Cheryl Jul 07 2025 7:30 pm This is one of the best K dramas I have ever watched. For me, everything was perfect. I find that I love a drama that centers friendship over romantic dramas. They are the ones that seem to touch my heart the most. The friendship between the three leads is magic and as the drama progresses and the story of the past lives they shared together, unfold, it just gets more beautiful. It makes me think about how much freedom can mean to a country and the people in it and the lengths some would go to to protect their freedom. Everything about it was perfect to me, the dialogue left nothing unsaid and the OST was so beautiful. The last three episodes had some of the most beautiful, poignant scenes that really touched my soul. I am so glad that I found this drama from 2017. It's truly difficult to put into words the feelings I have for this drama because it touches my heart so deeply. For me, Chicago Typewriter is a masterpiece!

Rewatching this after 5 years is quite nostalgic, brings me to think how new kdramas are loosing their touch. 2023 only a handful like glory, taxi driver and revenant can carry intense genre. Anw saw people saying female actress is bit over the board. 1930s tough and novel part i couldn't agree with she kept us on our toes, while 2017 Jeon seol may seem bit dramatic look at how her character was asked to portray. Lim soo Jung did good in that aspect but I wished there was more to Jeon Seol and Han Seju romantic aspect after their enemies to lovers start. Idk felt like the chemistry was lacking so the production treated water carefully.

Hwi-yeong, Shin Yul, Jeon Seol, and all the comrades of the Joseon Youth Liberation Alliance sacrificed themselves for the sake of their country. This drama made me realized that as a citizen of the Philippines, I should value the independence that was bestowed upon my country. I should never put it into waste. I have Big Respect to all the fighters(heroes indeed) who fought for the independence of my country. They will never ever be forgotten just like this drama. I will keep it in my heart until next life and if the word “forever” exists. :)

Drama nowadays soo boring and dragged the drama too much until i skipped many part. But to me this drama make me curious all the time. I didnt skipped any part. Because every scene are important to watch and meaningful. I love their friendship so much. Mr Shin Yul was not greed to had Su Ryeon. This drama are so worth to watch. I love this drama so much. You Ah In and Ko Gyung Pyo did a phenomenal job as Han Se Joo and Yoo Jin O.

Jeon Seol suited Lim Soo Jung. However, there's still room for improvement on her acting.

I liked the story. It's rough on the edges because of the actress of Jeon Seol.

Other than that, it would've been perfect.

Christina Pink Apr 06 2021 1:22 pm I just ended watching the complete episodes and I have no idea from where should I start. Let's talk about the characters then. Both the male leads have a very distinct character and are somewhat opposite in nature, but what intrigued me the most was the Female lead wasn't given a typical "female" role, although there are some dramatic outbursts of her, it somehow feels very natural thus keeping with the overall tone of the novel. My absolute favourite part was when she took revenge by killing every Japanese official and traitors. That comeback is worth a thousand whistles.

And the soundtrack is great - fits perfectly to the story, especially "Time Walk" and "Be With Me" are just vibing.

KT Mar 08 2021 7:10 am One of the underrated drama. I’ve watched this maybe 4 years ago when it wasn’t on Netflix yet. I was totally hooked with the storyline apart from being Yoo Ah In’s fan, i felt the storyline is very fresh and different from other typical kdrama stories back in those days. I kept on recommending friends about this drama and so i watched again on Netflix. I have to say the drama really gets interesting aftee episode 6, and as i watched the second time, i felt there were parts were Yoo Ah In shouted a lot and might set people off from continuing to watch, but trust me, stick with it as it will only gets better.

What a beautiful story, and so well acted and produced. This show should have won every award out there. The screenwriter, Jin Soo-Wan, built a place I wanted to know more about and made me love the real people who gave their lives to fight oppression and occupation. Everyone who takes freedom for granted should watch Chicago Typewriter.

She could carry the fashion and the face of the 30's era with aplomb, can sing for real, and is a perfect feminine foil for the bromance and gentle machismo of the two male lead characters. It is a total package, it has one of the best plot. From the characters, each of them portrayed it very well, my fave trio. And Yoo Ah-in will not really disappoint you, I can’t see other actors portraying his character. The setting, from his house to the 30s scenerio. How I wished yoo ah-in will portray another character in this kind of setting and I hope there would be more like this drama in the future. And the OSTs, how perfect it was. Good thing there is an English soundtrack which I can sing with out mumbling hahahha and is my total fave now Satellite.

Maybe I kinda regret skipping this drama but good thing I have just watched this, which is for me very relevant these days in our situation of my country where our government lacks patriotism. My favorite scene is when they took photos in Gwanghwamun and before that Seju and Shin Yul/ Yoo Jin-o talked how thankful they were in their ancestors who fought freedom. Because of that I admired how strong their patriotism. It just annoys me that my country esp. our government lacks this as if they weren’t thankful enough how our ancestors fought for our freedom and independence where a lot of countries already invaded us. If our heroes back then also have the chance to be at a present time, they will be really disappointed. Anyway that scene where they took a photo will always be a fave. I love how this portrays friendship and patriotism.

