sin·gu·lar·i·ty (sĭng'gyə-lār'ĭ-tē)
n. pl. sin·gu·lar·i·ties
1. The quality or condition of being singular.
2. A trait marking one as distinct from others; a peculiarity.
3. Something uncommon or unusual.
4. Astrophysics: A point in space-time at which gravitational forces cause matter to have infinite density and infinitesimal volume, and space and time to become infinitely distorted.
Definition taken from the American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, by way of dictionary.com, because I cannot afford the OED.
I don't often post things here, but when I do, they're usually updates on my academic exploits (see tag: adventures in higher education). If not that, then they're probably random musings on whatever I happen to be pondering, links to things which have piqued my interest (ooh, shiny!), or occasionally whining/whingeing/venting my spleen- there's nothing like trying to rationally explain one's petty drama to a hypothetical audience of relative strangers to put it in perspective. Very occasionally, I feel compelled to get up on the proverbial soapbox and pontificate for a while- better here than on a streetcorner downtown.
