gravediggers

wow, that was a lot of people

Lived through the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.

It started at 3rd Street and generously spilled over the official boundary of 7th street. It's hard to tell how far people were down the mall (from camera shots on the jumbo screens, it looked like the crowd reached the Washington Monument, but I think that might just have been the perspective.). I've only seen one overhead pic and it looked like people were probably around the Smithsonian Castle? It'll be interesting to see better aerial pics. The only crowd estimate I've seen so far is 200,000 from the Toronto Sun, and that sounds reasonable from what I saw.

The best part was the crowd, IMO. The weather was gorgeous and people were cheery and carrying funny signs. I couldn't see any of the screens clearly where we were -- near the National Gallery -- but could hear pretty well. I have complex thoughts about the actual substance of the rally but I won't bore you with them. Mostly it was just fun. Now I'm completely exhausted.

We had ridiculous luck getting out, due to leaving a bit early. I hear it was a major clusterfuck on Metro.

one more thing

I don't know how original this thought is, but as the bro and I were watching some S3 of Battlestar Galactica last night in preparation for S4, I realized that Saul Tigh? Has a more than passing resemblance to John McCain.
