THE PARTY...

Tickets are now on-sale for Songspiel: electronic cabaret, an operatic evening of electronic music, video and dance that will have you clutching your pearls! The brainchild of multi-disciplinary artist mïka, Songspiel is a double programme set to an electronic score, melding opera and classic music hall with visuals and theatrics reminiscent of the work of Andy Warhol, Klaus Nomi and Kurt Weill. Prudes beware!

Part one consists of technOpéra© Dido & Aeneas v. 1.2, a re-creation of an event originally created as part of the technOpéra© projects developed by the Opéra de Montréal in collaboration with the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) during the 2004-2005 season. Witness the fall of a queen during this clever pop-art adaptation of Henry Purcell’s timeless masterpiece. An electro flavoured satire that explores the cult of celebrity.

Part two consists of The Chronicles of Citizen X, a modern fairy tale and urban satire of western culture and its media. Originally inspired from the opera The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahoganny by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, The Chronicles of Citizen X will take you on a twisted adventure into the subconscious mind of a man on the edge.

Songspiel: electronic cabaret takes place on Tuesday, July 26 at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal (1 Ave. du Casino) at 20h. Tickets are $35 and are available online (www.diverscite.org), at Priape (1311 Ste-Catherine E., 514-521-8451) and through the Admission Network (514-790-1245 / 1 800 361-4595).

Who would be interested in participating in a trade party?

You know, a bunch of us get together and bring stuff we don't really use/need anymore (books, CDs, clothes, kitchen stuff, used and/or new, anything really), a little bit of cash and a few beers, and we go nuts. We can trade stuff from each other, buy stuff from each other, and get shitfaced.

For it to actually be worthwhile though, we need a minimum of interested people... So who would be willing/interested? And if you are, what would you have to offer?

This is what I could contribute:
-CDs
-Brand new school supplies (binders, notebooks, etc)
-Necklaces
-Books (mostly paperbacks)
-Shoes (used but in great shape)
-Handbags (used but in great shape)
-Makeup (brand new, never used)

Explosive, colourful and wild, Mascara is an epic outdoor drag show featuring the crème de la crème of Montreal’s drag queens and gender benders. These artistic visionaries work for months on their costumes and choreography in order to put on the fiercest and most hilarious drag show the city has ever seen. Thousands of spectators crowd the stage on Berri Street for this non-stop, 3-hour extravaganza. Directed and hosted by the one and only Mado Lamotte.

Go gay all the way with a big disco party in the park. Featuring a unique décor and stage concept, a number of go-go rockin` shows happen after the parade. Featuring performances by blasts-from-the-past The Boogie Wonder Band, Patsy Gallant and Mado Lamotte, Le Grand Bal will also feature gorgeous go-go dancers, a performance by drag queen V.nus and the popular sounds of DJs Bobzilla, Mario Bross and Mario Leonard. Dancers Jean-Marc St-Yves and Patrick Guay offer several unforgettable, choreographed dance numbers.

And last but definitely not the least, a full show by naughty girl Samantha Fox. The international pop star will give us a full taste of her latest creations (new CD to be officially released this September) as well as treat the crowd with her sumptuous hits.

Hello all!

Don't miss this week-end's grand opening of the all new Cabaret in the
heart of down town Montreal.

The inside has been completely renovated, chic in it's new red and gold
decor, velvet curtains, enormous crystal chandaliers, and a large stage
for perfermances, it really gives you the feel of the type of old-time
cabaret you see in the movies. And many other improvements are still to
be completed in the coming weeks.
