Drama series depicts the story of young doctors who provide medical service to island residents via a hospital ship.
Song Eun-Jae (Ha Ji-Won) is a capable surgeon at a large hospital in Seoul. She works very hard at her job and will become the youngest female chief surgeon there. Song Eun-Jae is burdened with responsibility over her mother and younger sibling. Her mother lives on an island with her aunt. Her mother sometimes sends patients to the hospital where Song Eun-Jae works, which brings trouble for her. One day, Song Eun-Jae's mother, who frequently has indigestion problems, comes to the hospital. Her mother talks with Song Eun-Jae on the phone. Song Eun-Jae becomes upset, believing her mother has sent her another patient. Her mother goes back to the island without seeing Song Eun-Jae. Later, Song Eun-Jae receives a phone call from her aunt that her mother has collapsed. When Song Eun-Jae gets to the emergency room where her mother is at, she learns that her mother has passed away. Song Eun-Jae is devastated.
Meanwhile, Kwak Hyun (Kang Min-Hyuk) is a physician. He volunteers to work aboard a hospital ship as a public health doctor instead of serving in the military. He became a doctor due to his father. His father is a highly regarded physician and known as the “Korean Schweitzer,” but he has neglected his family. Kwak Hyun wants to become a good doctor, but not become like his father. He now works at the hospital ship with Kim Jae-Gul (Lee Seo-Won) who is an oriental doctor and others.
Song Eun-Jae then appears aboard the hospital ship.

Ish Oct 01 2023 9:07 am It's an entertaining series that's easy to watch, but well below Dr. Romantic, for example. The idea of the hospital ship is still interesting, with their passage through the various islands. That said, I don't find Kang Min-Hyuk very convincing. He maintains the same passive facial expression in every situation. I hadn't noticed it in other series, but here it's become obvious and annoying. I couldn't believe the love story between Song Eun-Jae and Kwak Hyun.
Blu Aug 25 2023 7:16 am The comment below makes me sick! Lee seo won does not deserve to make a comeback after what he did! His victim should not have to relive through the trauma over and over again every time he’s on screen! He’s also not that special of an actor in the first place! If his character was to be removed from this drama (or any of the other ones he’s been in) it would make little to no difference, in fact it would’ve made everyone’s viewing experience a lot better! Ha jiwon and Kang minhyuk carried this on their back, they were the best part of the drama! With the amount of criminal men that are still active in the industry i’m actually surprised he didn’t make his comeback yet but for the sake of his victim i hope he stays far away! There are way too many talented and genuine people who deserve the spotlight!
TW Dec 28 2022 1:42 am I first watched Ha Ji Won and Lee Seo Jin in Damos. I have watched many dramas of her and she is absolutely the best actress. Now that I am watching this drama, I am thoroughly enjoying it. One of the best dramas and with great casts. Loving Kang Min Hyuck and Lee Seo Won. I wish that Lee Seo Won would come back to acting again. He was excellent in Uncontrollably Fond as Suzy's younger brother. I hope he has straightened his life out. Looking forward to the next episode in a week. I recommend this drama to everyone.

B.C. Jan 10 2021 9:30 am This was the drama that introduced me to Ha Ji Won. Although I’ve been hearing about her for a long time but it was advertised in twitter that this was the comeback drama of the “Queen” of kdrama. All I can say is, what a pilot episode! Got me hooked to Ha ji won right away. Kang Min Hyuk also did a great job being the endearing doctor/boyfriend any woman could fall for. This kdrama is definitely worth watching because of the beauty of the story that shows that a doctor is vulnerable just like its patients but nevertheless gives their everything to save lives.

Lisa Dec 05 2020 3:56 am I had base against this drama beccause the leads age difference is too big to ignore it and the lead man has a baby face too , My friend encouraged me to watch it and all i can say is i love it , it deserve one try but definitly is not the type of drama to rewatch , acting was ok , the chemistry between leads was surprisingly good and enjoyable , the idea was great but the story has some holes here and there , its not the best medical drama out there but its good enough to give it try

Casting spoilt this drama, and one or two hammy daytime TV actors were also a blemish. The series sank into mediocrity during the middle. Overall the idea, setting, countryside and characters were great, so could have been magical.

AY Jul 07 2019 11:02 pm Worth the watch because of the lead actors who are both doctors. I will be forever grateful for watching this series because its content contains different life lessons that one can apply in their life. But it could have also been better if the episodes are until 45 at least so that we can see what will happen to them after Song Eun Jae recovered from her surgery and how she was with Kwak Hyun.

