Lee Whi (Yoon Si-Yoon) is a handsome prince and popular with women. He is talented in poetry and painting. Lee Whi doesn't have interest in becoming the king, unlike his older brother Lee Kang (Joo Sang-Wook). Lee Kang is highly ambitious and aspires to become the king. Lee Whi and Lee Kang both fall in love with Ja-Hyun (Jin Se-Yun). She is beautiful and comes from a prestigious family.

Laura Feb 04 2025 9:50 pm Well this is a fictional story based on true historical characters & incidents . After watching queen Inu I understand whu this is just fiction . Real history was so tragic . Lee Kangs Character who was written with King Sejo is not really that brutal and both are biological sons of queen that little king is a teenager instead of a baby little king & main leads character get executed while king sejo survives. In a way its nice they protrayed another way of reimagination how it should happen. Rarely grand princes really act as their role . Even they dont want throne officially they are pushed for their survival & by society
Hafsah Jan 28 2024 7:53 am Currently on ep 6 and I had to pause to check the review of this drama, because I was getting doubtful abt the queen being the real mother of the villain prince, like this prince is screaming loneliness!!! He just want to be loved, I actually like all the cast , but I find myself getting drawn to the villain prince, like there shouldn't be favouritism among ones kid, see the way the queen is protecting the first and the last son over the second son is too much, and she's so obvious abt it, if she had shown the affection towards the villain prince, he wouldn't have been easily swayed by the uncle...I'm more interested in the bromance and motherly affection of this drama compare to the romance and I hope to get what I want by the end

Park Min Dec 19 2023 12:49 pm The spoiler/teaser introduction and that first episode in general left a bad taste in my mouth. There was no need to show moments from 10 episodes later this early, if their intent was to try to hook the viewers by showing spoilers then they failed. And don't even get me started on that loathsome love triangle that seemed to stain the entire drama. The pacing was all over the place—slow moments that dragged on forever and irrelevant sidetracking. The whole sibling rivalry angle was given a generic development. The not so good brother tried to justify himself but the writer didn't put an ounce of effort into that. On another note, Yoon Shi Yoon looked weird with his baby beard.
Nina May 29 2023 12:29 am Although I still can't move on in Jin Se Yeon and Kim Min Gue team-up but I will try to watch this drama for Jin Se Yeon because I enjoyed her performance in Queen: Love And War, and it suprise this drama and QLAW is same director. This director seems to trust Jin Se Yeon, no wonder she is really good in sageuk. Honestly not familiar in the actor male lead in this drama..I think he is not popular, but I know the second male lead, I saw him in Borah Deborah.. I saw the comments below but I don't care in the criticism because whatever kind of Se Yeon character in this drama she is really suits in sageuk, it proves that in the good rating.

There is no point if I listen to the haters here, JSY is the best actress, I like her performance she's the main reason that's why I watched this drama, if she's not a female lead here, I wouldn't be interested watching it, because I haven't watched any male lead dramas.

LightShine Sep 12 2022 8:38 am I only watched this drama because of Jin Se Yeon, no doubt she really suits the historical genre because of her precious charm this drama is one of the highest rating in TV Chosun she is really Queen of historical drama same as her other historical project. Oh, wii..here again nothing has changed the bitter commenters are still spread negativity in FL and they always target the weaknesses just like in other dramas, don't mind them guys it's still up to you whether you like the drama or not, don't hesitate in bad comments maybe this drama is not cup of tea of others but this is highly recommended and have a happy ending...

If you are looking for an average romantic story & you love the actors then it is for you , but if you are looking for a real strong historical drama then I don't recommend it..

Very happy he is paired with Yoon Na-Gyeom who is on the same par as Lee Kang that is to do what they want in order to get what they want. Must say Lee Kang and Yoon Na-gyeom a perfect match. Rooting for Lee Hwi and Sung Ja-hyun to be together. Cannot believe and imagine Sung Deuk-sik is Sung Ja-hyun brother. Sung Deuk-sik has no consideration whatsoever for his sister. He is the type who will sell out his sister if it means he will get an upper hand in getting what he wants from Lee Kang. Still at early episode and rooting for Hwi and Hyun to be together no matter what

after watching this, i became fan of Yoo Si yoon with beard :) He looks so good with it.. he became more manly. And Plus points for the Kissing scenes :)
And of course, Jin se yun is so pretty and i like her acting.

