most. Just like in any Japanese drama, you will see less interaction between the couple but you notice the feeling is there. I like it like that. Cause I couldn’t imagine IU and Yeo Jin Goo as the best couple, compare to IU-Lee Joon Ki, IU-Kim So Hyun and IU-Woo Young.

This show is very pretty to look at, has a fun idea, and has great actors, but I gave up after forcing myself to watch 2 episodes in hopes that it would get interesting eventually. The main girl is a bland and unlikable character. There is nothing quirky, interesting, or charming about her. She's pretty and that's it. The main guy is fine.
The show tries too hard to be serious. I think it would have worked better with more of a lighthearted atmosphere. They made a big dramatic send off for a guy who the audience barely knows. I saw him for a few minutes so I naturally am not emotionally connected to him and can't get into a big, long emotional goodbye.
Other people seem to like it. That's why I hung in there as long as I did. But it's just not for me. I don't want to be bored and forcing myself to watch something that just isn't interesting hoping with every episode it will finally become good.
If you like it then great! Lots of people do. Maybe you will as well.

There were moments where I cursed the Hong sisters, especially about how they resolved Ko Choeng Myung's character, but the last 2 episodes made up for them. Admittedly, I felt that they've gone lazy (once again. yeah, these sisters are really a hit or miss) in writing the second lead's ending as they did not want to overshadow the male lead, and that still feels true till today. The lack of scenes and physical comfort for KCM in his final episode shows that I might be true. How would anyone believe that the short time Man Wol and Chan Sung had together could outweigh the 1300 years Man Wol spent loving and resenting Choeng Myuk?! The writers made it look so easy to toss your one great love over someone new.
Oh well, you can't really blame the sisters for defending their ML. Like us, they might have not seen it coming that the second lead will be this series' scene stealer. They got to make Yeo Jin Goo shine brighter as much as possible, he's the seasoned actor after all. And props to the rookie Lee Do Hyun! He really took the main characters' spotlight whenever he appears. And he terribly crushed everyone's hearts with his sad ending.
Good thing the Hong sisters made up for that writing glitch by how they've beautifully weaved each of the ghosts' stories and how each one had a great resolution. Not every drama takes time to resolve each side character's story and this one has got to be the standard for how side characters should be given justice.
The cinematography, OSTs, outfits, cameos, and top-notch acting by everyone (except for Sanchez, lol, love you still, rich pizza guy), were all just bonuses to this masterpiece. It won't be a surprise if this would grab awards at Baeksang along with Crash Landing on You and When the Camellia Blooms. Top tier dramas of 2019 indeed! <3

Aya May 23 2020 8:16 am This drama has been on my "to watch" list ever since I heard about the premise, but surprisingly it took me this long to actually watch it. I enjoyed it very much. The setting, the imagery and the fantasy element were all beautifully done. I loved Jang Man Wol and although I initially thought that an older actress might have done better in the role (someone like Jun Ji Hyun or Gong Hyo Jin), but by the end of the drama I can't think of anyone better. Jang Man Wol is sassy and savage and somehow the contradiction with IU's angelic appearance worked wonderfully. With pain in my heart, I will admit though that Yeo Jin Goo was definitely miscast. It seems like a trend lately to cast really young actors in mature roles. Like Kim So Hyun in Radio Romance. Unfortunately, even though Yeo Jin Goo did a wonderful job, there is no way that he can give an aura of a close to 30 year old guy. Throughout the whole drama it felt like a high school student was pretending to be a manager. It's a pity, especially since the rest of the drama was so well cast. I absolutely loved Seo Yi Sook as Ma Go Shin.
Overall, the story is interesting and will definitely keep your attention for 16 episodes. There were a lot of funny moments and heartbreaking moments, so it's definitely not boring.
A lot of people seem to want a season two with Kim Soo Hyun and if it is made, I would definitely watch it. However, I don't think that it's absolutely necessary for the story and it will feel like a repeat instead of something fresh and new.
Agatha May 14 2020 8:48 am Don’t get me wrong, I like IU as an idol and an actress. However, in this series, her character annoys me at times. It’s like Jang Man Wol is not suited to IU’s image. The problem is not even the acting skills because she’s great. But, being so serious and holding so much grudge is not IU. I tried hard to appreciate JMW, but it just felt wrong. IMHO, Suzy or Lee Min Jung would have been a better fit.
Kudos to PO and Mina tho! I really love them. They helped me big time on holding on to this drama. Scenes are great too, especially those flash backs. ❤️