Miss T Mar 14 2019 12:10 am it was a refreshing move from the typical k drama of romatic focus but it would have done with more romatic scenes for the two leads. Did not really feel any chemistry between them and that just made watching it the more boring. The episodes were okay but not captivating to want to stay up all night watching it. Not a drama i will be repeating.

DW Nov 09 2018 2:11 pm This drama deserves more recognition. It's not the best out there, but it's one of the only Kdrama that stays true to "slice of life" genre. It's episodic, but very vibrant and has heartwarming moments. At first glance Ji Won x Minhyuk pairing may seem mismatched due to wide age gap, but if you watch this you'll come to adore the couple as they look completely natural. I also loved the whole ensemble as well as the minor characters as it felt very lively. The show moves in a way that makes you feel like there's life behind the screen as well. Definitely a show worth watching if you want a slice of life drama.

Kim Do Hoon's malpractice and his fake achievements and then Young Eun's lie about her illness. They aren't finished properly!! It just let go and they bring it 'till death! It just doesn't feels right.
The funnier thing is HJW ilness. Why so suddenly and so rushing? It makes her illness looks unnecessary.

Also HJW and LSW is 19 years apart. Maybe, its not a sin to fall in love with a boy in the elementary school for me. Dang, korean women looks younger than their age

Guest2 Jan 01 2018 1:43 am Congrats Ha Ji Won for winning the Top Excellence Award. Her acting was fantastic. Surprise at ths award given how K entmnt place so much imptce on ratings to decide whether anything is good or bad. And compared to other dramas it looks like HS had not spent a cent on promotions, no media play at all. Even then her performance is noted and rewarded. Thats the magic of it.
Kang MH has not been given an award but its okay cos this is his first lead role and he has done very very well as a first timer. Im sure he gained precious experience here to help him later. The msg i want for him is to just give of his best. If its not recognised, move on. Do somthing else. No point getting a mental brk down over it (Im writing this in the wake of the Shinee tragedy).
Thom Dec 22 2017 3:51 pm I loved this drama. I started watching from episode 4. So I had to go back to see it from episode 1! I was confused by the final episode. I thought Dr. Song had the cancer spread from her leg to her lungs. So, did the chemo she got to treat her lungs successful? Why didn't they treat her leg? Then when she was operated by Dr. Kim for her leg, how did she recover so quickly to be back on the ship to operate on the child? She looked normal, like nothing happened to her. I guess, this left the door open for another season 2. If so, I'll be sure to watch.
Guest2 Dec 19 2017 1:18 am Initially I actually questioned whether the HJW/ KMH combo work. After watching the whole series i am really impressed how compatible they are as Dr Song and Dr Kwak. They have done very well. For KMH I hope he can have more lead roles if he decides to branch out into acting. If not he can continue with areas relating to music cos it may be his first love.
HJW might take a break as usual after each drama. As ive said before dont return to MBC. Its really a sh......t stn.

Kang Min Hyuk also gives his nice performance and Ha Ji Won's performance was never failed! I'm always tearing up even more in their last episode. It's worth to watch trust me ! ?

semperlei Nov 26 2017 11:38 pm it was a nice drama... has a potential of becoming great if not with the rushed ending!!! i love ha jiwon and totally fell for kang min hyuk for his great portrayal here of a gentle and sweet doctor.. this has a unique storyline that is why you will be entertained.. even i am a sucker for romantic plot and this drama has a subtle romance i still love it but found myself really disappointed at the very rushed ending!!! oh i hate the writer.for giving all the feels and voila the end!!! grrrrrrhhhhh... it still.worth the watch but rest assured that you will feel disappointed because of the damn ending... ahhh cant move on....
semperlei Nov 26 2017 9:25 am a nice drama that could been great if the ending was not too rushed! i love ha jiwon and totally into kang min hyuk and their acting was both great as well as the other actors here... a fresh storyline that made it so interesting... eventhough romance here is subtle i still feel the love between the leads... and then they rushed the ending that made me so frustrated.. you will have all the feels in the last episode then vola! wrap up.. the end...urrrggghhhh... but overall it still good to watch...but be ready to feel cheated... by the writer ... :(

al Nov 06 2017 12:01 pm Things are so good until (almost) the end of the drama. Unfortunately, the abrupt ending destroy the essence of the drama. I do appreciate some dramas which have unexpected endings, but not this type of ending. The ending was just too unrealistic and absurd for a medical drama that has such logical sense. I have to say the last episode is a flop

HaJiWon perfectly conveyed every emotions to the viewers with or without the surgery mask. Haha
Kang Min Hyuk delivered a consistent character. A warm and compassionate doctor and lover.
Other casts made the whole run of Hospital Ship enjoyable and interesting
They deserve awards for this heartwarming drama.
Even without a 100% promotional support and sometimes delayed telecasts from MbC due to its internal Labor Strike problem, which affected the ratings in SoKor, Hospital Ship ranked as one of the top views in international viewers during its actual run.

