Whether the Weather

I have been shocked by the temperatures hitting Europe. Of course we get those temperatures here in Australia. We expect to get those temperatures here in Australia. Not only are our houses built for it but after generations, we’ve adapted to it.

But we’re the absolute worst when it comes to the cold. For the last few days every one here has complained about the cold and how “freezing” it is. And while I admit Saturday in particular was cold with a minimum of 7.9C (46F) and a maximum of 8.5C (47F), it was far from freezing 0C (32F). And yesterday started out “freezing” at -0.2C (31.64F) but warmed up nicely to around 15C (59F).

Most of us also have reverse cycle air conditioning blowing cool in summer and warm in winter.

Stay cool my friends and drink lots. Get into the habit of carrying a bottle of water everywhere, even around home.

Australia Day is on Monday and despite it not being the most popular day, it is a public holiday and if we let it, it is a great way to celebrate all of our diversity regardless of where we came from or how we got here.

Below the cut are a few icons in recognition of the day. Don't forget to credit, and comments and/or likes are appreciated.

The Twelfth Day of January in the Year of Our Lord 2026

Today’s Weather: was supposed to be sunny with a temperatures of 11-28C (52-82F).

It was in fact slightly cooler than that at 10-28C (50-82F). Let me tell you that while the change is welcome, it almost feels cold after the last few days.

Today’s Question: (with thanks from kazzy_cee)

12. In 1948, the first Supermarket in the UK opened - the Co-op, the country’s first permanent self-service store, in East London’s Manor Park. Do you use one specific supermarket to buy groceries, and do they have a loyalty card scheme you belong to? How does it work?

I don’t use just one specific supermarket to buy groceries. Most weeks I find I need to go to at least 2 to get everything I need at the best price. The two I most often use both have loyalty cards, well the one has an app. The one with the card credits points for every dollar spent and you can either save them up to “buy gifts” or save $10 off your next shop once you have 2000 points. The one with the app gives 5% of what you spend to your favourite charity as well as at times giving “gifts” when you spend over a certain amount. Before Christmas it was matchbox cars which the grandies love to collect and play with. At the moment it’s men’s novelty socks which we’ll either gift to the menfolk for birthdays or donate to operation shoebox in October.

Icons!

I made these icons earlier this year to share elsewhere but thought I could share them here as well. They are to say God bless you all. The first 22 are still, the remainder are animated. I am going to try and get back into the habit of posting icons. Don't forget to credit. Comments and/or likes are appreciated
