amyrayh's Navy BFF C and her friend here. Saturday we headed over to Ballard for a seafood festival, where we stuffed ourselves on good seafood, followed by a trip to the Chittenden Locks, where we saw lots of salmon on the water and like 4 different Great Blue Herons, including one that flew about 30' from me. *squees* We also hit Uwajimaya and got some Willapa Bay oysters, prawns, and 4 live Dungeness crabs for a seafood boil. We STUFFED ourselves, man! Sunday was pretty low key. Our biggest deal was taking C and her friend down to Illahee during a rather impressive low tide. We finally walked all the way out to the point and on the way back, we found half a dozen jellyfish and some octopus egg sacks that had been washed up on shore. Unfortunately, we think the octopi in the eggs were all dead. amyrayh wrapped them in some seaweed and took them back down to the water, but shatterpath managed to bring one of the egg sacks home [after making sure that NOTHING was moving inside of it]. She tooks some pictures of them. We'll have to get them posted up tomorrow... And there were two Great Blue Herons hunting there, too, and I think we heard the eagles, too. - Made another post on the divination/spirituality filter about some divinations/readings I've had over the last month and a half. idinamenzel, there was a post with a link to an interview for a Dallas concert that Menzel did. One comment posted the next day with the set list for said concert. It sounds like it was a good concert. I'd love to have heard "For Good" a capella, that's for sure! But what really caught my eye [and has had me pondering this all this time] was the second song in the set :: a mash-up of Cole Porter's "Love for Sale" and the Police's "Roxanne". Srsly? I can hear the two songs in my head, I can even see where there might be a connection to do said mash-up, but I just can't marry the two songs together... - If you get the chance, find yourself a way to watch The Tillamook Treasure, aka The Legend of Tillamook's Gold. It's vaguely cheesy, but it's a variation on the Mount Neahkahnie buried treasure stories [just like The Goonies is], which is why I wanted to watch it. And it has Max Gail and Floyd "Red Crow" Westerman in it. And it was filmed, in part, in both Manzanita and Tillamook, Oregon. I've been to both places and could easily play some "Name that location" games in this one. Again, the story's kind of cheesy, but I didn't really mind. I really enjoyed it and need to get myself a "permanent" copy at some point...
He-eymiashael, guess who composed and performed original music in the movie? Our Spirit favorite, Peter Buffet! No wonder the music sounded vaguely familiar... And on his website, you can listen to the entirety of the album for Spirit: the Seventh Fire, which seems to be a slicker, longer expansion of our beloved Spirit. I wish PBS would replay both Spirit and the behind the scenes special again. And of course, this now makes me miss Lou... - Via mary_mcdonnell, I found out about Battlestar Galactica: The Exhibition @ Science Fiction Museum at Seattle's Experience Music Project starting in October. Guess who the fuck is gonna be visiting that? And it's gonna have stuff from both the original series and the re-imagined series. *squees* I really wanna go the opening weekend, when there are going to be actors present [no idea who yet], but that's going to be a mad house, and Spotteh doesn't do well in crowds like that... According to EMP's press release info, the three ships displayed will be :: Viper Mark 2, Viper Mark 7, Cylon Raider. *pouts* That means no
LauraBlackbird. I was really hoping to see that one... - Most likely everyone with an LJ already knows about this, but per lj_releases, they FINALLY listened and removed that damned ONTD spotlight widget from the home page. HATED that shit...
- Okay, for those of you who haven't heard, there's a pretty important bit of news that came out yesterday about CSI: NY. I found out about it from trialia's post. If you want to know, highlight the next white chunk of space for the info... Melina Kanakaredes is leaving CSI: NY and being replaced by Sela Ward. Gary Sinise confirmed Kanakaredes' exit on Twitter. The rumor going around is that Kanakaredes' contract was up and the offer CBS gave her included a pay cut, which she refused. To say the least, I won't be watching the show past the S7 opener. Plus? The fact that it's been moved to Fridays at 9pm is pretty much a death knell, tho' it'll probably last longer than CSI: Miami, which has been moved to Sundays at 10pm. Which means, by the end of this next season, I'll be down 2 more shows from my recording schedule. Hunh...
And speaking of CSI: NY... Last night, I had the TV on for background noise, and Logo was playing Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Welcome to the Hellmouth". Why did I not know that Carmine Giovinazzo was in this? Or, as I said toshatterpath, Darla killed Thumpy G before the opening credits rolled! *snickers* I recognized his voice milliseconds before his face.