So sorry to say this, but the ending was so disappointing :(
It's not realistic and it felt like they just want to end it up fast. They should not make the lead female fell sick if they only had two episode (and it's short), if they want to make her sick then why not killed her in the end? If they want to make a happy ending they can make another plot, or at least lengthening the episodes. It will be realistic enough if they show us how the lead female fight the illness with the support and let us see what the struggle and so on. If they can operate her just like that, why bother to send her back to Seoul? And why the doctors in Seoul didn't do anything?
Sorry, for me it's not realistic and so sad to watch the ending. I really like the story and hoping for a great ending, but they did not end the story well. They had a really good story line and all the actors and actresses really did a great job portraying their characters. I only disappointed by their ending :(

HJW & KMH are good chemistry with real couple and they give their best effort acting ability the moments of sweetness and sadness and their drama is very touching from beginning to end with happy ending. Any roles haji won portrays is always magnificent. Kang Min Hyuk despite his age don't make any difference for age gap. They both looking good as lovers. Everything else with casting, location and scriptwriting are exciting with motivations, fun and thrilling, emotional and sadness, kissing technique are beyond thrilled, feeling and believing were all great. Music background are fun and upbeat. I can't wait to see more drama for HJW & KMH loveteam. Good luck!

I like it because it just warms up your soul esp. when you see the lead actor smile. It is more than a love story. It is a good portrayal of life. I will miss all the characters.

During the middle, viewers started to clamour for more intimate scenes cz of the OTP overflowing chemistry. When there is still none of it nearing end we hear sighs of disappointment. Moral of the story, writer nim can please some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time.
Given how the drama has progressed, shipping has started, the usual Kdramas exercise. I hope this shipping stuff shld stop especially when I come across comments that insinuate that it was HJW who has started it all. Its not funny, ok! Whoever give this suggestion shld go jump into a lake. She is the most senior amongst the cast. If she set herself apart and not interact with them and make them feel at ease in her presence, she is deemed arrogant. If she has shown care and concern she is trying to get the attention of her co-stars. Ive watch dramas for years and have never liked this shipping exercise. The unkind words Ive come across in some shipping wars in other dramas really make me puke. I hope it doesnt happen here. Please have some respects for the actors.

But Hospital Ship can do it. It has to admire the writer and all the actors especially lead actors. Hajiwon and Minhyuk are very good actors. They are able to show the amazingly compatible chemistry. Their acting is very warm and touchable. It’s so natural. Certainly, Hospital Ship wiil be one of my favorite Korean drama forever.

It is a pity because i really love scenes with ha ji won and kang min hyuk together.
Although i dislike hospital politics and malpractice cases, these are realistic scenarios. I would have liked it more if this was 16 episodes and ended with the pirates episodes and a passionate kiss of the OTP after they got together.

myxblush Oct 21 2017 6:59 pm TBH, when KMH was confirmed for the male lead I wasn't excited but after giving it a chance. DAMN! He is SO PERFECT! He portrays his character so well. Both of the leads have amazing teamwork/chemistry, you can see there love for each other. I love HJW's character because she has women power in confidence, determination and challenges herself but she can be weak at the same times. I don't care about the ratings, it is recommended.

I believe comments about acting disparity were not really directed at KMH personally but rather at the issue of 'idol' taking acting roles. The same comments would hve bin given even if another ‘idol’ is named. Many drama watchers do not follow kpop and really have no clue who they are. The moment idols/band boys are casted, the first question is almost always why not cast real actors instead. The blame can be placed on having seen how some idols hve bin given lead roles even when they perform poorly again and again.
KMH has won a new fan like me. Hope this drama will jumpstart his acting career, getting more lead roles. He is good but still hve room to improve. HJW has again shown how she can bring out the best in her partner even if they are first timers as a lead, making them feel at ease thru her cheerful disposition. Its this human aspect of hers that I find her endearing.

But after watching this drama, I started to like Minhyuk and started following his past works. He is cute and amazing, proformed well, druming and good singing. But as I watch this drama, Min Hyuk is fine with me. He doesn't need to put much more effort since he is like a real life Kwak Hyun. Ha Ji Won has this charm that even though she is already 39 years old, she can develop a very good chemistry with younger actors ( mainly because she still looks in her 20's, she has a baby face). Am a big fan of Ha Ji Won and I guess this drama is not her best drama. Her best drama for me is Empress Ki.

