Looking for spiritually-minded friends!

Hi Everyone, I just joined this group and wanted to introduce myself. I am a 30-year-old Denverite and I'm looking for some good people to support each other in a spiritual journey. I identify mostly with Buddhism, and practice a few different kinds of Buddhist meditation, but I draw from other traditions as well. I'm excited to have found this group, and I would also love to communicate with people outside of this posting! Aside from spirituality I have lots of other interests - I am very passionate about life and get excited about lots of things. Come introduce yourself to me! Thanks, everyone :)

New Community-- Prayer For India!

Greetings one and all,

This community is being established for those who desire to pray for India, have a heart for India, who are Indian (living anywhere), are missionaries in India, or just want to check out what God is doing in that large region. The purpose of this community will be cultural exchange between regions of India (anything from Divali to Desi food recipes to religious/cultural study to Bollywood), understanding, keeping up with news and needs of India, and correspondences between all affiliated with India in some way.

I look forwards to seeing what God will accomplish as we all gather together with one purpose.

Hi everybody. I joined not too terribly long ago and thought that it would be nice of me to post an introduction.
My name is Alden and i'm 17 years old. I'm a painter/writer/vocalist...yea, all that good stuff is on my user info page.
I'm really very interested in East Asian Studies, and I guess that's what first pulled me into religion. My parents are both religious and believe that religion is a strong part of a persons life. I had delved into so many things, I was just so exhasuted and trial and error. Then, my freshmen philosophy teacher gave me a book about Mahayana Buddhism. I loved everything that it had to offer, and fell in love with it. I've been practicing ever since.
As many do I'm sure, I have a question. Let's say you live in a town that isn't exactly "diverse" in the religious oppritunities it offers. Where do you go for your temple meditation?
Nice to meet everyone.

i was listening to this...

i don't know if it's pertinent, but i thought i'd post this "song." it's really interesting, sort of like an imitation (serious or in jest, that i can't tell) of buddhism and topics for meditation. if you wanted, perhaps you could meditate over some of these. others are just amusing. :)

"the essence... or... jist.

it is not in the thinking of things to do, it is in the counting of things that you have already done.
and it is not in the things that you staple together, it is in your desire to staple.
and it is not in the speaking on the telephone, it is in how loud you are speaking.
and it is not in the cable tv, it is in the cables themselves through which they send the crap into our homes.
and it is not in the smiling, it is in the teeth beneath the smile, and also the tongue.
and it is not in the baying for blood, it is in the actual baying, the quality of the baying.
and it is not in the plastic bottle, it is in the color of the lid of the plastic bottle.
and it is not in her actions or words, it is in how much her actions or words annoy you.
and it is not in your threshing machine, it is in how much your workers are afraid of the threshing machine.
and it is not in the chocolate factory, it is in the very fact that there is a chocolate factory.
and it is not in the chair, it is in the list that does exist somewhere of all the people who have sat in the chair.
and it is not in pineapple chunks, it is in pineapple rings.
and it is not in rocket fuel, it is in the drinking of rocket fuel.
and it is not in jokes, it is in the need for jokes.
and it is not in time exactly, it is in the sand in the hourglass.
and it is not in books, it is in the sober atmosphere of the library.
and it is not in banging on the big bass drum, it is in the inaudible swishing of the conductor's baton.
and it is not in the devil you know, it is in the devil you don't know.
and it is not in the pie filling, it is in the pastry.
and it is not in the rubbish, it is in where you put the rubbish."

intros, intros...

i'm sorry, i realized that i joined here and never posted a proper introduction.
i'm 18 years old, an aspie musician/future linguist living in northeastern usa, off to college next year. i studied buddhism off and on since 7th grade when we did a bit of world religions, but it became a serious interest as i entered high school. it was general mahayana that caught my eye, but i have focused and broadened since. (i would say i was a zen practitioner, but i don't always do well enough with meditation...) about a year and a half ago, i would have said i was dead set on becoming some kind of anchorite, but for several reasons, i have decided that it may not be for me. we'll see where the path takes me...
so, for now, i hope i can be an asset to the community... i don't have as much life experience as many of you, but i'll try to be a source of information when i can. certainly, i also hope to glean as much as i can from your wisdom. :)

What's the best website you know of? (I don't necessarily mean favorite ... for sentimental reasons I'd prolly say http://indymedia.org but it's not the best I know.

I will post cummulative results.

p.s. I'm not sure how or why or when, but anaishikawa fell off my reading list, which is why I've been absent. Apologies and regards