Also it has the best kiss scene I’ve watched. ?

BENCH Jul 03 2020 7:35 am Oh my! @Veeveevee we're on the same boat. I also watched this 3 years ago as an on-going drama but I dropped it for new ones. However, I just came back to this show and binged-watched it. This is so amazing. I might say this is a roller-coaster ride of emotions. I somehow felt nostalgic with this drama. It could be because of the 1930's vintage, but that is not just the case. The whole storyline pierces me because of its rawness and purity. This is the type of series that will leave a place in a persons' heart. It has the same feeling as star gazing at the night sky or watching the burning sunset. It also has that feeling where you wander for your life dreaming about the future. Overall, it really triggers my longing for something to happen in my life. I am really grateful that I came back continuing for this story to unfold. For now, I could say that this is really worth it. So Everyone should give this drama a try.

Veeveevee Jul 02 2020 12:59 pm I watched this as an on-going drama but the first few episodes did not captivate me that I decided to drop it. 3 years later, I don't even know why I got crazy back then for not being captivated by this masterpiece.

Each episode was amazing--- everything about this drama is just perfect. The brilliant acting was delightfully paired with superb cinematography and beautiful OSTs.

I have to admit, the 1930s scenes lured me in and I'm in a huge Hwiyeong hole that I don't ever want to get out of. His hair, wit, and radiating intelligence just made my knees wobble each time he appears on screen. But having Shin Yul in the present-day scenes in his suits was just pure eye candy.

I had a lot of tears towards the ending too!! The trio's story was truly heartbreaking, and the patriotism conveyed in this series is enough to shaken your privileged life.

To anyone who is having second thoughts in watching this drama, THIS IS THE SIGN THAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.

Claire Jun 26 2020 12:49 am Chicago Typewriter has a very small share of imperfections, that I can't seem to point out anymore because everything made up for it. It was a rollercoaster ride and despite my preference for the 1930s setting, it was nice to have the other side of the story serve as a breather *most of the time, at least; it did have its own angst*.

Actors did an amazing job. I definitely saw the difference between the two lives and how invested they were in their roles. They were all captivating.

And because I love Yoo Ah In so much, I can't leave him out of my long comment. I can't explain how amazing of an actor he is. As always, he's a breath of fresh air whenever he takes on a new role.

His character from the 1930s took more people in than the one in the present time, probably because of the hair and the being of a person at war, fighting for their independence, making him more and more attractive.

Both of his characters are so attractive, and of course, like everyone, I was definitely whipped for his 1930s role. His visuals, attitude, intelligence, diligence, and responsibility were on point.

There was a point where I'm in literal tears because of the tragedies, but find myself smile for a few seconds to admire how swoon-worthy his visuals and attitude is despite all of the tragedies. I guess it's Yoo Ah In's power to make me cry then go uwu for a second then cry again.

I finished it in 2 days. I could've finished it within a day if I didn't rewind a lot of scenes to admire Yoo Ah In.

Hwi Yeong's last farewell was one of the many scenes that I rewatched a LOT, before moving on to the next scene. I knew that dramas like this will break your heart (Mr. Sunshine thought me well), but if only we saw the trio happy and free from anxiety, in a liberated Joseon, it would've been perfect. But it is set in an era where they had to fight for independence, so I guess I have to get over it and accept that it is the realistic way to end it. Hwi Yeong's devotion will definitely leave me broken for a long time. I wish I don't get THIS attached for Korean dramas, it's such a bother to not get over about what I just watched every single time, for a very long time.

I guess people might say it is an overhyped drama because people have praised it so much later on that some have become skeptic whether or not it really is worth it. So with that thought in mind, I will not recommend nor promise you that this is a good drama because it is something that you have to find yourself. Clear your thoughts and take a chance.

Plot is unique and the storyline was nice but its boring. Its not different from goblin where they go to a different setting and its not different from tomorrow with you (tomorrow with you is far better than chicago typewriter) where they both have time travel plots. Ok tomorrow with you has a more simple plot and setting but the drama was well escalated, As for chicago typewriter i barely remember any details since i watched this like 3yrs ago? But it was rather dragging tbh

From the storyline, cast, cinematography, to ost this drama is a masterpiece. I'm so frustrated that this drama never got big. As a big fan of kdrama, with more than 120 dramas been watched, this is one of the best drama ever. Fantasy kdrama usually have at least one hole in the storyline, but this is a perfect sample that fantasy can makes sense even in melodrama. And Seo Hui Young is the best character ever made in kdrama. I'm falling for him

Im kinda regret bcs i just started watching it in 2020. Many people had mentioned about how good was the drama, but i didnt feel to watch it because of their poster lol hahaha. I thought it was going to be an old type of drama but my perception was wrong. Now i really love it! This kind of drama need more recognition!!! Please watch it if you are hesitate to watch, it really worth your time!

meridienne Jan 02 2020 11:15 am Yoo Ah-In had tons of charisma with his costar in Secret Affair, but zero, in my humble opinion, with Lim Soo-Jung. Their kiss in the older era was hard to watch. Ah-in did, however, have tons of chemistry with Ko Gyung-Pyo. They really had a beautiful love/hate relationship, and Ko Gyung-Pyo was adorable.