I even stop watching on eps 2, and watch other dramas. But i gave it another chance, bcs as an experienced drama lover, i knew that some dramas need times to you to feel the flow and some times it took more than 4 episodes. And yep it is! After i reached episode 5, it's good! I started to like IU now heheh. Better than Goblin and DOTS (imo).

elissia Dec 23 2019 5:26 am I cried 15 episodes straight, I love Cheong-Myung and Man-Wol so bad, they were meant to be, they are just ill-fated, my heart broke more than a thousand times for them, every flash-back is full of emotions for me, Cheong-Myung stayed by her side from the start to redeem himself, but i love Man-Wol and Chan-Sung too, he healed her in every way, which is awesome. UWU I love everything about HDL honestly. Just wanted to put it out there!

moonchild Dec 14 2019 6:48 pm everyone complaining about the lack of chemistry ? clearly didnt get the message. this drama wasnt about romance and man weol and chan seong being all lovey dovey and cutesy. it was about man weol and her only. discovering who she is, what she did wrong, accepting her faults and accepting her past, also loving who she is in the present and being able of letting go. her character development alone is enough to fill this drama. seriously give me one character that's like man weol. anyway I still felt the chemistry between man weol and chan seong, they had waaaaay better chemistry than most of the dramas in 2019 where the main aspect was romance but go off I guess. loved every scene they shared and loved how they helped each other grow as a person. definitely gonna rewatch this again, it was so good and every episode was interesting. kudos to the actors for portraying their roles so perfectly.

I just skip most of tge scenes just to finish the drama. To be honest i dont feel any chemistry between the main leads. Their perfirmance as individual is superb but i really do not feel any chemistry between them. What i really like about this drama is the end when kim soo yoon appeared. Just my opinion.

Alex Nov 16 2019 2:46 am I was loving the story until I discovered that Chan Sung is not the reincarnation of Cheong-Myung. I felt no chemistry between Man-weol and Chan Sung. I would have preferred for Man Weol to walk together with Cheong-myung through the bridge rather than going back. Though, Chan Sung is considered as a special “alive human” in the series, I think that there’s still no solid connection between him and Man weol (except for the part in Ep 16 where I think they ‘forced’ a connection when the kid who gave Man weol water was supposed to be Chan Sung... I mean what?) compared to Man weol’s more than 1300 yrs of connection with Cheong Myung and even Yeon-Woo. It just doesn’t made sense especially for someone who lived long like Man-Weol. But anyway, that’s only my side. All in all, it’s still a great story but a little poor in character build up. xx

IU is so pretty and they all did a good job with their acting ♥️
But there's also one person whom I fell in love with by watching this, the second male lead role, Lee Do- Hyun!!!!!!! I can't even express how much I loved his acting. I've watched three dramas since Hotel Del Luna but they all failed to give me the "feels" that I got after watching this drama. It's been almost two months already but I'm still stalking IU and Yeo Jin-Goo on Instagram, rewatching random episodes (I still laugh and cry each time) and listening to the drama's OST. Everything about this drama is perfect!!!

Hopefully they will consider doing Season 2 after teasing us with Hotel Blue Moon & cameo appearance of Kim Soo Hyun. the Creepy Hand in Yeo Jin Goo's arm in the poster was not a mistake come on the answer is really obvious Hotel del Luna is surrounded by ghost & am sure the graphic artist put it for fun but how come no one is talking about the skeleton at the window LOL. I really hope IU will win best actress in the drama she has done an excellent job portraying Jang Man Wol. FYI she wrote & sang a song for this drama in ep12 the title song is Our Happy Ending. What really needs to be answer: is the Vacuum Grim Reaper Collector different from Grim Reaper? Also I want to see the rest of God Mago. What shock me the most was the acting of David Lee the psycho killer character is really way different in his role Bring it on, Ghost was really unexpected. Also am happy that Cho Hyun Chul & Kang Hong Suk are becoming famous.