BUT i think my problem lies with writer-nim. She must have not written a script for too long. While many scenes tug my heartstrings, I really dislike the old-fashioned plot of the ex girlfriend, the unnecessary love triangle, and NOW bad men with guns on the ship. SERIOUSLY?!
Most important of all, where is my OTP moment? It is already Ep 14 and my OTP have not even held hands. Maybe the writer's aim is not to get high ratings, or give what the audience wants to see. Can someone please tell writer nim to read the comments here? Please?

For me, reversal of gender will be comparable to Doctor Crush. A senior doctor with two female junior doctors fighting for his affection while all are facing their own dilemna. Its just sad that the female lead lost her badass persona in the middle of the drama and let herself be carried away with the flow of events and be dragged by the manly character.
In HS, i like how the character build up that develops gradually but with consistencies. I think its one of the reasons the writer offered the role to HJW. She can act by simply using her eyes and deliver the message of her character just like what she did in Empress Ki. She stays true within her character even as Gil Ra Im before.
Dr. Song seems to be cold and composed but eventually loosen herself up with her HS family. She learned to let her pride go several times for the sake of her family and patients. Everytime shes at a crossroad, she makes a decision that builds her character.
As with Dr. Kwak, just like what Dr. Kim said, she's guarding her feelings because she does not want to look weak and appear lacking. And it so happens that everytime she's at her worst, Dr. Kwak is there watching her as she breaks down. That's her internal struggle.
For me it is better than a sudden change just because she fell in love and then will eventually loose herself. It will be a waste of good pilot episodes.
When will she let her feelings be known to Dr. Kwak? Thats the climax that we are all waiting for. What will be the reason in which she will be pushed to the limit and will let herself go and run towards Dr. Kwak? I really hope it will happen VERY SOON. Haha
Kudos to the writer as she stays with her objective to showcase a humane medical drama about hospital ship but still with a touch of romance. The storyline is her way of depending how this drama will end. All her characters are vital from start to finish. She never rush that makes it high in anticipation among viewers. A sigh of relief among all kdrama full of fantasies and magic nowadays.

Yes, we all have different perspectives and perceptions of how people should act and I respect that and your opinion.
I'm liking the story line so far and I'm not sure what is putting me off on Eun Jae's character as the first drama I ever watched was one of Ha Ji-Won's and I am a fan of her work. But in this I'm not sure ... I think she's too mature to act this way and both her love interests look and act a little too young for her. But in saying this, if the roles were reversed and it was a male doctor with two young female doctors would that make it o.k? I'm not sure. Let me know your opinion :)

The scenery at Geoje Island are so beautiful, calm and peaceful, away from the maddening crowd. Will surely include Geoje in my itenenary when i visit SK in spring next year.

Hajiwon play very well as a brave and good doctor. But at the same time, she is as sensitive and protect herself from love. And also Minhyuk play very well as polite and warm heart doctor. He use the eye contact so well when he looking at the Hajiwon that can make many girl so jeaous. The romantic scene of the couple is so beautiful and I want more. They have the chemistry together.

The writer obviously did not portray a perfect persona for every character. Her characters usually grows with each other just like in hwang jin yi. They complete and complement each other.
Dr. Song learned to conceal her emotions and be brave enough to handle all their family matters coz her mother cant handle the problems esp when their father left them. She cannot breakdown even when she wanted to. She became a one-track minded person who focuses to resolve her family issues above else. If only her mother is stronger, she may be shielded from the harsh reality of their debts and other struggles.
For her brother, he's matured enough to accept that his father is imperfect but still their father that needs support and understanding. Unlike Dr. Song who holds a grudge since they were abandoned. Of course he panics bcoz of cancer. They recently lose their mother due to sickness. Code blue is critical. He knows that her sister carries most of the burden and she needs him to be strong coz Dr. Song is still has her weakness. He found Dr. Kwak as a big help in supporting her sister.
The whole drama focuses on differrent slice of life and how humans handle each struggles differently. As viewers we definitely have our own ways of handling problems. We may or may not do the same.
Thats the good side of this drama. We are being offered of another side of life and a chance to understand life as a whole in a different perspective. Its about human interest without any dose of fantasy, magic and such.

Perhaps they should of made her mother meaner than the contrast wouldn't be so unbelievable. Her little brother is immature too, he is crying that something is wrong with his dad but he's already been told he is sick. Over dramatic display of emotion, it's putting me off watching this, come on writers, don't drown your characters.

