Summary: Angeal thinks about his new student.
A/N: I totally meant this to be longer. But Alice Cooper concert and lots of overtime at work killed both time and energy. Still, I like the feel of this, and I hope you enjoy it as well, oh prompter and others who read it.
Honor
He was a scrappy little puppy, I’ll give him that.
When they convinced me to give mentoring a chance, I never expected to find someone like Zack. Most of them, they aren’t going to make it past 2nd Class. They don’t have the will, the desire to really make it to 1st. Very few do.
Zack does.
He’s got the same look that I see all the time on Genesis and Sephiroth. That stubborn expression that says he’ll do it or die trying. Tenacity is too weak a word for it, and once he has his teeth into something, I don’t think I’ll be able to pry him off until he gets it right.
Though he does seem to be easily distracted sometimes.
He reminds me of my father, in a way. Not the biological one, either. But the man my mother married. The one who raised me, bought me my Buster. The one who showed me how to steal an apple and give the little old ladies a bright smile for a piece of hot pie. The man who showed me what it was to do an honest days work and come home filthy, tired, but happy because he had helped someone who needed. The man who taught me about honor.
Zack makes me want to teach, with all his enthusiasm and energy.
Maybe, if I’m lucky, he’ll understand not only that honor is important, but he’d understand -why- it was important.
Not many people realized the difference.
Genesis and Sephiroth are already starting to tease me about my little puppy, about how I’m such a proud papa.
Wait until Zack is trained up right. They’ll understand then.
If I can just teach him to focus.