Joey Dec 07 2019 8:47 pm Loveee this drama, binged watch this entire series in 3 days because it just was so good!! I was so lucky to have not missed this gem. The story was captivating and I like how the author play out the past and the present (as well as the romance - it was so different and natural compared to other dramas).

Yoo ah in is a phenomenal actor, this is my first time seeing his work and I was taken aback. I really liked how he differentiated his past and current characters. Probably will start watching six flying dragons because of him (and the good reviews).

Lim soo jung, I saw her in WWW and her character was so different to this. her chemistry with you ah in was great!! Seems like I would be continuing with WWW (as I dropped it early on).

Go kyung pyo I watched many of his dramas before but this character really captured me the most. My heart always aches when I see him and I always tear up in most of his scenes. Not to mention his bromance with yoo ah in and love for lim soo jung was so fun and real.

Definitely will be watching this again!!

Lim soo jung...i was amazed at her acting because when i saw WWW she was a totally diff character..well similar to her past life in chicago typewriter..her chemistry with yoo ah in was perfect..looking forward to another drama by the duo

Ko gyung pyo.. Have seen few of his dramas but i was mesmerized by this the most..esp the way he took the friendship..i wish he didnt reincarnate as a ghost tho..but han se ju would have died if not...just love the drama it was a bomB!!!!

but i finished this drama a few days ago and im facing sEriOuS withdrawal syndrome i just cant put into words how much this drama touched my heart and made me feel wayy too many emotions at once my heart ached at that ending and hui young and soo hyeons love was heartbreaking i literally sobbed for hours

this drama is easily the best drama i have ever watched from the storyline to the humour romance fantasyish wardrobe setting ost and everything was so amazing i keep watching the past life scenes again when they were happy and start crying bc of how they ended up and soo hyeon singing was so angelic omg and the alleyway kiss was everything *on repeat* basically i just cannOt believe that this precious precious GEM of a drama is so underrated it makes me so sad that its not getting the recognition it deserves but seeing the comments here makes me so happy that theres people that feel the way i do about this beautiful meaningful masterpiece:)

(Jin Soo Wan's Kill Me, Heal Me comes second too ㅋㅋㅋ) Great casting, great chemistry (as friends and lovers), great dialogue, and great story! Love how Jin Soo Wan wrapped the story of patriotism in such an unconventional way that you will not sense an in-your-face feeling.

If you have doubts in watching this drama, then I hope you try still to and understand why the hell we are so into this. It has been almost two years since I first watched it (planning to rewatch again btw) and it is still on the top of the dramas I have watched. ?

I'm not kidding with my opinion, I'm a heavy K-Drama watcher and can easily skip a drama if something doesn't interest me at the slightest while watching. But this Chicago Typewriter is one of the best k-drama ever made. Jin Soo-Wan writer-nim IS A GENIUS, indeed. You can't expect another drama that turns time back and forth as smoothly as Chicago Typewriter, where every secret unfolds very well. It even taps the sentimental part of Koreans, which is about liberating their own country from Japan, and mixing it with romance and friendship. The relationship between leads are beautiful, yet very painful. I worship this storyline so much!

I love how Yoo Ah In portrays Heo Sui Young, a leader and a writer at same time (2 responsibilities that you may say need opposite skill-set - one is strategic thinking and one is emotional thinking). Don't even mention his masculine voice and his sexiness, oh God :""" He is one of the best character ever made. I hate Han Se Ju at first, but as he knows his past and his fellow comrades, he becomes a more likable character. I really love Yoo Ah In in this drama <3 <3 :"

Talk about main woman lead, Lim Soo Jung is always the best to play such a weak at body yet strong at heart. She seems fragile but ambitious, thus she fits character Ryu Su Yeon the best. Even when she plays Jeon Seol, she can make her an obsessive fan, but still has intelligent charm. Jeon Seol gives the best of her in this drama. I always love Lim Soo Jung <3

And.... The lead role; Shin Yul a.k.a Yoo Jin Oh, played by one of the most flexible actor out there, Go Kyung Pyo! Without his contribution in this story, believe me there will be nothing between our two main leads X)) Even though Shin Yul did many wrong things as he is a short-minded person, but Yoo Jin Oh completely changes, he is even wiser than Han Se Ju (the reincarnated version of his leader). He leads the story very well. I can't imagine someone else playing this role.

