at my sketchbook. straight up “drawing it”. and by “it”, haha, well. let’s justr say. Nothing

unpopular opinion but i like it when tv shows have women in them
what annoys the shit out of me about this post is how many times i've had to read "and i like it when they're actually well-written" because i've never had to read about a male character being badly written. ever. even when they're inconsistent or made up of one-liners or only there to be shipped with another male character. but yeah sure your critical skills suddenly flare up when it comes to women tumblr user. sure
I do think people should really expect more from the writing of pokemon games like if any other franchise tried to pull "the shopkeeper was actually the real villain the whole time and you only learn this in the epilogue no you're not allowed to know anything about their backstory or character motivations goodbye" I feel like. It would not have gone over very well idk.
The Pokémon Fandom also has a side of "I don't care for the story in Pokémon games, skiiiiiiiiiip" and another of "Gen 5 was the only series with a good and thought-provoking story (ignore the fact that the ethics of catching and owning Pokémon ends up kinda going nowhere because team plasma was evil anyways and it was all a fake out to steal Pokémon)". And I love Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet with every fiber of my being, but I feel like regardless of where we lie we could and should expect more from the writing team of such a big franchise. Also add a way to skip all cutscenes if you're going to heavily rely on them.
Hey, just in case nobody's ever told you, you can just live with your friends. I don't mean as a temporary roommate situation until you get a better job or a romantic partner; you can do it forever if you want to. Like, I know my view is a little scewed here because I'm aroace, but you can't convince me that most people's lives wouldn't be vastly improved by living with a tight-knit group of people that all love and care about and support each other. You don't have to live alone! You don't have to live alone with your partner either! If the only thing stopping you is societal convention, then fuck it!! Break free of your chains!!! Do whatever you want forever!!!!
One thing I often think about is how, like, how differently Deltarune will be experienced by people who pick it up after it's fully completed. Like, people going for their Blind Playthroughs after the Final Chapter has been released and the full game is out. Because the way we are experiencing the game right now, with the debates and analysis and memes and predictions going on during the wait for the next Chapter, that's kind of a unique one-time thing. Hopefully 'Deltarune' will have a long-lasting spot in the public consciousness and good 'shelf-life' and eventually, one day, we'd get to a point where a majority of Players would've only experienced the game as one complete package.
And it would change a lot about the game experience, obviously some jokes that are a nod to the Fandom stuff going on at the time or even to the wait-time between Chapters ('Just waiting for today felt like… years!!') aren't going to land as well. And… just in general, Future Gamers would probably not pick apart every single thing about a Chapter before going on to the next one, they'll go through the Chapter once, finding what they can, see how the story ends and only then they'll go back looking for extra Easter Eggs and Lore. If that's the sort of thing they're into.
And much has already been said about how Gerson and Pink both feel kinda extremely Lighthearted as Secret Bosses, when compared to how spooky and off-putting Jevil and Spamton and the whole Sword Route were. But I'm also thinking about how they're also kinda more 'on the beaten path'? Like the 'Prophecy' about the Justice Axe is basically laid right in front of the Player, Pink's shop where you can see her Key for sale is directly on the main path and finding at least a few Pink Coins is almost inevitable for even a mildly curious player. As someone who is generally terrible at finding the Secret Boss on my first blind playthrough, I can at least say that Pink is the closest I've ever gotten.
And that also seems to be the intent based on how the Chapter Soundtracks are structured, music related to Jevil and Spamton's Secret Bosses are placed after the main Final Boss Themes of their Chapters, the Sword Route related tracks are at the very very end of the Chapter 3 Soundtrack, but "Hammer of Justice" and "Cutie Mew Mew Magic" are more in the middle of the Soundtrack, before tracks relating to the Chapter's mainline endgame. So that seems to insinuate that the expectation is that more Players will experience these Fights on their first run, rather than finishing the Chapter and then coming back to look for the Secret Boss.
So that does make me wonder, when the whole game is completed, would it be a common experience for new Players to only find out about the concept of Secret Shadow Crystal Bosses when they encounter Gerson and/or Pink, go like "Oh, I guess all the previous Chapters had these fun Secret Bosses as well! Maybe I should go back and look for the ones I missed? I would like to get more Cool Equipment and also probably some nice character moments (:" and then get ambushed by the full-force of how fucked-up and disquieting the CH1-3 Secret Boss Stuff is? Obviously there's no 100% guarantee this is how everyone would experience it, but I wonder how common it will be?
i love wishing people luck for very mundane tasks that dont really require luck. going to the bathroom? good luck with that. making a sandwich? im crossing my fingers for you. need to change your shirt? i hope it works out exactly how you imagined.
[image description: a 8 page comic starring saiki. he's sitting at a booth, eating coffee jelly.
saiki: this is great. no annoying friends, no annoying family. some silence, and my coffee jelly. something is wrong here. Multiple things, in fact.
saiki: there’s nothing beyond the booth I'm sitting at. It's all blank. the line work could be better. and is the lettering handwritten? Good grief. I do break the fourth wall, but isn't this too much? I'm going to be out of character. And would it kill this artist to use a straight edge? its no problem for me since I’m an esper, but other people could trip on these uneven panels. The coffee jelly's fine, thankfully.
An example is shown of kaidou tripping. Kaidou: woah!
Saiki, not seeing kaidou walking towards him: it’s a good thing the artist is too lazy to draw anyone else. I can handle this, but with other people it could get dangerous.
kaidou, tripping on the panel: hey saiki- woah!
kaidou knocks saikis coffee jelly off the table.
kaidou: sorry saiki!
he sees saikis expression. kaidou, nervous: haha... I'll talk to you later!
kaidou runs off. Saiki thinks: How come I didn't notice Kaidou was right there? I don't have the germanium ring on, so i should've heard- could this artist be so careless that they didn't bother to write his thoughts in?
saiki, holding the coffee jelly in its glass: like i said: dangerous. i just barely caught the coffee jelly with my telekinesis off page.
saiki, looking at how the table looks the same as the start of the comic: but all the other stuff should still be on the floor. how hard can it be to keep props consistent in an eight page comic.
he looks to the side, and sees that theres another coffee jelly on the table, since the table is as it was in the beginning.
saiki, eating the new coffee jelly: good grief. i need to do something before this gets out of hand. seems i should investigate further. End ID]

This would have had me crucified on tumblr 10 years ago but maybe we are ready for this conversation now:
If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Not saying that you need to be a social butterfly- but there is a genuine problem with not being able to order your own meal at a restaurant. And it cannot be solved by always having someone else do it for you.
This is a PSA to about 3/4s of the Portland Youth populace
everyone who reblogs this and is like "I ordered my own tea this week" or "I only barfed once when I had to give a presentation'- you are doing amazing sweetie. Have patience with yourself, you are relearning a skill so difficult that people get 4 year degrees to do it professionally.

I wish these people were oppressed

stop tagging this saying shit like “me and jakey!!! 🥺”

my comic for the fairy anthology we made over in webcomics garden discord! Wretched work to make a comic that's only 8 pages..
