AND ANOTHER THING why is femininity or Sophie being dressed up always a gag? Like she does look beautiful we know that but she’s nearly always uncomfortable or forced into it? It could just be an insecurity thing because she doesn’t think she’s pretty, maybe like lipstick on a pig in her mind (though let’s be real miss piggy serves cunt don’t even joke) but… she’s never given any other options? It feels like all those scenes where the plain girl is forced to dress up and it’s a glow up montage on an unwilling participant which I HATE. Instantly her closet was filled with frilly dresses which she wasn’t too keen on and I’m just mad they gave her no other options, she should’ve been given nice pants and shirts for when she had to dress up if that’s what she chose ya know? And everything she’s drawn in is like a dress with pants under, why not just give her normal pants and a normal shirt? Idk I just want her to have freedom </3
Ok I think that’s the last of my rants abt Sophie
I think it very much stems from the idea that women simultaneously have to be beautiful, but aren't allowed to know/like it, that I see so often in fiction (and in real life, but I'm more knowledgeable about its appearance in fiction). Sophie is repeatedly stripped of agency around her own beauty, because for a woman to have that agency isn't relatable, isn't feminist, isn't palatable enough.
(okay quick note this is a long post so buckle up)