Lisa Oct 03 2019 12:37 am This is my first drama from the Hong sisters. Started it just out of curiosity but ended up being completely destroyed by it in the end. It's the kind that grows on you until you just realize that it has completely taken you over. Much credit to Lee Ji Eun (IU) and Yeo Jin Goo. They carried the story sooo beautifully. There's should be no second-lead(ing man) syndrome here. Chung Myung is merely a character to move the story forward, as sad his story may be (but whose wasn't). I guess some viewers found the actor cute (w/c he kinda is).

But this is incredible beyond my expectation. The plot is consistent and the acting ia awesome. The main roles can move my sense of humanity to feel sad and happy. Some parts of this drama made me smile and laugh. The music blends prefectly for each scene. Really recomended drama

The scene at tree takes most of the time not to mention how many times they repeat the same things. Punishment, deity plans, man weol rage all the same things on loop. Should be better with one hour I think.

It's just not fair the way they teased us with the new owner like that. We all know SooHyun is an amazing actor and the follow up season would be just as amazing. A second season would make soo much sense. Anyway, the whole cast was amazing and the way they finished up everyones storyline was really beautiful.

IU was gorgeous in this and the story development also develop well. The set, montage, story deliverance are all on point. I would suggest for people to watch it to see such an epic performance from all the crew and actors.
But still, I think not all are perfect. First of all the Man Weol storyline. She suffers all her life, her whole family was killed, then she had to receive punishment waiting to exact his revenge and been played by the deity throughout the 1,300 years only to be given a false sense of hope and lastly need to leave the man he love in the present day. I do think its unfair for her. However, I do understand what writer try to tell. About acceptance and forgiveness. This one just coming from me that I at least want to see some happy closure for her. But still I understand what the story want to tell.
I do find the plot a little bit weak somewhere. I started watching with an expectation it will be like the Master's sun. Then I get how the plot direction. Its more focused on the man weol past just like the pace of goblin if anyone can remember. Meaning all another ghost are just another simple details in the story. However, this is where i felt it started to felt draggy a little bit. If they want to focused on the past, they should tell more details or maybe more scene about the past, but they don't explain more. I swear the talking scene at the tree are taking a really lot of screen time.
Not to mention, the present moment when Man Weol met Chun Myung again, it just passed like that. I get that she forgives him, but at least make it more dramatic since she's been waiting for thousand years. Since they don't show much about the backstory of her past, I cannot felt any rage from man weol character. I don't understand why she hate mi ra so much since they never explain in detail what the princess did in the past and also her subplot with yeon woo.
Also for the ghost guest story, they make it so simple that I really hope for more. For example the seol ji wan story, I though he's supposed to be the villain but ended just defeated like that. Coming from the same writer as Master's sun, I hope they put the same thrill as the ghost stories from the drama, but I realised this story is more about man weol herself.
About the chemistry, I don't know since I never shipped them in the first place. Even after they get together, I think they focuses too much on man weol that make the chemistry kinda sizzle down.
All in all, it's a great drama, thanks for 16 episodes that make my weekend. Gonna miss all the actor especially beautiful IU.

Hotel Del Luna is a rare kdrama series I've ever watched that succeeds almost in every level, where each characters, costumes, scenes, effects firing to make this movie worth watching. I love all characters, their acting so great. IU has developed her acting and she is good, very professional. Same with Yeo Gin Goo, he is great actor, his acting is great but when it comes to romance scene, he seems like a robot. Kim Soo Hyun befits to this character. He is also great in acting and oppa. This Kdrama filled with amazing actors/actresses who truly make this film. Some scenes are hilarious, some scenes excite and thrill me where there were episodes that the two protagonist lacked their eye to each other. Rated high and excellent. Wishing Kim Soo Hyun will be IU next partner or more oppas who are prominent in the entire ASIAN to be seen in the next season. I would suggest the the story for the season two would be more romance with slight hilarious, the newly Hotel owner which is Hotel Blue Moon is rich and has character who will turn his heart to IU or it like beauty and the beast movie. That a man became a beast that IU would fall in love with the beast and became handsome after...etc...or a vampire falls in love with a ghost? Thank you for the director who made this movie worth watching. Overall, this is a great Kdrama I've ever watched.