Based on the synopsis, this drama have two elements that I least like in Kdrama which is historical and love triangle.. But after almost 2 years I was hesitant to watch this drama, at last I give a try because of the lead actor and actress is my favorite.. After wasting 20 hours of my precious time, my reaction is WWWOOOOWWW, this drama really superb.. Their love story really WOW( I don't have any word to describe because its so amazing)..
p/s: If I can travel through time and meet myself during this drama finished airing, I'm gonna smack my head and say "이 바보같은 자식"
Kimmy Oct 27 2019 5:32 pm This drama was beautiful to be honest.it was never boring or dull. The relationship between Lee Hwi and Ja Hyun was also really beautiful and sweet, though i felt it was a bit rushed and became too deep without much development. I must also admit that throughout the story my heart bled for the villain more than for the main characters. Joo Sang Wook played his character very well and he was the charming bad guy who only just wanted to be loved and was very lonely. I felt that no one understood him until of course at the very end when it was already too late. Nd i loved Roo Si Gae like crazy so much that at times i even loved her more than the lead actress.. that being said, i didnt completely fall in love with the leads,especially the female lead as i felt her character just didnt have much purpose except for the love line, but i love Jin Se Yun i guess this disappointment was because i watched her as a strong female lead in flower in prison so to see as this girl who only cared about a man and wasnt strong enough was kind of disappointing.. overall, it was a good show with one of the best romances in historical dramas.

The story itself is nice, so at the next project there will be relatable make up character

I didn't know how well he'd do as the bad guy - but wow! His performance in this is absolutely riveting! Plus, he's still beautiful.

The cast and the story was really great , everything was good from the beginning till the end. I really want to thank the writer for this story which contain a beautiful wisdom. Lee Kang are best also Yoon Na-Gyeom as a antagonist they are good tandem... Ggeut-Dan & Sung Deuk-Sik are cute tandem... Jin Se-Yun best acting and also Yoon Si-Yoon In the Historical Drama I watch This is excellent, not just the ending but also every episode you will learn about it... i vote for best dramas in 2018 this Grand Prince drama...

In this drama he showed another character that i hated, loved, Sympathies and cursed at him. I was realy touched when he was strong in front of the world and very weak in front of his love

fallingstars May 13 2018 11:18 am I read all the comments and it makes me want to do one. Everyone has a right to have their own opinion and I think this drama is really good. Not without flaws, of course, but really good. at first, I was kinda doubtful with Jin Se-Yun after watching her work in DS. But in this drama, I can see her improving much and actually has a great chemistry with Yoon Shi-Yoon. The two main actors are fantastic. Their deep emotions are perfectly conveyed in each scenes. The other supporting roles are superb and make the drama more amazing. The musics are wonderful. Especially the opening theme. The main flaw, though, the plot. It is kind of dragging. Some dialogues are even repetitive, made me skipping some scenes. The romance (the main romance) needs to be longer especially the courtship, in my opinion. I feel like SJH has more screentimes with LK rather LH. Some scenes also dont support or help the development of the characters' character. Yet, I really love the banter beetween SJH and LH when they are in the light mood. I love how SJH made LH flustered so many times with her wit and curiousity. I love her stubbornness and straightforward action. She is strong yet delicate, honest and loyal to her feelings (to the point near to selfish)yet so kind-hearted, brash yet educated. I love how LH characters remind so much with Peeta M. from The Hunger Games. He started as a "perfect" pretty boy character with all his kindness, innocent, and delicate personalities. But after going through the hardships and almost dying second times, he changed. In the end, though, he was still the same guy with his too kind heart. ♥♥ I ached the interactions between LK and the Mother. It exposed the problem that many families and children struggle with. I ramble too much but let me to say this... This drama is worthy too watch for me.

I also learned that favoring one another can lead to unfathomable greed of seeking attention. The ost's are amazing and the actings are solid. The last episode made me cry. This is the reason why I like kdrama so much, because they make us understand the antagonists, not only we will love the protagonist but also the antagonist. I salute this drama.

In the first half of the drama, it was like watching a puppy get kicked around by the Joo Sang Wook character.
In reality, in those times, the Joo Sang Wook character was probably a better fit for that particular time period. You had to be pretty Machiavellian, in order to survive those times, as a royal.
And then, throughout the drama, I had the sense that the MC (played by Yoon Si Yoon) pretty much lost every single battle with the Joo Sang Wook character. He was pretty much outwitted and outplayed by the Joo Sang Wook character, in every confrontation.
And even at the end, it wasn't much better. The MC wins, not by skill or outwitting his adversary, but by some weird deus ex machina element, where he somehow wins in a situation where he should, by all rights, have been utterly defeated.
I think the fundamental problem was that the script was very weak. Again, it was like watching a loveable puppy get kicked around for most of the drama, and somehow miraculously win at the end, for some unfathomable reason. Acting, I would give solid A's throughout. For the script, I would give a C-, as it seemed like the writer didn't know how to plot the drama in a way that engaged the audience, and yet was basically believable.
And that royal v. royal sword scene at the end was just ridiculous and silly and strained credulity.

