Fandom: William Shakespeare- Twelfth Night

Title: Making Apples

Rating/Warnings: PG-13/M. For wacky Adult Meta goodness. Implied slash, femme-slash and more double-entendre than anyone would ever want to think about. Viola/Olivia and blink-and-you'll-miss-it Orsino/Sebastian.

Genre: Crack. Meta. Character Study. Bible/Austen/Shakespeare fusion.

Notes for prpl_pen: Before you kill me, I *loved* this request and this would be why Naphy did not go on in English Lit. –Guiltily waves in the direction of The Wm.'s grave where he's undoubtedly busy turning over- So you are one of the very few people who could have convinced me to write sonnets and iambic again (not to mention Shakespearean Meta Meta). And why has it been so long since I last wrote femme-slash? Hope this works for you :) Er… in case it wasn't confusing enough to start with, this may not be in linear order, as in it may be working backwards to the beginning. –Shuffles guiltily-

Author's Notes: So the split is that I cut the comedy of errors- Antonio actually finds Sebastian being threatened and Sir Toby and Olivia come across Viola er… 'Cesario', where Olivia saves her from the beratement. I always thought it wouldn't have taken much more effort on Olivia's part to topple Viola's resistance and this is my take on the aftermath and the discovery… As for the text separation- Twelfth Night is a five act play, Shakespeare forgive me. All credits in footnotes.

Wrote 90% of this in August before becoming distracted by real-life and computer death. Found part of it on back-up disk. Decided rest of the world should suffer too. And, for probably the first time ever, I have to put a rating on the rant- at least PG-13 for the final paragraph. In fact, you should probably not read the final paragraph anyways. And if slash or fish offend you, this is not a good essay to read.

I like canon pairings. Well, most canon pairings. And since I’m not stupid or suicidal enough to start talking about which canon pairings I don’t like, I’ll try and get to the point. Although I like canon pairings and enjoy reading about them, the vast, vast majority of the stories I write involve alternate pairings. In my case, it’s an extension of my obsession with alternate realities- when I write, the road not traveled fascinates me. And I particularly love thinking about why two people may or may not be involved and what it would take to change that. Because I am so going to become that old lady with forty cats, the room full of Harlequins and the telephoto lens.

For similar reasons, I enjoy reading alternate pairings. That is when they don’t make me want to scoop out my eyes with a fork made of hand-carved plot bunny femur. In the interests of attempting to keep my eyeballs in my head, I have composed the following list of things that I try to force myself to keep track of when writing alternate pairings. Not that I’m necessarily the expert or always successful in my attempts, but damn it all, alternate pairings do have more things to take into account than canon pairings and if this list helps anybody else half as much as it helps me, I’ll consider it worth my eyeballs.

Fandoms: Inuyasha and Pride and Prejudice

Title: Dogs of War

Rating: PG-13/R. Implications of stat rape and childhood prostitution.

Genre: Drama/Horror. Dark fic.

Word Count: ~630

Summary: In retaliation for his role in Ramsgate, Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam purchase George Wickham a place in not the militia, but the active regiments. A man with Wickham's tastes let loose in the confusion and horror of the continental battles? Ah well, justice comes in many forms…

Notes for dawnsama: Both an AR and a crossover. I rock like a rocking thing :) Er… this probably was not at all what you expected, was it Dawn? To be honest, my brain now needs lots and lots of bleach.

Definitions: The military order Havoc! was a signal given to the English military forces in the Middle Ages to direct the soldiery (in Shakespeare's parlance 'the dogs of war') to pillage and chaos. It was not a gentle command- this was giving the soldiery complete leeway to commit any kind of excess they chose.

Author's Notes: Yes, I did make someone currently dead live again. Although this should not be a radical concept in Inuyasha ;) I'm going to handwave it away the normal way those sorts of things happen according to Takahashi (which means yes- I do have an insanely long backstory for this and no- I am never going to write it out). Plus it means I get to allude to one of my favourite Inuyasha crack!pairings. All in all, this story requires much more knowledge of Inuyasha than Pride and Prejudice. WARNING- this is not a nice story.

Fandoms: Harry Potter and Veronica Mars

Title: Learning Its Nature

Rating: PG.

Genre: Drama/Horror.

Word Count: ~700

Summary: Lilies of the field toil not, nor do they spin. But do they learn? Sybill Trelawney. Lilly Kane. Sybill might actually be a True Seer. Too bad it's not going to make any difference.

Notes for paynesgrey: I really didn't want to do the obvious sorts of VM/HP crosses, so I've been tossing this idea around in my head for awhile. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't write it until suddenly I realized that, as many problems as I have with Duncan Kane, he was absolutely necessary for this story. And this strange oneshot was born…

Author's Notes: Lilies are symbols of both innocence (purity) and death. Duncan means dark-skinned warrior. As far as I can tell, Lilly Kane is canonically four years younger than the Harry Potter cast- please correct me if I'm wrong! Urp... almost forgot- very vague HBP spoilers.

Fandom: Rurouni Kenshin

Title: The Unbearable Lightness of Fleeing

Rating: PG

Genre: Drama. Character Study. Misao.

Word Count: ~1300

Summary: Kenshin's good at every kind of running. Misao's good at being Misao. Poor Kenshin.

Notes for numisma: I do love Misao. By all rights, this should be a much longer story, but consider it a series of vignettes to sketch what became a very long and fully realized plot in my head. Damn you.

Author's Notes: Kaoru was killed during the encounter with Enishi. With Kaoru truly dead, how would Kenshin ever recover? Who would be stubborn enough to deal with that much brooding? And when will Naphy stop making terrible puns in her titles?

Notes for animefreak42: It's really funny, but as soon as you gave me the prompt, my first thought was how it would affect Eowyn rather than Aragorn. I hope that you enjoy my very abbreviated take on that!

Author's Notes: So the side branch here is that Arwen died at some point during the War, for reasons unknown. My immediate thought on this was that they probably wouldn’t inform Aragorn until it was over, because the last thing they would need would be already ambivalent emo-'King of Men' becoming razor blade-friendly emo-'King of Men' in the middle of the war for Middle Earth. But what would he do once he found out? And what would his long-term thoughts on it be? Strangely, I immediately thought of Eowyn. And the flashfic was born…