And I feel the love triangle story to be very meh, I never cry whenever the love story get shown. Like, I couldn't careless who was Man Weol gonna choose between Chung Myung and Chan Seong. Someone already said the things I wanna said about Yeo Jin Goo's and IU's acting, about how robotic YJG and IU's tonality, I agree so much, might add they did improved as episode goes on. Unsurprisingly, the idols acting did get worse as the plot becoming more complex. But, they were still pretty tolerable for me. Mrs. Choi and Mr. Kim's acting are superb, no question about that, I love them the most tbh.
The main strength of Hotel del Luna for me, is the stories of the ghosts. I legit only cry for the ghosts stories. I'm also super thankful that the other three hotel staffs got their disclosure in the end. I LOVE how deep their stories, especially Mrs. Choi's, I cried so hard on her story, I think both of hers and Mr. Kim's stories could still be relevant in today's society. This part of Hotel del Luna reminds me so much of Master's Sun, and I think would be the thing that set apart Hotel del Luna with Goblin.
For the possible season 2, Hotel Blue Moon, someone said it will probably just a copy of the season 1, I personally disagree, since it opens in the modern day, it most likely wouldn't have any veteran ghosts as hotel staffs like Hotel del Luna, and probably have the plot to find the hotel staffs along with the general manager. We don't know the owner(Kim Soo Hyun) would be a bitter and "evil" person like Man Weol or a cool funny guy. I think that kind of plot would be pretty interesting too, and pretty different with Hotel del Luna's plot. The hotel might be starting almost empty too, it would be pretty funny. I do hope that it will be shown to the Philippines because it really have a touch of our culture here especially we value the spirits of our departed ones.
Also, I find the actors and actresses have fulfilled their acting jobs in a superb manner. The series also got more chills as it contain cinematography far from the ordinary series. The musical scores and the rhythm of the sound tracks captured the audiences for sure.
I really do hope that the writers would write another hit kdrama!!!
I will miss not only Man Weol and Chan Seong but also all of the people who worked for Hotel Del Luna!!!

I liked IU facial sensitivity, but her tone can improve.The drama would have been perfectly edited into 8 episodes. There were a lot of product placements and tons of scenes just mulling about with the bgm.
This is a better drama than what the Hong Sisters has done in the past years. It's not all that bad.

it really shows you the beauty of love that not really can be seen in much other kdramas.. you'll definetely will have roller coster of emotion too. Me myself don't really think about watch it at first because I don't expect the cast would be matched soooo well with their characters. But, I was wrong and Hotel del Luna is one of my favorite drama so far..
I see that many people mistakenly think that Hong sisters (the writer of this drama) are influenced by Goblin, but that is definetely not the case. The story of Hotel del Luna was supposed to be written for the Master's Sun (Hong Sisters drama that aired in 2013). But they decided not to use it back then because a lot of reasons, and the main one I think is the CGI. Back in 2013, cgi for kdramas is not that common and need lots of cost. While for hotel del Luna as we can see, need so much high tech CGI so they can show the beauty of it. So they decided to change the whole storyline for Master's Sun,which I really enjoy myself too.
[SPOILER ALERT] I actually aready feel the sad ending would end this drama from the beginning, because we know that manwol is not human while chanseong is human and that would make the most "make sense ending" since Chanseong was brought to the hotel to send off manwol. But sometimes when I see how cute they r together, there's part of me hoping that some kind of miracle story would change the ending in midway.. but well, not every love story have a happy ending anyway... just like the Hong Sisters say "this is a love story where happy romance doesn't exist"
I still can't move on from this drama anyway :) Rated 100/10 from the bottom of my heart?