Yue Apr 24 2018 8:33 am I wasn't sure how I felt about Joo Sang-Wook being the bad guy because he tend to be the good guy in most of the things he had been in and that I've seen. But damn... that was some brilliant acting on his part that I can't help to just hate the character. It also played a good contrast to YSY's character who's the polar opposite, though at the same time you can see the similarities between the two characters as well. They definitely play off each other well and that was good. And as someone who went in not sure about JSY, I'm happy that she proved me wrong. I like the quite strength and also the bullheadedness of her character as well as how it played off the male characters. She wasn't completely hopeless and that was good.

She doesn't turn into a full-badass-mode which is really story-wise, in my opinion. Te pace of the story is also going smoothly...it hurts me to see Kang's current condition. The scene of him and his uncle in episode 16 breaks my heart. I don't know why..it is not even a sad scene XD

From hero in other drama's to a villian here is amazing. On the other hand, Yoon Si Yoon and Jin Se yun acting is very weak, even though they are the leads of this drama.
BR39 Apr 16 2018 3:28 am This drama has some good actors but their efforts are wasted by a poor screenwriter who does not seem to know where she is going. She give us one choppy and simplistic episode after another. I dread the thought of the final episode, which is where otherwise very good k-dramas can disappoint.
Still, there are good actors. Among them, actress Kim Mi-Kyung is particularly good at making the best of a weak script. She consistently delivers strong, warm, moving, believable moments from episode to episode. She has a sense of humor too.
This drama is not a good use of my time.

Many actors make a valiant effort to rescue the drama. They can't be listed onen alllhere. I find Kim Mi-kyung particularly good

Nam gyeong is her friend but she betrayed her due to her greediness. Lee Kang also blind due to his greediness. The protagonist that I don't like is the king's mom she knew that hwi doesn't want the throne, but she force it. Poor hwi.

If you are wondering if you should watch it, if it's a good one, well, believe me, just when you are going through angst and you are crying, you know it's a good k-drama. Others can say it's boring or lacks chemistry, but only you can decide on your part! Don't let anyone interfere with your decision!

Just ignore those haters. if 1% hate you, there are 10% willing to love you..

The sisterhood (mistress, maid and protector) is just what I am expecting as they have to depend on each other to fight against the traitors in order to save the prince. hwihyun couple :) Apr 10 2018 10:52 pm I like hwihyun or whistle ysy and jsy sweet couple, I'am not bother to bitter trolls out there, actually this is the first time I like ysy donggu to his partner, I appreciate ysy and jsy have perfect chemistry they like husband and wife, if you want to watch their GP drama bts you feel their comfortable touch to each other, about for acting of jsy like other said jsy is really improved in this drama with donggu that was true :), for dear viewers if you appreciate this drama don't bother to listening the unpleasant comments because that is false observations, I admit this drama is not fully perfect but all actors and actresses i mean( casting)are good and the scenery was great and our otp lovers are perfect.. for haters or bitter forever pathetic:( more success to GrandPrince drama and GP team fighting!

AB Apr 10 2018 1:05 pm To be honest, the weakest part of this drama is the love story. It is completely unbelievable. Be it between the 3 leads, or with any other characters. Romance? Newsflash! Romance is not just skindeep.. whoever thinks kisses indicates chemistry cant be more mistaken! Yoon Shi Yoon have more chemistry with Kim Sae Ron who is half his age in Mirror of the Witch, and they didnt even share any kiss in the whole drama! Here, despite so many kisses, hugs, skinship, completely unlike a normal sageuk, yet i still cant believe that Hwi truly loves Jahyun! He has the least chemistry with Jin Se Yeon when compared to all his ex-costars, to say the truth. Though i dont think its because of him, but more because of Jin Se Yeon who is just mostly expressionless.
The second truth of the weakness in this drama is Jin Se Yeon. No matter how many ppl say ‘she is improving’, well, she is still weak, still expressionless, still cant act. Her ‘fainting’ act was so laughable.. turning your head in a round? Man... an amateur could do that. If not for the director’s smart maneuvering of the camera angles, it would’ve been even worst. Totally couldnt understand how she ever become lead.. the harsh truth is, many people skip this drama soon as they see her name. She should just never act again. Period! Stop spoiling dramas and do something else!
The third truth is this writer’s work is weak. Her characters are not fully developed, mostly one-dimentional, except for Hwi. I dont know if its the actor who added depth to the character in their portrayal, but other than Hwi who shows growth and room for more developments, the others are mostly one-dimentional. The worst of all is Jahyun. She is actually just a spoilt & selfish character who only cares about her own desires, her own happiness. I find nothing to admire in this character. Every decision she makes, every action she do, is for her ownself, without caring if it affects other people. If she is shown to be kind to less unfortunate souls, like distributing food to the poor, or doing some charity work, i might like her more. As it is, she do nothing for other people, but rather make demands as if she is ‘entitled’ to it, completely inconsiderate. The worst character i ever encounter. Definitely not ‘Queen’ material.
It’s just sad that this drama ended up this way. Had so much hope for this drama and was excited to see the collaboration of Joo Sang Wook and Yoon Shi Yoon, who are both great in acting. But the center of their conflict, Jin Se Yeon is not believable as the core of their rivalry, making the romance lacking, and the story losing its main plot. However, both guys look great in historical costumes, and Yoon Shi Yoon showed some great action scenes.. worth a watch if you can stomach Jin Se Yeon, and dont mind the weak romance, or just keep your eyes on the two awesome male leads.