Big big thanks to everyone involved in Chicago Typewriter! This is a very pleasant experience to watch this drama. I love it to bits.

For me, the story kicked-off on the 5th episode and from there, everything just turned out FANTASTIC! Though Lim Soo-Jung was not that great for me (they could have chosen a better actress) but the male actors (Yoo Ah-In, Ko Gyung-Pyo and Kwak Si-Yang) were just so AWESOME! Particularly YOO AH-IN, I have watched almost all of his dramas and movies and he's so MARVELOUSLY a brilliant actor !!! I hope to see him more ... in movies and dramas (",) CONGRATULATIONS to the entire production of Chicago Typewriter !!!

This drama deserves a lot of recognition and high ratings for having a unique story, the Actors deserves an award for this. I laughed, I cried, it touched my heart for their friendship and patriotism.

I like to give this Drama a Perfect Score if not only not for this following reasons 1.The Evil Sister of the Stalker was never caught 2. I had high hopes that Yoo Jin-O has already been reincarnated in the Present but he was in coma state who just woke after finishing the novel 3. I was really shipping Yoo Jin-O and Ma Bang-Jin I want them to end up with each other

Although I like Han Se-Joo but the character of Yoo Jin-O was the one who stood out the most for me even Gyun Woo (the dog) he was so cute! Lastly I have a lot of HATE for Baek Tae-Min and his Mom hands down for the Actors for portraying their roles so well.

It made me crazy as different emotions would be felt through the entire drama. I laughed, I cried, I was touched of the strong bond of their friendship and patriotism. And the OSTs were in synchronize with my tears!!! I was literally sobbing for 2 hours because of this drama..

The thing that I'm not digging for is how slow the drama moves and there are many scenes keep repeating. If you can be patient and watch towards the end, you'll be satisfy of the mystery.

I feel really bad for Shin Yul. In order to save the person he loves he had to betray his friend surely knowing that his friend will be captured. Hui Young then killed himself, how much in pain Yul would have be. After that he was carrying on his promise to his friend, but couldnt as the person he saved before killed him. I get that the author wants more intense part, but I still feel so bad for Yul. For sure hes my favorite character!

But this drama is so good and has a hook for every episode!! They manage to portray the message clearly and it seems like the stories they trying to tell are quite complicated but they still managed to brilliantly portray the drama in a way that viewers can understand. Excellent! Wonderful!! I also cant pin point any absurb stuff. The storyline is just perfect.

KPF Nov 02 2017 7:54 am I thought this was a historical drama so wasn't keen to watch it but it was in the top kdramas to watch. I decided to give it a go and did not regret it! Plot was good with a mix of romance, suspense and drama past and present. Love the camaraderie of the 3 leads. Even though both Yo Ah-In's roles had cool and arrogant personalities, there was a definite distinction in his acting of each character. I adore Go Kyung-Po's ghost character.

Se-Ju's house was daebak and so were the scenes in the working studio and bedrooms with wall to wall of books - you can't miss that this is a drama about writers.

One of the best dramas I have watched this year. it Is everything the reviews say - 5 stars.

Noia Oct 18 2017 3:24 am The only thing I didn't like on this drama is Kwak Si-Yang playing an evil role. I admire him from Oh My Ghost, and seeing him as a bad guy here breaks my heart. Nevertheless, this drama is soOooOOOoo good. Not a typical kdrama series. I like how they incorporate the present from the past. It has nice storyline. This kdrama should be highly recommended. I'm giving it five stars.

This has to be the best drama this year. Ya better vote for this drama to be in the top list for the award ceremony!!! Sho, I swear. This drama is a masterpiece literally. I love how this drama actually have a STORY LINE and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Every episode kept me invested, interested, and hooked on, as there are cliffhangers and the story unfolds as the characters learn more every episode about the past. This drama is Very unique, different, plot twist, thriller, interesting, and omg educational as well too! I love watching Korean films based on the 1930s when Japan ruled Korea - and it was during the time of Korean Independence movement - with all the secret agencies and bonds. So interesting! I love watching these films that are based on history - though I admit they are biased, but you learn so much from every countries' point of view.

I love the music and the 1930s era! Learning about Korean's Independence movement and groups! The patriotism and learning how much they value that - is seen is this drama. I also see it in other music such as Arirang.

And damnnn Yoo Ah In, Lim Soo Jung, and Gyung Pyo's acting was SUPERB! Lim Soo Jung's comeback since a long time ago from Sorry I love You! She's a phenomenal actress!

It stood out from every other Korean drama I've watched all these years; words simply cannot even begin to describe how fantastic the plot was, or how stellar the acting was or how well directed every scene was in this drama.

It amazed me how each episode just kept even getting better than the last.