Jang Man Weol is the very first character who actually made me say that she's the original kdrama tsundere. I really like her character and the romance pacing is not that fast and not cheesy at all. IU really did great in this drama and made me forget that she started out as a singer. I started to actually like her acting from Scarlet Heart Ryo. Hope she gets more fantasy drama because she's slaying it.

It is like we know we’re going go someday, so we’re living our life, every bitter sweet moment. Same as chanseong and manwheol, they living their life as days goes.
The ending was confusing to many. Before i chance upon the hong sister’s interview, i thought it was an open ending (up for imagination) like many who commented here.. but it is a close ending. The real ending, suitable for such deep and meaningful drama.
[Sorry for spoilers] the scene where she turned and look at the camera (on the bridge) shows that she was liberated, free from her 1300yrs resentment. And like MaGo have said, CS will pain a heavy price, and that is to live without the person he loves the most, because MW have taught him everything about the afterworld, except 1 thing, how to live w/o her..
Therefore, the ending about him reading existence and life, which was by his mother, and said that she is here earlier than expected, it’s just him missing her, and that feeling of ease was earlier than he expect. He remembers her embrace, everything that in the last park scene is how it is like in his head..
And to add some hope, we do remember about the scissors, and that he possibly have red string with her, no matter. So the narration concentrate on the hopefulness that hey, they will meet soon. How soon? We never know..
Lastly, hotel blue moon is not to hint for season 2 but more of explaining to viewers that its true there will be new owner and some hot guy who drinks whiskey instead of champage, just to let viewer knows that moon hotel will always be there to guide souls (because some might ask like, if HDL close, where do the ghosts go?)
So to those wanting to watch and wondering if it worth the shot? It is. I shows sacrifice, compromising, love and the art of letting go of things that we love but cant seem to bear..
I love this drama, 10/10.
P/S: why a bouquet of flower? The flowers was given by Mago to souls to guide them right? I felt that Yuna ask for that many, it represents telling him thank you for guiding her, and hopefully with that much flowers, it will guide him back to her, and leave all his worries (unlike other ghosts, he settled his sole resentment but his still have unfinished business even after settling his resentment which is yuna because they fell inlove while being ghosts)

In fact, the two screenwriters Hong, who are sisters, have been clearly influenced by Goblin in creating a magical story that constantly swings between the present and the afterlife going as far back as 1300 years for some characters.
But the sisters Hong have chosen a different path, and they have written an original, complex story where the main character Jang Man-Wol is a strong, bitter, suspicious and unhappy young woman who is CEO of the Hotel del Luna, a unique hotel for ghosts on their way their afterlife in heaven. Jang Man-wol has been cursed to be the CEO of the hotel as punishment for a crime she committed 1300 years ago and does not remember. Man-Wol is doomed for eternity to run this strange and magical hotel for ghosts; unless she remembers her crime and atones for it. Because IU (이지은) who plays Man-Wol has now matured into a deep, intelligent, versatile and attractive young actress, it is difficult to say whether it is her acting that enhances the beauty of her dresses or if it is the quality of the dresses that allows her to totally express herself in her current mood. What a creative experience it is in every episode! Yeo Jin-Goo who has an outstanding record as actor and has won many prizes since his childhood is an excellent match for IU in the slowly evolving, stop-and-go love story between strong but troubled Man-Wol in search of her better self and steadfast, generous Koo Chang-Sung, which is the lead story at the heart of the drama. Everything about it is like a modern day fairytale; and it truly deserves to be mentioned among some of the other great K-Dramas of the genre, such as:
The Scholar Who Walks at Night Goblin: The Lonely and Great God A Korean Odyssey
Originally, I wondered about the casting; and to be honest, it prevented me from even considering to watch this series. Once I watched episode #1, all my fears had been assuaged. Not that I felt that any of the cast couldn't act well. It was just that I didn't think that they would be a good match. How wrong I was! The casting was just perfect. They worked well together; and they really brought their characters forward.
Everything about this series exudes a dreamlike quality, from the musical scores to the wardrobe to the scenes/sets. Everything is simply beautiful!
I highly recommend this series; and I would even suggest that a second series could do just as well... if they have enough new characters involved.

