'ello 'ello

Wow, people actually use this stil... not too often, but nonetheless...

Anyways... Appleby news:
Exams are over... for 6 months
Holidays until the 9th! =D
Report cards just came out...
Appleby Idol coming up soon
First ever Appleby Oscars...
Is our next dance Semi?
Yeah, that's all I can think of.

I hope Appleby Osacrs are cool... well of course they're gonna be, because Arts Council is running it. And when is Semi anyways? Wasn't it in February last year? Oh, and Temagami Winter trip soon!!! That should be fun... <.< ... >.>

Hey, here's an update for you Laura... anyway, I'm kind of thinking of Appleby as a home away from home in a way. I don't know if anyone feels the same way but somewhere between all those fun classes, sitting by the lake, chatting in the Dining Hall or in Bailie (in my case), sports, trips, sitting by the creek in that secret place in the forest (you know you all have one) Appleby's become a little snug home for me. It's the place where most of my friends are and i=it's the place where some of my best momories are tucked away.

Any thoughts?

This is in response to Ms. Pacholic's email about hair today....
After looking at the definitions, I've come to the conclusion that we (boys) really can have long hair while not breaking a single school rule.

d) A reasonably conservative, traditional haircut is required.  Hair should be neat [not clear], clean and, for boys, neither hanging over the eyebrows [most hair tends to hang over the eyebrows as it is not long enough to hang below them. However, it is obvious that boys are, in fact, required to grow their hair so that the tips sit below the eyebrows] nor reaching the top jacket collar [descrimination based on sex. A violation of Section 15(1) of the Charter of Rights]

One could assume that by "nor reaching the top jacket collar" tha teachers woudl be more than accepting of the tucking of one's hair below the jacket collar.

Section 2b of the Charter of Rights States:

[Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:...]b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;

Section A of the Appearance section of the Blue Book States:

"Students must....take an interest in their own appearance." - Page 59 of the 2004-05 Blue Book

I must agree that it isbeneficial for students to be creative with their appearance (such as hair) so as to take an interest in their appearance.

A point in School Dress reads: "Student dress...consists of: - An Appleby Tie.

This is incorrect as any tie from any Round Square School is acceptable. It is unfortunate that the authors of such a binding document should forget such a fundamental part of the uniform.

Section B of the Appearance section of the Blue Book States:

"...Boys may wear earrings in the evenings only, in and around their House. Visible body piercings and visible tattoos are not permitted.

Other than vioating one's right to expression as defined by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, it is a blantant contradiction that visible body piercings should be disallowed while ear piercings are. One would assume that the bottom of one's ear would not usually be obscured form view if one wishes to wear an earring.

Opinions anyone?

Hey people,

I was wondering what people thought of this Teme Day thing? Having missed the last one, I have no idea what it's about since the grade 7 one wasn't really that good. Personally, I think I know enough about democracy and don't need to spend my day going over it again. Maybe it'll be interesting, though... Who knows?

BRIAN

Any opinions?

Posting to appleby_kids

For those of you who don't exactly know how to post in this community, listen up darlings:

Your easy guide for posting in a community on LJ.com (why, it's almost like magic!)

1. Mkay, i'm assuming that if you're wondering about this, you already have an lj. If not, sign up for one and log in. Self explanatory, kids.
2. You have to join the community. Go to http://www.livejournal.com/commmun… (say, isn't that where we are right now?) and then click on 'User Info'. Once in the user info click on the link that says 'join this community'
3. Now you're officially in appleby_kids. Feel special. In order to post, go to the place where you'd usually go about writing an entry for your regular journal and type up your blurb. Instead of clicking 'submit', change the journal you are posting in to 'appleby_kids' (there is a textbox at the bottom of the page that will allow you to do this)
4. You've posted an entry! Ta-da

Sorry for sounding snarky, but it's been a long day filled with subway stations, high heeled boots and overly emo grandmas.

♥ Nat

eljay is my hero

Hey kids, i do believe it's the first entry. Feel free to post anything you want and tell other people about this community- we want members! Hopefully, because this lj doesn't allow for anonymous posts we won't have any crises the size of... oh say, a certain forum. Keep the LJ drama to a minimum, please. Cause it's march break, there probably won't be any posts for a week or so but i just wanted to get this started