It's funny how in real life age difference between HJW & KMH is bigger than between her & actor who plays her Dad. Usually KDramas are better at matching actors/actresses to characters ages. KMH has really grown as an actor. Love his singing & drum skills in CNBlue but he has actually matured as an actor. He was always good, loved him in Heartstrings & Heirs now in HS as a lead he is showing that he has some major acting skills. Keep up the great work.

Other dramas lack that spark despite having perfectly matched couple. Hospital Ship is really an eye opener how to act, produce and direct a kdrama. I wish the writing was a little more original but I am so loving the lead couple. Wish it was real because hey what is wrong with a woman going for someone younger? Song Hye Ko did it with Song Joong Ki right?

The story really tackles a lot about life and human struggles and our different approach in handling those problems. Sometimes its right for you but for others that surrounds you, its wrong. But in the end we all just want to survive and be happy.
Ha Ji Won is the best! Every time she cries I feel her sadness when her real life father died..

When you have real talents in lead roles deserving of their roles & the titles "actress and actor" it makes viewing more worthwhile. Nothing worse than a good plot/storyline that could have been a good drama but got ruined bec an overrated over mediahyped idol who have no acting skills whatsoever is cast as lead.
This drama has been good in keeping it's entertaining momentum. Great job to everyone.

Chyeah Sep 30 2017 11:51 pm I loove this drama. Kang Min Hyuk is so dreamy. I never thought I was going to fall for him. I got into CNBlue a whilr ago but only saw him as the cute-faced drummer but now he's the cute-faced, dreamy doctor drummer. Lol. The only problem I have with this drama is how cliche it's getting in recent episodes. Come on. [SPOILER] The ex-girlfriend has a terminal disease and could die in 2 years if she doesn't find a donor and now Dr. Kwak is going to sympathize with her and put Dr. Song to the side. It's so predictable. And I'm pretty sure the ex will survive. [SPOILER] And now Dr. Song's dad has cancer and wants to die so she could get the money. It's getting cliche. I hope it changes in future episodes. But, overall, great drama. That's my only complaint.

I like this drama but now as a viewer i don't want them to be separated for too long.... things are becoming quite evident that in upcoming episodes may be Hyun is going to side with his ex even if Dr. Song has change of heart and comes back to him! I wish his ex fakes about her illness!
I wish they both realise their love for each other and embrace passionately as expected from them!

Guest2 Sep 18 2017 8:08 am Enjoy this drama so much as its focus is on the family values and different type of relationships. So far thankful it has not slipped into the sameness as in many dramas where the whole story is nothing but abt the romance btwn the OTPs (sori shippers if you prefer that).
Since this is a med drama, im not surprised it touches a lot on life and death issues, like how expectations differ about what we should do as a life nears its end.
Eun Jae the doc wanted Seol to get the op while Seol, the patient, chose not hving it. Their decisions are based on their personal experience. Eun Jae's mum died without the choice of getting treated. Hence she prodded him to have a go at the op as theres some chance of success. On the other hand, Seol related how he insisted tt his wife get operated on for her cancer tho she didn’t want it. Though her life was prolonged she spent the extended time stuck to her bed till she died. He regretted his decision and rejects the op for himself as he feels he cld spend the remaining days more fruitfully however short it is. All these discussions are relevant as to the real world as its just a matter of time we will face similar dilemma.
The scene between Hyun and Seol are very poignant as they discussed the pros and cons of the latter's treatment. Hyun is mild manner and a good listener first hearing out Eun Jae’s mom and then Seol. He is quite the antithesis of Eun Jae’s tough persona. Perhaps, this is how they complement each other thru the series.
I'll watch on to see how EJ wades her way out of the baggage she has been carrying. The coldness towards her mom is definitely not just about her being too preoccupied with her work. There must be some other unresolved issues what her mom had done.

And also add funny scenes to make the drama more flavorful. Apart from that, the casting was done well. It looks real. Both male and female lead actors have chemistry together. Cslove Sep 14 2017 9:09 pm It is great for me so far, I think the emphasis is not on the detailed medical procedures but rather the emotional struggles that these Doctors have to go through to bring them to maturity. It is great pacing with with sufficient details on the emotional developments. While some parts and actions are not clearly explained, it is deliberate attempt to be elaborated in future episodes. This is what I discovered after watching 12 epi. I can’t really tell the age differences and the character description did not elaborated on their age other than I saw HJW is a senior and more experienced doctor. Probably meant to be older just by a few years, common to see such couple. The chemistry is not bad btw the 2 leads although not the best among HJW’s co-star but believable. Shipping them and wanted to see their relationship developed and challenged.