I don't have questions with the whole plot, the actors (although PO's expressions was a bit not for drama - sad scene) and the roller coster emotions they want viewers felt.. I'm just a bit disappointed on how ManChan's ending turned out.. My interests of Chungmyung's and Yuna-Hyunjong couple's storyline still left in my expectation.. ㅠ.ㅠ

Although this is a fantasy, you can really feel the story. You can feel the emotions. That heart breaking feeling on last few episodes are completely too hard to explain by words. Definitely worth watching it!

But I hope that there will not be a sequel until like 30-40 years later, then will the story continue. I don't want another bad sequel pls!!! sometimes it is best left with the first one, then will our expectations and/or imaginations for the future of the drama not disappoint viewers. Good job to every cast and crew, especially editors who brings the vision of the director's sequence to life.

User1 Sep 02 2019 2:48 am Overall I must say I feel disappointed with how the series turned out, maybe because my expectations were too high or that I was hoping to love it much as I do Master's Sun but unfortunately that's not the case. I think one of the reasons is that I didn't feel a connection between the two main leads even though I like each actor individualy. I did like Yoo-Na and Hyun-Joong couple and I was also interested in the storyline of Choeng-Myung. Although, I didn't really like how his ending with Man-Wol was written. I thought he was truly the one who loved her the most. The actor was able to portray it well, so kudos to him.

He killed himself with MW sword bcs he feel ashamed of himself. What type of sacrifice? Being with MW as a firefly? But he done nothing. Even tho he kept his promise, but being a firefly really sacrifice nothing. Look at CS, even he is new in MW life, but he is really mature. Look at how he handle MW feelings, the ghosts who need help, it was CS that have been helping them. He also always been there for MW. I would just hope there is happy ending for CS and MW. CS deserves all the happiness only with MW.

IU's act is really on point and the male lead are all out for his act too (Especially during crying scene on eps 14). And do really like how they put comedy in this drama (especially if Man Weol got jealous) . In my own opinion, I think Man Weol should be with Chang Seong. How Chang Seong change Man Weol's personality. See how Man Weol smile since episode 10++. I hope they have a proper happy ending.
Somehow, I hope they have season 2 or the movie.

The love story is unusual, especially with Man Wol's toughness and Chan Sung being too cute and pure, there's no way for them to fall in love, too weird... Yet they make it. The deity cause makes it all possible. Salut to writer-nim for this interesting story line. I really love the relationship between Man Wol, Chung Myung and Yeon Woo. Beautiful yet heartbreaking. Man Wol should be so thankful that she receives much much love. For whatever ending will be, happy or sad, the movie will end beautifully. Cant wait for it.

I would like to thank the casting directors for also allowing us to discover gems like Lee Tae Sun, Lee Do Hyun, and Cho Hyun Chul. The only character that I couldn’t really find myself to like is Ji Hyun Joong, most likely because of his weird facial expressions that usually would look out of place.
I haven’t been able to find a drama to watch in awhile until now because none have really kept me interested or invested.
I know that many people were rooting for Man Weol and Chung Myung but there’s just something that kept me rooting for ManChan from the beginning until the end. MW and CM cannot go back to how they were before, since all of the incidents in the past have changed MW a lot. I’m highkey hoping for a happy ending for Man Chan but it probably won’t happen.

On a different note I am loving yoo-na's story line from being a high schooler, intern, mini detective and a ghost inhabiting the shell of the girl who cause her so much pain. I love that . The character has depth and so much to explore. She should have a mini spin-off

And also it is funny too when chan sung afraid of the ghosts at the first place. Hahahhaa this drama is really the best!!!

I mean look at his character development. He went from a boy who used to try so hard to runaway from Man Wol, to a boy who would stare longingly at Man Wol whatever she's doing even when she's being grumpy. Episode 12 to me emphasize his sincere love for her the most. That scene when Chan Seong said "the flower is blossoming" but Man Wol said "it's time must be up soon" at the same time. His facial expression explains it all. God, that moment was too painful. Yeo Jin Goo really is a great actor. He brought the pain that Ku Chan Seong felt to me perfectly. I keep hoping for a happy ending since I watched 1st episode, but I'm getting hopeless lol. Every episodes are always filled with sad scenes like that.