Each and every plot twist shook me and I grew to love the three lead characters more than I have ever liked any character in any drama or English TV show I've watched so far. I simply cannot get over the many jaw dropping moments I came across in this show, not the mention the fact that the script writers managed to beautifully integrate some great humor into this very deep and serious plot.

This drama is for those who are tired of the cliches and want something different. It's a mixture of many genres: mystery, historical, supernatural and some great romance and never left me bored for a single second.

I was itching to watch the next episode and dying to solve the many great mysteries within each episode; the ending was beautiful and satisfying on so many different levels.

Yoo Ah-In, Lim Soo- Jung and Ko Gyung- Pyo were ideal for their individual roles and will keep you on the edge of your seat with their marvelous acting.

In my opinion, Chicago Typewriter is must-see drama for all!

Rarely have I come across a series which has kept its central point of suspense alive till the end! The resolution is beautiful and the ending meaningful. The show evokes the same sense of wonder I first had when I had started watching dramas.

Yoo ah in is absolutely sensational in the dual roles of Han se Ju/seo hwi young and is ably supported by Lim soo Jung and Ko Hyung Pyo in a period/supernatural/moden fusion drama to remember. Kudos to the writer nim and the PD nim

The ost is superb and is well used throughout to create maximum impact. All the praise in the comments below is genuinely deserved for this show

It fits well in every scene and the storyline is original and beautifully heartbreaking. But one thing, the otp (Han Seju and Jeon Seol) didnt work for me. I mean, Yoo Ah In is really a great actor i have no problem with him but the Soojung is a bit awkward. Its hard to watch her acting all cutesy and sweet. But she's fine in other scenes. I really love the character of Kyungpyo here. He's the type of ghost I want to be around. Overall, I'll give this drama 9/10. It's great and worth your time.

This is my first time to watch his work but I know that he is a well known movie actor. Due to my exam, I finally finished it today. I have to say that I am 100% satisfied. I understand that this drama got a very low rating (despite being in sama time slot of Goblin and The K2, but even The K2 has a higher eating), maybe because of the not-so-popular actors (Im Soo Jung is more active in a movie) or a quite complicated plot. But, this is a superb piece of art! I love how the script is being well-written, makes me doesn't lose interest at all. And, the director did it well too! I am amazed by how this drama really makes me fall in love! I am totally in awe with this drama! Kudos to all actors, director, scriptwriter and all staffs who worked ao hard to create this drama!!! This is a drama that you totally should watch in 2017!! I also watched Goblin, but I have to admit that Chicago Typewriter is much better! I love how we get a not ambiguous ending and the superb 1930s set (Carpe Diem bar and Anastasia's song ❤). It also taught us to be grateful living in the liberated country. This drama also probably will be Yoo Ah In's last project since he exempted from military and I am certain he won't take any project for several years. ❤ Chicago Typewriter will be the first best Korean drama I've watched from now on. Go watch it everyone!

The cinematography is incredible. I think after Goblin and Descendants of the Sun this drama is the best when it comes to great cinematography. I loved the 1930s setting of the drama and I wished the entire drama and plot could have been that. Other than in movies I have never seen that 1930s Japanese occupation era in a drama.

The story line and the plot of the drama is novel. It was very worth to watch it as it was good difference. The ending was was indeed satisfying. However, I preferred if there was more romance.

Yoo Ah In’s acting was superb as always. I really liked Go Kyung-pyo’s character as well. I think he did well. Wasn’t a fan of the female lead however, she did justice to her character. Even though she was in her late 30s she was able to hide her age very well and get along with the two actors who are about 7–10 years younger.

I totally recommend it to everyone. It is a must watch drama of 2017.

Been dying to see him again after six flying dragons which left me wanting more though it's a 50 episode story. Idk, Ah in is such a good actor that will always leave you flabbergasted by all means.Haha. What more ? This drama also offered open arms the ever dashing Gyung-pyo . I must say he's the kind of guy that even you don't want to have a crush on but eventually ended up crushing and giggling over him like a teenage girl.lels. Well to be fair the first to second episode's were a bit blur that's difficult to pick up the trail however on the other side it's understandable and somehow acceptable enough for you to held unto your faith and patience since it's actually worth it.

At first, I thought I wouldn't like it and I was not really interested but I it turned out that my thought was completely wrong. The plot is really good and of course the actors have made it perfect. I love how this drama reminds us all that we all are lucky to be able to live in this liberated countries. Reminds us how much people in the past had sacrifice for everyone to live in a beautiful country with no fear and to be able to live freely. It's a wonderful and beautiful drama. Thank you.

PS. I love watching Yoo Ah In, every scene feels like those of cool music videos lol seriously though! I hope to watch more of him in the future!

