I got my first homework back and received a "check plus," the highest grade! It seems those extra hours of help on the homework really did pay off!

techie question

argh! I finally got the download to work for the student version of Office 2010, but cannot remember how to add the option to "save as Word 2010.doc" to my list of saves. Does anyone know how to do this? It wants to save as a docx, which most people cannot open. I tried the Tools menu to make changes to "Save As," but it only shows the old "2003-7" and "docx" as options.
Jason is still asleep so I thought I would ask!

Books

I have a few more books to add to my list of those I have finished (or will finish) this summer:

I think I forgot to add that I read "Frankenstein."
I read the series of "The Green Mile" by Stephen King.
I am almost finished with "White Noise" by Delillo.

My son got his GED!
Also he was accepted at the Art Institute!

He will begin college in early October. We are working out his schedule, but it looks like he will attend full-time which is between 12-15 credits per quarter. He will be in the Game Design program.

This morning I decided to pull everything out from our cabinet under the kitchen sink and organize it. This was mostly because the last time our owner was here to replace our water filter, he shoved everything underneath in a mess.

Low and behold I found water and mold caused from a leak in the connection onto the filter.

I threw away a few things and wiped everything up, but couldn't get the filter to stop leaking. Finally, my nice husband tried to tighten the connection and realized it wouldn't stop unless we had some kind of plastic sealant tape. We opted to shut off the water to the bottom of the sink for now. The filter is only for the water from the refrigerator anyways and our owner does not want to fix the fridge.

I found an offer through my university for FREE upgrades for Microsoft office if you are a student! I am getting Office 7 as well as a preview for 2010. This makes me happy because Microsoft Word actually crashes during use and it has been maddening to finish writing projects.

I will also finally install the new battery I ordered months ago and use the screen cleaner I bought months ago. My laptop will love me after all of this!

My largest excursions this weekend will be to a music store to get some guitar sheets (unless I can find something through Amazon) and an Office Supply store to get Rowan some graphing paper and to find kits to make your own will. I want Jason and I to re-do ours and my mom wants me to get her a kit (without a CD, if I can find one.)
Has anyone used these kits before?

Mothers and daughters

I just got back from a nice breakfast with a my friend Theresa. It is always good to have time with girlfriends. We chatted it up and I defended my coffee cup from being refilled every second by the waitress. I have no idea why they don't understand that refilling it when it's half-empty means they are messing up your coffee-cream-sugar ratio! Anyways, two cups of caffeinated coffee and one cup of decaf later and I am ready to roll. At least I think that is how much I had. Hard to tell with the initial refilling.

Theresa and I talked about our daughters. Hers is going to be a Senior this year and mine will be a Sophomore. They attend the same high school and went to alternative middle school together. They have had many of the same problems getting along with others and adjusting to a different sort of educational program. She told me that her daughter and she used to be as close as Rowan and I until Sophomore year. Suddenly her daughter didn't want to spend time with her and doesn't talk to her much anymore. I hope this doesn't happen to us. Many moms say their daughters don't want to have much to do with them once they are in high school--in fact sometimes earlier on. For those of you who have teen girls, what have you experienced?

Rowan just told me she loves me and missed me this morning. She is such a sweetheart. We are getting ready to take her to work soon so I won't see her until late this afternoon.

I finally did something I have been meaning to do for awhile now. I got us renter's insurance. It is through our car insurance company and actually lowered our bill per month by a few dollars. It will cover theft, vandalism, fire and water damage related to pipes. No earthquake or flood, since these are not usual to this coverage in our area.

Also since I locked my keys in the car months ago and had to pay $110 for a towing company to help me, I got roadside assistance added which only costs an extra $4 a month. They will tow your car to the nearest repair shop no matter how far, will change a tire, charge a battery, or help you get in your car if you lock yourself out. So with both types of coverage, our bill is a few dollars less than it was per month. It equals out!
