Making a new pinned post because it’s been a while

Welcome to the hellsite, call me Iole (they/them)

While this is a blog to post my disorganized thoughts and opinions and fandoms, let it be known I also have a writing blog @avoidingcertaindoom for my miscellaneous projects and comics as well as my art blog @iolesgallery for specifically my own art postings. I am trying to be more active on both, especially in regards to my Trufulla project.

When that isn’t it though I do tend to post a lot of original content with some Dungeons and Dragons or Vampire the Masquerade side tangents.

Fandoms I would consider myself active in (even if the activity isn’t always clear" are Vampire Academy/Bloodlines, Dungeon Meshi, Spy x Family, any of the Riordanverse up to TOA, and Horror as a whole.

And mainly because it’s BHM as I post this if you ever want to support a random black enby in the world I’ll leave my Ko-Fi link below.

Thanks for reading 💜✌🏾

funny thing about anxiety is sometimes it kind of breaks your sense of danger. like i am known for repeatedly putting myself in situations that make my friends go "bro you couldve died. werent you scared?" and the answer is 👍 yjeah. i did it scared. i do everything scared. i didnt know that was the actual important kind of scary because i usually have to ignore my fears to function in society. it will happen again. watch out.

Question. Whenever I look up hairstyle ideas, a lot of them seem more...idk the right word, but I guess just marketed towards adults? Are there any specific ones that tend to be more for children?

the fact that trans men/mascs who have won women's chess titles are stripped of them and banned from the women's division upon transitioning is a great example of what we mean when we say society needs to stop punishing us for coming out

transcyberism

the fact that FIDE has a women's division is specifically due to historical misogyny in chess as a cultural phenomenon. people assigned/presumed female are far less likely to be encouraged to pursue chess, and those presumed-female chess players face stereotype threat and exclusion from social networks that directly impair the ability to learn and develop a support system. so a women's division was created as a kind of level playing field for all of those folks to compete in without the pressure of having to be measured against cis men (i.e. the historically dominant class)

but not trans men, fuck them, be a real man or get out, I guess

transcyberism

most grandmaster-level players have been playing since they were like, 5-8 years old, to be clear. like it is the type of game where you seem to need early exposure to spur brain development in the areas of the visual cortex responsible for picking up patterns on the board. the difference in treatment based on birth assignment is extremely relevant to a young player's potential to reach a high level and win titles.

transcyberism

to be clear this post is not about trans women & I think trans women should also be allowed to play in the women's division since they face their own separate blend of transmisogyny and exclusion, and also since they're women, so don't @ me about it

White French people started making videos of forests, mountains, lakes… in rural areas with the caption “finally a place without wesh, baseball caps and wallah where you can go” (basically a place without Arabs and more generally without Muslims)

Arabs and Muslims in France started replying by saying “we’re coming over” and filming themselves in these areas that are supposed to be “safe heaven” away from us savages…

But it got better Algerians from the diaspora who are currently in Algeria got into it as well and they started filming similar places in Algeria with the caption “Finally a place without 🇫🇷 ⚜️” and then they add in the caption “we’ll wait for your “we’re coming over video” but you won’t get a visa”

That trend is fucking funny I was whizzing when I saw the comments

And the fact that they use the song “Sexy Nana” by Aya Nakamura who is hated by the racists during the “we’re coming over” part of the video makes it all so much more delicious.

If anyone wanna see one of the “we’re coming over” videos here is one on TikTok.

And one of the Algerian versions here

I just watched a video about students getting their papers falsely flagged for using AI, even when they didn’t, and the advice was things like, “Leave in incorrect grammar,” “If you’re quoting something, don’t copy and paste it, type it out manually because it leaves a metadata trail that you used the copy/paste function and that's a flag,” “Write in the cloud so there’s a version history,” and the one that really got me, “if you find you write in a manner that can sounds too robotic or professional and it gets flagged, go to the writing center so a writing tutor can help you sound more humanly flawed,” and like what the actual fuck.