desukedo Mar 27 2018 10:47 am Just finished ep8, and it was hardcore sad. I am now a fan of the leading lady. Everyone was complaining about her acting early on, but she is superb in this episode. The characters are likeable, and the females are badass - good and bad ones - in which they won’t back down to any male characters. The secondary characters all bring in fun and complexity to the story. Of course, Donggu, you never cease to amaze me with your acting!

The last time I watched his story base was in The Princess' Man...another amazing drama as well, indeed. Apart from all the guess, this drama is a must watching one. I can't agree more with the comments about the fast-paced plot and story-wise, the intense moments, beautiful romance, amazing OST, everything...And of course Yoon Shi Yoon's superb acting..I think he's one of the few actors who look amazing as Joseon fine men beside Lee Jun Ki, Park Si Hoo, and Yoo Seung Ho ? Joo Sang Wook here also looks so handsomely badass wewwww

Storyline-wise, well saeguk drama mostly revolve around issue you'd expected, power, love triangle etc. I think I like the pace of this drama. Not too slow not too fast. I read somewhere viewers are worried of the main actress performance. I must say, its not so bad and with yoon shiyoon as her pairing, you may rest assured they manage to balance each other. 100% recommended. Do watch grand prince.

Prince Anpyeong supported his young nephew but was later killed by his brother on the supposed conspiracy act of treason.
If this drama does follow this storyline, I will cry so much.

And this kdrama is giving me a headache. I read a comment here that there is a possibility that it may based on king sejo' story. Upon reading the life of sejo, i can say that there is really a similarity i wanted to prove that it ia not, cause my two favorite leading couple here might not wnd up together.

The story is good and both male leads are doing a fine job portraying their characters ... Now I need to wait every week and it's killing me *ughhh ... GRAND PRINCE FIGHTING!

And the 1st scene of him walking in the snow was so good...no words were spoken but his face tells it all...hope the dramas story will get better and better as the romance was fast paced.

I just enjoy the storyline. I love the conflicting feelings Price Hwi makes whenever he thinks of older brother. The chemistry between the characters is also great. Obviously the production team had selected really talented artists. Joo Sang Wook is absolutely fitting his role as a jealous greedy monarch. Jin Se Yun is wonderful in giving different reactions to the Princes. They surely established who makes her heart flutter and who creeps her out.
I personally like this drama, it's arrival is just right because I have been craving some sageuk drama for some time now.

1. the female actress has exactly the same look whether she is angry or trying to act cute. I cannot decide which is which. 2. the music accompaniment was nauseating. Some parts I almost puked out when the producer put a VERY dramatic piece of music for a simple and uninteresting dialogue. I was like, "Was I supposed get EMO over this???" 3. director lacks development for many scenes. Like I don't even know at what POINT in time the princes fell in love with the female lead. 4. It's like a copy of Queen of 7 days, Saimdang diary and My Sassy girl. Except that the feisty girl has every rights to be a spoilt brat in My Sassy Girl cos she's THE princess. This one goes around pissing princes off without considering she might have her head chopped off. 5. Lastly, if one professes to be artistic, at least show you have the sophistication in manners as well.
Sorry if l upset anyone here BUT I was really really looking forward to this show and hung on up to the 4th episode. Seems like my mind has overcome my dedication for Kdrama and won over ......

JSY, until now you improved a lot and keep going to became better actress. you have amazing senior around you and keep learning and gain knowledge from them. go go fighting!! JSY fighting!! How they were abusing emaciated horses with no obvious care just has me speechless. It seems rather noone noticed the prominent ribs and hipbones, which should not be visible especially in horses with a thick winter coat. The saddlemarks on the horse Yoon Shi Yoon was riding were by no means insignificant but rather the result of continuus wounds from the saddle over a long time. It is just disgusting they would get away with that on national TV.

Am sure it's a great overall story but the presentation sucks,the drama just sucks. I miss seven day queen and dramas like Don't You,so good,this drama is just a joke. But we'll I guess to each is own.

Only seen first episode but this already seem right up my street. Hopefully it unfolds into a nice and logical drama, not with many of those unnecessary plot twists and plots that dont make sense in the end.

If u watch their latest trailer, YSY's face came out first and his face came out again at the end saying he will return alive. His name is also out first. So obviously the story is centred around his character, Lee Hwi. :)
