The Liberal Party of Australia: Reconsider your plan for a 'FTTN' NBN in favour of a superior 'FTTH'

Please join this campaign:
A Petition Pertaining to the Future of Australian Broadband.

To Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull, the Liberal Party of Australia, the Senate and whom it may concern,

This petition is designed to highlight Australia’s desire for a superior ‘Fibre to the Home’ (FTTH) broadband solution, rather than the Coalition’s proposed ‘Fibre to the Node’ (FTTN) solution.

As currently proposed, the Coalition’s FTTN solution relies on the existing copper lines to supply individual premises access to the National Broadband Network (NBN) over the last mile or so. However, copper wiring solutions are rapidly approaching a century of implementation, with its inception dating back to the 1920’s. As such, its technological limits as well as associated weaknesses are rapidly developing.

Doctor Who Rumour of the day/week/month/year/decade

Sites like TVShows On DVD and Blastr are reporting on a rumour that Bleeding Cool put out there that the BBC have secured a large number of presumed wiped episodes of Doctor Who. Some of this is attributed to an eccentric engineer who worked for broadcasters across Africa with a taste for science fiction and a habit of taking things for “safe keeping”.

Bleeding Cool refer to it as:
And there are lots. Lots and lots. Completed serials that we’ve only had incomplete before, full series that nothing existed of. Not everything. But heaps and heaps. Possibly even The Full Hartnell. And Come November, or before, we'll get to see them.
Let's hope that the rumours are correct.

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

Election - Are you enrolled?

Okay, the election has been called. Polling day will be August 21 - and that leaves until just 8pm Monday for new enrolments and until Wednesday to update details like your address!

While you may already be enrolled to vote, you probably know several people who are not.

Do you know anyone who turned 18 in the last year? Have any of your friends moved house, got married and changed their name, become an Australian citizen or moved overseas?

If you know anyone who fits into the above category - and let's face it, you probably do - then our democracy is relying on you today.

Visit www.aec.gov.au now and make sure your details are up to date

Then, make sure all your friends, family and colleagues do the same -- before 8pm Monday night.

If the people you're thinking of right now are not enrolled by 8pm Monday night, then they won't be able to vote in this year's historic election. Not only could they be fined over $100 for not being on the electoral roll, they'll miss out on a once in a 3 year chance to have their say about the issues that matter to them.

An Anonymous Prayer

something my Mother got from Church

An Anonymous Prayer
Written in the 17th. Century

Lord, thy knowest better than I know myself
that I am growing older and will someday be old.
Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say
something on every subject and, on every occasion.
Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's affairs.

Make me thoughtful but not moody, helpful but not bossy,
With my vast store of wisdom it seems a pity not to use it all.
But, Thou knowest Lord that I want a few friends at the end.
Keep my mind from the recitals of endless details.
Give me wings to get to the point.

Seal my lips on my aches and pains.
They are increasing and love of rehearsing them
is becoming sweeter as the time goes by.
I do not ask for Grace enough to enjoy the tales
of other's pain but, help me endure them with patience.

I dare not ask for improved memory, but, for a
growing humility and a lessening cocksureness
when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others.
Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.

Keep me reasonably sweet
I do not want to be a Saint.
Some of them are so hard to live with.
But, a sour person is the works of the Devil.

Give me the ability to see good things in
unexpected places and talents in unexpected people.
And, give me, O Lord, the Grace to tell them so!
AMEN