Like I get that is practical advice, but people should not have to fucking do that. They should not have to train themselves around not sounding like AI, when AI only sounds like that BECAUSE it was trained on them.

I spent so much of my life learning how to write, I shouldn't have to unlearn that because some computer algorithm learned from me.

Encouraging kids to masturbate… dad of the year right there

letters-to-lgbt-kids answered:

Well, I don’t think I have actually written a post like that yet and I also think you may overestimate how many literal kids there are on tumblr - but since you’re handing out awards, here’s some gentle, non-judgemental info on masturbation like a good dad would offer if asked (since teens and young people deserve honest answers to make empowered choices):

Masturbation is a very common activity. It’s generally safe and healthy and it even comes with some benefits:

  • it’s only you, meaning there’s no risk of pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases!
  • it’s a safe way to explore your own likes and dislikes and to try out fantasies you may have, without the emotional entanglement of involving another person (yet or at all).
  • it can’t break your heart. Sex with another person requires a lot of trust and communication and you shouldn’t rush into that just to try it out.
  • it can be a fun way to get to know your own body, and knowing your own body is important to take care of your health! Knowing what’s going on down there is a good thing.
  • It’ll not ruin sex with a (future) partner. Many actually experience the opposite: getting to know your body and learning about your preferences solo actually makes sex with a partner more enjoyable and relaxed.
  • It may bring physical health benefits: it’s like a mini workout after all, plus orgasms are known to be healthy for you!
  • It can be a stress-relief and even helps some people sleep better.
  • It can actually help you live according to your values. For example, if you’re single and do not wish to have sex outside of longterm relationships, masturbation can help satisfy your needs without sacrificing your beliefs for a one night stand.
  • It allows you full flexibility without having to explain anything. You don’t like orgasms? You can just stop before you reach that point. You like to be perfectly quiet? Nobody expects you to moan if it’s only you.

It also doesn’t really have any side effects or negative consequences in general. Ideas such as „masturbation causes mental illness“ or even „masturbation leads to blindness“ are outdated medical myths. There’s no scientific evidence for that at all and it comes from times with limited knowledge on sexual health plus very strict beliefs around „sexual purity“. Modern medicine considers masturbation a healthy activity most people do.

Things you should keep in mind are just:

  • You should wash your hands before. While you can’t give yourself STDs (unless you touched someone else’s genitalia or fluids right before), you may have other germs or irritants on your hands that you don’t want down there. Also wash your hands after, that’s just basic hygiene and respect for the next person you shake hands with.
  • Masturbation doesn’t always require putting something inside of you. But if you do want to, please only use products specifically designed for that (or your fingers). Things that weren’t made for that purpose might hurt or injure you, or they could even get stuck or break off inside of you.
  • If you don’t enjoy masturbation, you don’t need to do it. While it’s a great activity for many, it’s still just an activity. Just like hiking or playing cards or singing: if you don’t enjoy it, you’re not missing out on anything by not doing it.

Lastly, I also want to address this common question:

Masturbation doesn’t always involve pornography. Many use their own imagination or even just enjoy the touch without any (inner) movie playing. You do not need to use porn to masturbate.

But if (and only if) porn is something you’re curious about and maybe something you’re worried about (is it unethical or weird etc), please know:

  • it’s a very common thing to be curious about and it’s also something many people regularly consume.
  • Know that, just as with online content of other genres, shocking or extreme content sometimes gets the most clicks. This doesn’t mean it’s representative of what most people enjoy or want in real life.
  • Sex in porn is staged. It’s meant to look good, not be realistic. Be aware that it’s not a good source for sexual education.
  • The problems with the porn industry are mainly problems with the industry (such as unsafe working conditions, unfair wages etc.). The ethical problem isn’t the sex itself.
  • You can avoid some of the industry problems by seeking out ethically produced or fairtrade porn. This usually means: all workers were fairly paid, there were precautions taken that all workers are of legal age and are willingly participating, workers may get more say in which scenes they want to do etc. Those websites also often focus more on female or queer pleasure than mainstream sites do. You may need to do some research there but it’s worth it