I cld hit her below the belt & question why she being a mama of 2 teens & in her 50s partner one young enough to be her son. Affairs can be btwn ppl in their 20s and 30s. Why PD chose her? You hve the answer, rite? Its cos she fits the story character. Same with HJW, why they let her carry the full weight of this drama.
Its my take that Eun Jae and Kwak Hyun are siblings, w different moms same father. Hence no romantic relationship. EJ is going to mentor Hyun first as his senior, then as his sister. Ill watch on to see if this is so. I really enjoy this trip.
sara Sep 10 2017 1:43 pm I'm really enjoying Hospital Ship. It's not mindblowing, but for me it's the most watchable of the current shows, and I can see why the ratings are good. The subject matter (underfunded hospital ship traveling around helping isolated rural communities) is interesting and gritty at times. There is no romance yet. And unlike most Korean medical dramas that tend to be "Greys Anatomy"-ish, this drama is focused primarily on the practiceof medicine.Also, I was hesitant about the idols in the drama, but the lead guy is actually doing a decent job playing a subdued role. HJW isalso playing a very different role than she has ever played. She's so serious, cold and closed off all the time, that makes the drama interesting as well.

My absolute favorite kdrama is secret love affair where the age gap is bigger. But they are very credible as a couple. In hospital ship, I just do not feel any chemistry. But again, it is my personal opinion. It is also possible that I am biased because I do not like Ha Ji-Won.
whytee Sep 10 2017 1:24 am I don't really see a problem with the age gap here, cause 1) Ha ji won is a snr doctor, who is about to take over the chief doctor position, which obviously means she is indeed a few years older than kang ming hyuk in the drama 2) Ha ji won looks like she's forever young, she looks as if she's 10 years younger than her original age. So honestly, I don't see what's wrong with casting her alongside with kang ming hyuk, just ignore the original age figures, you won't even think there's a wide age gap lol. This is indeed a nice drama with a different concept for a medical drama. I think I will continue to enjoy this drama.

Guest2 Sep 09 2017 4:22 pm @tina, ep 7 &8 are really heartwarming esp the final scene of ep 8. The scene shld remind us not to take our moms for granted as this is a scene of regrets, regrets for shutting mom out while climbing the corporate ladder.
Going by the plot so far, guess Eun Jae cld be the sis of Hyun as Ive not come across any mention of EJ's dad (or hve I miss it). if Im correct, it will be interesting as the actor of Hyun's dad was the dad of gil ra im (HJW) in secret garden. Also Ill be having a good laugh at the trolls who hve been coming here to harp on the age diff.

Huntress Sep 08 2017 9:03 am Keep watching! The phasing is very good esp on the manner how the characters evolve and how they handle their every struggles. Every patients help them learn more about themselves. The acting is very convincing. It shows us that even the best is not perfect like Dr.Song. We all have imperfections but it is how we manage to complement each other just like how HJW and KMY interacts. The chemistry of all the casts are also evident.
About the age gap? Its how the leads handle their acting with the given storyline. HJW has proven it time and again. She always works hard to give the character justice. For KMY, its his time to show that he deserves to be an actor.
Still not convinced? Then go watch a children show. No issues with age gap there for sure.

Even if minhyuk looks like her son (which many will tell u ut u need a eye checkup to say that) whats the problem. You sound v smug. By the time u reach HJW's age a guy of minhyuk's age might look like your grandson. Youll never know u cld look worse.

shir Sep 08 2017 6:10 am i love ep 7 the most.this drama's focous was on female lead till ep 7and finally we can see some BTS of male actor too, although we stilldont know what happened to him that make fear of intubation in himbut seeing his family is new page for this drama, male actor did so much better in this ep too, and there was not any sign of that awk acting which we saw in first eps.love the intraction between male and female lead too

I've been a kdrama fan almost a decade have seen Doctor Stranger, Doctor Crush and so on, but I must admit this one is great. The plot and the phasing are on point. The concept is new. The place, setting..it's refreshing. I shed tears a lot and heol it's just the 8th episode. Kekekeke~~ Thumbs up for this. When it comes to the romantic side, Ha ji won and Kang min hyuk's act naturally. It's an all kill drama for me. Family, love, friendship, struggles, competition and name it all.

