Representation Matters

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

I saw someone on tiktok saying they were sick of people pushing the gay/trans/queer agenda on characters from popular media.

Please allow me to interlock our fingers as I explain to you, random internet stranger, that the show in question was canonically queer.

I also just want to add that all the art I do is on the note pad on my phone. I know it's not good.

- Could I spend the extra money and buy an art system and a drawing tablet and everything else - Probably.

- Am I gonna do that - Probably not. 🫠

**EPISODE 9 SPOILERS**

Part 4 of TADC that hinted at or represented Jax as being trans that you might have missed.

Still just a continuation of where I left off in Part 3.

29. The Big Fight #1? (Episode 9)

The fight scene with Ribbit/Kaufmo that paralleled the fight scene with Pomni.

Gate Keep

To Pomni: "We were never friends... Not looking forward to thinking about all that tomorrow."

To Ribbit: "If you ever tell anyone about this, I'll never speak to you again... *Sarcastically* Because you know me SO well! Because we're such SUPER close best friends!"

Gaslight

To Pomni: "You must be misremembering."

To Ribbit: "I don't know why you're so fixated on that night. Nothing happened!"

To Kaufmo : "Hey. If Ribbit ever says anything about me, just know it's not true."

Girlboss (Projection)

To Pomni: "I'd move on and probably forget about you."

To Ribbit: "You're the one using me! You're the one manipulating me and-"

What I believe Jax was going to say before she was cut off in the snowy mountain scene was " - turning the others against me."

Something she was actively doing to Ribbit and then likely did to Kaufmo as well.

To Kaufmo: "Have fun being crazy!"

In hindsight, she did this to everyone, but she was more subtle after Kaufmo and Ribbit abstracted.

30. This last one doesn't have anything to do with her being Trans.

But it's an important topic nonetheless.

I know Gooseworx has specifically said you are free to give Jax ANY pronouns you choose and I support that decision.

Please, take a moment to reflect on Trans erasure and do your very best to give it some critical thought.

Whether you love or hate Jax - this is an important, and often overlooked, issue that happens to the majority of LGBTQIA+ characters.

Her fears about everyone moving on and forgetting her were thwarted. 💜

*We are NOT discussing whether Jax was 'GOOD' representation or not. My opinion will always be that she is a complex and distinguishable character that spoke to the trans audience when others weren't listening. And that will always be enough for me.

Please be respectful in the comments. Let me know if I missed anything or if you interpreted one of these moments a different way. Thank you all so much for coming along with me.

I hope you have a wonderful evening and you will always be enough!

**EPISODE 9 SPOILERS**

Part 3 of TADC that hinted at or represented Jax as being trans that you might have missed.

Again, I'm just starting back up from where I left off.

14. Prying (Episode 8)

If you look closely, you can see that the shadows are Ribbit, Kaufmo, and Pomni. The only people in the Circus Jax felt any semblance of closeness towards.

Her irrational fear is that they will laugh at her while they pry into her life. And we're given a visible representation of that as they peel the protective layer from her and she is unable to put it back on in front of them.

15. Mixed feelings/Wrong Signal

(Episode 9)

I was genuinely confused by this scene.

My best theory is that :

- Jax wanted Gangle's friendship and MAYBE had a crush on her.

- Jax softly bullies her to show affection. She does not reciprocate.

- Jax notices that Gangle is developing a relationship with Zooble. It somehow feels like a betrayal because Zooble is also Trans non-binary.

- Jealousy gets mixed in with the other confusing emotions. Jax begins to really bully her because she's angry and doesn't understand why.

- Jax's perception of Gangle is broken when she stands up to her. *She says 'NO' to being Jax's partner for teams. *She does not let Jax push her around in Spudsy's and takes charge. *She bullies Jax back with the maid outfit.

- Jax believes that Gangle is into "Gender Freaky" stuff (whatever that entails for her) and with Zooble gone, she'll turn to Jax as the next best option.

Which is NOT true in the slightest, but it's not my mind. Also, I'm probably completely off base.

(I deeply apologize if I misrepresented this moment. I know it contributes somehow, but I am at a disadvantage, as I am a trans man that has ONLY ever been in relationships with transmasc people/cisgender men.)

16. Jax - Ception (Episode 9)

Maid outfit Jax states she is wearing it 'ironically' to show how truly 'little' she cares. She also calls middle Jax an f-slur for saying she wouldn't be caught dead in it. Overcompensating - Especially after we all saw how she reacted to the maid outfit in real life.

They ALL scream at the chain locked door for making any noise after Pomni asks where the real Jax is.

And then we get this visual in the montage.

17. The Confession (Episode 9)

Jax explains to Ribbit what her biggest regret is. She mentions that her mother constantly compared her to her father after the divorce. And then she admits that she told her mother something extremely personal to get her mother to stop.

That deeply personal thing being Jax is Trans, so she feels nothing like her father.

She was laughed at, degraded, and insulted by the parent she trusted the most.

18. "Isn't she lovely? Less than one minute old." (Episode 9)

Ribbit immediately understood what Jax was implying. She clipped her bow tie to Jax's ear and told Jax her secret was safe with her.

The montage song is dedicated to this moment, where she was seen, accepted, and safe as herself for the first time.

And then the rose colored glasses were shattered when they were interrupted by Kaufmo - all under a minute.

Part 2 of TADC that hinted at or represented Jax as being trans that you might have missed.

I'm just starting back up from where I left off.

8. She immediately regrets pushing Pomni away, has a panic attack, and tells herself she looks stupid.

(Episode 6)

9. She's not swimming. (Episode 7)

A lot of trans people have anxiety around swimming and avoid it entirely. Most of it stims from body dysphoria - specifically the swimwear and public changing rooms.

10. Zooble confronts her. (Episode 7)

"Aren't you supposed to be miserable about the ability to choose your own body, or something?"

Zooble says that they're starting to grow accustomed to not having to commit to one thing all the time. Making it clear that they realize Jax is on the fence about her gender identity. And that if they do have problems, they talk about them with the people they trust.

And then Jax comes in with -

"Good thing I don't have any problems then."

Making it clear that she does not trust anyone enough to talk about how she's feeling and shutting down the conversation immediately.

11. Her room and hiding it from the group. (Episode 7)

Her room is not just decorated for a girl, but also sporting the trans colors:

Light blue, pink, and White.

And when she answers her door, she keeps it cracked with the light off so no one can see.

12. "Oh, what a shock!" (Episode 8)

A reference to conversion therapy.

Conversion therapy is a discredited, ineffective, unscientific, and abusive practice, aimed at altering an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity.

13. While everyone is scared of Caine's tantrum, focusing on Caine and their surroundings - Jax is focused on what she's been forced to wear instead.

(Also saw this from another post and that was a hard find! I have to watch subtitles, because I can't process words unless I'm looking at someone's lips. So thank you to whoever caught this!)