But this drama is proving to be better than Arthdal. At first, I originally roll my eyes over the plot, hotel for ghost? I don't know how delirious the story would be. But I enjoy every episodes. Sometimes it's funny, sad, meaningful, and they are really giving their all into this. The beautiful shots from the director, the story by the writer, Hong sisters are the writer who wrote Master's Sun, right? The acting by all the casts. And even IU and her stylist are going all out to solidify Man Wol characters by showcasting so many beautiful outfits, different hairstyle, makeup, accessories, shoes, bags, and even nail art. But what carry it all, is IU's immersion into Man Wol's character. She even made the social media account for Man Wol. Too funny. The chemistry between all the casts are amazing. If not, they would think it's annoying to have to pose for the instagram but they do it willingly and act funny as well.

And I really like her clothes, style, and fashion here! Two thumbs up for cinematography, director, and script writer too. I can laugh and gigling so much with the conversation and nice jokes in this horror drama :)

Surprisingly I like how slow the character development, it kind of fits imo, I just hope the production team do not force and cramping the plot twists and character development in the last episode. But again, I still don't get why they still put YJG to be that over the top pure character, I just ended up seeing him as gagman cameo. IU though, now fits JMW character like gloves, I can't complain about anything anymore. Especially since the plot now got more serious and sad which imo are IU's specialty in acting.

HDL has many stories in it, and i love how the stories of the ghost makes me cry. The story makes me compare it to reality. And the characters especially Manweol makes me relate to her coz sometimes i resent others because of their bad deeds and sometimes we doubt Our Deity(God) because we think His unfair but at the end He will never makes a mistake that will harm or will not benefit us. Overall i love the flow of the story i felt different emotions and i learned many lesson in life. And i literally can't accept the fact that CM did not really love her? I was fall really hard with their loveteam!I thought and i feel that he really love her?but i don't why he did that? I thought he is good. ?I can't move on. But i love Chunseeong too. And i don't know if CM is reincarnated with him.

I have been watching IU ever since the beginning of Scarlet Heart Ryeo (my fav drama of all time) and she is personally one of the best actresses. The storyline is very interesting and stands out compared to other dramas. IU has made me cry everytime because every episode is really kinda sad. But the love story and connection between the two main leads is abit slow compared to other dramas (episode 8 so far) but that is completely fine, but I wanna see more chemistry between them !! Jin Goo's acting is also really good and I was impressed. I have a feeling that her time is going to come to the end and its going to be another sad ending like SHR which broke my heart TT IU unnie HWAITINGG

But no, I had to see all 8 and now be sleepless after being shattered by yet another drama. Yes, I'm loving it, but episode 8 is just cruel. I never bought MW being evil, been loving her since her first sentence and now I could basically slap the little bitch that try to come for my baby. If she ever did anything wrong was giving the princess a clean death, I would go full torture mode for every person that I loved that she killed. Also, I hope she killed CM for what he did. I don't care if he was threatened, I don't care if he ever loved her or didn't. He is a piece of shit, what he did is death sentence.

In fact the entire cast have delivered their roles flawlessly. I love all the scenes, the crew is super creative and each episode is a visual feast.The cameo's are an extra delight too. I could watch this forever and I know I will miss it when it finishes.

The story will be interesting when it comes to love and third parties. IU is great in acting here. I kept waiting the chemistry to be build, and then they ended kissing. Awkwardly. Also, I hope they are focusing more on the ghost part rather than Man Wol past. They are focusing too much on IU character rather than the hotel itself. The amount of the screentime regarding the ghost client in the hotel is too little. I should not compared this to The Master's Sun, but since people keep saying this story inspired by the Master's Sun, it's far from the same vibe. Seems like they trying too much to make this drama epic that all the plotlines become a mess. they try too make IU stands too much, and they did it. IU did shines here, just too bright that other characther seems not important.