I didn't like Lee Seo won's role there , so it's difficult erase his image from that drama here 2. Rather feel bored with medical drama. (But I'm watching live up to your name because it focus to acupuntur , not modern medical)
But I read this drama has good praises, so I'll try watch it later after this drama ended

I mean it is more obvious during ep 5, where there is a scene that the doctor is doing surgery to connect the hands( vessels ). And after they success with the surgery, the doctor came out from the OR and looking like she is walking on the red carpet with people looking good, complement her success. I think it is same as the RDTK. And to compare this drama with RDTK, i think RDTK is much better cause the surgery scene looks really realistic and much deeper. The way how to stitch the cuts, the infilbritation so so realistic. But i didnt said that this Hospital Ship is not good, but it just lack of realistic i think and the cast were also not bad as Ha Ji Won one of the cast plus the good looking Kang Min Hyuk.

As for JCW as a better match I find his over the top acting was just a put off. Ive fast forward scenes he came on but continue watching bc of HJW. To each his own. I shall not side track into details not related to HS.
I was concerned about Kang Min Hyuk, acting too. However, looking at his place in the plot Ive accepted tt his acting is consistent with the drama character. He has played out well what is required of him in that position, someone overshadowed by his father's success. I do not expect every character including the mains to be loud, exuberant and overblown.
Which drama is not cliche? Dramas promoted as military, laws, medical are basically the same. Almost all dramas is about romance, family feud, back stabbing, business sabotage, secret births. Nothing is new especially the part where they name a whole shipment of so called popular co-actors but ultimately feature only two main OTPs. If we think that cliche dramas are not worth watching we wont be watching a host of them, including those hype up ones by the media.
As for Jo Hyun Jae, dont we know they look for actors to fit the script at hand and not the other way round. HS has been set to be abt a mix of doctors of different age group with diff level medical knowhow working together in a small ill equipped ship for outlying islands. Perhaps there may not even be any serious romance. The plot may well just focus on how a sr doc mentor the new ones, how people from different background work within the confined of a small ship with bare minimums, how they ultimately change by the time they leave. So why do people insist that sr doc must have someone around her age to romance with when that is not the intention of the writer.

Her acting was awesome.. She never ages just grows young.. Kang min hyuk is good till now.. As a newbie, who doesn't have much experience n has fears of his past failures.. He looks good.. As for lee seo won, I don't understand why he is so twisted? Something might have happened to him.. That gives him no reason to spew bad abt the heroine.. Overall the drama is good ..i really expect a good going from this drama.. Hjw n kmh have age difference but it doesn't show off on the screen.. She looks perfect with kmh.. So I would not detest romance between them.. I just want them to create emotional bonding between them then heal each other n develop a relationship.. I don't want rushed romance.. Loving this drama.. This drama is increasing in ratings.. Hope the ratings go up up n up.. Fighting!!! Hospital ship team!!

I did watch this drama and my honest opinion is that Kang Min Hyuk isn't suitable for Ha Ji Won not just age wise but he's not as good as the lead actress. Kang Min Hyuk's delivery is rather weak and he has a limited set of facial expressions. He lacks presence. However even though there was a wide age gap, I thought Ji Chang Wook was very good with HJW in Empress Ki. Overall, the drama is a lukewarm disappointment. The plot is thin and cliched. I do like hospital dramas though. I thought Yongpal and Good Doctor were excellent. This drama is definitely a notch down from those two dramas. What they should have done was cast an actor who is around HJW's age who can act. To sum it up, the noona dongsang dramas of the last ten years are getting old and tiring. It's time to get back to the similar age gap romance-now that would be refreshing for a change. And if Jo Hyun Jae was in this drama as the lead, I wouldn't want him playing a 28 year old doctor. He should play a 38 year old doctor. I'm not into actors playing someone ten years younger, LOL.

Ha Ji Won as the tough as nails surgeon...I think we have seen her as the tough girl before...Empress Ki, Secret Garden to name a few... The casting of Kang Min Hyuk was also a grave mistake. His expressions are terribly limited and he has zero chemistry with Ha Ji Won. I don't understand why K-dramas have a constant need of casting untalented idols and pair them up with the brilliant older actresses? I wouldn't be surprised if the ratings plunge in the next three weeks. Why couldn't they cast the handsome and talented Jo Hyun Jae as the lead?

As for the age gap, its appropriate here as Eun Jae is a sr doc while Hyun is a newbie. In my place u can find fresh docs aged arund 28 yo pacing the wards. Their respnsibities ofc is different. They hve to learn a thing or two from the experienced nurses not just frm the sr docs. Its realistically feature here. So hope it keeps up.

I've watched 4 episodes of hospital ship and I'm impressed of her enthusiasm and her hardwork. Eventhough the negative comments about her and the young actors and their age gap, I don't feel that important in the drama. The most important is how each character portrays their roles to bring out the best for the drama.

