A high school valedictorian's plans to study medicine at a California state university have run headlong into the federal government's attempts to return him and his family to Armenia.
Arthur Mkoyan, 17, was 2 years old when his family came to the United States.
"I haven't been in Armenia since I was 2, so I don't really know anything about the place," said Arthur Mkoyan, 17. "All I've seen is just videos my mom has watched on the Internet."
Mkoyan's long-term plans were turned upside down one morning in April when two immigration officers arrived at the door of his family's house.
"They took both of my parents, and they released my mom because she had to take care of us, since me and my brother are minors," he recalled. "But instead they took my dad away to a detention center in Arizona."
Mkoyan, who has a grade-point average above 4.0 -- extra credit for Advanced Placement classes makes that possible -- is set to graduate next week from Bullard High School in Fresno, California. Watch students from Arthur's school talk about his case »
Ten days later, Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to deport him and his family to the Armenian capital city of Yerevan, the same city his family fled in fear 16 years ago.

The electronic version of "Treatment of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire" by James Bryce is now available at the ArmenianHouse.org Electronic library. This version keeps page numeration as in the original, so it can be used as a source for citations in academic works.

British jurist, historian, diplomat and politician. Also well-known as an alpinist, Bryce climbed Mt. Ararat in 1876 and later published a travelogue called Transcaucasia and Ararat (1877). From 1907 to 1913 he served as Her Majesty's ambassador to the United States.
The most notable of his works concerning the Armenian question is the collection of eye-witness accounts on the Armenian genocide, compiled with the help of the famous historian Arnold J. Toynbee and published by the British government in 1916 under the title The Treatment of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, 1915-16 (also known as “Blue Book”).
This work still angers the deniers of the Armenian genocide and all possible means are being employed to discredit its factual accuracy. For example, in the original version of the book the names of the correspondents were withheld for security considerations. That was used by some Turkish historians to declare the Blue Book as disinformation and wartime propaganda. However in 2000 historian Ara Sarafian published the critical and uncensored version of the book, thus once again confirming its importance as a primary source on the Armenian Genocide.

Police SUV running over an unarmed protester and driving away.
As far as I know, there has been no internal police investigation of this. And
when the General Prosecutor sees this clip I am sure they'll dismiss it as a "provocation"
(as they did with all previous damaging evidence).

Until now the Armenian police has categorically denied having opened fire
in the direction of the protesters. This video shows masked policemen chasing
protesters and then opening fire from AK-74 automatic rifles with tracer rounds
at them, killig at least one person, and then calmly walking away from the scene.

“The preliminary investigation will establish all circumstances of the deaths. I can state basing on the data of the preliminary investigation available as of today that no shot was fired in the direction of the demonstrators even during the mass unrest,” Truzyan said, adding that to quell the riots police used tear gas and tracer bullets fired solely into the air.
