What content is available on ARC?

Aerospace Research Central (ARC) provides access to AIAA Journals, eBooks, Conference Papers and Standards. It also provides access to the journals published by the American Interplanetary Society, later known as the American Rocket Society (ARS), and the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences later known as the Institute of the Aerospace Sciences (IAS). ARS and IAS merged in 1963 to form AIAA.

I can't access my content. What should I do?

Individual

Individuals need to log into the AIAA sites (www.aiaa.org OR http://arc.aiaa.org/) in order to receive access to purchased content. If you have forgotten your username, password and/or need to verify if you have access to specific content, please contact AIAA’s Customer Service Team at 800.639.2422; 703.264.7500; [email protected].

Institutions

Institutions and their customers receive access to purchased AIAA content via IP address. If you are trying to access content purchased by an institution, please ensure you are within the institution’s IP address range. Institutions also do not always purchase all content available from AIAA. Please contact your institution’s librarian to request additional content. For all other inquiries, please contact [email protected].

What if my institution uses EZproxy?

If your organization uses EZproxy to authenticate users outside of the organizations’ IP range, AIAA suggests the organization change their EZproxy to a trusted proxy. There are a number of benefits of using the trusted proxy to authenticate users:

  • Users can access a publisher’s content without having to go through additional registration or login pages.
  • Although initial installation of a trusted proxy script is required by the subscribing institution, there is virtually  no ongoing technical maintenance needed.
  • Platforms can be configured to show the name of the subscribing institution as a web page banner when users are authenticated by the trusted proxy.
  • After an initial authentication exchange through the trusted proxy on the subscribing institution’s website, the  user accesses content directly from the Literatum website. This results in better performance and offloads  network traffic at the subscribing institution website.

AIAA can provide the institution with instructions and sample scripts for trusted proxies. However, if this is not possible, AIAA does provide basic support for EZproxy. For more information, please visit our Librarians Resource Page or contact [email protected].

As institutional customers, what admin capabilities are available?

Institutions will be able to designate administrators to view current subscriptions, enable content suppression, access MARC 21 records, update IP address information, download COUNTER reports, set up Open URL reference linking with branded buttons, and configure a site-wide co-branding message that will be visible to the institution's constituents.

Please send an email to ARC support with your institution’s name, AIAA customer number, first name, last name, email address to be used as the administrator login username and title of the administrator.  Please create an AIAA account using the same email as the administrator email here.

What content comes with my subscription and how long do I have access to that content?

Individuals

Member subscribers have access to an online journal as long as they maintain a current subscription to that journal. In addition, members receive access to that journal’s archive as long as their subscription is current. When the current subscription ends, so does access to its archive but members will always have access to the 12 months they purchased (e.g. purchased Journal of Aircraft May through April).

Institutions

Institutions will have perpetual access to purchased, current year content (e.g. Journal of Aircraft published in 2015). All institutional subscriptions are based on the calendar year. Access to any journal or meeting paper archive is available to institutional customers two ways: annual subscription (access begins on 1 January and ends on 31 December) or perpetual access through a one-time purchase. Please contact your local sales representative for pricing.

How long does the journal article review process take?

It may take anywhere from a few months to a year or more. Length of time is dependent on factors like author revisions, number of articles to edit and/or review, etc. Articles are published online first to ensure the content is available as soon as possible. These “Articles in Advance” are considered published versions of the articles. Once they are assigned to a journal issue, they are moved from Articles in Advance and placed in their journal issue. For more information, please visit our Author Resource Page.

Back to the FAQs list

Is there a charge to publish papers in the journals?

Publication charges are voluntary, and nonpayment has no influence on the review process or the time from acceptance to publication. Publication charge payments help defray production costs and keep journal subscription prices low. Publication charges can be downloaded here.