Trinity Jun 14 2017 8:10 pm I am seriously in love with this drama, plot, and character development! The suspense, foreshadowing, flashbacks, and unfolding of story/characters, is beyond amazing. Now that is how you make a TV series. I feel like Korean dramas/films are shifting themes and its fascinating. From tear jerker, romance, and wayy too dramatic drama between families to more variety, comedy, suspense, thriller, etc.

Me personally, I like to watch tv series/films that are similar to the theme in this kdrama - suspense, thriller, based on real historical time periods, etc. something about the 1900s fascinates me - in all countries around the world. I find myself wanting to see more and more about the 1930s in the Japanese colonial period in Korea. I would loooove to see more films/tv series depicted in that time period to learn more about it, korean revolution, and why there is a separated Korean country now.. It is pretty unfortunate that Japan colonized Korea for a few decades and the lives lost... But its definitely interesting learning about revolutionary movements! I remember seeing other films that was depicted in this era as well ( ). I would love to see more korean films because they are short and meaningful - thinking abck to when I studied abroad to Korea and took a cinema class and viewed several korean films that are not on mainstream media.. Its pretty unfortunate that these amazing films arent being showcased and also because Korea doesnt allow it to be streamed outside of its country.... One film that is worthy to watch is Ode To My Father. Its such a meaningful film and very emotional and sad.... Family orientated and how society has shifted away from family...

Anyways, these characters/actress/actors were phenomenal and delivered well. I like how the story/plot unfolded and we slowly learned pieces of what happened in the past.

Aside from its awesome plot and character development through the series, what I like the most is it takes viewers to see war from a different perspective. How simple love and friendship story can be so poignant just because of different time period. Cinematography and OST are also on point.

In a nutshell, it's a drama that is worth watching even if you're not a Kdrama watchers (cause neither do I, but oh boy am I so glad to find this gem).

This drama sets a high bar and will stay for so long with me. It has substance, on top of its curious plot. The pain of having to set aside your personal feeling during war felt so real. And i love the characters development through the series. The technical side and ost of the drama is a huge bonus. Plus the three main lead characters are great actors and actress! I would definitely rewatch this <3

I think the screenwriters didn't want to write a typical romance drama but a drama about friendship, trust, and hope. The chemistry between the three principal characters is so intense that you can't do anything else but love them. Han Se Ju and Yoo jin O bromance is just amazing.They both love each other so much, and because of that I cried many times (especially at episodes 15-16). They make you laugh threw every episodes. The love-triangle between Han se ju Yoo jin o and Jeon Seol is just fantastic. The love story of Han se ju and Jeon seol is so emotional (especially in their past lives). The love that Yoo jin o has for Jeon seol is so intense,and so cute. He loves her so much even though he knows that he can't have her. He only wants to protect her and cherish her by all means. I highly recommend this drama. If you are searching for a drama that makes you smile, laugh,cry(all kinds of emotion:) )....you better watch it, because if you don't you really are missing something...(but i'm not forcing you to watch it..nooooo) -And don't look at the ratings...they are ridiculous...the drama is worth to win a award...

There's something melancholic about an uncompleted dream of one's past live, and its especially poignant here. I cannot comprehend how much sadness and regre the three main characters must have had to led them to meet again in the present time. Chicago Typewriter is a modern day fairytale no doubt. Anyhow, this drama is one of the best I've watch so far. I've been watching korean dramas since forever, its like part of my system now that I can really segregate the good ones and the so-so dramas. I literally cried my eyes out for the sadness I felt for Yoo-jin's character, my heart is with him even after I finished the drama. Actually, this is my second time that I liked the second lead character more than the lead actor. Its not that I dont like Se-joo, but the story made me love more the character and the story of Yoo-jin. You can say I really felt the agony, longing, sadness, love and struggle of Yoo-jin in all and every aspect. He was torn between his loyalty and his love for his comrades, its so painful to watch that I need to pause and cry for a while since its too difficult to continue with my eyes so blurry and my sobbing and all.lol. This drama don't deserve to have such a low rating, though I hipe people wont judge the drama for its "rating" and still try to give the show a shot. Nevertheless, I give my two thumbs up fot Chicago typewriter, it's creator/writer, the director and crew and the characters/actors of course. Special mention to Yoo-jin who made me love this drama even more and even made me skip work just to finish this. Hahahahah! Kudos! <3

The memory of the past always gives such a bittersweet taste. I don't care about ratings since i always like underrated dramas. When j tried to watch high ratings dramas like goblin, DOTS, i just cannot relate much and dropped the drama midway. Sorry to fans who love those dramas. But i really lose hope with high rated dramas coz i never like it. So i never trust rating system. I have been dropping too many high recommended dramas halfway because most of dramas started off well only to disappoint me in the end. I am glad to find this drama. This one is sure a gem that shines over time in each episodes, it just getting better and better until the last episode. I never have to skip anything. We also loved learning about Korea during the war and being introduced to the culture. Love this show!!! Kudos to the writer, director, actor, all productions staffs...along the beautifully addicting OSTs. Memory of the past is always so precious...when u add to it patriotism, brotherhood n beautiful slice of life...it really is almost perfection. 9/10 for this drama for me. I'd say slightly better than goblin. It's been a really great experience tvN. Till next drama... ^_^

The character development from the beginning to the ending was excellent. The beautiful friendship they shared; from their past life to their present life was heartwarming. This drama moved my heart and whole being. I loved it. I will watch this drama again.

