Awesome Gay Soccer Ladies Appreciation Post

It is not often that I overcome my own special deadly combination of lazy and shy in order to actually POST something on lj, but since it's late and I've had a fair amount of wine and am all riled up by the USWNT win, I just wanted to say:

HOW ADORABLE ARE ABBY WAMBACH AND SARAH HUFFMAN WITH THEIR "CODES" ON TWITTER????

and by "everyone" she means . . .

And in related news, boy does Abby BRING it when her woman is there to support herCollapse )

Side note: In case it wasn't obvious, I currently have a giant crush on all of women's soccer right now. Especially Abby. and Pinoe. And Sinclair - who I missed tonight.

the curse strikes again . . .

This is just getting absurd. Apparently I need to stop finding new shows that I like, because inevitably, once I have mostly caught up with the entire series to date, some news will break that will basically destroy everything I love about the show. To anyone in the fandoms I have just become addicted to: I am so so sorry. I really didn't mean to doom your show just by starting to watch and love it.

Who are my latest victims you might ask? Let's see: I've watched four and a half seasons of criminal minds (which has made me paranoid as shit, by the way) in the last four or five weeks, and about two weeks ago it was announced that they were getting rid of/severely downsizing the role of my two favorite characters from the show. Coincidentally, these two characters were also the most femslashable characters in the series and two of only three regular female cast members. grrrr.

My second victim appears to be Party Down, which I only started watching last week, but seriously seriously fell in love with. I watched nine episodes in a single night. That show is hilarious and I was starting to think I might have found something to fill the gaping hole in my life left by the cancellation of Better Off Ted. But guess what? News just broke tonight that it has now been cancelled after only two short seasons. WTF. I really know how to pick 'em . . .

balls.

To all my fellow Seeker femslash fans . . .

Do you love Cara with a fiery passion like Cara a normal, healthy amount? Of course you do. That's why we're friends. That's also why I'm going to tell you that you should be watching the Good Wife. Like now. Go find it online and watch the whole first season. Because (aside from the fact that it is a compelling, smart show and Julianna Margulies is awesome) somehow, miraculously, the Good Wife has a character that is essentially a real world Cara, and her dynamic with the other lead female character is remarkably similar to the relationship between Cara and Kahlan.

(warning: very minor spoilers for the first season of the Good Wife ahead)

Allow me to introduce you to Kalinda, and a few of the ways she is similar to Cara:

1) Cara and Kalinda both share an affinity for tight leather outfits and are exceptionally good at leaning against things.

2) Both women are snarky as hell and operate in a pretty serious moral grey area - they're badasses who know how to get. shit. done. and there is very little they won't do in order to achieve their objectives. Kalinda is a private investigator who works for the law firm that Alicia Florrick, the show's main character, begins working for at the start of the first season. Basically she runs around intimidating people, sneaking into crime scenes, sweet-talking the cops and FBI Agents to get information on cases relevant to their clients, and rolling her eyes at Alicia while also not-so-secretly admiring her for being another badass.

3) Both women are extremely emotionally closed off and private - much to the chagrin of their seemingly more "pure," moral, and emotionally open counterparts (i.e. Alicia and Kahlan - the "Good Wife" and the Mother Confessor).

4) Both women, almost despite themselves, are fiercely loyal to and protective of the other lead female character. Kalinda, despite her vocal protests that Alicia is too nice and it makes her weak, will do basically anything Alicia asks and does everything she can to make sure Alicia keeps her job. Sound familiar?

5) Canon bisexuaity + subtext GALORE! Even though Kalinda has refused to answer the direct question of whether or not she's gay, we've seen her blatantly flirt with both men and women on the show, and the season finale insinuated that she had a kiss and a relationship with a female FBI agent. And even though Alicia, like Kahlan, is in a very serious heterosexual relationship which is a major focus of the show, there is boatloads of subtext between her and Kalinda. At the very least they have a close friendship and a one-sided/unrequited attraction on Kalinda's part.

So have I convinced anyone? Or are you guys already watching?

LOTS Vid Recs

I really really should be sleeping right now. But I'm not. Instead I am going on a youtube rampage. I had to stop and rec these two videos though because
a) they are awesome, and
b) I can NOT get enough of watching Cara making out with girls.

This . . . was not the news I needed after a day where I worked a 10 hour shift at the book store and then had to watch the Caps lose DESPITE the fact that they were playing their fucking hearts out.

dammit. i need a damn drink.

I feel like I have a fucking two season hex on me or something: Dollhouse? Life? Better of Ted? and now Seeker? wtf world?!
Apparently I should just not start watching ANYTHING until it's on its third season, or I will doom it to failure. (/self involved rant attack).