In other words; you can choose to watch or not to watch HS. Since you have so much grevances who should partner who, who shld be the lead and tt you are tired of main lady lead is older than the supporting staff, you do hve a choice to watch something else. Theres one drama that comes to mind that meet your age criteria of the main actress, younger than the actor. Go watch it as its rating its dropping to almost zero. That drama needs your support.

Ha ji won will always be HA JI WON. She's one of the A-list stars in Asia. Just let those young actors/actress learn from her and all will surely prove their worth in terms of acting.
I think the storyline is not a typical lovey dovey drama so let's see how it goes until the end. Haters gonna hate but im one of those fans who will always support my dearest Ha Ji Won.

I'm one who is apprehensive about tagging these idols to her, not becos of the age gap but the acting gaps between them. She was the first to confirm for the drama. If these idols/ newbies feel uncomfortable with her why come on board. Isnt there some benefits they think tthey can wring out from working with her before they decide to join in?
What is your concern with the msg to viewers? Are you concern that; viewers after watching it will start to do ate older woman and in your eyes this is not good. Isnt this hypocrite. There are plenty of dramas with actors romancing co stars young enough to be their daughters. plse go make noise at these sites instead of here. By the way, dont u know tt kdramas has not been the place to learn how to live a morally upright life style.
Details of the plot are still not clear and you are making a fuss about its impact on viewers. Isnt this absurd?

The events she attended were not meant to cater to teeny boppers only. She is an adult in the industry for years. Its appropriate for her to step beyond the comfort and "safe" zone. If there are people who dont like it, so be it. What is important is not deceiving onlookers with a pure and innocent image with clothes cover top to bottom but pop up with some juicy illegal headlines.

On not being in the meda radar, i'm just thankful that HJW at least have not been in media duscussion about being involved in fraud, cheating the govt or integrity issues. No matter how rich and popular a person gets what is there to shout abtt if there is a big question mark over this.

The male lead was 28 and 20 and female lead was only 20 years old and so cute. For me, I don't believe that Hajiwon can perform herself as a young women on 20 years old. Anyway, I will waiting to watch this drama to compare them.

A true fan supports her decisions in choosing every projects. This is the first time that she will act as a doctor since her debut and she's working very hard to properly portray her character. It doesnt matter if she's an auntie or even a mother in the drama coz the important things is that she delivers the true message of the whole drama and show her versatility in acting.
She's a very passionate and dedicated actress that shares her knowledge with her co-workers and im sure she will also learn from the new generation of actors/actressess.
Im giving this drama a benefit of the doubt. Let's hope and pray for their success. AJA!

Obviously there is a gender discrimination. By the way HJW is not yet forty, As Ive said before, MBC is a shitty station based on my observation of her previous drama there. Ive already voiced my concern earlier before the co stars are named. I just keep my fingers crossed that MBC doesnt treat this drama as a promotion platform for these idols.
Having said all the above, I believe HJW has no problem handling these casting thrown at her. She is a versatile actress, having covered a whole spectrum of genres rom com, melo, saguek in both movies and dramas and getting plenty of recognitions for it. So, what is this to her. And please dont bring in the personal lives of so and so, like KTH, xyz here for discussion as they are not relevant. We are talking about things related to this drama as this is a drama thread.

She is so freaking beautiful and sexy about any man over 16yrs of age would feel his heart flutter or other parts bounce if he saw her walk past in a sleek dress. She is hotter than 99.5% of the world's women, so it isn't unusual that young actors better known than these two have said they want to work with her. The ship from USA came to my hometown and went to small islands nearby to provide free medical services. Doctors, nurses, armies, and more went to the islands and running clinics and if the patients have serious disease or need surgery, they will bring the patients into the hospital ship (by boat or helicopter). I wonder if this drama will be a bit like that. The point is it's a memorable memory. I think I will watch this drama esp Ha Jiwon and Minhyuk in it ^^

Nami Jun 17 2017 5:26 am CJH trash .. I am also a fan of Choi Jinhyuk but i am glad that he declined this drama because of Ha Ji Won is apart from him for more than 8 years It's so difficult to believe in romance scene. I prefer to see him in another drama with suitable female lead.

I believe if it comes to romance, there is no age gap limit. I just hope their acting would be good. I know Ha Ji Won would good amazing no matter what drama.

I'm not sure if he will definitely be the male lead, but I'm hoping this somehow works. I have been waiting for Ha Ji Won to come out with a new drama for quite some time.

Past Kdramas with stories that have been featured before elsewhere have not done well at all. Comments were extremely rude on remakes.