The cinematography are pretty great, theal are great, costumes are great too. The acting though, a little disappointing. The supporting characters are pretty on-point, even Kang Mina was not that bad, when I kind of doubted her the most at first. P.O too, I mean his character is a pretty shallow one, kind of easy to nailed, but nonetheless, it's good that he hasn't ruin the flow. IU is also not that bad, but I personally think there are few other actresses who could do better than her like Han Ye Seul, Seo Ji Hye, and maybe Jun Ji Hyun. Her acting range is a little lacking especially those times when she has to show her bad temper or being savage(In my opinion, she looked rather awkward). But, I think the worst actor in this drama is Yeo Jin Goo, and it's weird since I know he's not a bad actor. I loved his character in Circle, and he nailed it there. But, here? He's actually so bad, I always hate actor or actress who do overacting compared to blank acting, and YJG overacting A LOT in this drama. Is his character supposed to be in a sitcom or something, his acting when he's scared is super bad too, I always cringe when he appeared.

I mean, I also thought that it was a bit rushed, but I'm tired seeing k-dramas where we can guess what will happen in certain episodes. Like mostly, the main leads kisses in ep.9 or 10, they will show a lot of cute and romantic moments in ep.12-13, they get into trouble in ep.14 or 15 (they get into arguments, fights, or something that makes them can't be together), and finish with usual happy ending where there are only 10 minutes left in the story.

And that dead tree was the tree he promised her to build her a house with (the tree came alive again when he came to the hotel, the purple flower and the purple petal tucked on his suit gave it away) but he died and so the tree found its way to the dead land also and instead of it becoming their house, it "housed" her pain and suffering, taking the sword that killed so many people out of her grasped until one day he comes back to release her from everything. Thats my observation for now.

I dislike Yeo Jin-Goo generally, he squanders opportunities to shine as an actor. Opportunities best given to other hard-working actors.
IU's performance in "My Mister" was so good it's clear to me she should go for serious roles more often. This drama doesn't look like it will do much to elevate the Hong sisters' status anyway. I think they are washed-up writers.
I'm happy to be proven wrong.

He's good at conveying a certain palette of emotions, like sadness (a kid who was separated from a close friend) or authority (a young prince). But in "Hotel Del Luna", he must portray a very different character. In the subway scene, where he meets IU, he should look anxious, confused, almost trembling in fear, and he looks none of that. An actor like Lee Seung-Gi, who has a comical side, would've nailed this role. But anyway, Yeo Jin-Goo is very young, so he will have time to improve.

But, I'm guessing that, because when using hangul they write down the words using a similar phonetic (in this case: 호텔 델루나), and because hangul was devised to fit the korean language (Korean syllables are organized into blocks of letters that have a beginning consonant, a middle vowel, and an optional final consonant) not spanish or english, it is unable to convey many of the nuances that are important to the spanish language as effectively as the latin alphabet. So, my guessing is that they just wrote down the name as it is pronnounced in hangul, without even cheking for the right latin orthography when using the latin alphabet.

popcorn and coke Jul 13 2019 11:14 am @lena, im not fluent in spanish, only took a few months lesson but the del or de la is just "de" and "el" put together. its easier to just say del so most people use them like an abreviation of we are with we're. and it can mean a lot of things in certain circumstances so del in Hotel del Luna can either mean Hotel "of the" Luna/Moon or Hotel "from the" Luna/Moon. I hope this helps even just a little. *awkward smile*

I've taken only 2 years of Spanish but I'm pretty sure you use el for masculine noun and la for feminine noun with a few exceptions and it should be "la" luna.. Did the makers do it on purpose/for a reason? Just confused if they would mess up an official name of a potentially big drama like this. *shrug*

Popcorn Mar 10 2019 11:38 am @Your Ahjussi, the writer is not the one who wrote The Legend of the Blue Sea/The Producers/You Who Came From the Stars but the HONG sisters who wrote A Korean Odyssey/Master's Sun/Big/Warm and Cozy and etc. Yes, they're one of the greatest writers to exist because all of their dramas are so good. Huhu. I cant wait for this especially that its IU, her recent drama My Mister was such a good one and Yeo Jin Goo just nailed one of the highest ratings for a cable drama for his The Crowned Clown so yeah, this is one of the most anticipated drama of all time. It's packed with a great team!