The device of remembering bits and pieces of their previous lives as freedom fighters to recreate their story and the mystery of why the ghost is in the 30's typewriter is both clever and compelling. This is a must watch for serious Korean drama lovers!!!

How they put the war vibe with brownish tone on the scenes and how the actors play their role has made me burst in tears sometimes. I can feel their joy and sadness, how they love each other.

derpish May 11 2017 9:56 am oh i love this drama, definitely the type of movie that i would love to sacrifice my finals to watch this (which i did). Everything, i repeat, everything is so well thought that i dont think i want to watch the next episodes and die to watch them at the same time. It's so good that im afraid if the next episodes turn out to be lower than my expectation, i would be so so sad and disappointed. The plot is so nice, not to mention it focuses on a topic that i love: writers, people who write to make a living. Each character is well built with details and history, and although most of the times i hate those previous life kinda thing, this is actually nice and touching. Love how the characters show themselves through actions and words. And although there's some fantasy here and there, this drama still mostly focuses on the reality, and that just makes it so much more brilliant. Definitely A Must Watch!!

I was hooked from the get go. I like that there are so many questions, as if it's a puzzle that will only be completed with that one final piece. It's funny, sad and heartfelt, and the way all those emotions are conveyed makes this drama a cut above the rest.

I just started episode 3 and I'm in obsession mode now. It is really Great!! The story line has begun to fill in and the various characters are finding their pace and it is intriguing. The acting is superb and after Whisper - this is now my drama competing for the best of 2017. Definitely worth watching.

      I am not his fans, but I really admire Yoo Ah In's acting skills. He is really an excellent actor. I watched Sungkyunkwan scandal which people started like him through that drama, but I more into yoochun at that time. I started like him since I watched  secret love affair.

The writer is a genius, the director is amazing, and the actors are making everything perfect! Yoo Ah In's acting in this drama is really amazing and his aura is so overwhelming I love how he plays the different personality perfectly, the way Jeon Seol portrays being a fan of Han Se Joo is so relatable haha and dont forget about how Kyung Pyo act mysteriously but cute at the same time! Cant get enough of this drama and i'm sure this is my favorite drama at the moment!

I think Yoo Jin-O is the soul of the novel written by Han Se Joo, it may be that his soul is trapped in novel 'Chicago Typewriter' book written by Se Jo in the past, but the book is not resolved. That's why he wants Se Jo to finish it and make him come alive again or maybe it's in being a 'ghost' writer because there are things that have not been resolved in the past between Se Joo, Jin O and Seol and the novel that will tell everything. Ahh ... that's just a fantasy story in my brain ... hahha The author will probably give the plot unexpectedly, just patiently watch it and hope it eventually ends with a surprising story.

My theory, he saw the draft of 'Fate' that han se joo had originally written and was published in baek tae min's name. If you notice, the father came to meet han se joo after readig baek tae min's manuscript.. so my guess he came to ask han se joo to write another book for baek tae min. But then when he enters the work room, he sees that han se joo still had the original first draft of Fate, therefore he gets annoyed and tells han se joo that he has things he shouldn't be keeping with him. Because he is afterall scared that han se joo can use that draft as bait to blackmail them. Also another hint the father did not see yoo jin oh is because usually if you find someone hiding in another persons house, wouldn't you ask that suspicious person who he is or what is he doing there?

Anyway I'm so excited you are as curious as me with this drama! The best for me in 2017!

Everything, from picture to soundtrack to the story is just wonderful. I'm enjoying it very much. Try for an episode you'll know yourself whether it's your type or not.

andy Apr 17 2017 5:07 am @Alfrianti okay i rewatched all the four episodes to clarify it and some mystery of the drama and I've got more insights on the whole drama and it's quite exciting. To answer our question, manager ji sook admitted that he hired a ghost writer, but cancelled it when the draft was faxed in the morning. So he actually doesn't know anything about yoo jin oh...

SPOILER ALERT AHEAD!

Now i just wanna post my theories: 1. Yoo jin oh is invisible to everyone except han se joo.

2. Yoo jin oh is the typewriter ghost, if you've heard the songs he listens to, it was the same in episode 1 where that white guy hears when he sees the typewriter is possessed.

3. That mother and her friend can see Yoo jin oh because the mother is a shaman and they share genes.

4. The writer is playing with our minds by showing converstions with manager ji sook and that guy who wants to frame han se joo. But if you clearly see it, they never really respond to any of his conversations...

