Surprised by joy, impatient as the wind...

During a summer school in Ireland, I had a teacher (English litterature), named Pacelli O'Rourke. He was a "real" teacher. Dedicated to his work, loving his subject. To this day, more than 20 years later, I still remember some of his words, and the texts we studied. He encouraged me to take the Trinity College Exam, and I passed, but that's another story.

One of the things he used to say was "you are writing to be read".

I'm currently reading a book, The Journal of Helen Berr which brought those words back to my mind. At first, this young woman didn't write to be read. Then she wrote just because she felt she had to, because of the horror of the Nazi's regime.
Her journal is really poetic, and I can't help thinking what a loss it has been that she died in a camp (just a few days before it's liberation). She wasn't a profesionnal writer, but she would have been a such a talented one, had she lived. It certainly doesn't mean that some poeple are less worthy to live than others, and their death isn't such a great loss, but it's quite tragic when you realise that indeed, this young woman would have made such a bigger difference in the world than what she did, while she was only in her twenties.

So for today, I'll only leave you, dear readers (because in fact I am writing to be read) with her words: What a shame that one half of humanity is manufacturing evil and a tiny minority is trying to put it right!

More food art/stuff because I can be quite obsessed...

Here is something quite different from the previous food art. Not your momma's cookies (and thank God for that !!!!)
Eat your heart out ! almost literally !

And here is something from Canada. Your partner has a low sex drive in the morning, while you're quite the opposite? Why not trying these gender based breakfast cereal? There are more than 1000 shops in Canada selling those products, and the demand has been constantly increasing for the last 6 months...

Food art from Norway...

Here is a blog that was advertised in one of the magazines I'm fond of.. This 30 something woman has fun making the plates look, if not attractive (seriously, I'd be sorry to destroy some of those, even if they are edible), at least interesting !

You can have a look at her blog here.

I'm removing some friends...

This entry is public, so if you can read it, well, it has to be because you came by my LJ :)
I'm removing some people from my Flist... As usual, you know, the "nothing personal, we just don't click" yadda yadda....
To be honest, if I click on your LJ name and it doesn't inspire anything, or I have to search who you are, then I'm probably not that interested in your life, and neither are you to mine, so farewell..
If for any reason you want to remain one of my friends though, feel free to write me a message !!!

Eurovision context...

I know, some of my friends have already posted a video of the winner... but hey, it doesn't mean i can't do it myself !! :)
So this year Sweden won the Eurovision... and France arrived 22d rank on 26 countries participating. We suck. It's like a tradition in France to lose the Eurovision. We do it with an annoying regularity...

But enough rambling.. Here is the song that granted Sweden the first place, and the -questionable- privilege to organize the context next year...

This is the song that gave France it's 22d rank..

This is the song that gave Russia it's 2nd rank !!! 75 years (medium age of the women)

For the record, the last year France won Eurovision was in 1977, with this song that everyone still remembers..

There is a sense of exhilaration that comes from facing head-on the
hard truths and saying, "We will never give up. We will never
capitulate. It might take a long time, but we will find a way to
prevail."

-- Jim Collins, from his book, Good to Great

If successful people have one common trait, it's an utter lack of
cynicism. The world owes them nothing. They go out and find what they
need without asking for permission; they're driven, talented, and
work through negatives by focusing on the positives.

Enthusiasm is the best protection in any situation. Wholeheartedness
is contagious. Give yourself, if you wish to get others.