5. Yoo jin oh is not a bad guy, because he wanted to protect han se joo, therefore he possessed that dog so that Seol could protect him.

6. If you noticed, there are hints that seol has shot someone in her previous life, and it's pointing at a blured image of han se joo- My guess, han se joo and yoo jin oh are the same people!

7. And hence it explains this point where in the preview of episode 5, yoo jin oh says that han se joo needs to write for him to be alive... meaning he is han se joo's passion (i.e. writing).

All these are just my theories.... but I'm kinda sure some of it makes absolute sense...

pink_eden Apr 16 2017 2:32 pm I guarantee that it's really a good drama.At first I was hesitant to start watching it so I read some of the comments below and so far there were plenty of good feedbacks.So I started watching it the other day and now finish episode 4.So far the story is quiet interesting, and I couldn't help myself waiting for the next episodes.I hope this drama will be recognized because it's really good.This drama made me write a comment here which I don't normally do.So I highly recommend this drama.

And... SPOILER ALERT As an aspiring writer myself, episode 4 was so emotional for me, i cried! I love the cinematography of this drama. And for those of you who say this is a boring drama, I'm pretty sure you're here for just the romance, because i'll admit, the main girl is kinda irritating when she obssess with han se joo. But leaving that aside, i love the two main leads' past and present connection. Also, the suspense, and the jokes are brilliant! The storyline itself is unique and the cast are doing a fine job with this one.

One question though, if anyone can please clarify, didn't episode 3 show that manager ji sook admited that Chicago Typewriter manuscript was sent by a ghost writer? But then in episode 4 he denies it. Like han se joo is hallucinating.... it's confusing. Did i miss something?I

Coke and popcorn Apr 16 2017 1:07 am I was right... Yoo Jin O is indeed a ghost...a literally ghost writer.. At first when i watched episode 3, i thought he was the one hired by Ji Seok but he said even though he wanted to hire one, he didnt do it because Se Joo already submitted the first script (the evidence is when he waited for Se Joo to fax his script..if he t a ghostwriter, he wouldnt wait and just call him immediately or he would know what was happening instead of just waitimg in vain for Se Joo).

I realized that Jin O was indeed a ghost at the end of drama when i was thinking who he really is and went back to watch his scenes when he talked to Ji Seok and the reporter.. If you can notice, Ji Seok and the reporter never really talked with him, they were just talking to themselves, why would i say that? They never, even once looked at Jin O.. when we talk to someone we look at them or if we dont want to we can just face them but in the case of Jin O, it was as if he didnt exist when Jin Seok was talking to himself ( also, if he really thinks the one who writes is the ghostwriter he contacted then it was not Jin O but someone else...i just know..i cant really explain everything right now).. also the reporter was obviously just talking to himself, when he laughed after Jin O said something, it was not because he heard him but the reporter really thinks Se Joo has a ghostwriter writing for him...

popcorn and coke Apr 15 2017 1:24 am My theory for this drama is that Jin O resides on the typewriter or he is the typewriter itself... i havent watched the 3rd episode, so my assumption is based on Seol's hallucination when she pointed the gun on the person typewriting in the past and she was going back and forth on whether it was Se Joo or Jin O... or maybe Jin O possess Se Joo because Se Joo was sure he was the typewriting the whole time.. i dont know, what i really just know is that this drama is daebak!!!.. first encounter with a concept like this..truly a masterpiece...

This one is actually underrated and I blame the production team for not promoting it as widely as they can. This is the first time I'm actually interested in a 1930's Korean drama concept and it turned out so good? Yoo Ah In's acting is always top-notch, and again, it's what I've expected from Yoo Ah In's grand awards-worthy-acting skills. Let's also talk about Go Kyung Pyo, who's technically the 2nd behind Ji Soo (SWDBS) in Nation's 2nd Lead Actor. I can't wait for more from Go Kyung Pyo, believe me, I also have high hopes on him ever since Flower Boy Next Door. Ah, let's not also forget Lim Soo Jung, I can't wait for her to shine in the drama!

Trust me when I said it's going to be a good drama, this will never fail you. People usually drop this drama just because of the foreign concept, but I know it will do just good. Interesting concept, a good writer, what more could we ask? Watch it and be amused.

I feel so relieved because they didn't cast any random idol to be the leads. I don't hate idol, there are many of them have good acting. Went looking for other things she's done and found I'm Sorry, I Love You and was bowled over by So Jisub, her co-star. I was hooked and soon couldn't even stand to watch American actors or films or TV shows anymore, Korea's entertainment output is a million times better! Here I am 11 years and 313 Korean dramas completed and FINALLY Su is returning to the small screen. She always has great chemistry with anyone she works with so I predict this will be a big hit. So excited!
